Kate and William's front row seat to £27 million super production
27 JULY 2012

Preparations for the Olympic opening ceremony read like a script for a Hollywood blockbuster – a top director playing with a £27 million pound budget for a production that will dazzle a global audience of over a billion people.

And the VIPs gifted the best seats in the house for Friday evening's extravaganza only add to the star quality.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will watch Danny Boyle's highly-anticipated 'Isles of Wonder' show unfold alongide A-listers like Angelina Jolie.

kate-william-concert--z.jpg

His concept was inspired by Shakespeare's The Tempest, and although insiders are sworn to secrecy, stunned spectators drafted in for the rehearsals emerged with one unanimous review: "Amazing".

They also praised the show's "magnificently bonkers" humour.

Artistic director Danny – best known for the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire – has promised a truly British show that will be about a land recovering from its industrial legacy.

"We'll be celebrating the whole of the country... there are so many Isles of Wonder," he said.

danny-boyle--z.jpg

The Daily Telegraph reports that the other great hallmark of British life – Saturday night on the town – will be portrayed with a soundtrack of home-grown talent that spans hits from the Sixties to the current day.

Amidst such high secrecy, what is common knowledge is that the Olympic Stadium in Stratford has been transformed into an idyllic countryside setting – perhaps to represent the central 'Isle of Wonder' theme.

The world is now on the edge of its seat to see what lies in store for those lush landscapes.

At precisely, 8.12pm – the digital version 20:12 matches the year in which the Games is taking place – the warm up act will get underway.

Then, at 9.00 pm Danny's 20,000-cast of performers, NHS nurses and local school children will be summoned to thrill the Kate, William and the world.

Royal family 'delighted' as Clarence House announces that Kate is pregnant

03 DECEMBER 2012

A year after tying the knot, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are on the threshold of fulfilling the promise of their magnificent wedding. The happy couple have shared the news that they are expecting their first baby, who will become third-in-line to the throne.

William and Kate confirmed that the Duchess is in the very early stages of pregnancy, and they will welcome the new addition to the Windsor royal line sometime in 2013.

HELLO1255-BAJA001--z.jpg

Now, the pressure is on for the government to push through new royal succession laws to ensure that William and Kate's baby becomes heir apparent to the throne. The existing law favours the first-born sons of monarchs. The reform will mean that if the Duke and Duchess' first child is a little girl, she will take precedence over any younger brothers in the order of succession.

Confirmation of the royal couple's happy news comes after intense whispers that the Windsors were protecting something special, and in this week's issue, HELLO! Magazine correctly predicted what the world has been waiting for.

The Duke himself sparked speculation during a recent visit to Cambridge when he accepted a baby romper suit from a well-wisher. Mum Samantha Hill handed the royal a pale-blue baby suit which bore a little helicopter on the front and the message "Daddy's little co-pilot". Accepting the gift, William beamed and said: "I'll keep that."

With the future King's impending paternity now confirmed, messages of congratulations have already began to pour in for him and his wife on Twitter, with Prime Minister David Cameron being one of the first to share his best wishes. "I'm delighted by the news that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting a baby. They will make wonderful parents." he tweeted.

Meanwhile, Labour leader Ed Miliband wrote: "Fantastic news for Kate, William and the country. A royal baby is something the whole nation will celebrate." Given that the palace hasn't yet confirmed how many weeks along the Duchess is – saying only that Kate was under the 12-week stage – royals watchers will be left guessing as to when exactly the nation will be able to "celebrate".

A summer baby is the most likely eventuality, and in a happy coincidence the big day could even coincide with Prince William's own birthday, which falls on June 21.

Prince William visits pregnant Kate Middleton in hospital after sickness
Prince William was spotted visiting the Duchess of Cambridge as she recovers from acute morning sickness at King Edward VII Hospital in Central London.
wenn20015454.jpgSt James's Palace and Clarence House confirmed yesterday (December 3) that the young royal couple were expecting their first child together, releasing the statement: "The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news.
"The Duchess was admitted this afternoon to King Edward VII Hospital in Central London with Hyperemesis Gravidarum [acute morning sickness].

Catherine is believed to be less than 12 weeks pregnant and that her admission to hospital led to the announcement.
She's currently suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum, with retired midwife Val Clarke explaining the rare condition to Sky News: "It often happens in very slim young ladies who - I don't know the reason why - become pregnant and the demands of the pregnancy are overwhelming to the point that vomiting becomes much more severe much earlier.
"I admire Kate. She was playing hockey, she may have been feeling awful, but she put on a very good show for everybody. But now I think she needs to tend to her own wellbeing and that of the baby."
The 30-year-old Duchess was playing hockey last week after she returned to her old school in Pangbourne.

Delighted dad-to-be William takes Kate home from hospital

06 DECEMBER 2012

new-1255--z.jpg

The Duchess of Cambridge is on the mend. Smiling and looking well, Kate left hospital on Thursday, four days after she was admitted suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum.

Royal fans waiting for the first glimpse of the royal since her pregnancy announcement were pleased when she walked out of the front doors of the King Edward VII hospital wearing a checked blue coat and scarf and carrying a yellow bouquet of blooms. She was accompanied by Prince William who looked delighted to be finally taking his wife home. The happy father-to-be had arrived on Thursday morning at 10.15am, on his fourth day in a row of visiting the Duchess.

kate-middleton--a.jpg

The husband-and-wife team paused for a moment to let photographers get a snap before walking to their car. William declined to respond to questions from the press but his wife told one reporter she is "doing much better". Kate will now spend some time recuperating at the couple's London home at Kensington Palace.

St James' Palace released a statement on behalf of William and Kate, which read: ", Their royal highnesses would like to thank the staff at the hospital for the care and treatment the Duchess has received."

Kate spent three nights under observation for severe morning sickness, and was suffering from dehydration when she was admitted. To discharge her on Thursday, doctors must be satisfied she has sufficiently recovered, and it's likely the 30-year-old will have been given anti-sickness medication to keep her nausea under control.

During the Duchess' stay there was a security breach. In the early hours of Wednesday morning, two presenters phoned the hospital pretending to be the Queen and Prince Charles and managed to obtain intimate medical information about the expectant royal.

Believing them to be genuine, the nurse who answered the call at King Edward VII Hospital told them Kate had had "a comfortable night" and revealed private medical information.

kate-middleton-1-a.jpg

A hospital spokesman said: "This call was transferred through to a ward and a short conversation was held with one of the nursing staff. King Edward VII's Hospital deeply regrets this incident."

John Lofthouse, the hospital's chief executive, said: "This was a foolish prank call that we all deplore."

In a statement, 2Day FM – the radio station behind the hoax - said they "sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by the inquiry... The radio segment was done with the best intentions, we're glad to hear Kate is doing well and we wish her all the best."

The presenters behind the prank, Mel Grieg and Michael Christian (above), said: "We were very surprised that our call was put through, we thought we'd be hung up on as soon as they heard our terrible accents. We're very sorry if we've caused any issues and we're glad to hear that Kate is doing well."

The Life of Kate and William’s Child, in 10 Easy Steps
By Sonia van Gilder Cooke

Dec. 05, 2012

Duchess+Cambridge+Leaves+King+Edwards+VI

The announcement Monday that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting a child sent a thrill of excitement through Britain — and particularly through the British press. But what can the child itself expect? Based on the experiences of his or her relatives, NewsFeed has provided the future monarch with a step-by-step guide to the major stages of a royal life.

The Birth

Princess Diana bucked the Royal Family trend by being the first to give birth to a future monarch in a hospital. (The current Queen, Elizabeth II, was born in a Mayfair townhouse; Prince Charles entered the world, fittingly, in Buckingham Palace.) Diana chose St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington for the births of both William and Harry. Kate may do the same. Prince William will probably be at her side, unlike his grandfather the Duke of Ediburgh, who was enjoying a game of squash when Queen Elizabeth gave birth to Charles.

The Name

Britain’s bookmakers seem to be putting their money on Elizabeth if it’s a girl, but Victoria could also be in the mix: Queen Victoria expressly asked that all her female descendant include the name Victoria somewhere (though her orders haven’t always been carried out). If it’s a boy, expect something conventional from this very conventional couple. There will be no “Dashiell” or “Hashtag” here; the most likely choices, according to Ladbrokes, are John, Charles, James and Philip.

The Baptism

William’s grandmother is, after all, the head of the Anglican Church, so there’s little doubt his baby will be baptized ASAP. Prince Harry was blessed in the St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle by the Archbishop of Canterbury — the first royal christening there since 1889. But as a future monarch, William got the full treatment in the Music Room of Buckingham Palace, the traditional location for royal baptisms. At the time, William wore a lace and silk christening robe made in 1841 for Queen Victoria’s son, the future Edward VII. As the Archbishop of Canterbury blessed him using a silver gilt lily font (which has been used to pour water over all baby British monarchs since 1841), the choristers of the Chapels Royal offered up hyms. Expect much of the same for Kate and Wills’ baby.

The House

At the moment, William and Kate live in a fairly modest home in Anglesey, Wales. With Kate now pregnant, however, William could soon leave his job as an RAF search and rescue pilot. The couple will reportedly move to an apartment in Kensington Palace in London next fall.

The Nanny

William and Kate seem like they’ll be hands-on parents, but they’ll likely hire help as well. William and Harry had good relationships with their nannies: Olga Powell, whose funeral William attended this year, cared for the princes for 15 years and helped them through their mother’s death. Tiggy Legge-Bourke looked after them when they were in their father’s care after their parents’ separation in 1993. She was popular with the princes for her laissez-faire spirit, although their mother, Diana, objected to her smoking in front of the boys. In any case, the experience of William and Kate’s child will likely be vastly different from that of Queen Elizabeth II, whose strict carers only allowed her to play with one toy at a time in her nursery.

The Activities

Expect to see Kate and William’s baby out and about with them on official trips. This was unheard of in previous eras, but Diana broke the ice by carting 9-month-old William with her on a trip to Australia and New Zealand. Almost everyone in the royal family is mad about horses, so there’s no doubt Kate and Wills’ child will learn to ride when he or she is a bit older — William and Harry began learning at age 4. The child will probably also pick up the other stock aristocratic pursuit: hunting game. If they’re of a more artistic disposition, they may take up painting like their grandfather Charles or photography like their mother Kate.

The School

While most of Britain’s future rulers throughout history were educated by private tutors, William and Harry began attending a London Montessori nursery at age 3. The two were the first members of the royal family to leave Buckingham Palace for preschool, and they continued on from there, attending the pre-preparatory Wetherby School in London before heading to the prep school Ludgrove in Berkshire. For high school, they might have gone to the Scottish boarding academy Gourdonstoun, attended by their father, grandfather, two uncles and two cousins. Instead, they attended Eton, the famed boys boarding school in Windsor, where Princess Diana’s brother and father went. If the baby is a boy, he’ll be likely to follow a similar path. If it’s a girl, there is always the option of the prestigious Malborough College for high school, attended by her mother and Princess Eugenie.

Public Duties

There will be perks – the child will likely receive his or her own coat of arms as an 18th birthday present, just as Princes William and Harry did. But the royal duties may start early. William’s first official engagement came in 1991 at the age of 9, when he greeted crowds outside a cathedral in Wales; Harry made an appearance at age 10, saluting officers in a military parade to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Victory over Japan day.

University

The house of Windsor is not exactly renowned as a stable of raging intellectuals. While Prince Charles received a bachelors degree from Trinity College, Cambridge, the days of automatic acceptance to Oxford and Cambridge for the scions of aristocratic families are long over — meaning any modern royal children will to some extent have to earn their way in. Other options include St. Andrews, the alma mater of both William and Kate, where the royal offspring could follow in the footsteps of many other English aristos by studying the History of Art. Alternatively, he or she could imitate uncle Harry and go straight to the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst.

The Career

Choices of suitable employment for a monarch in waiting are slim, although William did manage to get some real-world experience with an internship at HSBC bank. Most royal men serve in the military, a pathway which always remains an option. For a young modern female royal, however, the trail is there to be blazed. So far, the record is not promising. Sarah, Duchess of York (she of Weight Watchers spokesmanship) and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex (wife of Prince Edward) have both been caught up in embarrassing career kerfuffles. Meanwhile, Prince William’s cousin Beatrice has been regularly pilloried in the press for her apparent reluctance to find a job (this summer, she landed a position with a financial firm). Ultimately, of course, there is only one career destination for this child: the throne. Unless, of course, he or she abdicates to marry a American divorcé. But how many times can that happen?
