I am actually enjoying this drama very much! I am baffled to why the ratings are so low in S. Korea. Could someone explain why there are 2 versions of this show? It is making a lot of people including myself, confused. The scene between HS and WS where she does his make-up and teaches him how to do it himself was lovely and I don't understand why it was cut from the version at DF. Why is SBS showing 2 versions of the same drama? The fact that they are cutting scenes does not contribute to good editing!

Hi @hell59! There are 2 versions of the show because the original version of the show was already sold to Dramafever and Youku, but based on the netizens complaints of the original broadcasts (Not enough Lee Jun Ki? Too much Baekhyun and the other princes? Background music) SBS reedited the show - which is why the Korean broadcast is often LJK-centric with BGM without a lot of the rap-hip hop songs...

  2. I couldn't agree more @meahri_1! :) Sometimes it just feels like someone is attacking your little sister :P and you can't see the person face to face to defend her- That we're so attached to the drama speaks volumes of how much we love and appreciate the cast and director and all the obvious hard work they've all put in in interpreting their characters :) I'm excited for yet another Moonday tomorrow! This drama is seriously one of the few things that makes Mondays bearable!

@briseis Thanks so much, chingu, for including this specific scene in your commentary. I've actually been waiting for you to get to it because I knew you would be able too put into words everything I felt when I first watched this scene play out. I would add to your summary one thing...and it could have just been me that thought this. But when Wangso indicated he would do it...he would remove his mask, I can't help feeling like Haesoo's eyes were trying to tell him 'No. Please don't do it. It will only hurt you.' I truly felt like she was thinking this because he had already revealed to her at the bathhouse, just how much he didn't want anyone to see.... And knowing this, it was exactly as you said. She was already suffering with him because she knew what the end result would be. It's ironic that although she doesn't have any romantic thoughts about him yet, that their hearts are already in sync.

You know...there was commentary I came across in a recap article not too long after this episode aired where a couple of people were commenting, in a negative manner, at the 'wide-eyed' look in IU's eyes and that they weren't sure what the look was trying to convey. I was really put off by the insulting nature of the comments and wanted to respond, but unfortunately REAL life didn't give me the time to do so. PLUS, one should never start typing away in anger. As we've seen with Wangso's mother, Queen Yoo, words can definitely cut quite deeply. For me, the passage of time helped. For Wangso, I hope in the opening scene of episode 8, he gives Haesoo the opportunity to help ease the pain and rejection he's feeling. That, and I wish CP would kick 3rd prince's richard simmons for his insensitivity and disrespect.

By the way, I love the idea of Chris Pine as a drama god ordering rain! Hahahaha!!

I saw that too and it took a lot of will power to not say anything back to those people... How else should she have looked? Should she have rolled her eyes saying 'Whatevs, I don' t think the scar is as big as all that?'? Should her eyes have filled up with tears? Should she have been looking from side to side? Looking down, as if she's ashamed? She can't win with these people :(

I really hope that Soo starts to recognise her feelings for So soon, and puts away her feelings for Wook. As much as I enjoy all the swoon worthy scenes of Soo/So, it's not as swoon worthy when she's not feeling it.

Hello @lolalarue! :) I think she will and soon! I have been rewatching the C-BBJX while waiting for Moondays, and Soo's character spends a third of the drama mooning (forgive the pun!) over 8th prince. And while's there's palpable tension with the 4th prince, Soo's character sees it as a nuisance (she hit the prince for kissing her, returned or gave away his gifts). But when she fell for him, there was no coming back for her! :D 8th prince became forgotten 1st love!

Being the nosy and obsessed person that I am I re-watched the 6 minute trailer to see if I could pick up any new things with the story we have been told so far. OMG this is what I found. Soo's bracelet which Wook gave her

And Wook doesn't look very friendly or kind in this picture. He has a rather dark demeanour and he's also dressed in black. I don't think we've seen him in black thus far. And like I've mentioned in a post before their clothing is rather reflective of their character and this is not who we know Wook to be. What could have possibly happened. I'm so worried about him :frown:

On a brighter note it is Moonday so excited for tonights episode!!

Poor Wook - Breaking up is hard to do! :(

Errrrrr, I hope the writer will not follow the suicide things because suicide is a  biggest issue in South Korea and also Japan.

Better treating them living in a nightmare then rather seeing them get killed.

His mother even treated and told Jung like Wang Yo. Jung as per se, don't like Wang So but not deeply hate him like Wang Yo does. The queen already planned the whole thing for Wang Yo so he could be in line of the throne. Wang So is her own flesh and I think she didn't remember when she delivered wang so, how painful it was that time. She only thinks that Wang So is her nightmare.

The evil queen should know what will she get once her abandoned son becomes a king, she would like to see hell then

He did tell her that 'she will only be able to look at him from afar', so she'll never get to have her day in the sun as dowager queen - :D   B)

I'm cautiously optimistic it won't go that way with the killing, because I've only read so far of one of the princes who was executed for treason against his brother-king...

Gosh, new still from our Wang Yo. Aigoo,i hate his character with those eye liner. Wanna hit his face instead.

    It's Moonday guys aouuuuuuuuuu *howling*

Me too! I don't understand why he hates his younger brother - Mummy dearest might justify her actions by saying that Wang So reminds her of her 'failures' (why project that to your child, I don't know), but does anyone know why there's so much animosity to his brother?

So he's gonna kill his brother for the throne ???

I hope not; but I suspect that if the writer takes some creative license and goes the way of the C-BBJX, he might have to kill some of his brothers to get to the throne... (Granted, 4th prince in the C-BBJX when he became the Yongzheng emperor didn't outright kill his brothers, but he made life a living nightmare for them (8th prince forced to divorce wife, wife commits suicide, placed under house arrest, 9th and 14th prince also placed under house arrest ; 8th and 9th prince eventually commit suicide as well) Here's hoping things don't go that way! :)

I was browsing through tumblr and found this gif:

It's from one of the trailers. In the preview for next week's episodes, Wang So is wearing white for the rain ritual. Will we see this SoSoo moment next week? He's also not wearing a mask (I think... I zoomed in and don't see it) :D

Not really. The international version has more fan-service, with the humor and the music.

Could this be the Goryeo equivalent of a happy dance for Wang So?  It seems to be raining, and I heard something in the episode 8 preview about 'he'll become a prince if it rains?'. Please k-drama gods, let this poor man catch a break, eh?

They are following the chinesse version in that. In fact, Wang So had a lot of screen time compared to the lead in the Chinesse version. I knew he was the lead only for the spoilers of the opening song of each episode, but he was like an extra.

I completely agree with you @Gabi Bros! In the Chinese version, I feel that they did that so we could see that it wasn't easy for Ruoxi to break away from a man who completely adored her (8th Prince), and you can understand how intense the new relationship with 4th Prince was that she could heal from that break. :)

So late on sharing thoughts but there were so many pages I've only now have the time to go back and read the great and interesting comments. Also, @bebebisous33, your analysis of the meaning behind the eclipse and its connection to WS and HS is quite beautiful, such a pleasure to read.

Agreed. Right now the show is calling it love so I will accept it for what it is. I think WWs early advantage over WS is how closely on the surface he resembles a modern man, particularly as compared to WS. No, WS didn't help matters by fully acting out his defensive persona (violent, rude, standoffish) during his earlier encounters with HS; however, by the time we get to the prayer stones scene, HS has accepted the more violent nature of her new world even as she chooses to do what she feels is right no matter how much it bucks what's acceptable in that world. Still, to a modern person like HS, someone like WW who carries more modern elements would seem very comfortable and safe. I don't think we can discount that as part of his understandable attraction.

@KdramaSwimmer  My understanding is they wear white when in mourning. In the flashback with little WS, the mother is wearing all white because she just lost a child which makes the king's style of dress (the full color regalia) all the more striking and heartless. I'm willing to bet the different scenes in the long preview with the royals and their family in white are connected to funerals. Also, the type of rituals performed are likely connected to the status of the person who died. The funerary rituals performed by the family for a Lady Hae, for example, would be vastly different/understated compared to the rituals performed for the death of a King or a Crown Prince which I think is what's happening when we see WS, specifically, leading the ritual. I think at some point Ji Mong lets people (or maybe just WS) know the heavens have decreed WS be the next King. Now, if he's smart - and I'm assuming he must be because I think he's from the future, too, and has survived decades in the past - JM won't let that cat out of the bag before the death of the Crown Prince since that would put WS's life in extreme danger from the King and the Crown Prince himself.

WS's mother doesn't like Lady Hae because Lady Hae used her clan's power, money and connections to put WW and WW's mother back in the capital city and in the palace again. Unless I'm sorely mistaken, WS's mother is the reason WW's family was exiled in the first place; WW's speaks semi-bitterly about a situation in the past that caused her to lose the King's trust and I suspect the evil mother had something to do with it. So much of the politics involved seem to rely upon clan power, status or basically, "What can your clan do for me?" Lady Hae's clan apparently could do a lot and had a lot. It's what makes Yeon Hwa's words about the Lady kind of reprehensible, not because they lacked historical truth (if her brother was to move up he needed a new, healthier wife) but because they lacked any appreciation for what Lady Hae did for her and her family. I don't care how powerful Lady Hae's clan is, she had to have spent significant political capital to wash the stink of whatever misdeed caused the exile of WW's fam and she would likely have to continue to spend that capital due to the malicious nature of the evil mother. I think this might have also contributed to Lady Hae withdrawing from whatever naturally mischievous nature she might have had prior to her marriage because living quietly not only matched her husband's manner but also wouldn't attract the evil queen mother's eye.

As for JM, HS and time travel, my personal headcanon is his homeless self jumped into the water to save a drowning HS. We get a shot of him noticing her shoes on the platform as well as the coming eclipse. It would be just like a kdrama for him to attempt to save her because she was kind enough to share a drink and even a word with him when she could have ignored him. I think the heavens/god/fate needed both of them to fulfill their parts in shaping the start of Goryeo, so he got sent where he was needed back to the pre-formation and she was sent where she was needed. JM, with his obvious knowledge of history, likely understands why he's here but he probably doesn't understand why HS is there as well. He's probably trying to figure that out on the sly, the role she's meant to play, especially considering when she appeared - on the day of WS's arrival, on the eve of several assassination attempts and when, it seems to me, JM is subtly arranging things to put WS in place as history needs him. Of course, this all pre-supposes he is also a time traveler; again, personal headcanon until the show tells us otherwise.

Hello! I hope you don't mind if I chip in! When talking about the queen wearing white because her son died and the king not wearing white, I did notice (and I could be wrong) that in all the sageuks that I have seen so far, anytime a prince or queen dies, the king does not wear mourning clothes... I have only ever seen the king wear white/mourning clothes when his father/mother/grandmother (grand dowager queen) passes on - Maybe the king only wears white when someone senior in rank to him dies?

@kaoriharang Yes, Wangso, aka  Gwangjong, was indeed the fourth king of Goryeo. One of our chingu on the thread may correct me, but there doesn't seem to be documentation that supports any manipulation by him to secure the throne. Like 4th in the c-version, however, he was known for squashing his political rivals and creating an atmosphere of fear.

It's my recollection in the C-version, that none of the princes actively sought to harm each other.

Hello! :) I think in the C-version, the princes mostly tried to outsmart each other - every move they made was calculated to bring them maximum advantage  - more of a war of the brains than anything, I'd say... Here it's more physical and consequences are more than house arrest - it's bloody and life or death...:tears:

  13. Hi everyone!

Wow! I am just so happy to see all the love for the drama here :) - All the negative feedback and comparisons to other currently running dramas from other sites just makes me want to cry, :cold_sweat: because we can all see how hard the entire cast has worked and we have all seen worse acting in other dramas that have essentially zero story lines, fluff the story with skinship and have been immensely popular for some unknown reason. Its so depressing, and I love coming here to get lifted again! :)

Hello everyone....  I'm kind of new here and this is my first post because I'm really curious about something.  In charecter description for Kang Han-Na it is said that she is the sister of 8th prince and wife of 4th prince. Aren't she and 4th prince supposed to be siblings? How can she be his wife? Can anyone clarify this please? Thanks and sorry for my bad english.

Hi ttashaa! I am also new to this forum - I think she and the 4th prince are half-siblings - same father, different mother... The idea back then was to maintain royal blood, which we know now was a big mistake :), but it may have worked out for them somehow- I think the Goryeo dynasty lasted 300, 400 years before the Joseon dynasty?
