    'Love in the Moonlight' wins best drama at Seoul Int'l Drama Awards

    KBS 2 TV's "Love in the Moonlight" received two awards from this year's Seoul International Drama Awards while the annual event was overshadowed by the on-going labor strike at the network. 

    The popular drama, which aired Aug. 22-Oct. 18, 2016, and featured Park Bo-gum and Kim Yoo-jung, won best drama and best actor in the Korean Wave or, or hallyu, category.

    The awards ceremony took place at KBS Hall in Seoul's Yeouido on Thursday at 7 p.m. The show was planned to air live, but was forced to cancel as a staff shortage disrupted the network's operation. It will air midnight Friday.

    [V Report] Park Bo-young surprised at Park Bo-gum

    Park Bo-young won the best actress award in the mini-series category at the 2017 Seoul International Drama Awards for her role in “Strong Woman Do Bong-soon.”

    At the ceremony that took place on Thursday, Park gave her acceptance speech, but forgot to mention her fans. Saying she wanted to make up for it, Park went live on V app to have a late-night chat with her fans. 

    “I had dinner after the awards ceremony with the agency people and had a bit of alcohol,” Park said. “My manager urged me to go on air tomorrow after I sober up, but I really thought I had to thank you tonight.” 

    “I went up to the stage thinking I would mention you all, but in the heat of the moment I forgot, and I felt really sorry afterward.”

    “Bo-gum-ssi said his thanks to his fans in so many foreign languages and that totally caught me off guard,” Park said, mentioning the “Moonlight Drawn by the Clouds” actor, Park Bo-gum, who had also been present at the ceremony.

    “I didn’t even know I had international fans myself,” she said, expressing regret at not having prepared foreign language messages herself.

    Winners Of The 2017 Seoul Drama Awards

    On September 7, the 12th annual Seoul Drama Awards celebrated the dramas that had aired all around the world.

    Unlike other domestic awards ceremonies, the Seoul Drama Awards is a team effort between KBS, MBC, SBS, and EBS, as well as the Korean Broadcasting Association, to spread knowledge of foreign dramas in Korea and Korean dramas worldwide.

    This year, the awards ceremony, hosted by Shin Dong Yup and Kim Jung Eun, considered 266 dramas from 55 countries.

    Some notable Korean winners were Ailee, who took home the Hallyu Drama Theme Song Award for her “Goblin” OST “I Will Go to You Like the First Snow.” “Moonlight Drawn By Clouds” won the Top Excellence Award for Hallyu Drama, while “W” and “Doctors” took home the Excellence Awards in the same category.

    Park Bo Gum and Park Bo Young won the Best Actor and Actress Award for Hallyu Drama respectively.

    The Grand Prize went to the American drama “This Is Us,” which has also achieved critical success in the United States, being nominated for the Golden Globe Awards and the Critics’ Choice Awards.

    kim jungeun: you prepared well. sdy: to my knowledge, there are a few people in some of the rare african tribes that like you. there’s something that I’m personally really curious about. because Park Bogum-ssi has this kind image where he is so kind, well mannered, greets staff members well, and always treats his sunbae well and looks after his hoobaes. You do swear/curse when you are alone, right? I’m really curious! When you’re angry!

    pbg: ah, yes. I don’t use coarse language.

    sdy: I see. Now I’m thinking that it’s very well possible that you don’t… Kim Jungeun-ssi, if you have something you’re curious about, ask him.

    kju: me? what is your phone number..? I’m sorry, I’m sorry. your home phone number..?

    sdy: you relayed your thanks to your family and fans today, but who, out of your fellow actors, do you think would be the happiest for you today? whether it’s your senior or junior.

    pbg: maybe it’s because it was my first time taking on a major role, but I’m thankful to the directors, scriptwriters, the seniors and juniors who I worked together with. I was able to safely wrap up the character of Lee Young because they (staff/actors) acted as the steady backbone for the drama, so everyone is coming to mind right now.

    sdy: what about Song Joongki who cried with you, seeing his dongsaeng win such a big award, at the drama awards last year? how happy would he be (right now for him). brag a little to Song Joongki, and Song Hyegyo your sister-in-law to be.

    pbg: Joongki hyung! According to my memory, I remember that you received this award in this same place last year, so I’m very honored to be receiving this award after you. Thank you so much for always saying great things to me, and giving me advice about acting. I hope that you’ll live happily and healthily for a long, long time with my sister-in-law to be Song Hyegyo-noonim.     I would first like to give this honor to God who is always beside me and leading me down paths of blessings. It was an honor in itself just to be invited to this meaningful festival where I can meet productions from all over the world, but thank you so much for giving me, who is still lacking, an award as major as this. There were a lot of blessing like things that happened to me last year. A sincere thanks all the fans who still haven’t forgotten 'Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’ even though it has been a year (since it finished), and those who loved the drama. I would also like to sincerely thank the directors including director Kim Sungyoon, who is here today, director Baek Sanghoon and Kang Suyeon, cinematographers Kim Sihyung and Lee Minung, and lighting director yoo cheol etc, as well as the staff members, actors and seniors who worked hard while sweating during the hot summer days. I want to tell them (staff/actors) that I was happy (while filming for the drama). Because I was working on a production with such great people, it felt like it made me, in turn, want to work harder and become a better person a well. I think that’s how I came to think “Ah, I want to become an actor who others want to work with, while being a good influence to staff members as well as other actors”. I will work hard to become a warm (hearted) actor, an actor who is able to relay his sincere feelings, and an actor who others want to work with.
