  1. Ep 8 —

    Parts I like:

    — when HYE’s mum yanked the pillow from under the sleeping dad. This is such a relatable move, i literally loled
    — HYE rescuing misook and the hospital scenes. I teared up with YE too
    — CS kissing Do Hoon in front of her dad and sticking up for her friend

    — HYE giving the Hills VP a ticking off. Daebak!

    — HYE throwing the offer to reinstate Sono back in the face of the Hills’ GM. Then she gives a symbolic two-fingered salute to the woman (because surely she can view it on cctv) by kissing JG right in the middle of the department store. HYE has guts.

Also, there have been lines uttered by various people in eps 7 & 8, which can be seen as ripostes to Kyo’s antis. I don’t have the wherewithal to make screencap gifsets here. But here are some of the quotes:

Director Hwang: Koreans are so nosy when it comes to other people’s love lives.

Seok Do Hoon: It means the past no longer affects her present.

Nam Na-ri: In this industry, people spread all sorts of groundless rumours. So of course this doesn’t surprise me. But can’t you at least try to be a little more inventive?

So Sehun fans are figuring out if his character is going to end up with soyoung or his ex hyerin lol, they are fighting,  these shippers,  anyway I don't like Soyoung but I think if he has to have a romance it will be her

Chi Hyung is not a bad chap — he sorta apologised to Soyoung and he supported Young Eun’s choice of SY’s design. Plus, for the sake of Sono, he was willing to rope in Hyerin. He has potential to succeed his father in due course.

Sehun could’ve made worse choices for his return to drama.

I do like the various sub-plots if you could call them that. I like the scenes with all the ‘minor’ characters.

I even enjoy the 3 women’s scenes together. They certainly convey a sense of shared history, a long friendship. One that survives being called names in the office

Ok I may have to take back what I wrote about Chi Sook. She is obviously trusted enough by Mi Sook to be relied upon to bail her out of car trouble. She even paid for the repairs.  She is redeemable!

Now we just need Mi Sook to confide in someone and kick out the cheating husband.

  3. Episode 5 —

Agree with some of your comments wrt chisook. She really epitomises ‘with friends like her, who needs enemies’. Let’s hope there is some character growth for her. Perhaps seok is going to help with her rehabilitation — both in her alcoholism and self-delusions.

I like how young eun handled the potential betrayal of suyoung. The way she gives people opportunities to help themselves before they ‘commit a crime’ is laudable. She doesn’t jump the gun to condemn the person.

To my surprise i really like chi hyung. I was a bit skeptical about an idol in the cast but his character is amusing, witty and sharp. He’s begun to be an asset to young eun’s sono team. And she needs people in her corner!

I’m worried about misook… I hope the show will give her a decent arc. At the moment, the tragic self-sacrificing housewife with the philandering husband, is trope-ish.

Leave this bit of sexual tension here to tantalise…

  4. Each episode seems to improve on the previous. And as one ‘mystery’ is resolved, more mysteries are presented.

What’s Jaeguk’s relationship to his mother? Will YSW’s ex-fiancee be a positive or negative force in his relationship with YE? Will MiSook tell anyone the truth of her medical condition? Is smirky Chi Hyung going to be a boon to YE’s department?

I’m enjoying the show more with all the new developments to the various characters. Looking forward to this Friday!

Leave you with one of my favourite bits from  ep 4:

On the directing and plotting of the first two episodes, I thank @thepixiesfor sharing your thoughts. It is true that the first two episodes were fast-paced with the introduction of a lot of characters. It is also true that the kisses in the first two episodes of "Now, We are breaking up" might not have sizzled the audience the way the balcony kiss scene in "Encounter" did. But that's what makes the two shows special in their own ways and at their own pace.

The setting of the first episode of "Now, We are breaking up" is the very busy and lively Busan International Fashion week, which is of course very different from the setting of the first episode of the peaceful and romantic Havana of the first episode of "Encounter".

The sex scene in the hotel room of “Now, We are breaking up” is about two people who are physically attracted to each other and primarily only wanted to spend one night together, which is of course different from the balcony kiss scene in "Encounter" where the two characters already deeply fell in love and had been through ups and downs to reach each other.

And so, they are meant for different purposes and they both well served what they are meant to serve. :)

Agree to disagree! The 2 scenes from different shows certainly serve different purposes but there are ways the NWBU’s PD could’ve made the chemistry stand out. Anyway, I didn’t feel it from ep 1.

At least they showed Mr J was intrigued enough to ‘stalk’ YE though. Their chemistry did improve in ep 2, so I’m looking forward to the next one.

  6. Hey @twtwb !!! Thanks for creating this thread btw.

To respond about some of my small disappointment with ep 1, I felt a bit lost watching it, wondering about the relationships between Ha Young Eun and the Hwang brat, and that between Mr J and PR chap. Not sure how to describe why I felt lost whilst watching it, but ep 2 made more sense.

It could also be the subbing, because in English the things they say sometimes don’t quite make sense or rather, it sounds awkward in English.

I think I as the audience was thrown into the milieu. Not necessarily a bad thing because there are only 16 episodes and the rest of the show can then expand on the characters. But for me, it was a bit disorienting.

Plotwise, it has quite a few familiar kdrama tropes — eg the disapproval from a rich family etc. I suppose it’s still early days to see if the show will turn these tropes on their head, like the way Encounter did.

I also wish the love scene was done with more oomph. It didn’t sizzle for me the way Encounter’s balcony kiss scene did

But I’m a Kyo-stan so I’ll finish watching NWBU no matter what. Lol

  7. Hey chingus,

Nice to come back to a new Kyo drama thread. Just ignore the trolls. If they think histrionics and being melodramatic = good acting, so be it. To each their own.

Have to confess I agree with some of the criticisms regarding the plotting and direction, but episode 2 certainly helped flesh out the characters a bit more.

I’ll say that it’s a testament to Kyo that certain actors and actresses seem to be her core team eg Nam Gi-ae. Mebbe she reminds Kyo of her real mum.

I also think that lately Kyo has chosen roles that resonate to an aspect of her life or character*. I felt CSH in Encounter reflected some of her real life experiences as a child of a divorcee.

In NWBU I see her being a mature adult who doesn’t need to apologise for how she conducts her love life.

So regardless of antis’ criticisms (and we know there are rabid knetz as well as international ones) or how the ratings perform, I can appreciate the statement she’s made in NWBU. Hope to see her character’s development as the episodes continue.

*Having said that, I think the vengeful character in The Glory probably isn’t a realistic reflection of anything she went through lol

If someone has a Weibo account or Chinese friends ask them to spread this on Weibo.

This is the original article https://news.nate.com/view/20190725n21640?mid=n1008

This is the English translations from NB.

    http://netizenbuzz.blogspot.com/2019/07/song-hye-gyo-to-take-legal-action.html?m=1

It’s alarming how much these netizens can lie and now they’re blaming the Chinese for making up all the rumors. Yes, they’re actually saying she should be suing them instead of Koreans; thereby implying that she favors a foreign country over her own people making this an “us versus them” debate.

    https://n.news.naver.com/entertain/article/213/0001120992

this article reported Kyo’s decision to sue all the accused was trending in China. So the netizens started telling her to leave for China and asked her if she was also suing the Chinese.

The purpose of sharing this with the Chinese is to show just how rumors start in South Korea, nobody fact checks so even those in China who might have doubted Kyo because of the rumors will know the real truth ; which is that all the chirashi were fabricated by a few people who wanted to harm her reputation.

Knetz don’t have to worry about the Chinese side not being proactive.  Cnetz have already been sending screencaps of weibo posts and convos to UAA.

The main concern is a question of jurisdiction, if Kim & Chang are able to bring suits to Chinese entities, eg the paid trolls who post pre-prepared articles. On top of that, there are the restrictions on South Korean entertainers.  If Kyo tries to sue parties in China, I don’t know if there will be a backlash.

But what I hope K & C have been doing this past month, is to trace the origins of these hydra heads of rumours.  It would be very interesting to know who has been behind them all.

  9. YASSSSS!!!!  I knew she had to finish up the divorce proceedings first, before tackling all the rumour-mongers.

Take that, all those who believed the drivel that was spewing from the other side and insulting her left right centre.  Slap! Slap! Slap!

Looking forward to seeing who’s gonna be hauled up to face the music!  No mercy!

This is such GREAT NEWS, @ahdrianaa! Thank you!

Hope Kyo & Co. are enjoying the blissful Parisian summer.

  10. Thanks @gigivillaceran and @ahdrianaa for highlighting that Chaumet Korean staff’s post.    Her caption is wonderful!

I like how daringly low-cut Jenie’s dress is too.  Everyone’s brought their A-game.

On Chaumet’s ig, it’s interesting that of the recent portraits, only Kyo, Natalie Portman and Berenice Bejo were given two pix per post.

@dukesa1122  One of the mags had a recent insta story of a couple of the tiaras but it’s been deleted. Boo!

Anyway, the Bourbon-Parma tiara, famously worn by Princess Mia Thermopolis of Genovia, is actually related to half of Europe’s real royal families;  another belonged to the rather scandalous Countess Mountbatten, the last Vicereine of India.

  11. Yeah, her situation with knetz is a little like a prophet in his own country etc etc...

If she’s truly as mercenary as what the antis say, then let’s recall her 20th anniversary fanmeet, where instead of charging for tickets she gave presents to the fans who attended.  Uri Kyo is a generous, lovely lady and deserves her fans.

    Spoiler

It’s society’s double standards where nobody remarks on why the man is happily watching a play or celebrating with his new film’s crew.

Their break up has obviously been a while and both need to work.  She’s just being professional and doing her job.  And besides, who wouldn’t wanna go to Monaco, stay in an elegant hotel and wear pretty baubles. Duh. By the way, the history and associated personalities of the Chaumet tiaras are amazing.

    I got my wish!!!!

Marie Claire Korea confirmed Kyo is in Monaco, this is the jewelry she will be wearing. Other celebrities like Chinese actress Liu Yi Fed who plays Mulan in the uplcoming Disney production will also attend.

    So cool!

I kinda feel this particular piece would resonate with SHK because of its inspiration from the art world.  Chaumet has stated that the Les Ciels collection draws inspiration from Turner through to Japanese woodblock prints and Van Gogh.

The latter in particular has already a connection with uri Kyo.  You’ll remember the cinema scene in Encounter, where Jinsoo watched Loving Vincent, a film where Van Gogh’s art comes alive.

And in Chaumet’s necklace, we may see some of the brilliant hues in Van Gogh’s oils of night skies.

  13. #throwbacktuesday  #spiritofvolunteerism

SONG HYEGYO was one of the volunteers helping to clean up the Taean Spill in Jan 2008.

Laneige, the brand she was endorsing then, later joined in when they found out she was going to volunteer in her personal capacity.  The photo of SHK was only circulated (and not widely) months after she volunteered.

The oil spill is South Korea’s worst, when a Samsung crane barge collided with a ship carrying crude oil.  About 260,000 tonnes was spilled and US$330 million was spent in the clean up effort

    Song Hyegyo, hwaiting!

    Spoiler

    Ms Song,

Think I won’t ship you with anyone again.

    Hi chingu,

Nothing amiss with your punctuation or even spelling and grammar. However, I think you must’ve lost your way looking for the shipper thread.  This isn’t it.

    Good luck on your travels.

    Cheerio

    Spoiler

I would be sad but respectful if a joint statement had been released after the divorce was indeed quietly settled.  But once his actions (and non-action) started a media circus, many knetz have been and continue to be vehemently anti-Kyo and sympathetic to him.

As such, why should I add my sympathy to him. Ludicrous. I only apologise to the drama gods for shipping them in the past.  My utter bad.
