These days I don't bother to correct the wrong translations that I see or read, but since this one is important I just want to correct the translation that I've seen reposted on IG several times already
According to all the news articles like this one (http://www.yonhapnews.co.kr/bulletin/2016/10/07/0200000000AKR20161007179800004.HTML?input=1195m)
the netizens who have been fined for the "malicious/slanderous comments" have nothing to do with the fan-meeting. It's to do with the rumours spread by these people/netizens almost 2-3 years ago that Kyo had a powerful sponsor. UAA had already taken legal action against the people making these false statements, the court reached their final verdict and found these netizens guilty of the said misdemeanour under the law against Cyber Defamation in South Korea. It is my understanding after reading on the internet (* I am not an expert of South Korean laws, this is just to explain the magnitude of the judgement passed in favour of Kyo) that people found guilty can be categorised under these penal provisions
- Any person who has defamed any other person by alleging openly facts through information and communications networks [anyone stating true comments by internet and email] with the purpose of slandering him shall be subject to imprisonment with or without prison labor for not more than 3 years or by a fine not exceeding 20 million won.
- Any person who has defamed any other person by alleging openly false facts via information and communications networks [anyone stating false comments on the internet and email] with the purpose of slandering him/her shall be subject to imprisonment with prison labor for not more than 7 years or the suspension of disqualification for not more than 10 years, or by a fine not exceeding 50 million won [approximately US$50,000. ].
Congratulations Kyo, you've been vindicated yet again!
