SEOUL, Aug. 18 (Korea Bizwire) – Korean zombie flick “Train to Busan” became the 11st most-viewed film in South Korea, drawing more than 11 million in attendance, data showed Thursday.

The movie directed by Yeon Sang-ho has garnered 11,007,065 viewers until Wednesday, the 29th day of its run, according to the computerized box-office figures from the Korean Film Council. This made it the 11st most-viewed of all films screened in the country after “Haeundae,” which was seen by 11.3 million people in 2009.

“Train to Busan” was 10th among all Korean films in terms of audience numbers.

The zombie thriller depicts a group of passengers battling against an attack by people infected with a mysterious virus on a Busan-bound bullet train, which is no longer safe from the nationwide viral outbreak. It stars Gong Yoo, Kim Soo-an, Jung Yu-mi and Ma Dong-seok.

On Wednesday (local time), the movie opened on 256 screens across France, according to its Korean distributor, the Next Entertainment World.

The number is the second largest after “Snowpiercer,” the English-language debut by Korean director Bong Joon-ho, among Korean films that have received screenings in the European country. Bong’s film was seen on 307 screens.

Earlier, “Train to Busan” was released in North America, Singapore, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand. It has earned US$1.35 million in the United States.
