Yamash!ta Tomohisa aka Yamapi (yamaP, pi) is a member of the J-pop group NewS from Johnny’s Entertainment, Inc. He entered JE and became a member of Johnny’s Juniors when he was 11 years old. He is affectionately called by his friends as Yamapi, which is a nickname given to him by Takizawa Hideaki (Tackey & Tsubasa). His closest friends call him Pi, which was first used by Akanishi Jin (KAT-TUN). Since joining JE, he has been a member of Jr. groups B.I.G., Four Tops, and most recently NewS. Yamapi began to appear in television dramas soon after he joined JE. In 2000, at age 15, his performance in Ikebukuro West Gate Park earned him an award for ‘Best Supporting Actor’. That same year, he was voted first place in the Annual Junior Awards for ‘Best Boyfriend’, ‘Most Beautiful’, etc. for the first time. When Takizawa Hideaki made his debut with Imai Tsubasa as Tackey & Tsubasa in 2002, he left as the leader of Johnny’s Juniors. Around the same time, Yamapi, Ikuta Toma, Hasegawa Jun, and Kazama Shunsuke formed Four Tops and began to host the Junior television program The Shonen Club (Boy’s Club). In September 2003, 9 people from Johnny’s Juniors were chosen to form the group NewS with Yamapi as the leader. NewS’s formation came as a shock to not only the fans of Four Tops but its own members as well. Yamapi later revealed that at the time, aside from Nishikido Ryo, he had barely talked to any of the other group members. NewS made its formal debut on May 12, 2004. Since its debut, NewS has had four consecutive #1 singles on the Oricon Ranking Chart. In October 2005, Yamapi and Kamenashi Kazuya from KAT-TUN formed the temporary paring Shuuji to Akira to promote their television show Nobuta Wo Produce. (Shuuji and Akira are their characters in the drama.) They also released the single Seishun Amigo under the name Shuuji to Akira, which sold over 1 million copies in 4 weeks. Seishun Amigo is No.1 best selling single on the Oricon Yearly Single Rankings for 2005. ahh i love yamapi~ when i watched him in NWP i thought he was kinda weird, based on his character. but after i watched stand up and got into NEWS's music... i felt in love =DD he is so cute and hot~

Yayyyy i love Pi-kun <3 i cant wait for his drama in april~~ hes gonna be playing the LEAD ROLE yayyy ^^

its a drama based on the manga of the same title, & its about a guy (Pi) who commits fraud against ppl who commit fraud against others (kinda confusing haha XD) but it seems interesting, i cant wait to see it!!

Oh yeah, Seishun Amigo (to this date) has sold 3.3 million units. I'll find the article for it right now.

"Fredrik Hult, Ola Larsson and Jonas Engstrand are the ones beind one of the songs on the big japanese boyband NewS' coming single (Johnny's Entertainment), "Join the Samba", which also is going to be opening song for the movie "One Piece". The second song on this "double A-side-single" is called "Cinderella Boy" and is written by Stefan Åberg.

And the year of 2005's biggest single "Seishun Amigo" (Hult/Larsson/Engstrand) is continuing to sell in Japan and had in the middle of January reached about 1,5 million of CD-singles sold, and over 1,8 millions of "truetones" for cellphone, which is over 3,3 million of sold units."
