[08.07.02][news] Comic book featuring Shinhwa to be released on July 4th

What if we combine stars together with comics?

A comic book featuring top group Shinhwa as key characters will be released very soon, and naturally attracting a lot of attention from the public and the media. The combination of Hallyu stars and comics is a first, a move to target the booming Korean manhwa and Japanese manga industries.

On July 4th, the comic book SMACKER, featuring Shinhwa members Lee Minwoo, Shin Hyesung, Andy, Eric, Junjin and Kim Dongwan, will be available at bookstores nationwide. Although previously celebs like Kim Hyun Jung, Jang Yoon Jung have been featured in a comic book, it was more of a illustrated biography.

SMACKER is more of the action genre. The plot tells of how the 6 of them were separated as children due to their families moving and emigrating, how they meet again in high school and their adventures. Kim Dongwan's character is a student by day who operates a roadside stall by night. He often clashes with the mobsters in his village but with the help of his friends he always resolves the crises. The members' characters are habitual troublemakers who always end up at the police station, but yet they live their lives with passion.

The author Park Chan Seob has produced other works such as Shinmungo, and is an established comic artist with 14 years of expereince. Prior to the release of the comic book, he said in an interview with Booking magazine that he had already prepared for this since 2 years ago, and he is only releasing it now after he had sorted out copyright issues with using the members' names and likenesses. "Going forward, every month there will be a new issue featuring their various adventures."

Discussions are underway to bring the comic to Japan. This may in fact create a whole new genre of Hallyu contents in the Japanese manga market.

Niaecc, the company that represents Park Chan Seob, released details and pictures of the comic book on their official website. "In future, other than Shinhwa, we will also be featuring other Hallyu stars in our comics, to further fuel the Hallyu wave for television, movie and music,"

Yes, i just listened to the song "destiny of love" too. dont understand korean. so i didnt really cry until i saw the MV spot. now that made me cry =[. so some of u found the translated lyrics on shinhwa biz? *goes right now and need to read them* do u girls know when the full MV is going to be released? i cant wait for it. im probably be crying so much by the time i finished watching the MV. ><

Destiny of Love

It's so worth it to get the white edition for this song.

The song starts off with thunder and the sounds of rainfall.

It's so sad. The tremble in each member's voice just gets to me. The lamenting back-vocals of 'huh, huh, hoo, ooOO' and the violin strings in the song just emphasizes it that much more. To me, the 'huh, huh' in the back vocals is an interesting choice. IMO, bowed-stringed instruments like the violin are the saddest sounding instruments; they just sound like they're crying and crying. In contrast to the violin's pure sadness, the guitar riffs really bring anguish into the song...the song isn't just sad and heart-wrenching, it can be sad and heart-wrenching in a violent way.

IMO, this kind of ballad with soaring climaxes is the most suited for Hyesung's vocals after all. Every one of the line he sings sounds like a cry for salvation. You hair just rises, and he doesn't release you unitl he finishes singing. I sometimes wonder if Hyesung's choice of solo songs are a way to really challenge himself. He's not meant to sing low, and he knows it (I remember him mentioning it once on a show with Group S). Remember Hyesung's Radio DJ diaries? These lyrics really bring back memories in that sense, don't they? Hyesung pens lyrics so well, but he does it pretty rarely...must take something out of him each time he does.

Is it possible for Eric's voice to get even sexier? Apparently, it is. His rhythm just seems to get better and better over the years. It's the same with his lyrics. As he matures, you see more and more of him in them. Like his personality, his rap lyrics are simple words, but make an odd kind of sense. Eric's entry into the rapping in this song is awesome. It's like he pulls you in, and you can't help be pulled in and nod to his rhythm, and when he releases you, you wish for more.

Jinnie's deep voice provides the perfect pillar to hold on to in the sweeping 'crazy sadness' of the song...and so it suits the lyrics very well. It's a little sad that the last song they'd probably leave us with as a group before the army doesn't have Jinnie rapping. Minwoo was right when he once called Jinnie's rap the 'point' of the song.

Dongwan's vocals sound hoarser and lower in this song. It's as haunting and addicting as he always sounds in this kind of song. Compared to Minsyung's heart-grabbing style in this song, and Jinnie's stability, it sounds so hollow, hollow, and empty, empty. It's not light or anything, but when you listen to it, it feels like you'e shut in an empty container by yourself or that it flutters and you can't quite grab hold of it. It's like you're in a great void.

Andy, Andy For some reason, no matter how sad, everytime I hear Andy rap, it just makes me smile. Of all the members, I love Andy's speaking voice the most. He doesn't pull you in and command your full attention like Eric does; his rap gives the same hollow and fluttery feeling Dongwan's vocals give.

Because of the guitars and the hi-hat tapping, the beat reminds me of M's Mirage and Girlfriend, abeitly much, much sadder...so it's possible to see where Minwoo was coming from when he composed this. I've always loved the softer songs Minwoo composed in the older Shinhwa albums...it compliments his quieter personalty and you can feel it. Like most Minwoo's compositions, there's a definite beat that makes you tap your pencils to, but not one that's too obvious, it annoys you...well, it doesn't annoy me anyways ^^; Minwoo's vocals is not the strongest in the group, but presently, his breathing technique is. His trembling voice towards the end of the song just kills. Unlike Hyesung's soaring sadness, his is a quieter cry.

From parts of 6th jib and ever since 7th album, some of the songs from Shinhwa sounded distinctively 'non-boybandish' to me...and I couldn't figure out why. It's the same bunch of guys I've been listening to for forever, but what was different? Is it the music choice? It is, but it isn't. I think I've kind of figured it out. Listening to Shinhwa these days is more like listening to a collaboration of established solo artists then a run-of-the-mill boyband. You know how it always attracts people's interest when artists do collaborations? They wonder how each artist would interpret the same song and how each of them would sing it using their own style and technique. That's what listening to Shinhwa feels like to me these days If you think about it from the point of view of collaborations, I think people would be hard-pressed to arrange an collaboration of six such artists. It's really something special.

Sorry about the long post. For singers of more than 10 years, each sound that comes out of their mouths speaks a million stories of hardwork on their own; it deserves a few minutes of my time to really listen to each of them.

Every song I listen to is special in it's own way to me.
