Character descriptions

Baek Ah Jin (Kim Yoo Jung) is a top actress in South Korea who hides a cruel nature behind her beautiful face. She climbs to the highest point in her career by stepping over the wounds of her childhood, wearing a mask to survive.

 

Yoon Joon Seo (Kim Young Dae) is a man who believes that salvation is love. Having stayed by Baek Ah Jin’s side his entire life, Yoon Joon Seo is her only sanctuary and her fatal Achilles’ heel. He has walked through any mire for Baek Ah Jin, and now he moves to destroy everything he has protected up until now for the sake of love.

 

Kim Jae Oh (Kim Do Hoon) stays by Baek Ah Jin’s side in a different way from Yoon Joon Seo. Having endured the abuse of his father, who was obsessed with a cult, and survived a rough life, Kim Jae Oh finds a reason to live in Baek Ah Jin, who shares similar pain. Kim Jae Oh willingly becomes her shadow.

 

Rena (Lee Yul Eum) is a former idol turned actress who has risen to the top thanks to her exceptional beauty and luck. She is tough and has a strong enough mentality to survive in the industry, however, her life gets shaken when Baek Ah Jin and Yoon Jun Seo appear in her life. By helplessly falling in love with Yoon Joon Seo, Rena gets caught in an endless unrequited love which only gives her despair.

On June 4, STARNEWS reported that Kim Yoo Jung will be starring in the new drama “Dear X” (working title).

In response to the report, Kim Yoo Jung’s agency awesome.ent shared, “‘Dear X’ is one of the projects Kim Yoo Jung received an offer for.”

Based on a webtoon, “Dear X” follows the story of Baek Ah Jin, who gains success by using others to gain what she wants, as she becomes a famous actress but falls down from the top. Kim Yoo Jung has reportedly been offered the role of the lead character Baek Ah Jin who has antisocial personality disorder.

According to the reports, producing director (PD) Lee Eung Bok of “Dream High,” “School 2013,” “Descendants of the Sun,” “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God,” and more is reviewing the project, while screenwriter Choi Ja Won is in charge of the script.

Kim You Jung will reportedly portray the role of an actress in a new K-drama by the Sweet Home director.

On June 4, media outlets revealed that Kim You Jung will be the main lead of the upcoming webtoon-based K-drama Dear X. According to reports, top director Lee Eung Bok will be handling the K-drama alongside writer Choi Ja Won. 

Kim You Jung's agency Awesome Entertainment shared their response to the casting news. According to them, "Dear X is one of the projects that has been offered to Kim You Jung. The actress is currently considering her next project and nothing has been decided." 

This year, Kim You Jung starred in the Netflix original K-drama Chicken Nugget with Ryu Seung Ryong, Ahn Jae Hong, and Kim Nam Hee. She was Ryu Seung Ryong's daughter in the series that turned into a chicken nugget because of a mysterious machine. 

In 2023, she impressed everyone with her beauty, charms, and great chemistry with actor Song Kang. The two led the fantasy romance K-drama My Demon. 

If Kim You Jung confirms her casting for Dear X, this will be the next K-drama that will be based on a webtoon. Back in 2020, she also led the webtoon-based series Backstreet Rookie with Ji Chang Wook,

Kim Young Dae will possibly be the next male lead of Kim You Jung in a new K-drama.

On June 5, media outlets reported that Kim Young Dae had been picked to join the upcoming K-drama Dear X. The K-drama was first offered to Kim You Jung and the actress is currently considering the offer. 

Meanwhile, Kim Young Dae's agency also gave their official statement regarding the casting reports. According to Outer Universe, "Kim Young Dae was offered a leading role in Dear X. It is one of the works that he is currently reviewing."

Kim Young Dae made his acting debut in 2018. immediately after his debut, he already garnered fans because of his visuals and his tone of voice. Many also named him as a Kang Dong Won-like figure. 

Aside from Dear X, Kim Young Dae will lead the upcoming romantic comedy K-drama No Loss in Love with Shin Min Ah, Lee Sang Yi, Han Ji Hyun, Jeon Hye Won, and Lee Yoo Jin. He will also be part of the cast of the upcoming webtoon-based K-drama Perfect Family.

Actor Kim Do Hoon will reportedly be added to the cast of the upcoming thriller psychological romance K-drama Dear X.

According to media outlets on June 25, Kim Do Hoon also received the offer to star in the upcoming K-drama Dear X. He will possibly work alongside Kim You Jung and Kim Young Dae who also received the casting offer. 

Kim Do Hoon's agency hasn't responded to the casting reports. 

If the rising actor decides to join Dear X, this will be his third upcoming K-drama. Kim Do Hoon is also set to star in the new series Your Honor and Acquaintances. 

Early this year, he made a special cameo appearance in The Escape of the Seven: Resurrection. 

Kim Do Hoon also recently starred in the Netflix original entertainment program Agents of Mystery wherein he worked alongside Girls Day's Lee Hye Ri, Lee Yong Jin, John Park, Lee Eun Ji, and aespa's Karina.

Previously, it was revealed that Kim Yoo Jung and Kim Young Dae are also in talks to star in the drama.

Hwang In Youp will make a cameo appearance in Kim You Jung's new K-drama "Dear. X"

Hwang In Youp is set to reunite with  Kim You Jung in the upcoming K-drama Dear X.

According to an exclusive report from media outlet Hankyung on June 26, actor Hwang In Youp will make a special cameo appearance in one of the episodes of the upcoming K-drama Dear X. 

This will be the reunion of Hwang In Yeop and reported Dear X. main lead, Kim You Jung. The two have worked together in the 2022 entertainment program Young Actors' Retreat. Many are hoping that the two work together in a K-drama after they saw their chemistry in the variety show.

Before Hwang In Youp stars in Dear X, the actor will first lead the upcoming K-drama Family by Choice with Jung Chae Yeon, Bae Hyeon Seong, Seo Ji Hye, Choi Won Young, and Choi Moo Sung. 

Hwang In Yeop was last seen in the 2022 K-drama Why Her? and the Netflix original K-drama The Sound of Magic.

TVING’s new series Dear X has announced their main lineup, pushing Kim Yoo-jung (Chicken Nugget) and Kim Young-dae (Moon in the Day) to the extreme – all in the name of that thing we call love – in our story’s self-proclaimed “chillingly beautiful melo-thriller.”

Based on the popular and same-titled webtoon, our heroine is actress Baek Ah-jin (Kim Yoo-jung) who hides her true nature behind the mask of Korea’s beloved star. This has been Ah-jin’s survival mechanism, honing manipulative tactics to rise from the bottom dregs and reach the top of A-list fame. But in doing so, she neglected her own inner self – as well as the lingering trauma from her childhood – and now everything she built has started to crumble.

 

Yoon Jun-seo (Kim Young-dae) believes, though, that loving Ah-jin means saving her and has stuck by Ah-jin’s side to be her shelter – helping her to feel safe while also becoming her one Achilles’ heel.
