tvN’s upcoming drama “Is It Fate?” (also known as “Is It a Coincidence”) has set its premiere date!

 

On June 21, tvN announced that Kim So Hyun and Chae Jong Hyeop’s new drama “Is It Fate?” will premiere on July 22 at 8:40 p.m. KST.

 

Based on the popular webtoon of the same name, “Is It Fate?” will tell the story of young people finding true love and their dreams after accidentally running into their first love from 10 years ago. Kim So Hyun will star as Lee Hong Joo, an animation producer who is afraid of love due to painful memories from her previous relationship—and who undergoes an unexpected change after running into Kang Hoo Young (Chae Jong Hyeop), who witnessed some of her lowest moments from her past.

 

“I’m delighted to be able to play the fun and lovable character of Lee Hong Joo,” said Kim So Hyun. “I hope you’ll look forward to this heartwarming and lovely drama.”

 

Chae Jong Hyeop will star as Kang Hoo Young, a handsome and highly intelligent financial planner living in the United States who never needed to work hard to achieve great results. Bored with his dull and meaningless life, Kang Hoo Young finds his heart fluttering again when he returns to Korea for the first time in a long while and unexpectedly reunites with Lee Hong Joo, his first love from high school, after 10 years.

 

Chae Jong Hyeop remarked, “I’m thrilled and honored to be able to play Kang Hoo Young, a character with depth.”

Serendipity leads Kim So-hyun and Chae Jong-hyeop to reunite

The first script reading stills have been released for tvN’s Serendipity’s Embrace, signaling the start of our rom-com’s promo train with Kim So-hyun (My Lovely Liar) and Chae Jong-hyeop (Castaway Diva, Eye Love You) headlining the webtoon adaptation.

In a classic coming-of-age and first love romance, the story follows our high school sweethearts as fate gives them a second chance ten years later, when they’re coincidentally reunited at the age of 29.

 

Here, our heroine is PD Lee Hong-joo (Kim So-hyun), who works in animation production. Having fallen hard for our hero during her younger years, even now she still carries baggage from their breakup and – for now – remains a cynic about love.

On his part, Kang Hoo-young (Chae Jong-hyeop) has been living abroad for the last 10 years and has been working as a financial planner. Although he’s described as level-headed in both romance and in his career, he of course will have his emotions upheaved when he meets Hong-joo again in South Korea.

Yoon Ji-on (My Lovely Liar) takes on the part of the free-spirited writer Bang Jun-ho who wistfully wishes that time travel was real. To this day, he lives with regret for a decision he made in the past and is now trying to make up for lost time.

As English teacher Kim Hye-ji, Dasom (Kokdu: Season of Deity) is said to be sincere about love and works at our story’s Oh-bok High School. She’s also best friends with our heroine Hong-joo and have known each other since their school days.

In supporting roles, Lee Won-jung (Hierarchy) rounds out the main friend group as Hoo-young’s self-proclaimed bestie, in addition to being friends with both Hong-joo and Hye-ji. Speaking of the latter, Hwang Sung-bin (Frankly Speaking) is colleagues with her at Oh-bok High as the P.E. teacher and is nicknamed Superman by the students.

The cast lineup also includes CEO Yoon Jung-hee (Now We Are Breaking Up) and Hoo-young’s uncle Choi Dae-chul (The Real Has Come), as well as a special guest appearance by Kim Jung-nan (Queen of Tears) playing Hoo-young’s mother.

Taking us down the first love memory lane, a new teaser has gently breezed in for tvN’s upcoming Serendipity’s Embrace, bringing the stirrings of fuzzy romance for our leads: Kim So-hyun (My Lovely Liar) and Chae Jong-hyeop (Castaway Diva, Eye Love You).

We thus begin the teaser in flashback, as Kang Hoo-young (Chae Jong-hyeop) reminisces about their high school days, when he first took notice of our smiling heroine (Kim So-hyun) ten years in the past. It doesn’t take long for Hoo-young to become smitten and in voiceover, he recalls, “Lee Hong-joo, I don’t know when it started. When you call out, ‘Kang Hoo-young,’ it feels heavy here from beating so much.”

 

 

As our pair’s relationship blossoms, we wistfully read in the appearing captions, “First love. Can it start again?” The teaser then switches to Hong-joo’s perspective, who realizes feelings on her part when a tired Hoo-young had fallen asleep on her shoulder. Putting a hand to her heart, she honestly reveals that, “My heart just skipped right now.”

The final sequence continues all the lovey dovey feels and looks to be a rekindling of sparks when our leads are reunited again in the present by chance. But something must have changed for Hong-joo during the ten years our leads were apart. And as the teaser comes to a close, we’re left with Hoo-young pondering about coincidences as Hoo-young questions what exactly happened to Hong-joo during that time.

Upcoming romance drama “Serendipity’s Embrace” has released a new teaser!

Based on a popular webtoon, “Serendipity’s Embrace” will tell the story of young people finding true love and their dreams after accidentally running into their first love from 10 years ago. Kim So Hyun stars as Lee Hong Joo, an animation producer who is afraid of love due to painful memories from her previous relationship—and who undergoes an unexpected change after running into Kang Hoo Young (Chae Jong Hyeop), who witnessed some of her lowest moments from her past.

The newly released teaser video begins with Lee Hong Joo’s narration, “First love is special because it only happens once in a lifetime.” However, Lee Hong Joo’s memory of her first love when she handed a love letter to Kang Hoo Young is no longer exciting or special.

After 10 years, Kang Hoo Young reappears in front of Lee Hong Joo, who tells people to never reunite with their first love. The text that reads, “A romance that summons memories of first love, which started again by chance,” makes viewers curious about the relationship between the two.

First loves Kim So-hyun and Chae Jong-hyeop meet in Serendipity’s Embrace

It’s time to reminisce upon first loves with the latest teaser for tvN’s rom-com Serendipity’s Embrace, whisking us back to our leads’ rose-tinted high school days. Love is in the air, bringing a shy smile to our heroine’s face as our smitten hero follows behind like a loyal puppy.

“A first love is special because it’s once in a lifetime,” sighs Kim So-hyun (My Lovely Liar) dreamily. Yet it turns out that sentiment is a thing of the past. All grown up now, our jaded heroine Lee Hong-joo warns that you shouldn’t ever meet your first love again. Cue a shocked Hong-joo spitting out her drink onto the sleeve of none other than her first love Kang Hoo-young, played by Chae Jong-hyeop (Castaway Diva). Hong-joo’s wide-eyed, gaping-mouthed expression says it all.

 

Reunited by sheer coincidence, the pair keep bumping into each other around every corner, much to Hong-joo’s annoyance. “Stay away!” Hong-joo instructs, the moment Hoo-young comes even a little too close. On Hoo-young’s part, he’s much less averse to their reunion — in fact, he may even be glad for it. “Was that day a bad memory for you?” Hoo-young asks, though we aren’t privy to said events, nor do we hear Hong-joo’s reply. Still, his steadfast devotion to her hasn’t changed one bit, despite her constant rebuffing. “I’m telling you, Hoo-young brazenly crossed the line first!” Hong-joo insists, but it almost sounds like a justification for her wavering feelings.

 

As per the rom-com rules, they wind up in close proximity several times. In one instance, Hong-joo falls on top of Hoo-young; in another, they’re caught in the rain together. Gradually, Hoo-young seems to be inching his way into Hong-joo’s good books, if the scribble on the parking sign is any indication — “Don’t park in my heart without permission!” Hong-joo may be keeping her distance to avoid repeating past mistakes, but Hoo-young responds with sincerity, time and time again. “It’s never been a joke,” Hoo-young confesses. “Not now, and not ten years ago.”

We don’t see the rest of the cast in the teaser, but we have Yoon Ji-on (My Lovely Liar) as the author Bang Joon-ho, who boasts the honor of having Hong-joo as his first — and biggest — fan. Joining him is Dasom (Kokdu: Season of Deity) as the English teacher Kim Hye-ji, whose first love was Hoo-young. Rounding out the supporting cast, we also have Lee Won-jung (Hierarchy), Hwang Sung-bin (Frankly Speaking), Choi Dae-chul (A Walk), Kim Won-hae (Player 2 – Master of Swindlers), Yoon Jung-hee (Now, We Are Breaking Up), and Kim Jung-nan (Queen of Tears).

Directed by PD Song Hyun-wook (The Midnight Studio) with scripts penned by Park Geu-ro, 8-episode drama Serendipity’s Embrace is slated to premiere soon on July 22.

Lee Won Jung, Kim Won Hae, Kim Jung Nan, and More Tease Limitless Drama in "Serendipity's Embrace"

tvN's upcoming Monday-Tuesday drama Serendipity's Embrace released still cuts of Lee Won Jung, Hwang Sung Bin, Choi Dae Chul, Kim Won Hae, Yoon Jung Hee, and Kim Jung Nan.

Serendipity's Embrace is about Lee Hong Joo (Kim So Hyun) and Yeong (Chae Jong Hyeop) reuniting after ten years and finding their destinies.

My Perfect Stranger actor Lee Won Jung plays Kwon Sang Pil, a close friend of Lee Hong Ju and Kim Hye Ji, and the self-proclaimed best friend of Kang Hu Yeong. He runs the restaurant Meat Again Today, often visited by Lee Hong Ju and Kim Hye Ji. The trio have been friends for ten years.

 

 

Weak Hero Class 1's Hwang Sung Bin shines as Son Gyeong Taek, a physical education teacher at Ohbok High School. He is a kind and dependable person who is the number one son-in-law candidate among the adults around him. But he has had a crush on his fellow teacher, Kim Hye Ji, for a long time.

 

 

Choi Dae Chul (The Golden Spoon, Psychopath Diary) plays Baek Wook, a free-spirited man who is Lee Hong Ju's landlord and Kang Hu Yeong's uncle. He is also the Korean branch manager of "Rock Asset". 

 

 

Kim Won Hae (Lovely Runner, Revenant, The Good Bad Mother) transforms into Kim Bok Nam, Ohbok High School's vice principal, whom Lee Hong Ju regards as her savior. A former student dean, he is a typical old-fashioned man, but he is also the hard-on-the-outside-but-soft-on-the-inside type who helped Lee Hong Ju through his daughter, Kim Hye Ji.

Yoon Jung Hee (The Firstborn) takes on the role of Bae Hye Suk, the CEO of Peter's Pen. Rational and cool-headed, she recognizes the passion of nineteen-year-old Lee Hong Ju for animation.

Kim Jung Nan (Queen of Tears, Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938, Reborn Rich, Snowdrop, Mouse, Crash Landing on You, SKY Castle, Who Are You: School 2015) makes a special appearance as Baek Do Seon, Kang Hu Yeong's mother. After immigrating to the U.S., she grew the asset management company "Rock Asset" into a mid-sized company. She planned her son Kang Hu Yeong's life to be failure-proof. However, she notices a change in him brought about by Lee Hong Ju.
