'The Sandglass' Voted Best Korean Soap Since 1980

“The Sandglass” (1994) was voted the best Korean TV soap opera since 1980 by 20 star producers and drama writers, including Kim Jong-hak, Choi Wan-kyu and Noh Hee-kyung.

“The Sandglass,” written by Song Ji-na and directed by Kim, was praised for its realistic portrayal of how dark political situations affect individual’s lives. It was so popular that people often went home early from work to catch it.

“Jewel in the Palace” (2004), which was hyped as the ultimate TV soap opera, came in second. "Eyes of Dawn” took third place, followed by “Winter Sonata” and “You and I.”

<News Excerpt> Koreans love to watch tv dramas and the number of dramas they produced is astonishing. Yet among these tv dramas, which are the ones that the audience want to watch again and again? Which are the most unforgettable drama love teams?

Korea's mtube.com from May 19 to 29 in cooperation with MBC and SBS ran a survey among 3,462 respondents in their respective websites. The first question posed was [Which Is Your Favorite TV Drama?]. Results showed that the drama series, MBC's <Eyes of Dawn> ,which created an uproar eleven years ago, and SBS's <Sha Lo> topped the survey, with 29 and 28 percent of the votes respectively.

Among MBC's tv dramas, the classic Korean drama <Hotelier> came out second with 11.2 percent of the votes. The 1996-produced and the first Korean idol drama <A Wish Upon A Star> got 10.8 percent. The others to make it into the top five included the drama <Jealousy> filmed ten years ago and <M>.

A second survey was also conducted, on [Who Is the Most Compatible Couple in a TV Drama?]. Results run parallel to the votes on favorite tv dramas. Among MBC's most compatible couples, first place went to Choi Jae-sang - Chae Shi-ra of <Eyes of Dawn> with 17.3 percent. Second place went to Bae Yong-jun - Song Yun-ah of the <Hotelier> fame with 13.5 percent of the votes. They were followed by Ahn Jae-woo - Choi Jin-sil of <A Wish Upon A Star> with 10.3 percent. Jang Dong-gun and Shin Eun-ha of <The Last Match> and <Jealousy>'s Choi Syu-jong and Choi Jin-sil placed 4th and 5th, respectively.

They didn't mentioned what happened. They only mentioned that she was living under her grandfather (Harim's Girlfriend's father) at Kyoto. Wish they could've mentioned more.

The storyline, the actor/actresses (go Choi Jae Sung, Chae Si Ra, and Park Sang Won), the OST (Big Thanks to Choi Kyung Shik), and the directing was just beyond phenomenal!

This is a total recommendation if someone wants to see a lifetime drama!
