Kim Yoo Jung Talks About Taking On Her First Lead Role In “Moonlight Drawn By Clouds”

With her recent successful drama “Moonlight Drawn By Clouds,” Kim Yoo Jung recently sat down for an interview to talk about her experience.

The actress talked about acting in her first lead role in the drama as Hong Ra On. “It would be a lie if I said it wasn’t burdensome. When we were first filming for the drama, a lot of my self-confidence was disappearing,” explained Kim Yoo Jung. But she also revealed the support of the staff and actors on set, saying, “It was the first time I had ever received that much praise. They would say things to me like, ‘You’re doing well. We trust you and we’re depending on you, so why can’t you trust yourself?’ Those words gave me a lot of strength.”

Kim Yoo Jung also talked about how helpful it was to have Park Bo Gum share his blunt and honest feedback on her acting. “We had a lot of conversations where we shared our honest and blunt feedback. Because of that, we depended on each other a lot, and it was really comfortable during filming as well,” she said.

When asked about her dreams, Kim Yoo Jung replied, “I want to be an excellent actress who respects everyone and is respected by everyone.”

Cebu's Group Basketball in swimming pool

- In our Cebu trip, there are over 100 casts an crews travelling together, being in the same bus made us become closer.  In the hotel, there is outdoor swimming pool, our 4 women gangs ( including Kim Yoo Jung, Jung Hye Jung, Jung Yoo Min and me) went to play there. Park Bo Gum, Jin Hyong Sunbaenim, Kwang Dong Hyun passed by and joined us. Sun Bae Nim Byung Joon Huan and and Sun Bae Nim Kim Soul was there before and we saw basketball; therefore, we all played together. 

It was really fun because there were no segregation of male-female or Sunbae-Hoobae in our basketball game. We played for victory relentlessly like saving our souls. We did everything to block the competitors. We thrown water like crazy to prevent competitors to get our scores.

When I tried to swim to our basketball hoop, Park Bo Gum did all the ways to block my way. It was really fun to play freely like that. 

Crown Prince as an enemy

- Working as a devil queen is very difficult when the enemy was acted by Park Bo Gum. Externally Park Bo Gum is very good looking and internally he is so nice, tender, and well-manner. I can't find his flaws. It is very difficult to act hating him. When I had to pay attention to express my hatred, I can't do easily.

Generally Park Bo Gum is lively and greet with cute style "Noona, Anyongaseyo", my imagined hatred had gone from looking him so I had to rebuild such hated emotion.

I too had the same problem. Is it normal to have withdrawal symptoms after watching a kdrama? I don't recall having any issue after finish watching any kdrama series previously. I tried watching the other moon but that moon must be from another planet cos I couldn't even last for 5 minutes. I got over my ex-bf way faster than this. Double sigh...

Since I am suffering from post-MDBC blues, I think I will just post some random stuff.

Ever wonder why Jahyeondang was haunted? In the novel, RO requests to be the one to assist CP in wearing the wedding ceremonial gown. (Thank goodness they didn't do that in the drama!) She is instructed how to put the gown on. Eunuch Jang is worried and tells her that one of the eunuch had to assist the king's father's father, who was then the crown prince, in wearing the ceremony gown. Because that eunuch was too nervous, he tied the belt too tightly and thus infuriated the then crown prince, That eunuch committed suicide in the pond at Jahyeondang.

I like how in the drama RO told Eunuch Jang that she couldn't cast out all the ghosts at that haunted place but had made friends with them instead, referring to BY and CP.

The whole 'I want to be with you the whole day' That should always be a warning to all couples that your other half is planning something. But our CP was so happy that even I couldn't bear for him to be sad if he found out early that she was leaving him.

Challenge accepted. You sense that they are not only talking about their current familial tensions but about Ra On as well.

The first kiss has a different quality to it. As I said in this scene Ra On and Lee Yeong aren't on the same level of knowledge. They both decide for completely different reasons to give in. Of course the reason which connects them are the feelings they have for eachother. But other than that: Lee Yeong knows a little more than Ra On in this scene, so it comes across a bit unfair. Hence why I'm glad she told him it's not okay of him to play with her heart. Making him realize that while he was glad their love actually had a chance to be long-term during the episode and he loved teasing her a bit, it actually hurt and worried her. So while I liked the kiss, mostly because I didn't see it coming so early, especially in a sageuk, it's actually not a kissing scene I rewatch a lot.

Then we got the goodbye kiss given from Ra On to Lee Yeong. The overall scene is one of my favourite YeongOn scenes despite the melancholy. But this kissing scene is kinda similar to the first kiss because now it's the other way around. While Lee Yeong is simply happy to have the woman he loves in his arms and even smiles when she kisses him lightly, Ra On knows this is her final goodbye before she leaves. So this kiss as well happens under

So the first kiss was sweet and the second kiss added a bit sadness to the sweetness I guess it all comes to the last scene and therefore the last kissing scene which I love the most.

Simply because we have Ra On and Lee Yeong fully committed in their relationship. Ra On living freely as a woman, doing what she loves. Yet she chose to be with Lee Yeong and Lee Yeong chose to be with her. And they're still lovey-dovey puppies after a year of being together after all the political obstacles were removed. And I actually adore the coloring of the scene during their kiss because it feels so ethereal and like a fairytale with the pastel colors. Also my OTP in a field of cosmos and in couple outfits... What else could be so perfect?

Thank you for reminding of 2 kisses before episode 18, both of them were discrepancy of fact finding behind the expressions between Crown Prince and RaOn. 

For acting criteria, all of 3 kissed have been done very amazing with complicated emotions, flowing expressions, affectionate gesture, eye contact.

1st: Crown Prince confessed with words and his sincere acts and RaOn implicitly confessed her feeling with appetency.

2nd: RaOn's desire to do everything as no more in life.

3nd: Both have expressed their feeling as usual.

I don't know if I could be accurate about what happened in 1800's Korea, but one simple solution could be having RaOn exit the palace as an eunuch (like he did with Eunuch Ma) and have her re-enter as a Court Lady or something, citing ye olde brother-sister trope. With his influence as regent, he could pretty much get away with this, provided RO kept quiet and no one dug too much into her back story.

After that, he could protect RO in his own way and possibly even marry her once he was king. Or take her as one of his wives at least.

Another solution could be to have her adopted by someone influential, and on the Prince's side. Master Dasan's has an extremely good network, and is highly trusted (he was the only one allowed to treat the poisoned Prince by the King). He could discover a family that would be willing to take in RaOn, thus giving her legitimacy. If she was well hidden and protected, she could even enter the Princess selection. Or maybe Yeong could plead a case for her to the King to grant him a wife he wished (just like TMETS where Prince Lee Hwon asks the King about marriage to Yeon Woo). 

This was all excluding of course, the fact that she was a traitors daughter, and not just any traitors, but the biggest one of them all.

When Teacher Dasan sent letter to inform Crown Prince that he got the solution, Teacher Dasan did not know the woman is RaOn. Therefore, Teacher did not think about the much larger scale of conflict as traitor's daughter and Crown Prince.

According to conversation between Teacher Dasan and Crown Prince, Crown Prince requested Teacher to find the solution to let him not lose his lover. (before knowing she is RaOn)

Another request after Teacher Dasan knew she was RaOn is finding home and parents.

For Post Drama Interviews and the response from medias/people, audiences can realize that the lead roles can create much more opportunities to themselves which people in showbiz dreams on and also to casts&crews. 

However, the responsibility and pressure would be unbelievable heavy on their shoulder. They have experienced depress and distress. 

From Kim Yoo Jung's interview, even she has acted in Sagueks but for the female lead(adult), this was her first time that she must create blossom lady who has chemistry with lead actor to audiences. Turning from child actress which has had little girl image in audiences' could be her obstacles. (as in Secret Door) 

For Park Bo Gum, this is his first time in Saguek and also the male lead (even in Reply 1988, he was the chosen husband but he shared with several key roles), tasks looked very difficult indeed.

Luckily, their closed relationship as brother-sister and inseparably integrated colleagues, as well as casts and crews, can create miracle to make Moonlight Drawn By Clouds be the successful young & fusion Saguek finally.

A lot has changed. The phrase ‘Bogum Magic’ blossomed, more and more people recognize him. But even so Park Bo Gum, is still Park Bo Gum.

These days, is there any other star who is ‘hotter’ than Park Bo Gum? While conducting Park Bo Gum’s interview after the finale of ‘Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’ in a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, many of his fans crowded around. Even so, when we met Park Bo Gum, he still greeted us brightly and repeatedly said ‘thank you’ throughout the interview.

And he was serious. The real side of Park Bo Gum who has appeared on various variety programs, is one that is nice and upright. With regards to that image, some may question whether this ‘kind frame’ is merely an act. Park Bo Gum answered, “Even if there is such a frame, there is nothing bad about it”.

In January this year, Park Bo Gum acted in tvN ‘Reply 1988’ (hereinafter called R8) as Baduk player Choi Taek and became popular. This major project was what made his name spread around extensively. Just like when the rest of the ‘Reply’ series ended, there were expectations for Park Bo Gum’s next project. It is true that many had thoughts of ‘let’s see how he acts in the next one’.

“I was the first to be confirmed amongst the casting for ‘Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’. When I first saw the script, I had thoughts of doing it well. But Yoo Jung, Jin Young and many other seniors were cast after that, so I was worried whether I could shoot well alongside so many outstanding seniors. I felt a sense of responsibility, and my shoulder felt heavy. My family, company said to me ‘You are not the only person leading the team, but rather every single person has to work together and cooperate. Do not feel burdened by having to do something’.”

“On the eve of the first broadcast of ‘R8’, Director Shin Won Ho said to me ‘This project may work out (be successful), but it may also not work out, so do not be too upset about it. Everyone is a main character. Do not feel too burdened.’ Thinking of this, rather than thinking ‘I am not responsible’, since all the people are working hard together, I think I should do the best that I can.”

Before the broadcast of ‘Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’, a video of Park Bo Gum dancing to Boombastic was released. He wore his Crown Prince robes and danced innocently. He perfectly transformed into a ‘joyful rich person’ and added the finishing touch for the drama’s publicity.

“It required a lot of practice. I practiced at home in front of a mirror. I became even bolder and confident as a result. I have the confidence that even when I stand on stage to dance, it will turn out well. (Laughs)”

In the beginning of the show, Crown Prince Lee Yeong was shown to be reckless and mean. But as it progresses, his inner maturity unfolds. Is there any similarity between Lee Yeong who is like that and Park Bo Gum?

“I think we are similar in being ‘outwardly soft and inwardly hard’. The character Lee Yeong is soft on the outside, in the drama he appears to be weak, but he is strong and hard on the inside. I also look like this on the outside but I have strong manliness on the inside….”

As Park Bo Gum speaks of his ‘manliness’, he clenched his fists tightly.

“But I am not so mean, nor am I a punk/ruffian.”

Park Bo Gum often showed tears in ‘Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’. On the other hand, there are also scenes where he is not supposed to tear up and yet unknowingly did so. When Park Bo Gum was asked whether there was such a scene, he seemed to panic. “I marked that down…. Can you let me check it?” He had already prepared for the interview but suddenly forgot. He hurriedly sent an SOS to his company staff.

“Oh, its Episode 8. In Episode 8, after being appointed as regent, the scene where Eunuch Jang (Lee Jun Hyeok) helps me to wear my clothes and said ‘No matter what work there is, you will do well’. I can feel that Eunuch Jang really loved and cherished me. And in the last episode when I put on the King’s robes. At that time, Eunuch Jang had the line ‘All rise for His Majesty’. Hearing that made me think of the difficulties in shaping Lee Yeong’s character, and the adversity he has had to suffer. Senior Lee Jun Hyeok also felt sad looking at me. At that time, every step felt heavy while walking. It really felt like it was the last episode.”

The scene where he cried the most was when he went to meet Suk-ui (Jeon Mi Seon). Suk-ui’s line ‘What if I am not recovering because I want to see you every day’ struck a chord in him. At that time (only a close-up of Suk-ui was required), Park Bo Gum’s face did not appear on camera, but Jeon Mi Seon’s tears and the emotions conveyed in her lines made his tears pour down as well.

‘Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’ comprise of leads Park Bo Gum, B1A4 Jin Young, Kwak Dong Yeon, etc. Because they are all similar in age, they can communicate well and the filming set will be very lively.

“(Kim) Yoo Jung is a friend who knows a lot about sageuks, she is also my senior in terms of acting experience. Actually in the beginning, it was awkward. She did not call me Oppa but rather called me ‘Park Bo Gum-nim’, she did that.”

The name ‘Park Bo Gum-nim’ incited laughter from the journalists, but Park Bo Gum was serious. He continued to talk seriously about Jin Young.

“Because I wanted to write lyrics and compose well, so I asked him directly for help on set. One should say that Jin Young hyung is really talented…. Even though he is not known for playing musical instruments, but he is really good at composing, so I think he is an excellent singer and actor. If there is an opportunity for me in future, I also want to compose my own song and show it to everyone as a gift”.

‘Byung Yeon’ was a widely discussed topic. The bromance between Kim Byung Yeon (Kwak Dong Yeon) and Lee Yeong also received a lot of support alongside his romance with Hong Ra On (Kim Yoo Jung). Park Bo Gum cited actor Kwak Dong Yeon as the person he wanted a bromance with.

“I want to meet Dong Yeon again. In ‘Moonlight’ there are originally many more scenes where I have a friendship repertoire with Byung Yeon, but due to time constraints, they were in a hurry so…. At the location of the trial, when Byung Yeon drops his sword and gets hit, ‘If I had just one person in this world that I could trust, it would still be you’ after saying this I felt very sad. I felt Dong Yeon’s expression in his eyes and energy well. When we next meet, I hope we are equals and have a relationship as precious friends.”

‘Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’ had the best ratings of 23.3% and concluded being the Monday-Tuesday drama in 1st place. Due to it being highly popular, expectations are high for the year-end Drama Awards. Some say that Park Bo Gum may even be in running for the Daesang. But Park Bo Gum gestured (no) with his hands.

“It is not (at the stage for) the Daesang yet. Two years ago, I attended the awards ceremony for the first time. If I attend the awards ceremony this year, I will be able to meet the ‘Moonlight’ family after a long while and so I will feel happy, it would be good to finish the year with warm feelings. I still don’t have any greed/ambition to win an award. Even if I don’t win an award, I will still attend the awards ceremony.”

“I want to become an actor whom staff want to work with together again. The ‘Moonlight’ filming site was warm and happy. Everyone treated me warmly and took care of me, that I wondered whether it was good to receive so much attention. It has always been my dream to become an actor who has a positive influence on other people.”

Park Bo Gum also said that he has been reading comments on his fan cafe during his spare time and tries his best to communicate with fans. He didn’t have a lot of time while shooting ‘Moonlight’, but while taking a rest till the end of the year he hinted at plans to meet with fans. A fan meeting venue is in the process of being coordinated.

From ‘R8’ to his fan meetings, 24 year old Park Bo Gum has had a more fulfilling year than anyone. What will he be like when he is 25? Let us imagine his growth when we next meet him.

The main character is actor Park Bo Gum (23). It would not be an exaggeration to say that 2016 is Park Bo Gum’s year. In the first half of the year, he acted in tvN drama ‘Reply 1988’ as quiet, mysterious Baduk player Choi Taek and received much love from viewers. In the second half of the year through the KBS drama ‘Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’, he successfully transformed into Crown Prince Lee Yeong and caused the ‘Park Bo Gum syndrome’.

In ‘Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’, the Crown Prince of the nation Lee Yeong and a male-disguised eunuch Hong Ra On who enters the palace, fall in love and an unpredictable palace romance is painted out.

The first broadcast of ‘Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’ recorded viewership ratings of 8.3% and was the lowest among the 3 free-to-air Monday-Tuesday dramas. People voiced their concern that ‘Park Bo Gum was also unable to break the Reply curse’. But with steady growth and solid acting skills, he earned the nickname ‘ending fairy’ and the last episode recorded ratings of 22.9%, Yoo Jung’s beauty also played a part in the job well done.

Q. Drama ‘Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’ was the first sageuk you challenged. Did you feel pressured?

I really wanted to try a sageuk so because of that I did not feel there was a burden initially. If not for this sageuk I would not have the chance to try on beautiful hanboks, so I thought I had a really happy and fun time shooting ‘Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’. However, the Crown Prince Lee Yeong was difficult to understand and express as a character. ‘Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’ comprises of many seniors, Yoo Jung, Jin Young hyung, Dong Yeon, Soo Bin and the staff, like an Avengers team with many good people working together. However, the burden also increased and my shoulders felt heavy. Actually, at the script reading I was not fully aware of the character Lee Yeong. The director and writer had confidence in me understanding Yeong’s mind as time passes. So during the casting shoot, I was uncertain about ‘How can I digest the role of Lee Yeong well’ and ‘I wonder if I am doing well’.

Q. While shooting, which scene did you feel was the most difficult?

In the side chamber/palace hall, the scenes opposite the ministers and officials. It was a rare opportunity to use lines related to politics, so there were a lot of terms and words which I was not familiar with. But because the seniors’ acting far exceeded what was described in the script, so my emotions were drawn out/expressed well and we were able to complete filming successfully.

Q. Crown Prince Lee Yeong’s romance, politics, etc. There are many different aspects to be shown by one person. Depending on the situation, it must not be easy to express a change in emotions.

Firstly, thank you for finding out. In the beginning, it took a lot of effort for me to better represent the flow of emotions. I studied the script intensively in order to portray emotions that fit the situation. If there was any part I missed out on, the director helped me to imagine, understand and express them better.

Q. In the scene where Crown Prince Lee Yeong grabs the knife clenched in Hong Ra On’s hand and cut off the bracelet, many viewers shed tears. What kind of feelings did you have at that time?

I was thinking that ‘now is really the end (with Ra On)’. Looking at Ra On trying to push me away, it hurt my heart and I felt regretful.

Q. While doing this project, you felt that you were lacking a lot. What points were unsatisfactory for you?

The sageuk has a good foundation, I wanted Lee Yeong to act as a supplement. I wish I had more time to be worried about being a good actor in charge. Viewers may not have realized this, but when I saw some parts I felt disappointed at not being able to better express my emotions richly and robustly.

Q. In a recent interview with the media, Kim Yoo Jung mentioned that if she could work with you in another project, she hopes that she will be in the upper class, and Park Bo Gum could be a corner store boy (son of corner store owner).

(Laughs) If there is such a witty and lively project, I want to try it no matter what. I hope that I have the chance to work with the Moonlight Drawn by Clouds actors again.

Q. After playing Lee Yeong for such a long time, it must not be easy to get out of character.

I think I have gotten out of the character Lee Yeong. But because of Lee Yeong I learnt a lot while acting, so I will cherish it in my heart for a long long time and not forget it.

Q. You reportedly learnt to play the geomungo for the drama. But it did not appear in the actual broadcast.

The writers were also very disappointed. Originally there was a scene where I could play the geomungo, but in the end there wasn’t enough time so the situation didn’t allow for it. Many people would feel regretful about missing that part. Nevertheless, in the title sequence it was showed albeit slightly, so I still feel quite happy. Before the start of the drama, I learnt many things. Afterwards they become part of my talent, so I feel really grateful.

Q. How are your geomungo playing skills.

I can play ‘Butterfly’, ‘Plane’ and ‘Arirang’ (laughs). I practiced the most for ‘Butterfly’ and ‘Airplane’, unfortunately I have no opportunities to show everyone so far, but it was good to have the opportunity to learn South Korean traditional instruments.

Q. The adlib gukbap rascal (rice soup rascal) received a good response from viewers. Were there any other fun adlibs?

When lifting Sam Nom, the line ‘Stretch out your arm’ was also an adlib. Surprisingly, Yoo Jung responds with her own adlib ‘You have to lift me up higher’ so I thought ‘she’s not called an acting senior in vain’.

Q. You appeared wearing a variety of outfits, such as cheollik, gonryongpo (dragon robe) and gatdopo. Which costume is the most memorable?

Everything was good. Actually it is a rare opportunity to be able to wear such beautiful hanboks through the drama, it feels like shooting a pictorial. I am thankful to the director for his directing and designer for creating such beautiful hanboks. For me I love all the costumes without any exception.

Q. The teaser ‘Boombastic’ became a widely discussed topic. Did you know about it?

I knew. For the first teaser video, I watched senior Kang Dong Won in ‘A Violent Prosecutor’ for inspiration. I practised a lot at home watching the video (laughs). I felt a little shy about dancing at the National Palace of Korea wearing the Crown Prince robes. I am thankful that many people have showed a lot of interest in the Boombastic video.

Q. KBS has plans to adapt ‘Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’ into a musical. Don’t you want to try challenging the role of Crown Prince Lee Yeong in a musical?

I have thought about challenging this. Initially, I wanted to give it a try. Now I just want to be remembered by people as Lee Yeong from the drama.

Q. All this while, you have had a busy shooting schedule. Did you take a break after the finale?

I went on an incentive trip to Cebu, Philippines. Actually, the only places where I can fully rest are above the sea and in the sea (laughs). In fact I haven’t done any activities in Cebu, Philippines before but I found it amazing when the locals recognized me. It turns out that ‘Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’ aired through the channel KBS World and many people also watch Music Bank.

Q. Your fans’ age group has widened from 10 to 40 years old. Do you recognize how popular you are?

I think it is really amazing and I am thankful that the fans who love me have such diverse ages. Sometimes I half-jokingly and half-seriously tell them to put their families first over me. Actors are able to work happily thanks to everyone’s support, it provides a driving force for them. It is thanks to the support and love from the fans, that I am able to work happily.

Q. Usually your image is one that is kind and upright. Have you ever gotten angry with other people?

I have. I have been (angry before). But I don’t really remember when (laughs). It is not easy for me to get stressed out.

Q. Was there anything rebellious that you did recently?

During the incentive trip to Cebu, Dong Yeon and I went to eat local food without telling our guide, it was the most rebellious thing I did. Since we traveled so far, it would be disappointing to eat only Korean food so we went to try local food nearby and it was memorable to try eating liver.

Q. Because of your kind image, you have nicknames like Eat Bo Gum, Joyful Bo Gum, Thankful Bot, Bo Gum Ministry, Bogum Magic, etc. Which is your favourite amongst these?

I like them all. I like eating and I think I am always in high spirits, so they all seem to fit me well. Especially Bogum Magic because it means that someone was touched because of me and changed, I think it feels good. I am thankful to Defconn hyung who made this beautiful neology.

Q. Surely you will sometimes feel frustrated or burdened by this image.

I have always lived this way for 24 years, and I have no complaints or stress about doing so in future.

Q. When you work, you may face hard/difficult times. How do you overcome them?

I call my family a lot. When I feel very hot or very tired, I will call my father and he will say ‘This is what you wanted to do. Since you wanted it so much, shouldn’t you do it happily and with thankful feelings’. After that, I would think ‘Yes, I’m blessed. I accomplished my dream’ and this makes me happy.

Q. When you are 24 years old, it is the time to dream about love. Do you want to date?

I want to. Actually, it feels like I dated the character Ra On in the drama. Just looking at the script itself, there are many scenes which make my heart flutter. On set, what I see is not the script, but I listen to her real voice, see her expressions and look at her eyes, so the character Ra On made my heart flutter. I unknowingly reached out to touch her face and liked her.

Q. What are your plans in the future?

After all of the interviews have finished, I am expected to leave next week for a pictorial shooting overseas. Also if I have the time, I want to meet both domestic and international fans. I have not decided on my next project so far.

Q. Finally, what sort of actor would Park Bo Gum like to become in the future?

I would like to hear words like ‘I want to work with the actor Park Bo Gum again in future’ from the staff whom I have worked with before. I want to meet the staff who took good care of me. I want to become an actor whom people want to work with again.

[Interview] Park Bo Gum “Worried about romance with a traitor’s daughter, heart fluttered calling ‘Ra On-ah'” OCTOBER 26, 2016   
Park Bo Gum’s view on love also reveals his kindness.

On the 26th, in a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, during the interview after the ending of KBS2 ‘Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’, Park Bo Gum confessed that he was “worried about how a love with a traitor’s daughter would turn out”.

In ‘Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’, Park Bo Gum plays the role of Crown Prince Lee Yeong, wandering around the palace in an unruly manner and eventually growing into a charismatic monarch. His romance with male eunuch Hong Ra On played by Kim Yoo Jung in particular captured the hearts of viewers.

Hong Ra On and Lee Yeong, the daughter of a traitor and the Crown Prince became entangled with each other, even being termed as Joseon’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’. When Park Bo Gum was asked “What are you going to do if you fell in love with a traitor’s daughter,” he answered in a serious manner, “I actually worried about this setting a lot”, arousing laughter.

Park Bo Gum continued, “The result of worrying is that if both of us really loved each other, any difficulties can be endured” and said “I will continue to love her”.

When asked about his romance with Kim Yoo Jung, he said “the script is concentrated on scenarios which are sweet” and “after knowing that Sam Nom’s name is Ra On and the scene where Yeong says ‘Ra On-ah’ after every question, personally it made my heart flutter”.

He added, “Yoo Jung has always been lovely and cute so I was able to film happily” and “Yoo Jung will guide me on what I miss and give me advice, even in that moment (while filming) Yoo Jung is Ra On and I am Lee Yeong, we liked each other and were filled with love for each other”.

Meanwhile ‘Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’ recorded the highest rating of 23% and recently finished airing on the 18th.

[Interview] Park Bo Gum “‘Moonlight’? A project that made me feel I was lacking, I have regrets” OCTOBER 26, 2016    

On the 26th, at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, a KBS 2TV ‘Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’ related round interview was conducted. When Park Bo Gum was asked about his thoughts on the finale, he replied “I felt that I was lacking (in many areas)”.

He elaborated “This is the first time I am challenging a sageuk, there are many actor seniors whom I look up to in the same team, and compared to them, I felt that I was lacking in many areas”. “The tone and intonation used (in the drama) is also not what we use nowadays, so I try to get used to them and make the tone sound like my own. As the drama is broadcast, the more I felt I was lacking. I have a little regret,” he said.

Also, Park Bo Gum expressed his thoughts on being different from the original novel character, “If I portrayed my character to be as cool, arrogant and domineering as in the novel, it would feel as if the role is unrealistic. After discussing with the director, in the beginning of the drama I would show everyone the appearance of a prince who was unreliable, and after being appointed as regent, he became serious and responsible, and it would be better if I can portray him to be sharp when necessary”, he explained.

He also shared his difficulties in playing Yeong, “In the beginning, that kind of acting (letting loose) made me feel awkward. I made an effort to dig up another side of myself I didn’t know of, every scene has many lines, through this drama and also the director I can also grasp and digest the lines better. I know a little more on how to showcase different faces/appearances for everyone to see,” he said.

Meanwhile, Park Bo Gum acted as Lee Yeong in ‘Moonlight Drawn by Clouds’, which received a lot of love with over 20% viewership ratings and finished airing on the 18th.
