Can Seo Kang Joon's Success Trigger a Trend of Actor Groups?

Recommended Posts

Actor Seo Kang Joon has been widely recognized as one of this year's hottest newcomers, and his breakthrough role as the ideal guy with a crush on Lee Min Jung on MBC's "Cunning Single Lady" secured his status as a super rookie.

"Cunning Single Lady" gained attention for being the first romantic comedy of actor Joo Sang Wook and for marking the return of Lee Min Jung after she tied the knot with Lee Byung Hun. While the two top stars entertained the viewers with their realistic acting, Seo Kang Joon stole the spotlight with his impressively strong performance. Episode after episode, the actor stepped up his game by showcasing the charming qualities of a younger man trying to steal the heart of an older woman.

While Seo Kang Joon has appeared on a few smaller dramas in the past, they did not pave him the way to stardom. Now, however, he is loved by people of all ages thanks to his role on "Cunning Single Lady."

What makes the young actor even more interesting is his status as the member of Korea's first actor group 5uprise. Launched in last September, the five-member group is managed by talent agency Fantagio.

Actor groups are currently a rare sight in the industry, but they can be expected to become more popular in the future. The concept is similar to that of idol groups, and the members of an actor group have the skills to pursue various activities including singing, dance, and variety shows.

Not even a year has passed since the group's debut, and Seo Kang Joon is already putting them under the spotlight. Members Gong Myung, Yoo Il, Kang Tae Oh, and Lee Tae Hwan are all pursuing their own activities, and even though none of them has made a similar impact on the industry as Seo Kang Joon, the expectations are rising for their future performance.

As Seo Kang Joon continues to make waves in the industry, many have reevaluated the potential of actor groups. When Fantagio first announced the debut of their actor group, the response was rather cold, but that attitude is changing fast. Maybe we will see more actor groups debuting in the future, inspired by the success of Seo Kang Joon and his group 5urprise.
