Episode 162

Yeon Hee woke up after Chi Soo called her name several times. Chi Soo asked what was going on as Yeon Hee told him to help her get up. Chi Soo asked how long had she been this way as the last time he saw her she looked fine. Yeon Hee said it was indeed really sudden. Chi Soo said why this had to happen since she had so adamant in leaving him. Yeon Hee agreed it was so true. Chi Soo said they will find another hospital but Yeon Hee refused as it was no use as it was already too late. Chi Soo shouted at Yeon Hee not to say such foolish words. Chi Soo told Yeon Hee that she should had come to him when she was ill. Chi Soo asked how could she made him hear of her dying from Jung Soo Bok. Chi Soo said everyone knew about it except him. Chi Soo maintained that he was still Yeon Hee's husband and why she never told him anything. Yeon Hee said she could not say the words. Yeon hee said she could tell everyone but she was cautious with Chi Soo. Yeon Hee said she knew how much Chi Soo and loved and cherished her but she still divorced him. Yeon Hee apologised for abandoning him.

Chi Soo hugged Yeon Hee and told her that they will go together. Yeon hee said he still needed to live on as Chi SOo said he did not have the courage to live. Chi Soo told Yeon Hee to take him with her. Yeon Hee reminded him there was Jae In to look after as well as he needed to protect Se Woon Dang with Madam and Jin Kyung. Yeon Hee told him to protect their son. Chi SOo told Yeon hee to stop talking as he wailed loudly in anguish.

Soon Geum cried on hearing them outside as she turned into Woo Chang's arms for comfort. Jung Soo Bok still sat at the drink store in his own thoughts.

Chi Soo went back to Se Woon Dang only in the morning and with his grave expression Madam and Jin Kyung guessed he had learned of the truth while Jae In questioned his father why he stayed out last night.

In his study, Chi Soo recalled all the moments he was most cruel to Yeon Hee and what caused Yeon Hee to be most disappointed with him. Chi Soo called regarding the agreement and said he will meet with Jung Soo on the matter.

Madam was in the kitchen to make soup for Yeon Hee. Yeon Hee was touched by the gesture and said she must be great to receive such treatment. Soon Geum informed Jin Kyung that Jin Woo will stopped his art lessons as Soon Geum advised Jin Kyung what will interested Jin Woo. Jin Kyung took Jin Woo and Duk Goo's sister out to catch butterflies.

Jung Soo cleaned up the mess in the pharmacy as he recalled what happened last night. Aunt called him into the house. Jung Soo saw a long line of family members and neighbours sniggering and teasing Jung Soo regarding last night's events. Duk Goo's wife started her teased but was told off my Nosy Mother-in-law her lacking to bear a child. Duk Goo's wife walked out with sadness. Young Soo chased her and told her to check herself for pregnancy but Duk Goo;s wife insisted she was cannot. Duk Goo's wife said she hated to go to O&G but Young Soo offered to go with her.

Jung Soo still got teased about the night before. However, the uncle from Soon Geum's store mentioned that Jung Soo Bok spent a night at Yeon Hee. Jung Soo went to see Yeon Hee and was shocked to see a very pale looking Yeon Hee. Jung Soo recalled Woo Chang asking him about leukemia. Jung Soo collapsed to the ground and asked how did Yeon Hee gotten so pale. Soon Geum said Yeon Hee did not have nay make-up on. Woo Chang said they were not able to tell the family about it.

Soon Geum got a call that Chi Soo wanted to see Woo Chang and Jung Soo. Chi Soo showed them the agreement where Jung Soo's name was omitted. Chi Soo admitted that he was threatened by Baek and therefore he was unable to do anything. Jung Soo shouted that they denied him of his hard work. Woo Chang asked why did Chi Soo bothered to tell him about it. Chi Soo said it may too late as he gave Jung Soo a document. Chi Soo also informed them that he will released the secret ledgers to Prosecutor Seo and that Dok Sa got his sentence hence Jung Soo Bok will be declared innocent. Chi Soo thanked them for taking care of Yeon Hee all this while.

Soon Geum told Jae In of their mother's condition. Jae In said there must be a way to cure it but Soon Geum said it was too late. Jae In cannot believe it. Yeon He quickly made her way to the dressing table as she tried to put on some make-up to look better. Jae In walked in and asked that it was not true. Yeon Hee told Jae In that she was very proud of him and he was great. Jae In asked why was she saying such things. Yeon Hee said that Jae In and grew up really well. Jae In could not bear it any longer walked out of the room. Soon Geum tried to stop him but Jae In shook her hands away. Yeon Hee told herself that she needed some time.

Duk Goo's wife was delighted that she was finally pregnant. Duk Goo's wife told him the good news much to his delight as he shouted out his happiness.

Jung Soo told the family about Yeon Hee's condition. Duk Goo wanted to tell his parents but they were sadden by Yeon Hee's terminal illness.

Jung Soo spoke of Soon Geum's past to Hyo Joo. Hyo Joo said even mother and daughter did not spent the time together but their bond was strong. Jung Soo and Hyo Joo spoke of their dead parents as they consoled each other. Hyo Joo asked how could Soon Geum bear it sending off her mother in that manner.

Soon Geum was cutting Yeon Hee's nails and she commented their hands looked alike. Woo Chang and Jung Soo Bok walked into the room as they returned from Seoul. Woo Chang said Dok Sa received his sentence while Jung Soo Bok regained his innocence. Jung Soo Bok told Soon Geum and Woo Chang that it was due to their hard work. Woo Chang told Yeon Hee that Chi Soo had given out strong evidence in the case. Woo Chang said it would seemed that Chi Soo wanted to show Yeon Hee his sincerity. Yeon Hee said today was a good day and congratulated Jung Soo Bok. Woo Chang apologised that because of him that Jung Soo Bok had suffered.

Yeon Hee told them that she liked to go out for a walk. All four of them took a walk to the ginseng farm. Soon Geum asked Yeon Hee whether she was tired but Yeon Hee said she was not as she said she was thinking of the past. Soon Geum placed her mother on a swing while Woo Chang and Jung Soo Bok moved away to allow the women some privacy.

Soon Geum started to cry as Yeon Hee asked why was she crying. Soon Geum said she will try not to. Yeon Hee said the two of them spent more time apart than together. Yeon Hee said that Soon Geum had thought a lot of her. Yeon Hee told Soon Geum if she missed her to come to the ginseng farm and there Soon Geum will be able to find her. Yeon Hee said even though they were apart all those years but Soon Geum was always her daughter. Yeon Hee asked that Soon Geum must know that and Soon Geum said she did. Yeon Hee said that she had loved Soon Geum the moment she was expecting her. Soon Geum said she knew. Yeon Hee said it will be the same in the future even though Soon Geum cannot see her, the fact remained that Yeon Hee was her mother and that she loved her.

Yeon Hee said she wished to see the ginseng flower and Soon Geum said she will looked for it. Yeon Hee grew weaker. Soon Geum looked at the ginseng flower as she recalled her childhood and the past. Soon Geum brought the flower to Yeon Hee as she smiled at it. Yeon Hee then slipped into unconsciousness. Soon Geum called out to her mother while the men came over and rushed her to the hospital.

At the hospital, Soon Geum, Woo Chang and Jung Soo Bok with In Ok and Jin Kyung were at her bedside. Jung Soo came in later. Soon Geum held her mother's hand. Madam was crying bitterly at Se Woon Dang while Chi Soo was at his study looking really solemn. Jae in rushed to the hospital and called out to Yeon Hee. Yeon Hee regained consciousness to see Jae In as she placed Soon Geum and Jae In hands together with her hers. With that, Yeon Hee passed away. Soon Geum wailed bitterly while the rest cried quietly.

Episode 163 (END)

Jung Soo Bok looked out at the river when Jin Woo called him asking where were his parents. Jung Soo Bok told him that they had gone to Yeon Hee's grave.

Soon Geum did a small ritual for Yeon Hee as per her request while Jae In looked solemn as Woo Chang whether he was upset that it was not a grand funeral.

Jae In came home as Madam told him to stop Chi Soo on what he was about to do. Chi Soo told Jae In to sit down. Chi Soo announced to his family that the land and money was not his to start with. Chi Soo said that Jae In was good in his studies and will be able to stand on his own while Jin Kyung had her own money to support herself. Jae In said not to worry about him as he knew how to take care of himself. Chi Soo thanked him for saying that. Chi Soo also said that he will resigned as the assemblyman as he might be facing charges. Madam said after all she had kept her silence but Chi Soo said he was his decision. Chi Soo told his family they may faced some embarrassment due to his scandal. Madam told Chi Soo he should have kept his silence but Chi Soo said it was a burden to him and therefore appealed for their understanding. Jin Kyung asked whether Chi Soo had made some promise and Chi Soo said he did. Madam asked what was he going to do from now on as Chi Soo said he will want to carry on living

Jin Kyung hugged Madam and told her that she will bear with it till she returned from her surgery. Madam said she will.

Soon Geum and Woo Chang returned home as Aunt and In Ok told her to go in and rest. Soon Geum said she will changed and go to her store for a while. Jung Soo told Woo Chang they were going to see Chi Soo.

Chi Soo told them the agreement was done and asked what were they going to do with their ginseng research. Jung Soo said they will do with whatever resources they have. Chi Soo asked whether they will accept his money to further the studies on ginseng. Chi Soo passed them a document as the two men was surprised at the amount. Jung Soo was surprised as Chi Soo had supported the agreement. Chi Soo said he cannot do any business for the moment as he will be facing charges soon. Woo Chang said he never had thought why Chi Soo would made such a decision. Chi Soos aid he should have done it a long time ago but he was seduced by power and greed. Jung Soo said he cannot accept it as he will find another solution. Chi Soo told him to make the best of out it will be the correct way. Chi Soo wandered whether he could be out perhaps in 10 years. Chi Soo said he should make his way to the prosecutor office. As Chi Soo left in his car, both Jung Soo and Woo Chang gave him a deep bow. Two of his staff came out asking what was going on.

Jung Soo Bok said that Chi Soo had made a great decision. Soon Geum said that Se Woon Dang will be really quiet now. Jung Soo Bok asked when was Jin Kyung leaving for the US . Soon Geum told him it was tomorrow.

The neighbourhood read about Chi Soo's facing charges from the newspapers. The old one was worried about his livelihood while the younger staff praised Chi Soo for his integrity.

In Ok told the family she will be accompanied Jin Kyung to the Us for her surgery. Duk Goo's wife was having morning sickness around the food as Nosy Mother-in-law told Duk Goo's wife for embarrassing her. Duk Goo tried to tell his mother off but his wife told him not to kick up a fuss. Duk Goo's comforted his wife that once the things settled he will tell the family. Duk Goo and his wife tried to have a lovey dovey moment only to be disrupted by Duk Goo's sister who came in to say she was hungry. Duk Goo's wife told her to go over to Aunt's as they had plenty of food.

Nosy Mother-in-law and Aunt sat down for a meal saying that Jin Kyung was really leaving them all. Aunt asked her whether it would seemed Jin Kyung was abandoning her child. Nosy Mother-in-law was shocked that Aunt knew the truth. Aunt asked was there something she did not know. Nosy Mother-n-law said how could she say that Jin Kyung was Jin Woo's mother. Duk Goo's sister was standing at the door overhearing them.

Duk Goo's sister straight away told Jin Woo about hearing the adults said that Soon Geum was not his mother but Jin Kyung was. Duk Goo and his wife overheard them and came in denying it was not true as Jin Woo started to cry. Duk Goo and his wife quickly went for help. Duk Goo's wife was running off to Se Woon Dang but Duk Goo decided to hail a cab for his wife instead and told her to be careful.

Duk Goo rushed off to tell Soon Geum that Jin Woo had learned the truth. Duk Goo's wife told Jin Kyung as Jin Kyung asked what was Jin Woo's reaction and Duk Goo's wife said Jin Woo kept crying.

Aunt called out to Jin Woo to open the door while Soon Geum, Woo Chang and Jung Soo rushed in. Soon Geum asked Jin Woo to opened the door as Aunt called out to him that his mother was back. Woo Chang who was it that spoke such nonsense to frighten the child. Aunt said she did not realised that Duk Doo's sister had overheard them. Soon Geum told Jin Woo to open the door while Young Soo rushed in with some tools to open the door. Woo Chang told Jin Woo not to be childish and open the door.

Jin Kyung came in and asked where was Jin Woo. Jin Woo opened the door as Jin Kyung told Soon Geum to go in together. Jin Woo sat in a corner as Jin Kyung sat in front of him asking that he did not pay his respect to her as his elder. Jin Kyung asked what had he heard from Duk Goo's sister. Jin Woo said that Jin Kyung was his mother. Jin Kyung asked then who was Soon Geum. Jin Woo also answered she was his mother. Jin Kyung then related the tale the adults had made up regarding Duk Goo's sister's birth. Jin Woo said that it was not true and Jin Kyung said she was not his mother. Jin Woo said that the adults had made a joke as Jin Woo asked Soon Geum to re confirm it that Soon Geum was his mother. Soon Geum nodded her answer.

Jin Kyung asked how could Jin Woo just forget about his mother. Jin Woo said that he knew because his father was thought to have died in Vietnam before and Soon Geum had raised him all by herself. Jin Kyung asked whether there was such a thing as a fake mother because it was true that Soon Geum was his mother. Jin Woo agreed with her as he rushed into Soon Geum's arms. Jin Woo said his mother was Jung Soon Geum and cried loudly. Jin Woo went out and called Woo Chang as Woo Chang gave Jin Woo a hug to comfort him.

Soon Geum and Jin Kyung had a talk as Jin Kyung said she had done well and Soon Geum thanked her. Jin Kyung told Soon Geum to take care of her son till he reach of age. Jin Kyung hoped for the best with the surgery. Soon Geum asked was she scared of it and Jin Kyung said she was but she will take courage. Soon Geum told Jin Kyung that she was indeed great and Jin Kyung said it was strange to hear Soon Geum complimented her. Soon Geum related the care that went into grow ginseng just like all of them. Jin Kyung said Soon Geum was right. Soon Geum said everything was in placed now and everything will hold their own position. Jin Kyung told Soon Geum that she was so like Yeon Hee and told Soon Geum that she will look into her family while she was away. Soon Geum said she would as Yeon Hee had asked her to do the same.

Soon Geum and Jin Kyung came out with Woo Chang and Jung Soo. Duk Goo and his wife wanted to treat everyone to coffee as he wanted to make an announcement of his wife pregnancy but Nosy Mother-in-law interrupted asking whether it was Jin Kyung's farewell and Duk Goo was reminded that it was tomorrow. Duk Goo's wife said it was something they should do for Jin Kyung. Young Soo rushed out that they should also celebrate Jung Soo ending his bachelorhood. Duk Goo agreed it was something to celebrate as Barber Neighbour said to make it a double celebration. Duk Goo's wife started to cry as everything superseded her news. Nosy Mother-in-law scolded Duk Goo's wife what was wrong with her these days as Duk Goo tried to tell his parents while Young Soo asked that Duk Goo's wife being pregnant had not be informed. All who were listening in was surprised. Nosy Mother-in-law and Barber Neighbour was so delighted as they rushed in to see Duk Goo's wife. Aunt said that it called for a celebrations for everything.

Young Soo showed a cream puff and spoke how to make an event for Jung Soo and Duk Goo to give a ring to their loved one by stuffing the ring into the cream puff as a surprise for the women. Barber Neighbour wanted to join in as he knew Nosy Mother-in-law wanted one too.

They started the celebration with singing. After the song, Young Soo announced for the men to present the cream puff. Nosy Mother-in-law ate the cream puff without discovering the ring while the two younger women discovered their rings. Barber Neighbour asked where was the ring and Nosy Mother-in-law said it was just the cream puff. Barber Neighbour was shocked as he dragged Nosy Mother-in-law home. Barber Neighbour laid out a newspaper for Mother-in-law to pass motion into it to bring out the ring. The rest of the group started to dance.

Aunt was happy with the celebration. Jung Soo Bok and In Ok had a talk as Jung Soo Bok hoped that In Ok to take care of herself and In Ok told Jung Soo Bok to take of his health. In Ok thanked him for everything.

Hyo Joo was happy with the ring. Hyo Joo said that she almost ate it up and Jung Soo wandered he was wrong with the idea. Hyo Joo said he was not and she will treasured the memory. Jung Soo asked how was she going to returned the favour and Hyo Joo asked whether she should do it here on the street. Jung Soo pulled her to one corner.

Woo Chang and Jin Kyung was walking behind them as they laughed at Jung Soo's action. Jin Kyung said that Jung Soo was realy in love and asked what should she do if she missed Jung Soo. Woo Chang told her to come back quickly. Jin Kyung asked Woo Chang was he sincere about it. Woo Chang smiled as he thanked Jin Kyung for what she had done earlier with Jin Woo. Jin Kyung said she did it for Soon Geum. Jin Kyung told Woo Chang to see her till there as she asked for a hand shake. Woo Chang took her hand as both of them had a laugh.

Soon Geum read Jin Woo a story and sent him to sleep saying that they were sending Jin Kyung to the airport tomorrow. Jin Woo said he will like to go to US and Soon Geum said she will sent him there for his university studies. Soon Geum said he will be so tall and matured by then and there was many things they should talk about. Jin Woo went to sleep while Soon Geum patted him.

The plane took off

10 years

Madam watching the television of tearful reunions with great emotions. Soon Geum paid a visit with a new hanbok for Madam. Soon geum said she did not realised so many people had lost their relatives. Madam looked at the hanbok and commented the workmanship was not as good as before. Soon Geum showed a photo of Jin Kyung and Jin Woo to Madam. Madam asked whether Jin Woo was not too shock on learning that Jin Kyung was his mother. Soon Geum said they had cried a lot together. Soon Geum said that Jin Woo was closer to Jin Kyung's husband than Jin Kyung herself. Soon geum said Jin Kyung's husband was a good person. Madam said remarriage was a good thing.  Soon Geum asked whether Madam wanted to go out for a walk but Madam said Chi Soo was coming home and she needed to prepared the food.

Soo Geum said that Jae in was great as a prosecutor. Madam said she was grateful for everything now as she never had expected to have such good fortune. Madam asked about her family. Duk Goo and his wife had a second child and even got a piano. In Ok had a new line of clothing and Jung Soo managed to produce his medicine. Madam asked how long was it and Soon Geum said it took 10 years. Madam asked about Woo Chang and Soon geum said he had gone to Seoul. Madam hoped he was successful looking for his relative.

Soon Geum went to inspect her ginseng farm. Woo Chang looked for Soon Geum and told that he had found his mother. Woo Chang said his mother will be happy that the ginseng farm that his father had dreamt of was realised. Woo Chang told Soon Geum that he had got hold of the ginseng seeds that his father had left behind. Soon Geum was so excited.

A flashback of Woo Chang and Soon Geum's childhood of their dream and aspirations.

Soon Geum held Woo Chang and told him in English that she loved him. Woo Chang smiled as Woo Chang looked at Soon Geum lovingly and they watched the Imjin River together.

Jackie1048,  Thank you my dear chinggu for your translation assistant.. I'm so happy this novel is over but for me I'm a junkie for them so I will most likely checkout the next one.. I seen nobody has open a thread for it so I'll hold off and see if someone else will do it..

  Soon Geum held Woo Chang and told him in English that she loved him. Woo Chang smiled as Woo Chang looked at Soon Geum lovingly and they watched the Imjin River together.

You know I never once heard Wv telling Sg that he loved her I had heard him tell other people that he loves Sg but not her..

I am also very glad that this TV Novel is over. Unlike you @valsava, I am NOT going to watch the other one. I can't do it. Just looking at the picture, I know who is going to annoy me, who is going to be the witch. The heroine already looks like she's another SG that will let everyone walk all over her till the last scene. I think it's the way she's holding the bowl (ha.. I'm dum)

Frankly I have enough of TV Novels being sucked into their dull plots time and time again ...... and I am no glutton for punishment.  Probably do what I have been doing in the past year, just follow the dramas on the threads here.... if half way thru and I still find posting thats seem to indicate its worth watching then I will.  Keywords I always keep alook out for in any threads are phrases like 'its a train wreck', 'draggy and boring', ' the heroine is so spineless and gets slapped around by everyone'.... I think u get the picture.  I could not stand SG here cos 'misery' was her middle name.  Its dragged on so long and finally limped into an exhausted ending.  Just one big yawn.

TV Novel (TV소설) was the name of a KBS1 daily morning drama series that ended in 2009. It was a collection of TV shows that usually feature a wide variety of characters whose lives intersect in a small town. The long number of episodes in each story allowed characters to be fully developed and explored in depth. The first show named Love aired on 2 March 1987.

The broadcast of TV Novels ended in 2009 mostly due to production costs, but started airing again in November 2011 on KBS2.

You have to note that the viewers in Korea for this morning drama are probably the elderly and will recalled those times better. This sort of drama appealed to them. My Mum sat through these morning drama complaining of the silly plots but still sit loyally every morning to watch it on TV.
