[Ratings: Wed, 04.24.13] ‘Heaven’s Will Challenges and Threatens ‘When a Man Loves’

A new competitor arrives with the exit of KBS’ Iris 2.
KBS’ Heaven’s Will, starring Lee Dong Wook, Song Ji Hyo, and 2AM’s Lim Seulong began on Wednesday night with a closely-knit story.

As the first broadcast set down the foundation and introduced the first conflict in the series, Heaven’s Will ranked at number two with a rating of 9.3 percent. The drama closely chased after MBC’s When a Man Loves, which has been uneventfully taking the top spot for Wed/Thursday dramas.

With a new contender in the game, things may get a bit more exciting than recent weeks.

"Heaven's Order" starts of at 9.3%

KBS 2TV drama "Heaven's Order" caught up with MBC drama "When A Man's in Love" with 9.3%.

According to Nielson Korea on the 25th, "Heaven's Order" rated 9.3%.

"Heaven's Order" started off with a pitiful fatherly love during the Chosun Times. Lee Dong-wook, Song Ji-hyo, Kim Yoo-bin and others made appeared on this day.

"When A Man's in Love" has been in the lead until now with 10.5% but still fell 0.8% compared to last week.

Meanwhile, SBS "Everything About My Relationship" rated 4.7% which is 0.8% less than 5.5%.

Song Ji-hyo posted a picture of herself on Facebook saying, "It's the day! You know what it is! The first broadcast of "Heaven's Order"!"

She wrote, "We are in the making of the drama and the first episode can be seen at 10PM on KBS 2TV. I hope you like it!".

Song Ji-hyo is posing with her hands under her chin wearing her physician's dress.

Heaven's Order Episode 1 Review: Song Ji Hyo Gives Advice to Lee Dong Wook "Practice Your Skills"

In the first episode of Heaven’s Order, Hong Da In(played by Song Ji Hyo) gave an advice to Choi Won(played by Lee Dong Wook) to practice his skills more.

Won has been looking for a medical book which can help him cure his daughter who has tuberculosis. He asked Da In if she saw the book. She answered, “It’s at the banned books library.” Won jumped and asked, “Why is it at the banned books library?” Da In said, “Do you really not know why? That book has pictures of naked women. Of course it’s at the banned books library.”

Won kept jumping and said, “Oh my… I’ve been too excited to see the book.” Then Da In looked at him as a pervert. Won tried to explain but it was too late.

Da In gave him a pathetic look and said, “Can I tell you something? Even if you find that book, it would be useless for an inefficient doctor like you. Why don’t you go practice your skills more.”

Heaven's Order Episode 1 Review: Lee Dong Wook Refuses Lim Seul Ong's Request of Becoming His Doctor

In the first episode of Heaven’s Order, Choi Won(played by Lee Dong Wook) refused the crown prince, Lee Ho(played by Lim Seul Ong)’s request of becoming his doctor.

Previously, Won was called to apply acupuncture on the king, but refused. Won kept asking him to save the king, but Won said he cannot dare to. Luckily, another doctor came and saved the king.

Later, Ho scolded Won saying, “Is your daughter’s life more important than your king?” However, Won answered, “The only reason I’m here at the Royal Medical Center is to save my daughter’s life.”

As Ho kept on pleading Won to become his doctor, Won told him about his grandfather, who got his right wrist cut for the sacrifice of politics. Therefore, Won has been trying not to get involved in politics since then despite his outstanding medical techniques.

Ho lastly pleaded him by promising him that he will find the medical book Won has been looking for to cure his daughter. Won hesitated.

Heaven's Order Episode 1 Review: Kim Yoo Bin Sobs in Front of Lee Dong Wook "I Want to Live Long with You, Daddy"

In the first episode of Heaven’s Order, Choi Won(played by Lee Dong Wook)’s daughter, Choi Rang(played by Kim Yoo Bin) feared death and cried in front of her father.

Won told Rang not to go outside because he was afraid her tuberculosis would get worse. When he came back home from work, he noticed she was gone. He looked everywhere in the village to find her.

Rang was sitting by her mother’s grave. Won scolded, “What are you doing here? I told you not to go outside!” As he tried to drag her home, she didn’t listen. She shouted, “I have to drink medicine everyday, get acupuncture, and can’t go outside to play with friends. I’m going to tell mommy to take me with her.” Won was upset and told her to go. As he walked away, Rang cried until she fainted.

Won brought Rang home. She spit blood while coughing and got scared. She started crying again and said, “I lied to you, daddy. I don’t want to leave you. Even if I have to get acupuncture everyday, I want to live long with you, daddy.” Won wiped her tears and answered,”Don’t cry, my dear.”

Heaven's Order Episode 1 Review: Park Ji Young Plans to Kill Lim Seul Ong "I Need You to Die"

In the first episode of Heaven’s Order, Queen Moon Jung(played by Park Ji Young) planned to kill the crown prince, Lee Ho(played by Lim Seul Ong).

As Choi Won(played by Lee Dong Wook) gave Ho a medicine, Ho said, “Will this be a poison or medicine?” Won answered, “Your heart will decide whether it’s a poison or a medicine?” Won said, “Even if this is poison, I will drink whatever you give me.”

Right after Ho drank the medicine, his palace exploded. Won, who had to live to save his daughter, tried to escape with Ho. While they were about to leave, the queen came in and blocked them. She said, “Ho. I need you to die.”

• The cast members of the new KBS drama, The Fugitive of Joseon, revealed hand-written messages to root for the drama's success.

  During a press conference held on April 17th at the Imperial Palace Hotel, actors Lee Dong-wook, Song Ji-hyo, Park Ji-young, Song Jong-ho, Lim Seul-ong and Yoon Jin-yi personally autographed cards with the drama's titled engraved on it to hand out to fans, wishing for the drama's success.

  This will be Lee Dong-wook's first period piece as well as the first time he will act as a father. He asked for continued support while showing great confidence for the piece. Song Jong-ho and Yoon Jin-yi had messages full of energy while child-actor Kim Yoo-bin's message also gathered a lot of attention for her cute, student handwriting.

• Song Ji-hyo didn't forget to add that it's necessary to watch the drama when it airs, but also to catch the reruns making the crowd laugh.

  Park Ji-young, who will play the charismatic Queen Moon-jung, used a cute voice saying "Please love our drama", which was in contrast to her character's personality. Meanwhile, Lim Seul-ong, who will play the crown prince that goes against Queen Moon-jung at every whim, wrote out his wish that the viewers' rating will go sky high.

  Netizens also showed much enthusiasm for the new drama with many saying, "Lee Dong-wook's confidence makes me more curious about The Fugitive of Joseon", "Their handwriting is all really cute", "Kim Yoo-bin is loveable! I'll catch the drama when it airs!" etc.

  The Fugitive of Joseon is about a father who gets embroiled in a cruel conspiracy at court and goes on the run after being framed for murder. The first episode will air on April 24th at 10 p.m. on KBS2TV.

MBC‘s ‘When a Man Loves‘ has maintained its title as the #1 Wednesday-Thursday drama… for now.

According to AGB Nielsen Media Research, the April 24th broadcast of ‘When A Man Loves’ scored a 10.5% viewer rating, which was a 0.8% decrease from its viewer rating of 9.7% last week, but it still was enough for the drama to grab the #1 spot in its time slot once again.

Meanwhile, the April 24th premiere of KBS 2TV‘s ‘Mandate of Heaven‘ kicked off to a good start with a strong 9.3% viewer rating, which was a 1.1% decrease from the viewer ratings for the finale of its predecessor ‘IRIS 2‘.

‘When A Man Loves’ centers around the secret affair of Han Tae Sang (Song Seung Hun) and Seo Mi Do (Shin Se Kyung), and it’s been keeping fans on the edge of their seats as a love triangle unfolds. ‘Mandate of Heaven’ is also receiving praise as a well-made historical drama, which features the story of Choi Won (Lee Dong Wook) who becomes a fugitive on the run and tries to save his daughter from an illness.
