[Ratings: Wed, 05.02.13] ‘When a Man Loves’ Continues Lead Over ‘Heaven’s Will’

ratingtweettweet1tweetGo to Forum    0  |   Reply  0Still making all the right moves (like Song Seung Hun), MBC’s When a Man Loves came out as the victor once again for another week.

On Thursday night, When a Man Loves broke the previous tie to lead the dramas with 10.8 percent. KBS’ Heaven’s Will also increased, but unfortunately not enough to tie once again or take the lead.

And sadly for SBS’ All About My Romance, it is still struggling in the lower single digits area with 5.7, an increase from Wednesday night.

MBC‘s ‘When A Man Loves‘ and KBS 2TV‘s ‘Mandate of Heaven‘ came in at a tie for Wednesday, leaving viewers wondering which ‘Man’ will win with the Thursday episode. The winner has turned out to be ‘When A Man Loves’ for last night’s segment.

According to AGB Nielsen Media Research, the May 2nd broadcast of ‘When A Man Loves’ achieved a 10.8% viewer rating which is a 1.3% increase from its previous viewer rating of 9.5%.

‘Mandate of Heaven’ achieved a 9.9% viewer rating which is an increase from its previous viewer rating of 9.5% but not enough to beat out its competitor.

While these two leading dramas duke it out in the ratings department, SBS‘s ‘All About My Romance‘ has been standing along the sidelines unable to shine with a lackluster rating of 5.7%.

Song Ji-hyo put out her life just to save Lee Dong-wook.

On the fourth episode of the KBS 2TV drama "Heaven's Order", Hong Da-in (Song Ji-hyo) went to Lee Jeong-hwan (Song Jong-ho) to save her life saver Choi Won (Lee Dong-wook).

Hong Da-in met Lee Jeong-hwan with the help of Jang Geum (Kim Mi-kyeong) and said, "The ornament is mine. Please let him go and reinvestigate". Lee Jeong-hwan said, "How do I know you're not lying under someone's orders?"

Hong Da-in then answered, "I will put my life on the line to prove I am not lying" and she took his sword against her neck.

Lee Jeong-hwan tried to believe her and said he would think about it.

DRAMA RECAPS
Mandate of Heaven: Episode 3

Better and better. The story moves quickly, the characters are developing nicely, and puzzle pieces are dropped and pieced together in a nicely suspenseful way.

We’re still maneuvering the plot into position to fulfill the latter part of our title, Mandate of Heaven: Joseon Fugitive Story, but I like that the show is spending just enough time on certain characters to give us time to develop attachment to them, rather than cramming everybody into the front of this sucker before we even care who’s who, Jeon Woo-chi style. I also continue to be pleased to have little dashes of humor strewn throughout, given that the overarching story is such a high-stakes, life-and-death one.

Mandate of Heaven: Episode 4

This is a particularly gorgeous episode. Perhaps that’s because it contained scenes to be used as the drama’s opening sequence, or perhaps the change of scenery offers up a whole range of movement and color that we hadn’t seen previously within the palace confines.

In any case, our characters and are story swing into full action mode with our hero on the run and a very dogged officer determined to hunt him down. I won’t argue that Mandate of Heaven is a seamless drama or even the best of its kind, but it’s very solidly engaging, chock-full of appealing characters, and a feast for the eyes. Best of all is that while there’s enough plotting and scheming to keep the politics strung taut with conflict, I’m really finding this show to be an unexpected dose of fun. And that’s never unwelcome.

Lee Dong Wook

Lee Dong Wook has returned to drama land this month in the new series "Heaven's Order," also called "The Fugitive of Joseon." In this drama, he plays a royal doctor who is unjustly accused of poisoning the king. He must flee to prove his innocence and find a cure for his sick daughter.

Whether this is your first drama with Lee or you're a longtime fan, there may be a few facts you don't know about him.

1. Lee made his debut in 1999 and for the last year served as an MC on the show "Strong Heart." The star of "Scent of a Woman," "My Girl," "La Dolce Vita" and "Wild Romance" has always wanted to appear in a historical drama, although he imagined the role he would play would be a warrior or king. With his new drama, he has fulfilled half of his wish.

2. He has long wanted to direct.

"Although I don't have a specific story in mind, later on I want to have the opportunity," said Lee. "I want to explore an intricate story line revolving around a man and five women."

3. He does not see himself as romantic.

"To be honest, I am not a romantic person," said Lee. "Because of the romantic roles I play, everyone thinks I am a romantic in real life. I'm not like that at all."

He does not believe in love at first sight but if he had to come up with one physical feature that he finds attractive in a woman, it is the curve of her neck.

"When a girl ties her hair while holding the rubber band in her mouth, exposing the swan-like curve of her neck, that's especially sexy," he said.

4. He has army buddies from his military service that he considers his brothers and kept in touch with following his discharge in 2011. He is still close with Kim Jae Won of "Can You Hear My Heart." They worked together as army radio disc jockeys for eight months. He is also close to Lee Jin Wook, currently appearing in "Nine: Nine Time Travels."

5. He once admitted to dating an onscreen drama girlfriend although he would not say who she was. Rumors have linked him with Girls Generation's Jessica, actress Kim Hyun Joo, actress Kim Sun Ah, singer-turned actress Eugene Kim and actress Lee Da Hae. He has not admitted to being more than friends with any of these women. Now that he is in a new drama, with co-star Song Ji Hyo, it may be time for some new dating rumors.
