Princess Isabella becomes one of the golden girls with traditional royal bracelet
22 AUGUST 2012

She's still only small, but Isabella of Denmark already has a jewellery collection fit for a princess.

When she turned five back in April, one of the packages waiting for her as she bounded out of bed contained a precious gold bracelet, as modelled by the little one below.

princess-isabella---z.jpg

Danish royal tradition states that all of the ladies in the family receive the glittering gift on their fifth birthday.

It's only recently that the delicate piece has been seen gracing the youngster's wrist – most notably when she and brother Christian were enjoying the London Olympics with their parents, Crown Prince Frederik and his wife Mary.

The custom dates back to the days of Isabella's great-grandmother Queen Ingrid – who had the same surprise waiting for her on her fifth birthday in 1915.

Sadly, Ingrid's mother died when she was only 10, and she vowed to continue the bracelet's legacy through the generations.

Her daughter Queen Margrethe, pictured above with the family heirloom makes sure that the tradition is upheld amongst her own granddaughters.

And the Danish monarch will no doubt continue for Isabella's little sister Josephine, and her cousin Athena, the daughter of Prince Joachim and Princess Marie.

Fashion forward Mary and Marie join forces for Parliament opening

03 OCTOBER 2012

Royal watchers are intrigued by the relationship between Denmark's glamorous Princesses, Mary and Marie.

And on Tuesday, the popular sisters-in-law were in the public eye once more with a show of affection at an official engagement.

Both women greeted each other with a kiss on the cheek as they turned out in their finery for the opening of the new Danish parliamentary season.

The annual event at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen is a well-established tradition.

princess-mary1--a.jpg

Crown Prince Frederik's stylish wife Mary opted for understated elegance in a black A-line coat dress and matching hat.

Marie's sartorial choice contrasted beautifully - the French-born brunette opting for a figure-hugging beige suit and vertiginous heels in the same muted tone.

The outfit belied the fact that Marie recently welcomed her second child Athena, with husband Prince Joachim.

Completing the family affair were Queen Margrethe and her husband Prince Henrik.

Seven's a charm as Prince Christian of Denmark celebrates his birthday
15 OCTOBER 2012

A thundering 21-gun salute back in October 2005 greeted the birth of Denmark's little Prince Christian.

Since then, he has accumulated several years of cute birthday pictures, and the snaps of his seventh are particularly charming.

Proud parents Crown Prince Frederik and his wife Mary released the official images to mark their eldest child's birthday on October 15.

Christian looks all grown up as he takes centre stage in the country photoshoot.

His piercing blue eyes and confident pose are reminiscent of his father Frederik – with whom he shares a strong physical resemblance and destiny as the future king of Denmark.

Birthday photo calls are a much loved tradition for the royal family. Back in May, Christian's sister Isabella was the star of her own shoot when she turned five.

The snaps – taken by her mother Mary – were equally adorable.

With each passing year, the young royals show more and more of their emerging personalities.

At the London 2012 Olympics, Christian had Danish officials in stitches when struck a Usain Bolt pose while the cameras were trained on him.

And little Isabella has already started her own jewellery collection. She received a stunning gold bracelet to mark turning five.

Danish royal tradition states that all of the ladies in the family receive the glittering gift after half a decade.

Mary and Frederik's child-free Chinese getaway

00:00, Tue Dec 11 2012

coverslide2.jpg

Royal tours aren't always fun for the visiting prince or princess, but Mary and Frederik seemed love every minute of their child-free trip to China.

Denmark's Crown Prince and Princess spent four days in Asia while their four children stayed at home with nannies.

The royal couple seemed to relish the opportunity for some rare 'couple time', spending much of the tour whispering and gazing lovingly at each other.

It's great to see the royal couple still acting like newlyweds after eight years of marriage!

Inauguration of King Willem Alexander of the Netherlands

princess-mary--a.jpg

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark opted for a Charlotte Lynggaard white silk dress with a floral print on the skirt and waist, which she styled with the same Prada pumps and Bottega Veneta clutch. On this occasion, she added a blue netted fascinator instead of the more traditional tiara. While this might be considered fairly laidback, she is the epitome of elegance.

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark: Standing out in red, the princess wore a red Jesper Høvring long-sleeved gown with a beautiful tiered skirt. Ruby Parure earrings and a bouffant updo completed her look. This gown is a repeat; the princess first wore it during her wedding celebrations back in 2012.

Cute images of Princess Isabella released to mark her 6th birthday
23 APRIL 2013

Crown Prince Frederik and his wife Princess Mary have released new images of Princess Isabella this week to mark the youngster's sixth birthday.

The royal couple always share pictures of their daughter's big day – which falls on 21 April – and this year was no exception. The latest snaps show the little princess smiling sweetly into the camera as she plays in the park.

isabella-close--a.jpg

The pictures show that Isabella has an eye for style – just like her mum. Her blue gilet and print top are perfectly accessorised with a pretty floral headdress in the same shade. Pink trousers and shoes completed her look.

Princess Isabella spent her big day surrounded by family and friends.

Frederik and Mary organised a private party for their daughter, who enjoyed cupcakes and gifts with her siblings Christian, seven, and twins Vincent and Josephine, two.

Prince Joachim, his wife Marie and their eldest son Henrik were also at the party, and Queen Margrethe attended with her sister Benedikte.

isabella-smile--a.jpg

Last week, Queen Margrethe celebrated her own birthday with a family appearance on the balcony of Copenhagen's Amalienborg Palace. Although the monarch was on fine form, it was her young grandchildren who stole the show.
