Lee Min-ho says impossible for “City hunter” to follow original work

Korean actor Lee Min-ho has said that he knew it would be impossible for his current TV series “City Hunter” to be the same as the comic it is based on.

He made the remark at a press conference held on the set of SBS new drama yesterday while responding to a reporter’s remark on how the audience thinks the show is different from its original work, a famed comic by Japanese manga artist Tsukasa Hojo.

“After reading a few episodes of ‘City Hunter,’ I told myself there won’t be much character-wise that I’ll be able to carry over from the original comic into my character in the drama,” explained Lee, based on his experience with working on dramas based on comics including the highly popular “Boys Over Flowers.”

“So I didn’t try to differentiate them on purpose but I just tried to act out my character in the way I understood him as being and how I felt about him.”

He then added, “The same goes for the plot as well. I think it became dramatized quite a bit because it has to be adapted into a drama so things such as their pain was added in.”

“That’s why I feel that our production should be called ‘CITY HUNTER: THE BEGINNINGS’ because you could say that all that happens now leads to what happens in the comic.”

Making it the first time for the comic to be adapted into a TV series, the Korean drama portrays Lee Yoon-sung, played by Lee Min-ho, who vows to get revenge on his father’s death by following through a plan which begins with him working at the Blue House after receiving his doctorate from MIT.

He then meets Kim Nana, played by actress Park Min-young, who is a judo athlete-turned –bodyguard at the presidential office protecting Choi Da-hye taken on by Gu Hara, how is the youngest daughter of Korea’s President.

The show, also starring actors Lee Jun-hyuk and hwang Sun-hee is a collaboration by famed producer Jin Hyuk of hit dramas “Brilliant Legacy” and “Princess Prosecutor” and scenarist Hwang Eun-kyung of “New Hit” and “The President.”

The drama, just into it’s second episode now, has fared well so far bringing in viewership ratings in the nine to ten percent range on the Wednesday and Thursday primetime lineup while competing against MBC’s “The Greatest Love,” starring Cha Seung-won and Kong Hyo-jin, and KBS’s “Romance Town” which stars Sung Yu-ri and Jung Kyo-woon

I was applauding Lee Minho while watching Episode 3. I can see every effort he puts in for the drama, be it martial arts or marksmanship, there's no one better than you, Minho ah. <3

I scared Lee Jinpyo so much. Sooooooooo much. I was like, "Yoosung ah, don't disappoint or make your appa angry. Coz I'm too scared when he's angry." lol

And there's one scene I love the most in Episode 3, where ajushii bought cooking utensils and fill YS's living room up.

YS: What is it?

Ajushii: YS ah, Korea is so good, you just need to call and they send it to home, even giving the service?

YS: *roll eyes* So, you bought them with whose card?

Ajushii: Of course, yours. I don't have money, anw.

YS: *priceless expression*

Yoo Sung ah, don't be angry. Isn't it you who brag way too much about having rich father or having too much money in previous episodes? Why you are frowning and getting frustated over buying kitchen utensils with your card? Baby, your dad have countless boxes of gold, okay?

"City Hunter" Goo Ha-ra popularity explodes, debating number of cuts

The staff of SBS drama "City Hunter" are concerned about Goo Ha-ra's amount of appearances.

Goo Ha-ra is Choi Da-hye, the president's daughter in the drama "City Hunter". She is a active and lively character who doesn't like the shade of being the president's daughter and is a repeater.

At first Goo Ha-ra wasn't cast for a permanent role in "City Hunter" but a special appearance. Therefore the appearing cuts weren't meant to be enough to affect the drama layout.

However, even before the drama was broadcasted, she had been getting lots of attention and her popularity rose among the staff. Her role started affecting the drama as much as the lead character. Debate is leaning towards expanding the number of Goo Ha-ra appearances.

Goo Ha-ra's management says, "Kara has a new single coming up in Japan at the end of June. It should take a few weeks so she doesn't have time to shoot the drama which she is also pre-shooting now".

"We are not sure about expanding her appearances. It depends on the Japan schedule".
