Nam Joo Hyuk, Shin Se Kyung, Krystal, And More In Talks For “Bride Of The Water God”

In June 2016, tvN announced that Jung Yoon Jung, the writer of tvN’s hit office drama “Incomplete Life,” had started writing tvN’s modern-day adaptation of the Korean fantasy manhwa “Bride of the Water God.”

Casting for the drama, which will be pre-produced, is now underway. Previously, it was reported that Nam Joo Hyuk and Moon Chae Won were in talks for the drama, and it was recently revealed that f(x)’s Krystal, Shin Se Kyung, and Gong Myung are also considering roles.

Shin Se Kyung is in consideration for the lead female role of So Ah, and Nam Joo Hyuk for the lead role of Ha Baek. Gong Myung has been offered the role of Bi Ryeom. None of these actors have made their decisions as of yet, although some reports are saying that Gong Myung has already declined.

[Naver] Shin Se Kyung offered lead in 'Bride of the Water God' with Nam Joo Hyuk

Naver - Ilgan Sports: [Exclusive] Shin Se Kyung cast alongside Nam Joo Hyuk in 'Bride of the Water God'

Shin Se Kyung's character is So Ah, a neuropsychiatrist. Due to her father's stronger love for humanity than his own family, she had to cope through tough childhood and spent years studying and working part time jobs to pay off her father's debts and eventually open up her own doctor's office. Bride of the Water God is a spinoff of a historical fantasy comic of the same name. If casting goes trough, it will be Shin Se Kyung's comeback drama after Six Flying Dragons and her first cable drama since debut. Jang Yoon Jung (Misaeng) is writing the script and will be directed by Kim Byung Soo (Nine, Three Muskeeters).

3. [+1,306, -180] Well, she's a better match with Nam Joo Hyuk than Moon Chae Won

4. [+644, -61] The casting is still in the works, I don't see the point in writing about it.. Shin Se Kyung is only discussion, things could change..

5. [+686, -124] She matches with the male lead more than Moon Chae Won

Shin Se Kyung Offered Lead Role in Korean Drama Bride of the Water God 2017

Posted on February 21, 2017by Kay

Bride of the Water God 2017 Korean Drama - Shin Se Kyung

Shin Se Kyung (Six Flying Dragons) has now been offered a lead role in the upcoming tvN drama Bride of the Water God 2017. An offer originally went out to Moon Chae Won, but she ultimately turned it down. So now Shin Se Kyung is up to play a neuropsychiatrist running her own office that is struggling to pay off the massive debt incurred by her father and school. Nam Joo Hyuk (Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo) is still considering an offer to play the Water God.

Several other new offers have also recently went out. They include Krystal (She’s So Lovable) as a goddess who has feelings for the Water God, Gong Myung (Drinking Solo) as a wind god who has feelings for Krystal’s character, and Yang Se Jong (Saimdang Light’s Diary) as another water god who is the CEO of a resort and will be the main romantic rival of the Water God.

So that’s a lot of people considering offers! I’m definitely warming up to the cast though. I’m a big fan of Shin Se Kyung, so this is a casting I actually really like, and I hope that she accepts. She seems like she would be a good match with Nam Joo Hyuk.

As for the potential supporting cast, I also really loved Gong Myung in his two recent dramas, so I would be thrilled for him to accept the role. We just need some confirmations now!

Based off of the popular manhwa, Bride of the Water God was about a village suffering from drought that offers young women as sacrifices to a water god. One of the sacrifices eventually becomes his bride.

The drama version moves the setting into modern day Seoul while keeping the original characters from the story. The writer penned Misaeng and Arang and the Magistrate while the PD did Nine: Nine Time Travels and Queen In Hyun’s Man.

Bride of the Water God 2017 is looking to air in the second half of 2017 on tvN.
