persephone
I need help and I'm hoping a kind soul in this forum can assist with my problem. After a recent power outage, I can no longer access the Internet through my D-Link DI 524 router, either with my desktop or laptop. If I hook up my computer directly to my modem, I have Internet connection. So at least I know the modem is not the issue. I have tried all sorts of methods: 1. Unplug and shut down both modem and router 2. Repeatedly reboot the computer 3. Hit the reset button on the back of the router and held it for 20 secs 4. Using the D-Link router installation cd to re-install the router. The cd would stall at the router configure stage Also, my ip address has changed. Before the power outage, it was 192.168.0.1. Now, when I look up my ip address through the cmd command, it is 192.168.1.1 I will forever be grateful for any help to fix this.
froggy604
You can log into your router, and see if DHCP Server is enable for your router. You can also check to see if your router is set to Obtain IP address automatically in the WAN setting in the router website at http://192.168.0.1/ You log into your router by going to a address which looks like http://192.168.0.1/ with a web browser like Internet Exploree and typing in your username and password for your router which is usually if you did not change it. persephone
Thanks for your response, froggy604. I tried logging on to http://192.168.0.1 and I'm stuck again. Below are the screen caps: http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/6695/70724769.jpg http://img693.imageshack.us/img693/3567/22602506.jpg I entered my username and password, then hit the edit profile, which got me to the second page. What do I do now?
awdark
I think that is the page for your modem You need to connect your router and configure that, actually you can leave it at 192.168.1.1 for now and change it later. When you connect your PC directly to your modem, do you need to log in to connect? I think if you have cable internet you will need to setup mac cloning, if you connect with DSL then you have to configure the username and password for your internet and hope that works. persephone
I used the installation cd to configure the router. But that didn't work. It kept stalling. So I am at a lost how to fix this. When I called D-Link technical support, they want to charge me $30 for 1/2 hour of phone time. The last few times I called, it took more than 1 hour to fix my problem (this was when I still had warranty on my router). I always have a hard time understanding the technicians because the the tech support dept is in India and all technicians have very thick accents. I can barely understand their English. Aish, I might as well buy a new router and get free tech support that way. Would probably be cheaper. Thanks for your attempts to help me, froggy604 and awdark
Donnerschlag
I just bought my dad a new D-Link N 150 Home Router and it is actually pretty nice. Paid $30 at frys. Has rangebooster on it as well for our machines using 802.11g cards.
