I felt really sad honestly after reading the news, as I felt that Jang Jin-young was too young to leave us and she was a really good actress. Though I haven't seen all of her dramas, I've seen her last drama Lobbyist with Song Il-kook, and I liked her Maria character in that drama, too bad that she lost to the Big C but I know that she is already happy in Heaven and that she will not feel any pain anymore

here are some of the pics I have of her, from the drama Lobbyist (2007)

Actress Jang Jin-young dies of cancer at 35

200909020013.gif

Popular actress Jang Jin-young died of stomach cancer yesterday aged 35 - a year after doctors had diagnosed her with the disease. According to local media reports, Jang had returned to Korea early last month from the United States after undergoing therapy and had been recuperating from treatment since July.

But in recent months her condition worsened after experiencing a relapse and the "Blue Swallow" actress was checked into Seoul St. Mary's hospital, where she died yesterday afternoon. All treatment was ended after doctors determined her condition had reached a point of no return. Her family, her boyfriend, and members of her management team were at her side when she died.

According to Yedang Entertainment, Jang's management company, "Until the last moment, she held onto the passion she had as an actress and that passion continued to burn without losing that beautiful smile," and added "the smile that she showed through her movies will never be forgotten and her passion for movies will always be remembered."

In September of last year, doctors at the Seoul National University Medical Center discovered the cancer during a medical check-up and since then she had undergone extensive chemotherapy and acupuncture to battle the disease. With her condition improving earlier this year, Jang was seen attending a Kim Gun-mo concert in her hometown of Jeonju with her boyfriend.

The couple had been gaining media attention for their public relationship. Jang and her boyfriend, the son of a former lawmaker, reportedly had been seeing each other since the beginning of 2008. Even after she suggested they end their relationship when she was diagnosed with the disease, her boyfriend remained by her side until the very end.

Jang, a former beauty queen, began her career in acting in 1997 in a KBS television mini-series and made her silver screen debut in 1999 with "Jagwimo."

From there on, she starred in a string of high-profile box office hits starring alongside such leading actors as Song Gang-ho in "The Foul King."

Actress Jang Jin-young Dies of Cancer at 35

By Han Sang-hee

Staff Reporter

Korean actress Jang Jin-young passed away Tuesday evening after losing a battle against stomach cancer. She was 35.

Jang had been hospitalized in Seoul after her condition recently worsened and doctors had reportedly been giving her morphine and other drugs to relieve the pain.

The news of the actress' sudden hospitalization Tuesday startled fans, as it was thought that she was recovering after resting for a month in Los Angeles. Jang was diagnosed with stomach cancer in September last year when she paid a visit to the hospital for a regular checkup. What she thought was a stomach ulcer turned out to be cancer, and Jang has been out of the public eye ever since.

"Actress Jang Jin-young passed away today at the Seoul St. Mary's Hospital at Catholic University of Korea. Even after she was diagnosed with cancer, she was always positive and tried to pay back the love and support her fans sent her. We will remember her passion toward films and we hope she stays in our hearts forever,'' Jang's agency, Yedang Entertainment, said through a press release.

After winning the Miss South Chungcheong Province beauty pageant in 1992, Jang started her career as a model. She made her first appearance as an actress in 1997 in the television miniseries "The Angel in Me'' (KBS). She continued to appear regularly on television before making her big screen debut in the 1999 horror film "Jaguimo'' starring Kim Hee-seon. Her first big hit was the movie "The Foul King'' in 2000, and from then the actress was seen in numerous films such as "The Siren'' (2000), "Sorum'' (2001), "Over the Rainbow'' (2002), "The Scent of Love'' (2003) and "Singles'' (2003).

In the horror film "Sorum," Jang played a mysterious wife with a secret and won the Best Actress Award at the Blue Dragon Film Awards. The hit movie "Singles,'' where she played the quirky character Na-nan, also got her the same recognition at the 2003 awards. Her character in "Singles'' was a big hit among young women, with many changing their hairstyles to the short and curly hairdo the actress wore in the film.

"The Scent of Love'' was also one of her best known works, where Jang played a patient diagnosed with stomach cancer. In 2006, Jang joined fellow actor Kim Seung-woo for the movie "Between Love and Hate'' and won the Best Actress Award at the Korean Film Awards.

The actress returned to the television screen in 2007 in the drama "Lobbyist'' with fellow actor Song Il-guk. She was diagnosed right after the drama finished. Along with numerous films, the actress also appeared in various commercials ranging from cosmetics to electronic goods.

A ceremonial funeral hall will be set up at the ASAN Medical Center in southern Seoul.

Top Actress Jang Jin-young Dies of Stomach Cancer

[2009-09-02]

Top actress Jang Jin-young, who had been struggling with stomach cancer, died on September 1 at age 37. Jang's agency, Yedang Entertainment, said the actress passed away at 4:04 p.m. at St. Mary's Hospital in Seoul.

7120_326_l.jpg

Jang learned about her disease in September last year during a health checkup, and since then had undergone treatment in Seoul. Her condition improved once, and she even attended a concert of singer Kim Gun-mo in May. In July this year she received treatment in the U.S. and shortly afterward disclosed that she had a boyfriend.

The actress also received acupuncture treatment and even talked about it on TV. But she was hospitalized again because her condition deteriorated last month, and she was told that her cancer had spread all over the body and was impossible to cure.

Jang's agency said the actress had suspended her treatment last month and had been spending time with her family to prepare for her death.

Last month, Jang was transferred from Seoul National University Hospital to St. Mary's Hospital. She was already unconscious when she was transferred.

Born in 1972 in North Jeolla Province, Jang debuted as an entertainer in 1992 when she won the Miss South Chungcheong Province title. She appeared in many TV commercials and debuted as an actress in the 1997 TV drama "Angel In Me." She went on to appear in "Three Guys, Three Girls," "Good Heart." "Soonpoong Clinic" and others. While playing only supporting roles in TV dramas, Chang made a foray onto the big screen in 1999 and since then had grown into a highly recognized movie actress.

She appeared in the movies "Ghost In Love," "The Foul King," "Sorum," "Scent Of Love" and "Singles." She was the first actor in Korea to portray the life of a woman pilot in the movie "Blue Swallow." In "Between Love And Hate," she perfectly portrayed a woman living on the fringes of society, gaining recognition for her outstanding talent.

Jang received the Best Actress award for her roles in "Sorum," "Singles," "Blue Swallow" and "Between Love And Hate." She also received the Best New Actress, Popular Star and Best Actress in a Miniseries awards. The movie "Sorum" earned her the Best Leading Actress award at the 2002 Portugal Fantas Porto Festival.

Jang appeared in numerous TV commercials. In the 2002 commercial for Hyundai Card, where she appeared alongside actor Chung Jun-ho, she portrayed a working woman who was about to go away on a vacation. She also acted as a model for air conditioner and cosmetics brands thanks to her healthy and sexy charm.

Jang made a comeback to the small screen after a long absence in October 2007 through the SBS TV drama "Lobbyist," where she played lobbyist Maria. That was her last production.

Jang's bereaved family includes her parents and elder sister. Her altar has been set up at St. Mary's Hospital in Seoul. The funeral is slated for September 4.

Actress Jang Jin-young Dead at 37

[2009-09-02]

Just one day after she was admitted to the hospital, actress Jang Jin-young passed away Tuesday afternoon due to kidney and respiratory failure. She has been battling stomach cancer since last summer.

A number of her colleagues and fans paid their last tribute to her at the memorial set up at Asan Hospital in southeastern Seoul. Her co-stars from movies and TV dramas, including Park Hae-il of “The Scent of Love,” Kim Ju-hyeok of “Singles,” and Song Il-gook of the TV series “Lobbyist,” have come to the hospital. Online tributes have continued as well with internet users posting their condolences and playing a song from her film, “The Scent of Love,” in which she played a stomach cancer patient.

Jang’s real-life love story is just as heartbreaking as the one she portrayed in the film. Her boyfriend, known only by his surname Kim, and Jang got married when they were in Las Vegas this summer. They have reportedly obtained a marriage license in Korea as well. He has stuck by the ailing actress even after she tried to break off with him last year. Together with her family, he stayed by her death bed to say his last goodbye.

More details about her funeral and burial will be released later by her agent.

Pictures that i had with insung ~ she was so Pretty there

These pictures are from 2006 Korean Film Awards. The part with Jang Jin-Young is very memorable.

Typically, winners would return as presenters the following year. In 2005, Hwang Jung-Min and Jeon Do-Yeon won Best Actor and Actress awards for "You Are My Sunshine". Jeon Do-Yeon wasn't well (if i remember correctly) so Jang Jin-Young replaced her as the presenter for Best Actress in 2006. Also a Best Actress nominee for her performance in "Between Love And Love", Jang Jin-Young the presenter also became the winner. :)

KMM and JJY were co-stars in KMM's first film, Sorum (2001)

Both were also winners of Grime Awards in 2007.

News in Dramabeans

Jang Jin-young was secretly married

September 1st, 2009 // by javabeans

Perhaps to ease the sad news of losing 35-year-old actress Jang Jin-young to cancer yesterday (Korean time), the press has been highlighting the fact that Jang left this world having enjoyed a fulfilling career and, as it is now being reported, love life as well. News is circulating that Jang had actually secretly married her boyfriend (only identified as Mr. Kim, 43) with a small wedding ceremony in the States in July, where she was receiving treatment. The couple then went through the paperwork to legally register the marriage in Korea on August 28, just days before her September 1 passing.

The marriage was evidently kept secret not only from her management, but also their families. A reporter’s call with Kim’s father, a former member of parliament, led to an incredulous denial. However, a source at the Seongbuk-gu (a Seoul district) city office confirmed, “The two have completed the marriage registration, and Jang Jin-young and Mr. Kim were legally spouses.” An employee at the office said that Kim came to the office in person with Jang’s official identification and registered the marriage.

Kim père said, “I’ve never heard this before. She was going through a time where she needed to focus on treating her illness, why would she have married? We have no connection to Seongbuk-gu, and it makes no sense that they would have registered their marriage there.”

The city official explained that because of Kim’s area of residence, he is eligible to handle civil matters in any district of his choosing. The Seongbuk-gu office was in the vicinity of the hospital where Jang was re-admitted.

Since her death, a steady stream of celebrities and friends have been paying their respects to their deceased colleague. (They include: Lee Byung-heon, Jeon Do-yeon, Han Ji-min, Song Il-kook, Song Hye-gyo, Jung Jun-ho, Kim Ah-joong, Kim Jung-eun, Lee Beom-soo, Hwang Jung-min, Yoo Sun, Im Soo-jung, Kim Joo-hyuk, Park Hae-il, Han Jae-seok, Lee Jung-jae, Han Ji-hye, Kim Seung-woo, Lee Seung-yeon, Kim Seok-hoon, Eom Ji-won, Park Kyung-lim.) The funeral procession will take place on the morning of September 4.

Ohh.. I remember that, Jang Jin Young totally had no idea that she had won Best Actress Award because whoever was picked to present the award wouldn't (usually) be the winner, right. The camera focused on her surprise reaction when she was announcing her name in disbelief.. There was quite an applause from the audience and cheer, too because of her stunned and teary, happy reaction. Such a rare sweet moment, a bittersweet memory of Jang Jin Young left to cherish, indeed.

Thanks kdramafanusa for the highlight, it's truly a sharing to remember.

Late actress had secret wedding before death

By Hyun Ji-hyang

Actress Jang Jin-young, who died of stomach cancer on Tuesday, and her lover -- only known by his surname Kim -- registered their marriage four days before the star's death.

News reports said according to the Seongbuk-gu district office, the couple had registered their marriage on Aug. 28.

A district official was quoted as saying, "On Aug. 28, Kim brought Jang's ID card and submitted a report of their marriage and U.S-issued marriage report that he brought."

In secret, the couple wed in Las Vegas, Nevada in July 2009, when the actress left Korea for the United States as part of a recuperation program. According to an interview with Sports Khan, Kim's father, a former lawmaker said that he had "never heard about their marriage."

The junior Kim, a real estate businessman, first met Jang in January 2008. After diagnosed with cancer, the star suggested their separation, but they ended up staying together.

The details of actress Jang's will have not been made public, and it is unclear if widower Kim is included in it.

Jang succumbs to cancer

02210835.jpg

Jang Jin-young, a leading Korean actress who had been battling stomach cancer for the past year, died Tuesday at age 37.

The star had been undergoing medical treatment at Seoul National University Hospital since being diagnosed last September with gastric cancer during a health checkup.

Many fans thought Jang was on the road to recovery after she made a public appearance at Kim Gun-mo’s concert in May and then inked a two-year contract with her management agency, Yedang Entertainment. Her condition, however, took an unexpected serious turn for the worse last month.

Jang made headlines in July when it was revealed that she was dating a photographer-turned-businessman in his mid-40s, who was only identified by his surname Kim, for about a year. She reportedly had intended to break up with Kim after she was diagnosed with cancer, but the businessman became even more devoted to Jang - a love story that pulled at the heartstrings of her fans.

According to her management agency yesterday, Jang and Kim tied the knot, registering their marriage with the Sungbuk District Office, just four days before her death.

Jang, who was a beauty contestant in 1993, made her debut in the acting world in 1997 with the TV drama “Angel Within Me.” But she rose to fame by starring in numerous movies, including “Singles” (2003), “The Scent of Love” (2003) and “Between Love and Hate” (2006).

She won the Best Actress award at the Fantasporto Oporto film festival in 2002 for her performance in the film “Sorum.” Her latest work was the 2007 TV series “Lobbyist.”

From the time I watched Blue Swallow, I was intriqued by Jang Jin Young. Obviously very beautiful, I thought she was an incredible actress.

As I have said on Soompi before, the scene where Kim Myung Min strangles her to death in Sorum, was too realistic for me. I thought the both of them were incredible in portraying a death as graphic and as I think it would be.

I really looked forward to The Lobbyist when it was getting ready to air, and unfortunately as her last work it doesn't live up to her talent.

I can't even imagine how tough it must have been to be so young and to know that you are going to die. And yet from all accounts, she was courageous until the end. I hope that she was able to find peace in her final days.

RIP

I was shocked when I first heard that she was diagnosed with stomach cancer last year. She was so positive and optimistic about it that I really thought she would beat it. It's so sad that she passed away. I first noticed her in "Between Love and Hate" and she was such a beautiful and great actress. She had so much going for her and she was so young. Like any death this is such a tragedy. I feel so bad for her family and friends.
