Jang Jin-young Love Story Revealed

2009090300560_0.jpg

The husband of Jang Jin-young

visits Asan Medical Center on Tuesday,

where the actress' body lies in state.

Actress Jang Jin-young, who died of stomach cancer on Tuesday afternoon, had married her new boyfriend in a secret ceremony in the United States in July. Jang's agency Yedang Entertainment on Wednesday said the man, identified only as Kim, "proposed on June 14, Jang's birthday, and they got married in Las Vegas on July 26, promising each other eternal love."

The two registered their marriage in Korea on Aug. 28, only four days before the actress' death. Kim An-chul, a spokesman for the agency, said, "Jang and Kim first met on Jan. 23, 2008 when an acquaintance introduced them, and he was by her side while she was battling cancer until she drew her last breath."

"The reason why they kept their marriage secret was because they wanted to protect their love," he added. Jang's inheritance will go to her parents.

The love story drew much media attention, especially after Jang was diagnosed with cancer. Kim is second son of former lawmaker Kim Bong-ho and majored in photography at university. He worked for a company before becoming a businessman. Jang wanted to break up with him when she found out she had cancer, but Kim insisted on caring for her.

Love Story Beyond Death for Late Actress

By Lee Hyo-won

Staff Reporter

2009090316052710101.jpg

The late actress Jang Jin-young was confirmed to have wed a month ago, registering the marriage four days prior to her death, her management agency Yedang Entertainment said Wednesday.

The 35-year-old, who died of stomach cancer Tuesday, and her husband, identified only by his surname Kim, wed in Las Vegas in July, said Kim An-cheol, the public relations manager at Yedang, in a briefing Wednesday at Asan Medical Center, southern Seoul. Kim submitted their marriage registration to the Seongbok-gu Office on Aug. 28, he said.

The manager said that "the couple leaned on each other even through the taxing battle against cancer, and never let go of each other's hands until the very end."

He also transmitted word from Kim: "I was her (Jang) and she was me. My heart breaks that I had to let her go alone on this painful journey, and I cannot contain my sadness. I wish to, at the very least, cherish her forever in my heart. I hope to realize our love in heaven that we were unable to in reality."

The "Singles'' heroine met Kim through mutual friends in January, shortly after being diagnosed with cancer in September last year. Kim proposed on Jang's birthday, June 14, and the two tied the knot in Las Vegas on July 26. After returning to Korea Kim submitted their marriage registration form on Aug. 28.

"Kim stayed by Jang until her last breath. Please bless their beautiful and sad love that leapt over pain and agony,'' said the manager.

As for inheritance problems regarding Jang's remaining property, he said that Kim entrusted everything to Jang's parents. "I cannot disclose details but documentation for the matter has been finalized. There is not even a 1-percent chance that there will be a legal dispute for this,'' he said.

Jang's funerary ceremony will be held Friday morning. Her remains will be cremated and buried in Gyeonggi Province.

Actress JANG Jin-young’s Death Saddens Industry

1251971510885115566_Jang.jpg

One of Korea’s top actresses, a favorite with critics and audiences alike, JANG Jin-young passed away Sep 1, at the young age of 35. Diagnosed last September with stomach cancer after a routine check-up, the actress was said to be recovering when her condition took a turn for the worse last month.

JANG’s acting career took off in tandem with the boom in the Korean film industry. She debuted in Ghost in Love (1998), but drew attention for her strong performance opposite SONG Kang-ho in hit 2000 film The Foul King by KIM Ji-woon. Her role in 2001 horror Sorum won her numerous best actress awards in Korea, and one abroad at Portugal’s Fantasporto International Fantasy Film Festival.

Her role in the 2003 hit Singles earned her the best actress prize at the nation’s Blue Dragon Awards and won her a broad fan following. She continued to win prizes for her leading roles in Blue Swallow (2005) and Between Love and Hate (2006). Her last role was in the SBS TV series Lobbyist (2007).

South Korea's largest film event announces lineup

By Shin Hae-in

SEOUL, Sept. 8 (Yonhap) -- The Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF), South Korea's first and one of Asia's largest film events, finalized its lineup Tuesday, with nearly 100 films to be premiered for the first time during the fete.

Opening with "Good Morning President," a film by South Korean director Jang Jin and starring Korean Wave star Jang Dong-gun, the 14th PIFF will feature 355 films from 70 countries from Oct. 8-16, the largest of the annual events to date.

20090908135529_bodyfile.jpg

"...President," the latest of comedy master Jang's creations featuring three fictional presidents striving to get involved in "real politics," is the first local movie to open the event in three years.

Held each year in the southeastern port city of Busan, after which the event is named using the old Romanization system, PIFF was established in 1996 and has since grown into one of most influential film fests in Asia with its focus on discovering new films and first-time directors from across the region.

"Sound of Wind," a lavish period spy flick about communists fighting against Japanese invaders, will close the event. Directed by Chen Kuofu and Gao Qunshu, the movie is one of the most impressive Chinese films of the year, organizers of PIFF said.

Up to 98 films will be premiered for the first time during the Pusan fest, which will be held at six major theaters and arthouses in Busan under 11 categories.

Along with current prizes, including the New Current Award and the Sonje Award, which come with cash prizes of 30 million won (US$24,000) and 20 million won, respectively, PIFF has newly established the "Flash Forward Award" this year, to be given to emerging directors from non-Asian regions.

Oscar-nominated French director Jean-Jacques Beineix will head the jury for the New Current prize along with South Korean cinematographer Kim Hyung-koo, Thai director Pen-ek Ratanaruang and Taiwanese actress Terri Kwan. New Currents is PIFF's only international competition section featuring first or second features by leading directors of Asian cinema.

Various special programs have also been prepared to spice up the event, organizers said, including retrospectives on Chinese action master Johnnie To and late South Korean directors Yoo Hyeon-Mok and Ha Gil-jong.

Three representative works of South Korean actress Jang Jin-young, who died Sept. 1 at the age of 35 after suffering from stomach cancer, will be screened in a show of condolence for the late actress and her fans.

Pusan Promotion Plan (PPP), a pre-market venue where promising filmmakers and producers meet with potential co-producers and financiers, will again open on Oct. 11-14. Established in 1999, the PPP has played an important role in connecting young and little-known directors to funding sources from in and out of Asia.

Hundreds of the world's best-known film stars including Bryan Singer, the producer of Hollywood's "X-men" series, actor Josh Hartnett, Japanese auteur Masahiro Kobayashi and Italian director Dario Argento will be attending the event.

Expected to be visited by more than 200,000 people this year, organizers of PIFF also said they were on high alert for the fast-spreading Influenza A virus, setting up medical booths in all event locations and requesting prior cooperation from nearby hospitals.

None of the invited guests have so far canceled their visit due to the virus, according to organizers.

Tickets for the opening and closing films will go on sale on- and off-line beginning Sept. 21, with the remainder to go on sale beginning Sept. 23.

i was also really sadden by the news of her death ... she was much too young ... and had still alot to do in terms of her career. much as i agreed that her last work which is the series "the lobbyist" wasn't at par to her talent ... but then i guess ... she had no idea that that would be her last work.

i have seen almost all her films ... and it was to my mind that she still had alot more to show. truly so sad ....

my condolences to her family and husband!!
