i think your friend misheard you or they just dont know japanese

but in japanese senior is 先輩(senpai)..and its pronouced like "sem-pai"

the problem lies more in how you define mortality in english..if you view it as I view it as the state of being human, and not living forever (ie the opposite of immortality), then 人生or possibly 人間 would be the closest equivalent, if you view it as the number of deaths in a particular situation of period of time or a death itself well that's kind of different..but for the first one there's no 1 to 1 translation for it in japanese..you can say things like　死ぬ運命　or 死を免れないこと but those don't really sound poetic at all when used with むなしい . It's more about trying to translate meaning than trying to translate word for word

whats the meaning of mou ichido i know ichido means once but whats it mean when together

e.g. "mou ichido yondekudasi" = "please read it once more"

so basically the english translation is a backwards translation of it so it would actually be ichido mou ?

Its because the sentence structure and grammar between English and Japanese are totally different, so don't apply your knowledge of English to Japanese. If you're learning the language, try to think Japanese, not English

Just remember that mou ichido means 'once more' like twinkle_l0ve said :3
