I'm quiet pleased at how Wondergirls are still amongst the highest paid endorsers! But their amount dropped so much..i guess it has something to do with their absence in the Korean scene. I remember during Tell Me and SO Hot fever. They were the highest paid stars amongst idols.

I spotted this post while reading back & must clarify.

Actually the quoted 500 million won figure (ignore akp's currency conversion) remains consistent for WG ever since they relocated overseas.

Here is a translated article excerpt from early May when the 2DT release was imminent:

Wonder Girls return to the Korean stage has the advertising market  running wild to get the girls to work for them. Wonder Girls are  currently advertising six products which include modeling for Sony  Ericsson Asia Pacific, EXR Korea, BBQ Chicken, Cafe Mori, their own  cosmetics line WG by WONDERgirls and KIA Forte. With their comeback it  is expected that they will shoot 3 or 4 more CFs.

An advertisement spokesman said,

"The Wonder Girls are responsible for the girl group craze today.  They also symbolize the greatness of being on the Billboard main chart.  They may have been absent in the Korean market for the past two years  but this is the reason the advertising market is paying attention to the  Wonder Girls. By only accepting a minimum of 500 million won per CF  they recorded 3 billion won solely from CFs while they are awaiting  their comeback."

Been checking the back pages (while proof-reading my WG 2010 itinerary). WG's appearance fees in China had really shot up in the past few months.

In late July (circa end of North American tour), a Chinese report said WG's asking price there was RMB 300,000 (USD 45,000).

By year's end, the girls were supposedly paid RMB 1 million (USD 150,000) for Harbin & RMB 1.6 million (USD 240,000) for the JiangsuTV NYE show.

In between, they also went to the following China cities: Chengdu (Polar Ocean World), Changsha (HunanTV Happy Camp), Ordos City (Nadam Festival), Hangzhou (ZhejiangTV China Blue), Zhengzhou (Wushu Festival), Yixing (Tsinghua TsuPark Gala), Hefei (Gree Anniversary Concert) & Hangzhou again (China Mobile).

Hong Kong also allegedly paid them HKD 8.8 million (USD 1.14 million) to hold a concert in the SAR, but I think this is exaggerated. But who knows, since it is a full show & not just a 3-4 song set.

By contrast, a Korean marketing survey listed WG as among 6 artistes who commanded at least 60 million won (USD $54,000) domestically for August.

In other words, the girls could make thrice as much money in China. No wonder they performed there so much in the 2nd half of 2010.

Factoring in favorable exchange rates, I believe WG has covered JYP USA's financial deficit for 2010, & might have enough income left over to budget for 2011 too (assuming WG will tour next year).

How about this re-discovery too: JYP said at the Pivot Conference that WG's album is due next .... spring.

wonderstruck -- I corrected you then by stating he was speaking too off-the-cuff & might have mixed up his English language.

But in hindsight it appears he was genuine after all, insomuch corresponding with Yoobin's 'Feb-March' claim.

Retrospectively, WG also took rather long (about a week) to shoot the 2DT MV. Partly cuz it was done in 3 languages.

But at least the international media reported the timings & locations, even though the film set was off-limits.

(Bobby Lee also tweeted about it towards the end, but nobody make the connection until a month later when sneak pics surfaced.)

I think the public will likely be informed about a MV filmshoot again, once final plans for the new single gets the go-ahead.

The reverse also holds true: the longer the silence, the more unproductive the US stint becomes.

Sunye's Maybe is already one of the HOT tracks on melon chart ... I hope Wonderfuls can get the song up on top 10 as well since it's a promising beginning, on the top 10 chart they've shown Sunye's ost as fast rising.

I tried comparing qoxie and wonderr23 figures, I just hope this exercise is not forgetting important details...

2008 earned 4 billion won and the 6 CF contracts of the beginning of 2010 earned 3 billion won, so apparently it's been a 25% reduction which is not bad considering the current mission of promoting in the states for long periods.

But factoring in the grand total of 12 billion won earned by the Wonder Girls in 2008, which is reported in their English Wikipedia page, the gap widens.

Starting from qoxie figures I estimate about 2 million USD as total of the Chinese concerts, to which we must add the US & other Asian countries concerts, and TV earnings (MTV & MNet), and merchandising rights (Justice) -- I consider musical sales not influent because they tipically raise smaller figures compared to the rest.

So the year should have ended with a good balance, most probably exceeding past year expenses, but it should not be at the peak levels. On the good side, it's been a year of growth, which was realized while still having small recognition in the US -- the untapped potential is enormous.

Despite that, I'm not betting on JYPE US next financial statement being in the black. What's sure is that the girls had good earnings, but JY is too dynamic to let his money rest. He's been dividing his activity in small companies including JTune Ent. (quoted on the Kosdaq) which was recently acquired from Rain. So his part of the Wonder Girls revenues is probably serving multiple projects, partly allocated to the US and partly to the other Asian projects.

This time I'm not becoming impatient about the exact date of next Wonder Girls record release, instead I'm more interested in knowing the collaborations and especially if Dave Stewart's song is going to be in it. That short demo still runs in my head and I still want to hear it complete.

Actually, WG was paid much, much lesser per endorsement in 2007 & 2008.

I vaguely remember China WFs referencing Korean sources & claiming WG earned a high of 150 million won for each CF deal then.

WG's CF income was always derived more from contract volume & not so much asking price.

My theory is JYPE always aims for 10 Korean endorsements for WG each year, while setting the minimum threshold at 6 (the latter was achieved for all 4 years).

They priced a higher figure accordingly, partly reflecting WG's status & leverage, & partly cuz the girls wouldn't be physically in Korea much in 2009 & 2010.

Despite that, I'm not betting on  JYPE US next financial statement being in the black.

I believe the Korean currency has appreciated by about 300 won against the US dollar in the past year.

That's an extra US$350,000 against 2009 levels if, say, JYPE budgets US$2 million & use Korean money to finance it now.

10일 선예의 KBS2 드라마 '드림하이' OST '메이비'가 공개됐다. '메이비'는 헤어진 연인을 그리워하는 마음을 조심스럽게 고백하는 어쿠스틱 팝 트랙이다. 청아한 음색을 가진 선예의 섬세한 보컬이 돋보이는 노래로 선공개된 아이유의 '썸데이(Someday)'와 같은 장르지만 다른 느낌을 선사한다.

특히 선예가 OST 작업에 참여하는 것은 4년여만의 일이라 눈길을 끈다. 지난 2007년 방송된 KBS2 드라마 '한성별곡' OST '일월지가'를 부른 뒤에는 OST 작업에 참여한 적 없었던 것. 또 원더걸스는 지난해 '투 디프런트 티어스(2DT)'로 2주 가량 활동한 뒤 이렇다할 국내 활동을 펼친 적 없어 오랫동안 이들을 기다려온 팬들에게는 반가운 소식이 될 전망이다.

On the 10th of January KBS2 drama Dream high OST "Maybe" was released. "Maybe" is a gentle pop song about confession and love. Her delicate vocals in "Maybe" can be compared with IU's "Someday", but the songs are very much different in composition.

Particularly this OST has been receiving a lot of attention for this is Sunye's comeback OST since 4 years hiatus. On 2007, she sang an OST for the KBS2 drama Hanseong Byeolgog titled "The Sun and Moon". This sure is a great treat for fans as they were expecting a comeback since their 2DT promotions.

Fans expressed, "Sunye's song is very nice". Meanwhile, Sunye's solo song is receiving a lot of positive reactions as well.

Here is the relevant LiaoningTV Chinese New Year (CNY) info.

I think the articles are mostly rewrites, but there are many of them. Highlighting the earliest media report plus 3 other newspaper reports that has e-paper (i.e. published) pages.

Not familiar with this Xiao Shenyang ('Little Shenyang') dude, but after reading up on him & watching his YT clips, he is best described as a bawdy Chinese-style vaudeville comedian.

China WFs don't want WG near him, from the feedback I'm seeing.

Liaoning Province, like Heilongjiang (Harbin), shares borders with North Korea. So it will be a very short trip for WG... if they do commit to the event.

They will miss Lunar New Year's Eve (not sure if Koreans have reunion dinners like the Chinese) but can fly back home for Seollal (Lunar New Year).

Possibly stay long enough to celebrate the 4th career Anniversary Day &, who knows, maybe film the MV for the new single too.
