woah another great episode. since it's a long drama i doubt they can keep up this pace.. but it sure is off to a greeaatt start.

i think this is the first korean drama i saw that had cantonese speakers. they must have hired a linguist. even the koreans speaking other languages were somewhat intelligible. the little deok-man is impressive. it was fun to see such a diverse group of ppl they put together too.

go hyeonjeong continues to impress me. she confuses me at times but i think that is a good thing. such cruel person she is but you can see her fear and reservation as well.

At least one of the foreigners (the plump one) was a Korean pretending not to be. Felt like watching 서프라이즈.

'twas a cute scene, but Miss Kim as always shows shallow historical consciousness. She makes all this rainbow of languages, even troubles herself to show some Yue folks speaking broken Han lingo, and then forgets that.... uh... a "Roman" merchant from the early 7th century would never speak Latin. Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantines)--->Greek.

Oh well... it still was fun. Nam Ji-Hyun has improved a lot since Sejong. And the Taklamakan is so prrrty (though they shot in Dunhuang ㅋㅋ)

ms. nam can be overboard but i thought she was great as the tomboy deokman.

then 15 yrs pass, and deokman and sohwa run an inn in desert in china.

mishil's servant general finally find deokman and sohwa.

meanwhile back in silla palace, the 3rd prince also dies. (2 others died before him)

lady maya believes it is because she gave birth to twins 15 yrs ago and thus the curse of no male heir.

but king jinpyeong believes cheonmyeong is mishil's rightful rival.

mishil tells cheonmyeong it's her fault her brothers died and she must do nothing if she wants to live.

From the first two episodes aired, [Queen Seon-deok] has proven itself to be captivating, as expected from a highly anticipated historical period drama. This drama is backed by not only the best writers and the most talented actors as well as a solid and detailed storyline, but it also has the powerful combination of directors Park and Kim.

We have director Park Hong-gyun, who opened a new era of medical dramas with [New Heart], and the young director Kim Geun-hong, who worked alongside Lee Byeong-hun in some of the greatest historical dramas.

In his 13th year of this line of work, Park Hong-gyun is acknowledged by all for his exquisite style and attention to detail, as proven by the way he really made contact with the viewers in [New Heart].

On set in the Ningsia Province, in the desert, in parks and other locations, the [Queen Seon-deok] crew had to fight a bitter and harsh battle with sandstorms and the freezing cold 20 degrees below zero, Celcius. Park had a word of praise of young actor Nam Ji-hyeon, "She has great potential as an actress and is someone viewers should have high expectations for."

The other member of the director duo is young director Kim Geun-hong, a historical period drama specialist who learned his tricks and techniques from the great historical period director Lee Byeon-hun. Kim has moved on from [Yi San] to complement director Park in the new [Queen Seon-deok].

One unique habit of director Kim Geun-hong: every time he goes into a new project, he dyes his hair yellow. Perhaps it's his good luck charm? Everyone thinks it's a hopeful sign since he has had a lot of success in the past with director Lee Byeong-hun. On the other hand, director Kim explains it as, "Since it's a huge project and a historical period piece, I just want to make myself stand out so the staff can find me easier in a crowd. It's my service to them."

Director Kim also showed his satisfaction in Mi-shil, "Go Hyeon-jeong of the role Mi-shil practically spits fire both on and off camera with her intensity and her passion."

Both directors expressed their satisfaction with Go Hyeon-jeong's performance as well as both stating, "It gets even better," thereby raising our expectations once again for the drama.

While the first two episodes of [Queen Seon-deok] dealt with Mi-shil (Go Hyeon-jong) and her obsession to take over the palace, starting episode 3 we see the appearance of our heroine, Princess Deok-man.

Taking on the role of younger Deok-man until episode 7 is actress Nam Ji-hyeon. When King Jin-pyeong found out of Mi-shil's plan to kill Deok-man, he had his nanny So-hwa take her far away, and she grows up in China as a strong young woman.

Young Deok-man is an obedient daughter who does everything for So-hwa, and she's also a talented middleman in barters and trades with Rome and the western world. For this role, Ji-hyeon practiced Latin as well as Chinese.

Nam Ji-hyeon received a lot of attention for her portrayal of the younger version of Han Ji-hye in [East of Eden]. This first year student in middle school spent 20 days of last February in China on location, from the Ningsia Province to the desert to gardens.

The [Queen Seon-deok] crew fought bitter battles with sandstorms and the freezing cold that reached 20 degrees below zero Celcius. Diretor Park Hong-gyun said of her, "She has great potential as an actress and is someone viewers should have high expectations for." After the premiere event, writer Kim Young-hyeon praised her highly, "I have as high expectations for her as I do for Go Hyeon-jeong."

Young Ji-hyeon is courageous enough to grab snakes with her bare hands. She says of her character, "Young Deok-man has a bright personality, and inside she has a strong will, and I thought she was similar to me in those ways. Director Park Hong-gyun guided me well so I could completely immerse in the character. That made the location shoot in China not so difficult."

Even the veteran actors Chil-suk (An Kang-gil) and So-hwa (Seo Young-hui) had difficulty dealing with the intense cold in the desert, but Ji-hyeon surprised everyone on the staff by showing a calmness and focus.

Nam Ji-hyeon commented, "I was glad to see things I've never seen before, like the neverending expanse of the desert, but it's true that I was a little homesick. [...] Since I did a lot of walking and running in the mountainous sand with the camel day and night, when I came back to school my friends all teased me that I was majorly sunburnt."

She added, "I'm nervous and excited about working with Go Hyeon-jeong in the future. [...] I will show the viewers that I am trying my best."

I agree. So far this drama is exceeding my expectations--which were admittedly low after the recent disappointments with dramas dealing with Samguk sidae.

I think the difference in Nam's performance has to do with the roles. She was adorable in "The Lobbyist," and she has essentially the same type of vivacious, cute girl role here.

mishil tells cheonmyeong it's her fault her brothers died and she must do nothing if she wants to live.

Was that a hint that Misil killed her brothers (perhaps poisoning?)? Or am I reading too much into her simple threat?

Archenemy of Queen Seondeok. As a beautiful seductress, she held sway over kings and the elite Hwarang corps. Her duty was to promote the children of the noble class to high positions, but instead she used her beauty to seduce King Jinheung and King Jinpyeong to wield enormous power. But Princess Chonmyong and Princess Deokman opposed her and stopped her from becoming the ruler.

While trying to reinstate her sister as a princess, she was assassinated by Mi-shil.

A great Silla general. With a handsome face and outstanding battle skills, he became the leader of the elite Hwarang corps. Queen Seon Deok is actually my first saeguk drama that I've ever watched since I'm not really a big fan of saeguk. I'm not really familiar with most of the casts except for a few of them. So far, the story of this drama has been growing on me. Go Hyun Jung definitely has done a very good job in portraying Mi Shil. Even though 50 episodes is a bit too long for me (I notice that most saeguks have the trend of doing long episodes) but I'm going to give it a try and continue watching this drama. I hope it's not going to get draggy somewhere in the middle.

This drama is doing really well with the ratings. I'm guessing most people who watched Queen Of Housewives are staying. I'm hoping the ratings will continue to increase steadily. As always, my deepest appreciation to cute girl for the torrent links.

I understand that 50 episodes is not long for saeguks but for me personally, it is. That's one of the reasons why I don't really watch saeguk and daily dramas.

Normally, I would only watch those dramas that ended with 24 to 30 episodes the most. So, this drama is an exceptional for me.
