(News Focus) South Korean top actors turn to launch independent agencies

 

SEOUL, May 23 (Yonhap) -- South Korean top actors are rushing to set up their own agencies to secure more income and flexibility in schedule. The move is especially popular among certain "hallyu" stars, or South Korean celebrities followed globally, with skyrocketing annual income.

Experts say that starting an independent company is a worthwhile shot for top stars of large earnings.

A company with many talents cannot spare undivided attention to one super star. Herein lies the problem, because independent agencies with exclusive management work better for a leading actor who earns the majority of the agency's income.

Since the actors themselves have to concentrate on their career, they prefer to have their family members manage their income. Additionally, this will save the actors on commissions, deducted from the star's entire income and paid to the agency.

Some of the top-earners of the Korean entertainment industry are Kim Tae-hee, Jang Keun-suk, Rain, Hyun Bin, Seven and Ko Hyun-jung.

Vulnerabilities also abound in setting up an independent agency.

Like other small-sized talent agencies, one-star agencies may lack experience and know-how in business management, since acting and business are two separate worlds.

Startup agencies may struggle in making subtle business decisions.

Among the hurdles for self-managed star agencies are larger-than-expected maintenance expenses, which rendered many stars to shut down their businesses, according to experts.

Hot celebrity couple Kim Tae Hee and Rain have been spotted at Gimpo International Airport!

 

Recent rumors stating that Kim Tae Hee and Rain traveled together to Jeju Island have been proven to be true, as the two were recently captured leaving the airport. K STAR reported that the photos are from May 17, the day the couple returned from their trip. 

 

Reportedly, the couple tried to escape the gates in a secretive manner with Kim Tae Hee leaving first, then Rain following her out about 10 minutes after. In addition, K STAR wrote that to the question regarding their marriage rumors, Kim Tae Hee remained silent, while Rain simply answered, "We are well." 

 

The full clip of the couple's arrival at the airport is scheduled to air on K STAR's 'Star News' on May 25.

WATCH with English subs: Rain blows into China and competes on Running Man China 4

 

 

South Korean game/variety show Running Man, ongoing since 2010, has become one of the longest-running shows in the country's history and has reached massive popularity all across Asia. China's spin-off version, 奔跑吧兄弟 (Hurry Up, Brother, a.k.a. Running Man China), is in its 4th season and has called on über-entertainer Rain to give its 6th episode some Korean "flava"!

Running Man China's original cast members for Season 4 are Deng Chao (team leader), Angelababy, "Jerry" Li Chen, "Michael" Chen He, "Ryan" Zheng Kai, Wong Cho Lam, and popular cutie Lu Han. They were stoked when surprise guest Rain sauntered out to his "LA Song" tune. After giving him and additional guests, singers Tan Wei Wei and Jason Zhang, a nice welcome, everyone split into teams and it was on like Donkey Kong.

Having guest-starred on past episodes of Running Man in South Korea and in Australia, Rain (a.k.a. Jung Ji Hoon) showed a healthy appetite for Blue Team versus Yellow Team competition. Looks like a great time was had by all!
