Rain, who is currently serving in the military, has joined Cube Entertainment and will be labelmates with Beast, 4Minute, G.NA among others. He has a special tie with the agency’s founder and CEO Hong Seung Sung, who was the president of JYP Entertainment during Rain’s early years in the entertainment industry. Industry insiders view Rain’s decision to join Cube Entertainment as a big sign of loyalty.

On May 28, CEO Hong Seung Sung wrote a long message on the company’s official website updating fans and the public about Rain’s addition to the company. “2013’s spring, Rain and Hong Seung Sung are standing here before a new start. Even though Rain had a lot of offers, he decided to join us [our agency] because he wants to go back to his roots and he is more passionate than ever.”

The CEO continued, “I remember May 2002, where we got to see world star Rain’s debut stage and I can’t hide the excitement just thinking about that spring. Afterwards, many beautiful springs have come to pass.”

He went on, “He’s a singer, actor and producer and have set a lot of records as ‘the first.’ You’ll be able to witness the beginning of Rain’s second wave now, who doesn’t know limits and have shown his potential by becoming a world star entertainer.”

In closing, Hong Seung Sung wrote, “With that thought, I want to thank Rain for his loyalty despite receiving many offers from other places. Also, during his trainee years, he constantly aimed for ten years ahead, which resulted in today’s passionate Rain. I’m preparing every single day like a partner and friend. I promise that I will return your never ending love and support for Rain and make sure the company leaves a beautiful legacy. I will wholeheartedly and sincerely do my best as his partner. I will not avoid risky paths, but will be thankful that we can do this together.”

Meanwhile, Rain will be discharged from active duty on July 10.

class="articletitle"SM and YG: Top 2 Entertainment Agencies, Cube Aims for No.3

June 5, 2013

76374-sm-and-yg-top-2-entertainment-agen SM and YG: Top 2 Entertainment Agencies, Cube Aims for No.3

SM Entertainment and YG Entertainment are definitely the top 2 agencies in Korea while JYP Entertainment still seems to not have settled completely.

The 2013 performance records of the leading entertainment companies have been revealed. The YG Entertainment could be the leaders in the whole race followed by the global success of Psy.

On May 15, it has been revealed that the business profits from the first quarter came out to be $6.29 million USD. It is a 44% increase from the previous year and the profit from sales rose by 40% with approximately $29.86 million USD. The net profit increased by 27.2% compared to last year at $4.16 million USD. YG Entertainment is currently the leader of the top 3 agencies.

SM Entertainment earned a business profit of about $5.1 million USD which is a 72.1% decrease from the previous year. However, the profit from sales came out to be over $49.9 million USD which is a 0.7% increase. The net profit decreased by 80% at $2.03 million USD.

Unlike SM Entertainment and YG Entertainment, JYP Entertainment seems to have lost a lot of business. Their first quarter profits were minus $936,000 USD. Although it was 63.3% less, compared to last year,'s losses of $2.55 million USD, JYP Entertainment was the only agency that had any losses.

JYP Entertainment had about $2.87 million USD in sales, which is a 57.1% increase. The net profit of the term was about minus $1.07 million. It is a big improvement compared to their loss of $2.89 million USD last year. Even though things are getting better, it is hard to avoid the fact that they are still struggling.

Recently, people in the music industry are building up their hopes for Cube Entertainment especially after singer Rain signed a contract with this agency. Cube Entertainment currently handles artists like BEAST and 4Minute.

In the second half of 2013, SM Entertainment will begin their world tour while YG Entertainment's 2NE1 is making a comeback this month, not to mention the global hype with Psy. It will be interesting to see the progresses of these entertainment agencies in the remaining half of this year.

[05-30] Cube expresses, “Jay-Z’s love call to Rain, Still under verification"

credit:ratoka@rain-cloud.co.kr

Regarding reports saying singer Rain has received love calls from Jay-Z, Cube Entertainment expressed their stand, “We are still trying to verify the exact truth.”

On the 30th, a media has reported that Rain is currently undergoing coordination works on an agreement with world famous rapper and producer Jay-Z. The media reported:

” Prior to his discharge, it seems like soloist Rain will soon cooperate with renowned rapper Jay-Z.

On the 30th May, it has been confirmed that Rain had been considering on an agreement with Jay-Z’s founded label Roc Nation recently.

Jay-Z who is keen on KPOP apparently sent love calls to Rain, and Rain was reported to have considered about it in a positive manner.

If the contract is to take effect, Roc Nation will be carrying out various overseas activities for Rain who is already known globally. Rain has recently took on roles in movies such as ‘Ninja Assassin’, ‘Speed Racer and more’, as well as releasing albums as a singer. His synergy with Jay-Z has gathered much attention.

It is a situation where Roc Nation is currently contacting Rain through aides. With no confirmed information on the current situation, attention is building high as to whether the contract will be carried out.

Rain’s future activities and orientations are still under coordination works.”

Announcing their partnership with Rain recently, Cube Entertainment expressed, “Rain-ssi is currently serving in the military, and that’s the reason why it is hard to verify the truth for now” and, “Once we grab more concrete details about the contract and confirm its validity, then we shall announce it”, they expressed.

Jay-Z’s love call is still in a vague state despite being said as the truth. Previously, Rain has agreed to promote under Cube after his discharge from the military, therefore it should be discussed with Cube beforehand.

Although Cube expressed their stand to promote Rain overseas actively, Jay-Z’s love call and conditions stated in the contract has yet to be confirmed, and because of that, it seems that they will need time to verify the matter.

class="articletitle"Kpop Invades Kdrama: Will There Soon Be An Idol In Every Drama?

June 8, 2013

77209-idols-in-kdrama-in-last-year.jpg

a6ac6bd1649a67163356b4a6fd07f5d2.jpg

In an article previously released, Kdramastars weighs in on the occurence of Kpop idols in KDrama.

If you want to make it as an actor in Korea these days, the best way may be to succeed as a kpop idol first. So many new dramas feature boy band and girl group members that it seems like securing an idol may be part of what's needed to get a drama produced.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. Most idols are talented, some are even better actors than singers, and they do draw in a younger, more musically inclined viewing audience. That's good.

And to even things out, there are actors who became singers, like Lee Min Ho, Jang Keun Suk and Kim Bum. YoonA from Girls Generation acted before she debuted, as did Jr. and JB of JJ Project.

But just for fun, lets count up all the idols that appeared in dramas in the last year alone.

Chansung of 2PM starred as Gong Do Ha in "Level 7 Civil Servant," group A Pink's Jung Eun Ji was Moon Hee Sun in "That Winter, The Wind Blows," Kara's Han Seung Yeon plays Maid Choi in the drama "Jang Ok Jung" and JYJ's Park Yoo Chun was Han Jung Woo in "Missing You." "Reply 1997" had Seo in Guk, Jung Eun Ji and Infinite's Hoya.

Miss A's Suzy Bae stars as Dam Yeo Wool in "Gu Family Book," IU plays the lead role in "You're the Best Lee Soon Shin" and Eugene, former SES member, appears as Min Chae Won in "One Hundred Year's Inheritance."

In the latest round of dramas, Girls Generation's Sooyoung plays Gong Min Young in "Dating Agency Cyrano" with a special guest appearance by SHINee's Lee Taemin, Beast's Yong Joon Hyung stars as an idol in "Monstar," 2AM's Im Seulong appears in "Heaven's Order," and Kara's Park Gyuri stars in "Nail Shop Paris." All of Kara have signed on to do a televised series, "Secret Love 2013," which will feature an episode with each of the singers. Wonder Girls' Park Ye Eun was cast in a new series, "Basketball."

This list probably misses someone but there are a lot of idols in kdramas to count. One person that could be blamed for this trend is singer and now also actor Rain, who starred in the 16-episode 2004 drama, "Full House." The show was very successful, earning ratings as high as 42 percent, and it set a precedent.

After that producers were eager to audition idols. They often say they do not cast someone merely because he or she is an idol. They must act well and work for the part. But being an idol can't hurt. What do you think? Should every drama feature an idol? Should they get preferential treatment? Does it matter if it's your favorite idol? Let us know.
