"The President" remains atop TV charts but sees slight drop in ratings

SBS drama “The President” continued to shine on top of Wednesdays and Thursdays’ prime time ratings charts.

“The President” which follows one woman’s quest to rise to the presidency recorded an average viewership rating of 24.35 percent this week, a slight drop from last week’s 25 percent, according to the data released by Total National Multimedia Statistic (TNms) on Friday.

In this week’s episode the heroine Seo Hye-rim (Ko Hyun-jung) announces that she is quitting her post as a lawmaker after realizing that her election pledge has only been used to promote a reclamation project in Namhae Island that drove the islanders to leave their home.

Her trustworthy friend Prosecutor Ha Do-ya (Kwon Sang-woo) too gets into trouble after falling into a trap set up by politician Cho Bae-ho (Park Geun-hyung).

Meanwhile, statistics by media research company AGB Nielson gave the show an average rating of 27.5 percent.

The second runner, KBS2’s “Fugitive: Plan B,” recorded an average rating of 13.8 percent, a slight gain from the previous 12 percent mark, according to TNmS' figures. AGB Neilson said the drama scored a mean of 12.4 percent.

The two parties -- Ji-woo (Rain) the private detective and Jin-yi (Lee Na-young), and Hwang Mi-jin's (Yoon Son-ha) gang -- compete to find hidden gold which is later discovered in Mt. Geomdan. However Hwang gets shot by her boss for knowing too much and the gold disappears once again.

MBC’s “Home Sweet Home” collected an average rating of 6.5 percent, improving from last week’s 5.2 percent on TNmS' survey. The drama, which premiered two weeks ago, has seen its ratings gain steadily despite being up against heated competition.

The series starring top Korean actresses Kim Hye-soo and Hwang Shin-hye, showing how trust between a married couple shakes and misunderstandings lead to distrust, yielded an average rating of eight percent this week.

SBS "Giant" tops weekly chart for 5th week

SBS TV series "Giant" [sBS]

SBS TV series “Giant” was the indisputable winner of Korea's weekly TV charts for the fifth week in-a-row.

Data by Total National Multimedia Statistics (TNmS) on Monday showed that “Giant” topped its survey once again with an average viewership rating of 29.1 percent during the week of November 1 to 7, although the figure slid by a slight 0.3 percent compared to its previous week.

The drama which airs on Mondays and Tuesdays deals with a story of three siblings separated when young but coming together later on in their life to confront people that threatened their family in the past.

Following behind “Giant” was KBS weekend drama “All About Marriage” with an average rating of 26.5 percent.

The drama, which looks into the meaning of marriage and true love through the lives of four couples living under the same roof, saw its position on TNmS' poll rise from third to second place.

Meanwhile, SBS drama “The President” which claimed the No.2 spot last week, slipped to third place with an average mark of 24.4 percent, falling from the former week’s figure of 25.5 percent.

The drama that criticizes and satirizes the world of politics through one woman’s quest for justice, stars top Korean actors Ko Hyun-jung and Kwon Sang-woo.

Meanwhile, KBS Sunday variety show “Happy Sunday” took fourth place with an average rating of 22.5 percent, and MBC drama “Golden Fish” fifth with 19.2 percent.

Other popular shows and dramas that were included in the weekly top 10, in order, were “Beautiful Life (SBS),” “Gag Concert (KBS),” “Infinite Challenge (MBC),” “Amazing People Caught on Camera (SBS),” and “Steel Heart (SBS)."

AGB Nielsen Media Research reported similar numbers for its top three TV shows; "Giant" in first place with an average rating of 28.9 percent, "All About Marriage" in second with 28.3 percent and "The President" in third with 25.2 percent.

"Giant" pushes past 30 percent mark on TV charts

SBS drama "Giant" [sBS]

SBS TV series “Giant,” the steady front runner of Monday and Tuesday primetime dramas, saw its viewership rating breach the 30 percent mark for the first time.

The show scored an average rating of 30.1 percent this week, according to data released by the National Multimedia Statistics (TNmS), a feat that comes after ruling over other dramas in the same time slot for the past five weeks.

This week’s story revolved around the confrontation between main character Lee Kang-mo (Lee Bum-soo) and his sister Mi-joo's (Hwang Jung-eum) former lover Cho Min-woo (Joo Sang-wook).

Another survey firm AGB Nielson Media Research however yielded a lower 29.6 percent rating for the program.

MBC drama “Queen of Reversals” came in second with an average viewership of 10.2 percent on TNmS' poll and 11.5 percent on AGB's survey. This is the first time the drama has posted a two-digit rating.

The drama has been receiving favorable reviews for depicting on the realities of the workplace and marriage through the hectic life of a married couple Bong Joon-soo (Jung Joon-ho) and Hwang Tae-hee (Kim Nam-joo).

New KBS drama “Marry me, Mary,” which started its run this Monday, lodged an average rating of 6.8 percent on TNmS’ chart and 8.25 percent on AGB's chart.

A romantic comedy about a girl named Mary, who falls into not one but two contractual marriages at the same time, stars some of the most popular young actors in Korea including Moon Geun-young, Jang Keun-suk, Kim Jae-wook and Kim Hyo-jin.

The story is based on a comic of the same title by cartoonist Won Soo-yeon, author of "Full House" which too was turned into a TV series starring Rain and Song Hye-kyo.

SBS drama "The President" leads Weds and Thurs

SBS drama "The President" [sBS]

SBS drama “The President” continued to remain the leader of Wednesdays and Thursdays prime time series though its ratings remained almost unchanged from last week.

According to data released by Total National Multimedia Statistic (TNmS) on Friday, the average viewership rating for “The President” was 24.35 percent, the figure the same from last week.

A survey by another media research company AGB Nielson Media Research meanwhile showed an average mark of 26.2 percent, about a one percent drop from the previous week's score of 27.5 percent.

“The President,” that portrays the world of politics through eyes of a woman who later becomes the first female president of the country, has been the top Wednesday and Thursday prime time drama for six weeks straight now.

The average rating for KBS2’s “Fugitive: Plan B” also remained almost same from last week, posting a score of 13.1 percent this week, according to the findings of TNmS, which is about a 0.7 percent drop from last week.

AGB presented a 12.75 percent rating for the drama which is a slight improvement from last week’s 12.4 percent.

"Fugitive: Plan B" is about a detective and his female client’s journey across Asia to find the truth about the death of their loved ones and the mystery surrounding hidden gold pursued by gangs.

Trailing behind its two competitors was MBC drama “Home Sweet Home” whose average rating stood at 6.2 percent on TNms' chart and 7.8 percent on AGB's survey. The mystery melodrama revolves around the conflict between a married couple of 10 years and a woman who may have killed her husband.

SBS “Giant” remains on top of weekly chart for sixth week

SBS TV series "Giant" [sBS]

SBS TV series "Giant" remained undefeatable on weekly TV charts for the six straight week, statistics by research firms showed on Monday.

SBS' “Giant” that tells of cutthroat competition existing in the world of business through the story of three siblings marked 30.1 percent in average rating last week, according to Total National Multimedia Statistics (TNmS) survey from November 8 to 14.

Occupying second place was the KBS2 weekend variety show “Happy Sunday” whose average stood at 26.8 percent. The program has been enjoying wide popularity throughout the nation with its two segments "Two Days and One Night" and "What Makes a Man."

KBS2 drama “All About Marriage” scored an average mark of 22.5 percent last week, sliding down from second to third place on the chart. Its rating is also a drop from the previous week's 26.5 percent.

Meanwhile, media research company AGB Nielson Media Research also placed “Giant” at No. 1 but with average viewership rating of a slightly lower 29.6 percent.

KBS2 drama “All About Marriage” came in second with an average mark of 27.4 percent followed by SBS drama “The President” with 26.2 percent.

“Giant” dominates TV charts for 7th week

TV series "Giant" [sBS]

SBS TV series “Giant” remained the No.1 choice for viewers of Monday and Tuesday prime time dramas for the seventh consecutive week in a row.

According to findings by National Multimedia Statistics (TNmS), SBS “Giant” ranked first with an average viewership rating of 30.45 percent, making it the second week the drama has maintained its score beyond the 30 percent mark.

MBC TV series “Queen of Reversals” came second on TNmS' chart with an average viewership of 11.8 percent.

The drama, the second season to last year's hit series "Queen of Housewives" starring Kim Nam-joo, has steadily seen its popularity gain since pushing into the double-digit range.

Following in third place was KBS series “Marry me, Mary,” which began its run a week ago, with an average rating of 7.8 percent, a slight improvement from last week’s 6.8 percent but not enough to catch up with the two other competitors.

In contrast, data by research firm AGB Nielson Media Research showed “Giant” was the top drama but less than one percentile short from breaching the 30 percent mark.

Their survey yielded higher marks for the other two dramas however; 14 percent for “Queen of Reversals” and 8.9 percent for “Marry Me, Mary."

"The President" continues to reign Weds & Thurs

SBS drama "The President" [sBS]

SBS drama “The President” remained the top Wednesday and Thursday prime time series this week for the seventh consecutive time.

"The President" ranked first on the survey of research firm Total National Multimedia Research (TNmS) with an average viewership rating of 24.6 percent, the figure only a slight 0.3 percent improvement from last week.

AGB Nielson Media Research said the show scored an average rating of 25.6 percent, dropping from last week's 26.2 percent

KBS series “Fugitive: Plan B" came in second on both charts with an average rating of 13.1 percent according to TNmS' data and 12.4 percent on AGB's poll, lodging results similar from last week.

Coming in last was MBC’s prime time series “Home Sweet Home’ whose rating stood at 5.4 percent and 8.3 percent on TNmS' and AGBs polls, respectively. Its Thursdays episode was pushed back to next week due to the airing of the 2010 Korea Film Awards.

SBS "Giant" continues to stay at No.1 on weekly TV charts

SBS drama "Giant" [sBS]

SBS has placed all three of its prime time dramas on top of the weekly TV chart between November 15 and 21 with "Giant" at the lead of the pack.

Data by National Multimedia Statistics (TNmS) revealed that "Giant" topped the weekly TV chart once again with an average viewership rating of 30.5 percent, remaining the nation's most-watched show for the seventh week in a row.

SBS series “The President,” the ruler amongst Wednesday and Thursday prime time shows, ranked second with an average rating of 24.7 percent.

KBS variety show “Happy Sunday,” the No. 2 show the previous week, slid down to third place with an average rating of 23.5 percent

Other programs that ranked in the top slots of the chart were weekend dramas “All About Marriage (KBS2)” and “Secret Garden (SBS),” weekday series “Smile Again (KBS1)," variety shows “Steel Heart (SBS),” and comedy show “Gag Concert (KBS2).”

Two football matches for the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou of China -- South Korea versus China (Men’s match) and South Korea versus North Korea (Women’s match) -- also took a spot in the top 10 shows.

Figures by AGB Nielson Media Research also yielded similar rankings for the programs with “Giant” topping the list with an average viewership rating of 29.5 percent followed by “All About Marriage with 25.8 percent rating, and “The President” with 25.6 percent rating.

Other programs that made the top 10 were “Happy Sunday,” “Smile Again,” “Steel Heart,” and the same two aforementioned Guangzhou Asiad games.

SBS drama "Giant" remains on top eighth week in a row

SBS drama “Giant” maintained its grip over Monday and Tuesday prime time series for eight weeks straight.

According to data by Total National Multimedia Statistics (TNmS) on Wednesday, “Giant” posted an average viewership rating of 30.45 percent to remain the most-watched show for Mondays and Tuesdays prime time drama this week.

The epic drama starring Lee Bum-soo, Park Sang-min and Hwang Jung-eum, depicts on the harsh business world of the 70s and 80s through the lives of three siblings, separated when young but reunited later to avenge the death of their father.

Statistics by AGB Nielson Media Research yielded an average rating of 29.5 percent for the show this week.

MBC drama “Queen of Reversals,” which came second on TNmS' chart, marked an average rating of 9.2 percent, about a two percent drop from last week while AGB showed the series scored an average mark of 11.4, a decline from last week's 14 percent.

The drama about a husband (Jung Joon-ho) and a wife (Kim Nam-joo) trying to balance work and married life has been on and off the two-digit range for the past few weeks.

KBS series “Marry me, Mary,” staring Moon Geun-young and Jang Keun-suk, came in third, with ratings of 7.1 percent and 7.8 percent on TNmS and AGB's polls, respectively, on Monday.

The drama about a double contractual marriage between a girl and two men, was cancelled on Tuesday and replaced with the broadcaster's special coverage on North Korea’s unexpected shelling of South Korea’s Yeonpyeong Island.

SBS drama "The President" rules Weds & Thurs for 7th week

SBS drama "The President" [sBS]

SBS drama "The President" has topped the Wednesday and Thursday prime time series slot for the seventh week in a row.

The average viewership rating for "The President" stood at 25.5 percent, about one percent higher than that of last week, according to the survey of Total National Multimedia Research (TNmS).

AGB Nielson Media Research also reported a slight improvement for the show, yielding an average mark of 26.9 percent for this week.

The drama, starring top Korean actress Ko Hyun-jung and actor Kwon Sang-woo, revolves around how the nation gives birth to its first female president amid political schemes and scandals.

KBS detective story "Fugitive: Plan B" which came next, scored ratings of 14.3 percent on TNmS' poll and 13.9 percent on AGB's poll for Monday alone, respectively.

Its Tuesday episode got pushed back to next week and the China versus Korea match for Guangzhou Asian Games' female basketball game aired instead.

MBC's "Home Sweet Home," a family drama containing elements of mystery and suspense came last, marking ratings of 6.9 percent on TNmS' survey and 8.6 percent on AGB's chart on Monday.

Its Tuesday portion got rescheduled to next week as well due to the airing of the Guangzhou Asian basketball game.
