seirin, thanks for all the wonderful pictures and clips of Jun Ki's stage greetings for Fly Daddy ! :D He really is gorgeous and handsome...just like I saw him in Seoul, Daehan and CGV cinemas when he appeared with the rest. Although majority were Jun Ki's fans who were present, we cheered and applauded loudly for Lee Moon Shik too because he is the main actor ! Jun Ki was very happy to see his fans' support. :sweatingbullets:

There's more pics for Aug 4th promo pics of him in a black vest. If people want more of those pics along with these just posted, you can just download the link. I'll avoid photo flooding of more promo pics. I'm not sure if he's doing both TaeGuk and Busan on the same day. On mentor, he's only scheduled for FD promo from Aug 2-6.

Ordinary Man Hits the Big Time

200608040009_00.jpg

The soaring popularity of actor Lee Moon-sik is proven by the number of movies in which he recently appeared. He was the lead in "Mapado" released last spring, "Detective Mr. Gong" and "Troublesomes." He even played the male lead in a TV melodrama, "The 101st Proposal," for the first time in his life.

His latest production is the movie "Fly, Daddy, Fly," in which he plays a timid father who learns to box so he can avenge his daughter. "My second son was born on the day shooting for the film started," Lee says. "The movie is about paternity. But I'm a negligent father who can't go home regularly." He lost 12 kg and developed his six-pack for the role. Viewers will understand how much physical pain he suffered when they see him racing a bus and observe his desperate match against a high school champion.

His appeal comes from his ordinary looks and natural, innocent smile. Born in a remote village in Sunchang, North Jeolla Province that only got electricity when he was a sixth grade, the countryman is now a national star. In response to the barbed remark that he seems to capitalize excessively on his image as an ordinary man, he takes a key ring out of his pocket, a gift from his fans. On it are engraved the words (don't forget) "the initial intentions."

Tickets for Film “Fly Daddy” Sold Out before Opening

flydaddylwt0.jpg

Tickets for the upcoming movie “Fly Daddy” have been sold out even before the movie’s opening as moviegoers rushed to buy tickets. The viewers are anxious not to miss the opportunity to see its lead actors, Lee Mun-shik and Lee Jun-ki, who are scheduled to welcome viewers personally on the day of the film’s opening.

The two actors will meet with viewers on August 3, the movie’s opening date, at the Daehan Theater (430 seats) and the Seoul Theater (900 seats). With two weeks to go before the movie’s premiere, fans flocked to book tickets, showing an unprecedented response in domestic box-office history. Tickets that went on sale via the Internet on July 21 were sold out immediately, and box-office sales that began the following day closed in just two hours.

Ardent fans stood in lines from 3 a.m. at the Daehan Theater so as not to miss the two lead actors of “Fly Daddy” introducing the movie in person. Those who missed tickets for the timeslot when the two stars are scheduled to appear onstage were frustrated to learn that all tickets had already been sold out. The announcement of additional stage appearances by the two Lees will likely elicit an equally explosive response from viewers.

”Fly Daddy” is a story about an embattled 39-year-old head of a family who receives special training from a skilled 19-year-old brawler and is reborn as a hero.

Slated to open on August 3, the movie is expected to evoke much laughter from viewers.

Guest nok_cha

just came back from korea on sunday night,

watched fly daddy fly two days in a row.

if you get the opportunity to watch/buy the movie, i HIGHLY recommend it.

i'll admit that the first time i watched it, my reason was to see lee junki on the screen. however, the whole movie moved me from tears to smiles and laughing.

the father's experience, as well as his efforts in the movie are extremely touching as he displays that a father is always a father.

to avoid spoiling the plot for those planning to watch the movie, i'll simply say there were parts that many viewers would find close to their own hearts. however, there were cute things in the movie that cheered up the audience, making it a well rounded and excellent movie.

i happened to save the movie plot paper that i got at the movie theater. i'll post it up as soon as i can.

its all in korean, though... but i'll try and put the best translations under the pages that i can manage..

its got some scenes from the movie, as well as a close up shot of both lee mun shik and lee junki

‘Daddy’ Can’t Fly Beyond Expectation

By Kim Tae-jong

Staff Reporter

ensor200608031700240dad1mj7.jpg

Lee Joon-ki, left, stars with Lee Moon-sik in “Fly, Daddy, Fly,” a local film adapted from a hit Japanese novel.

The Japanese hit novel "Fly, Daddy, Fly'' is acclaimed for its witty portrayal of the sad situation of an ordinary man, who struggles to win back his status as a respectable father.

But the new domestic film "Fly, Daddy, Fly,'' an adaptation of the Japanese novel, portrays only superficial charm without capturing the core elements of the original story.

Directed by Cho Jong-tae, the film revolves around Chang Ka-pil (played by Lee Moon-sik) in his 40s, who leads an ordinary life with his adorable wife and their 17-year-old daughter.

He faces a crisis when his daughter is severely beaten by a high school student boxer from a rich family and he finds there is nothing he can do.

To prove that he is not a coward and will do anything for his family, he decides to take revenge and physically beat up his daughter's tormentor. For the seemingly impossible task, he asks Ko Sung-suk (by Lee Joon-ki), a rebellious high school student with talent for fighting, to train him.

The film attracted media attention and the public's interest mainly because the nation's heartthrob Lee Joon-ki was cast in the film.

He emerges from the image of his previous role of an effeminate court jester in the country's most viewed film of all time, "King and the Clown,'' by playing a physically much stronger and tougher role. But he fails to make a strong impression as he did in the first film.

As the film fails to explain why Ko has a rebellious personality, unlike the original book, Lee's character appears only to act "cool'' with many pretentious gestures.

The original character in the novel grows up as a Korean-Japanese in Japan, and experiences discrimination that alienates him from society. But in the film there are few clues as to why Ko has become an outsider.

What bothers audiences most is the impression that they are watching a two-hour commercial starring Lee. His character wears clothes and shoes of the same brand, unnecessarily highlighted, and the brand logos appear too often in the film.

But if you can lower your expectations about the "pretty'' actor, you may find fun elements in the film.

As the story gradually unfolds, it actually turns out to be a movie focusing on actor Lee Moon-sik, who successfully portrays an ordinary fainthearted office worker with a strong affection for his family.

His role is fun to watch, and at the same time makes you think about ordinary fathers who desperately struggle for their families in countless small battles in everyday life.

yup, saw that review around. It was only one reviewer who reviewed the story, so its not objective enough. Also the story plot was changed slightly from the Japanese version. I don't know if he was suppose to be a Japanese-Korean in the film, but his parents divorced so it might explain why SK acted so cold and rebellious.

As for the brand name, the film was probably sponsored by Everlast. Its like James Bond who kept showing pepsi or coke in the background once cuz they help sponsor the movie. Anyhow, the movie is not focused on Lee Jun Ki. The movie is focused on Lee Mun Shik. He is the main actor. When Junki was casted in Fly Daddy last year, he was still an unknown actor. Giving him such a big role in the movie was already a big gamble for them.

Jun Ki as Ko Seungsuk...he's cool alright ! :D

seirin, I totally agree with you regarding that reporter's review. He mentioned phrases like "what bothers the audience", this was just his impression and he presumed all who watched it felt like him ? Anyway it's his opinion because I've seen the movie 4 times and nothing bothers me at all, not Jun Ki, not the brand name or even the plot of the movie. LMS as the main role is excellent and Jun Ki's role as his mentor and coach is sometimes funny but overall great acting on his part too. :D

I will definitely buy the original DVD when it is released for sale !

I'll admit it, that's what drew my attention to the film at first. But isn't that how most movies/dramas get started off as? It's not continue you hear a good review about it by a person who's seen it then you consider watching it. After reading the summary of the film, it drew me more on wanting to watch it. Speaking of which, we can start seeing in clubboxes hopefully near Christmas? Thanksgiving?
