  1. Hi guys

Glad to find the forum....I was almost going to drop it but glad I didn't....the story has now picked up in episode 5 and 6....I think dragging out the reveal over four episodes was a mistake....it should have started at end of episode 2. I really can't stand Min Seo always butting in. It's not necessary and it is getting tired troupe. I loved the tender moments we got in episode 6 where Yura went to get her Oppa because she was scared for him. I don't think Min Seo is Tae Gu's...I think Yura left perhaps more than decades ago, started over...Tae Gu only found her now and from flashback it is clear, he has some feelings for her. There's clearly some larger plot that is bubbling under the surface with this organization of covert snipers. I think the writing is the biggest issue, all these characters and very hard to connect to them because of lack of information. Anyway, I think the ratings will pick up slightly as well but the show could have been a lot better if the writers tried.

  2. @Sleepy Owl I know why she killed herself in the webtoon and that doesn't have much connection to Returning Ladies theory.....it might have been a rumor, war is chaotic and it might have made things complicated for her family. It definitely played a part in her torment leading up to her finally taking her life. Also are you sure Returning ladies had no yangban women because as far as I had read, it had become an issue for nobility at some point that they wanted at least one king to allow divorce in such cases. The king denied it because he was afraid than it'd be impossible to have the ladies return back to Joseon if he granted it. I read this a long, long time ago so not sure about details.

    Spoiler

She killed herself because her son died and she couldn't bear the pain and wanted to reunite with her son. Joon Gil was not in webtoon. This story isn't following that part 100%.

  3. I read the Returning Ladies of Joseon theory on twitter and given Koo Ryeon is from around when Qing invaded Joseon, it makes sense. It would explain why she was pariah although she was a Yangban and why Joon Gil was killing people for being disrespectful. Joon Gil definitely loved her but she couldn't bear with it after their child died. That's why Joon Gill hates people who take their own lives.

  4. Interesting start.....I know at this point Eun Pyo seems most green but I guess as we get a peek into this den of tiger moms, we'll understand where exactly are each mother we see are green. I have to admit Jin Ha is weird to me. Why is she so clingy about Eun Pyo....Eun Pyo was cold as ice to her and she kept intruding in her space. Yes, I too felt like she may have been in love with Eun Pyo....that would be a good story. Louis is a sore spot for Eun Pyo but I felt like it has more to do with how she met him years later. She lost a job opportunity, is adjusting to a new life centered around her children with a part of her source of confidence having been ripped away from her....isn't looking her best, isn't financially solvent and nobody wants to meet their ex and rival that way. Anyway, it'd be interesting to see how it all unravels from here.

  5. The ending was cruel to Young Ro. .....yes I know they couldn't unite them but it was just all around cruel to her. She lost everyone. I have so many questions. Obviously there was big time jump because Young Ro would have been arrested at first....most would be arrested. So, the time between the end of hostage crisis to what we saw at the end was a 2 to 5 years gap. Where are the 207 girls, does Young Ro have any family or friends by her, how did Boon Ok and Pi go back to their old jobs, how did the NIS agents survive it all....is Soo Ho's family safe? We'll never know, I guess. The ending was bitter sweet and well done in a way but I just feel it came at severe emotional loss to Young Ro. I wish we had seen her years later with her husband and kids happy, yes Soo Ho would be a there in her heart as a scar, memory, hurt but I was hoping to see Young Ro get a new lease at life.

Lastly, congratulations on airing it till the end to JTBC. I still am going to give the writing team an overall C- grade. The Cast A+ but not the writing. There were flashes of great moments shot beautifully but they had too much going on, too little logical explanation and shoddy execution.

About that hat! I have a theory that IF Bun Ok is actually siding with them, then her getting dressed up could be a show of superiority. Drunk off power and trying to exude it in any form possible.

I already think this show is haphazardly written, even without all the controversy this show has major issues with writing and pacing....if they pull something absurd with her wearing hat, I'll drop it. I didn't sign up for Makjang with this.

That would be a good twist. Though I would’ve preferred Boon Ok’s sad family story and the way the writer gave a sympathy arc for her character’s attitude. It would not blend well if she is indeed a spy too. I don’t understand what timeline the flashback you’re referring to because Dr Kang is wearing the same clothes? It looks like they were at the chapel inside the dorm. And if Boon Ok was really a spy, I don’t understand why would she blow her cover so easily when Dr Kang had the upper hand and the situation was under her control? Any theories?

They could both be spies with different circumstances or set of instructions. Maybe Dr. Kang is blackmailing Boon Ok with her sisters life on line.  They both look clean, rested....either tgis is flash back or flash forward. I can understand Boon Ok changing clothes but a hat added to in midst of hostage drama seems absurd.

From one of the pictures, CY has her hand on BO’s shoulder and she looks smug about it. Maybe she’s just pretending to be on CY’s side? I don’t think they’re sisters though but if they are, that would be such a twist! I’m not sure if she has the money bag though, I mean, wouldn’t that be obvious if the bag was missing? Unless she just took some of the money and not all of it. I was wondering what she did when she found the walk-ie talkie. Or who she would contact.

Its a flashback because look at Cheong Ya's forehead....no wound...and look at Boon Ok's hair, well put together....I mean the only way this would work if its a flashback....I am guessing she was put in the dorm to keep an eye on Su Ho or maybe Young Ro. She did make sure Young Ro couldn't leave. That in retrospect wasn't just her jealousy. I am guessing Cheong Ya and Boon Ok needed to make sure Su Ho can be controlled....and Young Ro is both a political pawn and Su Ho's weakness...it'd actually make all her annoying, over the top behavior perfect sense. She was moderator of the situation and nobody realized it. That'd be a neat twist.

I hate to say this but this is also another bomb shell story line that would not be well accepted by domestic audiences. During the same time period, back in Jan 1987 a rising entrepreneur from South Korea murdered his wife, a South Korean named Suzy Kim (Kim Ok Boon)....he first tried to seek asylum with North Korea, he was denied the request, then returned to South Korea. He claimed North Korean's killed Kim Ok Boon after she had failed to kidnap him and she was a spy. The NIS found the story was fake soon enough but took money from him and used it as a propaganda tool at that time to help the regime. Yoon Tae Sik was finally sentenced to 15 years in prison in 2002.

Please somebody explain why the writer is doing this? It wasn't necessary at all.

It is so intense right now, I hope things get better soon wow.

Right? I am surprised they ramped it up so quickly, no? I am very, very disappointed with the way things have gone down this week. Narrative wise, it makes 0 sense to me. We never got the build up for the romance. Why should I be invested on their romance or feelings when the foundation is so flimsy?

  10. Min San Woon isn't the wife. The wife he did not love. He was duty bound to marry her....caring =/= loving. My theory is Hwal's path crossed with Min Sang Woon in another life as well before his birth. The curse wasn't explained, why was he cursed? Bulgasal while dying said, you did it again? So what did he do again? Why did the dying Min Sang Woon/Yeon say she despised him? I believe we'll get those answers slowly.

  11. Gwangju uprising is an incredibly sad, sentive even in South Korean democratic movement. Student leaders were accused of being North Korean spy to torture them to death. This was the propaganda used to curb the movement back then. The male leas being a spy feeds into that propaganda and that is why emotions are running high. People lost loved ones brutally to these events....I still don't understand why they couldn't change things after the first wave of backlash. It just feels like a lot of this was avoidable. International fans can scream all they want but if somebody disrespected my ir their country or its history especially the sensitive ones, I and they would react the same way. I just hope they have good reason to be so stubborn about this thing.

  12. Spoiler

So, the twin sister, she was the Bulgasal 600 years ago and had the sword wound scar.....she said, this is my last chance to kill the Bulgasal because I won't be reincarnated again. So, then what does that make her twin sister. She can sense the monsters too. So how is this thing working? Was the soul split when twins were born or is there two people and a lot more to this story we haven't seen yet. The Bulgasal 600 years ago said why would you add more bad karma and I despise you. What did she mean by that. Hwal wasn't marked or curses by accident so even the story that we saw has to have backstory. Why was Hwal cursed, how did his mother know he was curses to the point she killed herself. So many questions, so little answers.

    I am hooked.
