While waiting eagerly for the next eps, I took a look at the press con again and gosh, the PD seems to be really in awe of the chemistry between SHK and PBG!

When the PD was asked how he cast the 2 leads, he said SHK and PBG came to his mind because both are able to express their emotions extremely well and that he has no other actors in mind at all. When asked about their chemistry, he said that it's so awesome that if viewers view the couple's chemistry through the eyes of the cameraman at the scene of their acting, they're likely to be shocked by SHK's and PBG's superb chemistry! PD said that it's the FIRST time that he had seen such awesome/superb chemistry! He regrets that he's not able to convey everything (all of their interactions) into the drama. He really looked like he wanted to hug both of them....lol. He kept looking at them when talking about their chemistry.

When some reporters mentioned that there were reservations about SHK and PBG taking up their roles due to SJK connection ie some fans might not be able to accept their couplehood....the PD was so confident of our OTP's chemistry that he said once the drama starts, that feeling/reservation (about SJK connection) will disappear completely! He emphasized that whatever is the reality outside the drama should not pose an issue at all.

I could see SHK looking shy when PBG said that she's beautiful in every aspect (warm-heart, caring etc). It's remarkable that PBG had to look at SHK for affirmation when he said that they've become closer now, and SHK nodding and smiling in return. I think PBG is being respectful when he asked SHK for her thoughts on that. My thinking is that he did it so as not to appear too presumptuous on his part, that they have become closer through the drama interactions.

About the age gap, the PD said that it's not the main focus; rather, the main point of the drama is about how  two very different persons managed to make sacrifices and work on their differences to make their relationship work, showing each other their thoughts and emotions and encouraging one another along the way. Rather than having deliberate ways to bring out certain feelings, the PD said that he would go by his lead couple's interactions and chemistry and that would lead to a more natural outcome.

Summary : The PD loves both PBG and SHk....he kept looking at both of them.   :D

The message is to focus on the warm, touching and romantic love story.

If I read this summary before I start watching Encounter / Boyfriend, I am one of people who can not believe that Park Bo Gum and Song Hye Kyo will have chemistry on screen.

How can the lead actor and the lead actress with the 12-year age gap and relationship thru SJK will make audiences believe in their character of couple in melodrama?!?
At that time, I read this news with presumption that PD might be too confident on his choice. My wall was very high and I firmly intended not to watch Encounter, not even a single episode.

However, I read this Press Conference summary again after I have watched Encounter 8 episodes with keep on rerunning, I read with nodding and smiling to much more than agree and realize what PD meant on the Press Conference.

Thank you PD who is very confident in Park Bo Gum and Song Hye Kyo and dare to insist this casting even the preliminary response might be strongly objected.

Thank you any presumptions and prejudices which made difficulties for Park Bo Gum and Song Hye Kyo till they both have attempted much more in order to overcome such massive obstacles. Audiences can feel Park Bo Gum's and Song Hye Kyo's endeavor to survive with their utmost acting.

Is that picture with KJH recent? Would this mean he is back with the PR team?

The dentist stated the date of Food Supoort on December 10, it might have already been on air in ep.7-8. They did not spoil the Encounter drama.

However, Kim Jin and Hyuk and Cha Soo Hyun in New Year Party dress at Subway  store has spoiled audiences where they will go after ep8. :phew:

I wonder if people mostly use Boyfriend in searching or posting about this drama instead of Encounter. That drop in The most Buzzworthy drama is sad.

Your notice is interesting because there are two names of Encounter and Boyfriend to search and talk about.

Park Bo Gum and Song Hye Kyo has got no.1 and no.2 most Buzzworthy actor/actress for 5 consecutive weeks. :)

Song Hye Kyo has got 2 new endorsements.

Park Bo Gum’s several endorsements have released new CFs.

Park Bo Gum has got 1st rank with 24.6% as the star students want to spend Christmas Eve with.

For December Drama Actor Brand Reputation Ranking by The Korean Business Research Institute,

    no.1 Park Bo Gum 14.8%

    no.2 Song Hye Kyo 13.3%:)

For the Korean Entertainment which has had many dramas and many actors/actresses for Korean audiences and international audiences to choose watching, each drama might have different genre and target group of audiences,

the success of Encounter/Boyfriend is very gorgeous.

This Encounter/Boyfriend has been portrayed with fascinating script, artistic photograph/filming, and most importantly splendid acting by Park Bo Gum and Song Hye Kyo to let fans be proud of... what could we ask more!

already re-watch again n again n again until I lost count..

Your comment reminded myself too. I am very picky with watching drama. In 2018, Encounter is my first darma which I have not dropped in the early or mid way. Plus, I rerun Encounter to gradually enjoy this artistic project.

By the way, I am wondering what will be on air this Wednesday when TVN mentioned Encounter ep.7-8.

Park Bo Gum, Song Hye Kyo, And “SKY Castle” Continue Their Streak Of Most Buzzworthy Actors And Drama

    Dec 24, 2018 by C. Hong

On December 24, Good Data corporation released a list of which dramas and actors had received the most public attention from December 17 to December 23.

The list is compiled through an analysis of 35 dramas in the areas of news articles, blog posts, community forums, social media, and video clip view counts.

JTBC’s “SKY Castle” ranked No. 1 again for the second consecutive week and increased its percentage of attention, from 14.73 percent last week to 17.96 percent this week. Moreover, its cast members also ranked among the buzzworthy actors of the week, from Yeom Jung Ah (No. 5), Lee Tae Ran (No. 7), and Kim Bo Ra (No. 8).

tvN’s “Memories of the Alhambra” showed steady growth for three weeks and this week overtook “Encounter” for the second spot. Hyun Bin and Park Shin Hye also took No. 3 and 6 respectively on the actors chart.

tvN’s “Encounter” fell to fourth place this week due to a competitive time slot, while SBS’s “The Last Empress” rose to third. “The Last Empress” showed impressive standings in the video clip view count category, with three clips from the drama gaining over 400,000 views. Some of that buzz, however, was due to the news this week that Shin Sung Rok sustained an injury on set and allegations of extreme working conditions.

Meanwhile, Park Bo Gum and Song Hye Kyo topped the list of buzzworthy actors again this week for the fourth week in a row.

  7. 6 Dramatic Moments From Episodes 7 And 8 Of “Encounter” That We’re Not Over

    Dec 24, 2018

Encounter” has continued to be the talk of the town this past week, especially considering that epic moment at the end of episode 8 that a lot of us were anticipating. There was a lot of wondering in terms of when the big moment would happen, and after several dramatic events throughout the episodes, it finally came. And we’re still not over it! Here’s a look at six dramatic moments from episodes 7 and 8!

Warning: spoilers for Episodes 7 and 8 of “Encounter” below.

    1. When the director tells Jin Hyeok he’s getting sent to Sokcho

As a result of Soo Hyun revealing that she’s in a “some” relationship with Jin Hyeok, he gets transferred out of Seoul to Sokcho. In this particular scene, Director Choi is telling Jin Hyeok that this is the least he can do to protect Soo Hyun from further harm. Jin Hyeok, being the sweet guy that he is, complies and decides that it’s best not to tell Soo Hyun and to just follow orders.

    Spoiler

    encounter-52.png

    encounter-6.png

    Spoiler

    encounter-71.png

Director Choi being a puppet to Taegyeong was pretty annoying. So when he meets with Jin Hyeok to tell him that he has to move to Sokcho, we’re not only devastated but totally upset that Jin Hyeok agrees to do it! It’s pretty unpredictable from this point on as we don’t know if he’s going to get sent away or if Soo Hyun is going to find out and rescue him. Regardless, the drama is getting more and more dramatic.

    2. Soo Hyun coming back to the hotel after hearing news about Jin Hyeok

Soo Hyun’s short responses to Jo Hye In when she tells her over the phone that Jin Hyeok is being transferred to Sokcho is boss. Her nonchalant demeanor and calmness shows just how much control she has over her feelings. She doesn’t lose her cool. It’s a dramatic moment that is totally owned by Soo Hyun and the confidence in which she responds to this news is powerful.

    Spoiler

    songhyekyo-encounter.pngsonghyekyo-encounter-1.png

And when she goes back to the company, the charisma she exudes is so respectable. We can feel the anger that she feels for Director Choi and are anticipating her confrontation with him. Can we just mention how cool she looked when she walked back into her company?

    Like, such a BOSS.

    Spoiler

    encounter7.gif

    encounter-17.gif

    encounter-24.gif

During her confrontation with Director Choi, we feel the tension in the air, but she totally owns the conversation and room, making Director Choi second guess his decision to go behind Soo Hyun’s back and betray her. Her passive aggressive threat to him totally had us cheering. She’s scary, but she’s not going down without a fight.

    3. Jung Woo Seok telling Soo Hyun that he likes her

This is a messy relationship. Woo Seok is married to Soo Hyun, fakes having an affair to get a divorce, and is now trying to win Soo Hyun’s heart again. I don’t know about you, but this guy’s thinking has me totally confused. I’m not sure why he had to go so far as to fake an affair to divorce Soo Hyun, but alright. One things for sure is that Woo Seok oozes royalty, wealth, and he’s owning this part. So when he drops his pride and tells Soo Hyun how he feels, it’s pretty intense. We’re loving how this is officially developing into a love triangle. The more drama the better, I say!

    Spoiler

    encounter-23.pngencounter-31.png

I’m not sure how to feel about Woo Seok yet and we’re not sure if he’s technically the antagonist in this series. He does love Soo Hyun and doesn’t seem to like Jin Hyeok (obviously), but he hasn’t done anything to sabotage their relationship… yet. But the part where he tells Soo Hyun that he loves her is obviously a step into the direction of there being some intense drama in the episodes to come. I’m curious to see if he’s going to be a bad ex-husband who gets in the way of Soo Hyun and Jin Hyeok, or if he’s going to be a good ex-husband who just loves his ex-wife from a distance. Let’s hope for the latter!

    4. Manager Nam showing up in Sokcho

After Jin Hyeok gets shipped off to Sokcho, he ends up with a job at the front desk, a position in which he was obviously demoted to. We’re upset that he won’t be at the masquerade event that he planned and even more upset that he’s so far from his family and Soo Hyun. So when Manager Nam comes to the rescue, I was high key cheering and fist-pumping away.

    Spoiler

    encounter-.pngencounter-15.png

This particular scene felt very Cinderella-y, which I loved. The fairy godmother, aka Manager Nam, comes and rescues Jin Hyeok to bring him to the ball. He even brings him a full suit and a mask! It’s a total fairy tale and so romantic! I had a huge grin on my face during this entire time knowing that he could go to the event that he planned, and more importantly, see Soo Hyun. I loved every aspect of this part, especially Manager Nam. Where would their relationship be without him?!

    5. Jin Hyeok grabbing Soo Hyun’s hand

    Spoiler

    encounter-43.png

Once Jin Hyeok and Woo Seok are at the masquerade, we know that both of them are looking for Soo Hyun. So when somebody grabs her hand, we’re left wondering who it is until the very last minute. It’s an intense moment for this love triangle and although we kind of feel sorry for the ex-husband, we’re rooting for Jin Hyeok to take off his mask and sweep Soo Hyun off her feet.

    6. The kiss

After Jin Hyeok takes Soo Hyun aside and reveals his face, she’s touched and surprised that he’s standing in front of her. They’re both smiling at each other and we can sense what’s coming. I don’t know about you, but all I could think about was Song Joong Ki glaring at the screen from a distance.

Despite this, it wasn’t as awkward or cringe-worthy as it could have been.

    Spoiler

    encounter6.gif

    encounter-16.gif

    encounter-23.gif

It did set up for some dramatic moments that we know are going to come in the next episode. It raises various questions about whether anyone saw the two kissing or if there’s going to be more scandalous news that exposes the two being at the party. Regardless, we know there’s going to be some more obstacles ahead that we have to brace ourselves for. Oh, the drama!

  8. Behind the Scenes Encounter Ep7-8

    Tight Hug,

    KJH pated CSH's head,

    KJH kissed CSH's forehead,

KJH stared CSH and CSH smiled back.

    :wub::heart::love:

and the last scene is Happy New Year from Park Bo Gum.

During Welfie, it is cute that Song Hye Kyo started to make her face boo and pig first and Park Bo Gum followed her

... Park Bo Gum and Song Hye Kyo, haha cutie and comfortably close after shooting for a couple months from day to night time.

  9. For Christmas, I spend time reruning Encounter/Boyfriend, the first time I watched to read the subtitle, rerun to enjoy beautiful scripts, and appreciate Park Bo Gum&Song Hye Kyo's amazing acting. There have been more and more reruning to watch KJH's and CSH's gesture and facial expressions.

When I rerun Encounter Ep1 after finish watching ep8, I found out more dimensions to feel surprised for detailed acting, thorough script, and spendid photography, Encounter/Boyfriend is like a piece of gorgeous art indeed.

I found that KJH and CSH showed their boyfriend and girlfriend  here and there; for example:

    -  When KJH asked CSH why she has not used his BD lipserum yet and convinced with spring reason.

    Lipsserum1.jpg

    -  When CSH asked why KJH has not used her necktie and asked him to move the existing one and tied her necktie for KJH.

    necktie-1.jpg

    -  CSH called KJH that she wanna meet him at his PR division. You know what I mean boyfriend and girlfriend might meet each other's collegues sometimes in order to see what she/he's going on there and whom he/she is working with.

    PR-team.jpg

    -  KJH asked CSH about oppa's care, CSH guessed it might be protection but KJH showed his jealousy by asking why it is not support (to support sister with her boyfriend), rather than protection. (to protect sister from boyfriend)

    oppa.jpg

With CSH, KJH speaks from his mind to her. For example, when he insisted that he will post at new location by tomorrow, he mentioned that his concern for this reloation is he can not run over to meet CSH when he missed her as he used to do, this is what he really did to measure the distance between Seoul and Sokcho when he was informed to relocate from such spy man.

    Spoiler

    distance.jpg

    miss-you.jpg

By the way, I noticed from social network that due to strong worth of mouth and great response from medias/SNS, there are much more audiences who will spend Christmas and new year by starting to watch Encounter/Boyfriend and is screaming about KJH&CSH.

For the audiences who have already watched, they are starting rerun.

As a fans of this Encounter and Park Bo Gum (also appreciate Song Hye Kyo from her acting in Encounter), I am glad to realize that ther are  much more audiences to enjoy this artistic drama

  10. I truly understand why KJH has to omit info about CSH and I think he has done white lie for his family properly.

In the scene he ran to CSH from Seoul to Sukso to have breakfast in early morn, he told CSH that he have behaved in good shape for a big while but he broke his rule to meet her straightaway because of missing.

Even KSH is in love with CSH, he still has duty to be a good son. KSH knows what his parents, who have worked very hard for decades to feed the whole family, want to see their son not to be.

Why KJH has to hurt his parents’ heart with truth that he is in love with a older, divorced from chaebeol family which still actively try to manipulate CSH’s life, daughter of a politician, and CEO of his workplace...worse situation that his love life has already impacted his work life to be relocated to far away from such powerful CSH’s ex-husband family. (as his mom is wondering why he was promptly relocated)

Frankly speaking in the real world with normal life’s standard in Korea or in Asian countries, parents are unlikely to accept their son’s lover as CSH.

I agreed with KJH’s choice of a good son to exclude fact about his love life to his parents, at least for now.

Statistics might be able to speak out loud than keyboard hustler/ manipulator.

Park Bo Gum’s and Song Hye Kyo’s great acting is one of crucial factors to create Kim Jin Hyuk and Cha Soo Hyun in audiences’ mind with amazing response and splendid reaction.

Encounter actually not the first Noona romance drama. Yeah the other drama have manly lead male who love to smile, but with six pack abs and full with hot kiss (maybe this is what they mean as sexual appeal), and maybe they end up comparing this character with Jinhyuk who totally have different charm. I think its more like Jinhyuk not their type. He's more cheerful, polite, too gentle, and doesnt have six pack :phew:. but we know that aegyo work better with Cha SooHyun than six pack.

Tho its annoying they blaming PBG's acting.  I'm sure PBG asking the writer before acted as Jinhyuk.  He always trying to understand his character first, thats why he got so much hard time in his prev drama.

And actually I saw many reviews who kept comparing Jinhyuk's character with his prev character.
    Like :

"Choi taek more uniqe than Jinhyuk"

"I love Lee young more than Jinhyuk"

Jinhyuk actually not PBG best character (so I understand why even PBG fans not fond with JH) but its rare to find this kind of comments with other actors, so I take it as compliment.

Sometimes I found other actor acted like kid too, but their mature's face just save them. PBG have boyish look, he even still look good when got paired with underage girl. so when the writer give him this character he will look like “virginal schoolboy” (tho I still found him manly in his boyish look). but TVN is so active editing JH's video. so I believe this is what the writer want him to be.

Dont forget this is reversed drama, the woman is the one who came to pick him up when they're going on date and the one who have money and power. this kind of thing of course made his image 'not so manly'

And actually this is the reason why I'm so in love with this drama, I love strong woman's character  (isnt this the reason why SHK taking this drama?)  tho not everyone like it. Some of people prefer woman with cheerfull character, so ice princess CSH will counted as boring for them. and of course a rich male lead with power. And as male lead JH is too polite for their standar

Could I add to your comments?

In my opinion, I notice as follows:

    1. criticizing the hallyu stars with many fans around the world might be more enjoyable for hater/keyboard hustle because they hoped to have much more readers.

    2. Typical formula drama might be some of audiences’ favorite ones and it might be some fans’ preference because it is easier to watch. I used to be one of them.

However, after I watch Encounter, I totally agreed with the selection.

As an actor, Park Bo Gum always choose the challenging roles for his acting career. This time to portray not the typical hero and cool male lead but Kim Jin Hyuk is lively and extraordinarily significant to let Cha Soo Hyun  dare to live her own life with happiness.

Song Hye Kyo chose the role of Cha Soo Hyun who has kept her expressions inside and behave, therefore, she has had to act with bottled-up emotions. Her lead female is not outgoing and extrovert to show typical female lead.

I think Park Bo Gum or Song Hye Kyo no need to just act in only the typical male lead or female lead in order to be in the familiar formula and safe zone anymore. They both have wealth, reputation, and hallyu position in the entertainment business in Korea and in many countries.

Park Bo Gum and Song Hye Kyo can climb higher level of the pyramid of success as an professional actor/actress with stimulating roles. Their fans can be much more proud of their choice when watching PBG&SHK portray their KJH&CSH to exist in audiences’ eyes.

    Encounter Episode 8 Review

    written by thoughtsramble

    Spoiler

    vlcsnap_error903.jpg?w=840

Had to weigh in on this one mid-point! Also because Kiss Happened!

After 8 episodes, I’ve decided that this is the kind of drama that I don’t click on immediately or actively anticipate. However, once I start on the episode for that week, I can’t stop till I finish both. Because the leads’ performance IS amazing and just entrances me. Every shot is nailed to perfection – for example, I cannot get over how Song Hye Kyo tears up slowly behind the camera,

    vlcsnap_error952.jpg

and how at the last second, even Park Bo Gum’s eyes are also shining with tears.

    vlcsnap_error346

Song Hye Kyo’s and Park Bo Gum’s eyes are incredibly clear and you can see the emotions build up slowly, which is goosebumps-inducing and mind-blowing. This is a drama that can only be carried by good actors.Plot-wise for this episode, I like it that Jin Hyuk demands so firmly to be sent away, for this is him protecting Soo Hyun in his own way. They are such an innocent pairing, where Jin Hyuk is just doing the best he can to bring some light to Soo Hyun and that’s rather sweet. They literally go through the motions of holding hands, gazing at scenery –

    Spoiler

    vlcsnap_error369

    Spoiler

    vlcsnap_error249

hugging (both back and front but oh dang, that back hug got my heart in jitters)

    Spoiler

    vlcsnap_error517

a climatic reveal (I love it that there was a Havana party set up, almost like Jin Hyuk’s private present for Soo Hyun)

    vlcsnap_error451vlcsnap_error393

before finally kissing. This is old-school courtship you all!

    Spoiler

    vlcsnap_error907

I am also happy that there’s some comic relief in the second pairing between Secretary Jang and Dae Chan – because oh goodness, this couple is hilarious in the way they keep rubbing each other the wrong way.

    Spoiler

    vlcsnap_error239
    vlcsnap_error000

And I’m quite sure something’s happening between Sun Joo and Driver Nam. Cute people!

    Spoiler

    vlcsnap_error625

Meaning-wise, there’re quite a few symbolic objects scattered throughout the drama. Placed next to the desk, the mirror represents a constant reminder and active questioning. It’s not a mirror that she passes by occasionally, but one that accompanies for most of her waking moments.

    Spoiler

    vlcsnap_error751

And in the times when she feels the most conflicted, it’s often the Soo Hyun in the mirror which is in focus because I believe the mirror represents what she wants to do the most. Her inner world.

    Spoiler

    vlcsnap_error395

There’s also that big painting in front of her where it’s just a girl and a big tree. I always thought that painting represented her inner loneliness.

    Spoiler

    vlcsnap_error931

The mask that Soo Hyun wears at the end has its mouth patched over and honestly, that feels to me very suffocating. The mask seems almost as an allusion to the life Soo Hyun has led thus far – breathe and say no more than what is needed, and only use your eyes to observe. But it is Jin Hyuk who allows her to remove her mask and be who she really is – also, not sure if overthinking this but Jin Hyuk’s mask is that of a knight right?

    Spoiler

    vlcsnap_error156

I do genuinely like the second lead, I like how his real intentions are shown to us rather early on and that it still came in the form of a twist somewhat – his heart for Soo Yeon was sincere and you can see that he loves her just from the way he talks or thinks about her. It’s a pity that he’s in a damned position right from the start simply because of who he is.

    Spoiler

    vlcsnap_error793

At the heart of it though, I do think this is a spin on a very classic korean-drama fairytale. I might even venture to say that it’s just a fairytale. But don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the turning of genders on its head; how Jin Hyuk is the one who gets fetched to the ball, given presents (the mask) from his fairy godfather i.e Driver Nam, how she’s the one that’s high up and royal while he’s the normal one, how he’s the one who gets chased away. But that ooh, the evil stepmother in all stories, is still the evil mother (in-law) here. And it all works because it wasn’t just a switching around of a royal female and a poor male, but some cliche scenes of an evil step-mother slapping the female lead is replaced with a cold, modern insulting session.

The progression of the story is beautiful and I love to see how Soo Hyun slowly starts breaking out of the mould the world has set for her. Also, graphics in the intro and outro are DARN cool, I wonder who is the illustrator?? I just love how the graphics in the intro shows us what is going to happen throughout the episode and how the outro shows the ending. Here, EP8’s intro shows the two leads passing each other by – which is probably the storyline of how they had to part when Jin Hyuk was sent away for work.

    Spoiler

    vlcsnap_error839

But the ending shows them kissing, which is exactly what happened at the end of episode 8.

    Spoiler

    vlcsnap_error863

Eager to see how the second half pans out, if only just to see the beautiful leads’ beautiful acting.

    CSH and KJH

    Spoiler

In addition to selling Encounter to more than 100 countries, sponsorships continue supporting here and there.

That’s why pairing of hallyu stars as Park Bo Gum and Song Hye Kyo can ensure the revenue and returns even investment cost > USD 18 million for this artistic project.

In addition to the fact that Park Bo Gum and Song Hye Kyo have focused on detailed acting and put all creation to this come-back project after a couple years break... dream come true for Production house(Bon Factory), Scriptwriter, PD, Casts, and Crews.

    First Impressions: Encounter

I don't think I could have envisioned two better actors for the roles since Song Hye-Kyo has an eloquence to her mannerisms and speech while Park Bo-Gum is a bright personality to begin with and truly does give off the 'boyfriend' vibe. I'll admit to having apprehensions about the pairing but my worries vanished within the first episode.

I also enjoy the drama for being thought provoking, forming a ladder for the romance to climb on since I've seen my fair share of melo-romances that have given us one too many aggressive male leads and women who are meant to be nothing more than emotional tools to remedy the imbalance in a male protagonist's life. So I applaud TvN for ending the year with a drama that's more sophisticated and self-aware of drama tropes and conventions even with the romantic cliches presented here. The show manages to bypass typical material that's been reused and reformatted over and over again.

After binging plenty of episodes, I can definitely say this drama is on my weekly watchlist because of the dreamy encounter in Cuba to the bittersweet story that follows afterwards.

Thank you so much for bringing this article here, the writer can write as my thought esp. the blue letter mentioned.

Initially, I had thought that the OTP might part at the end of the drama, both of them walking away with their cherished memories and having grown thanks to the experience of having loved each other. However, given how the story is developing, I don't think this drama is going to have a sad ending any more. It seems more aimed at showing how they overcome their various obstacles while also getting to know each other better and falling in love.

I suppose what also makes me think this is that the OTP while having to deal with opposition and various issues, they're both single, without terminal illnesses, or really any elements that might make it totally makjang. So, there is no reason why they couldn't negotiate their various obstacles to ultimately pledge their love and spend their future together. There is the issue of societal approbation, but both of them seem to care more about each other than anything like that.

My opinion anyway. I hope I'm not wrong. :)

Besides, JH and SH just look so beautiful together.

One thing that I'm pretty sure of, though, SH will not end up with her ex-hubby. SH will either end up with JH, or she'll end up alone, but being strong in her own self, either way. Poor ex-hubby, but I still hope that he's able to escape his own prison as well.

@stroppyse  My opinion about OTP, ending and ex-husband are as same as yours.

@beepbeep  i totally could relate your post.  i still could not convince some of bogum's fan to watch this drama.  Since they are not promoting at all,  i have to come out from my shell and retweet / post pictures  etc. i have not necessary to active in social media during MDBC, reply.  there were lots of his fan will write in soompi and social media.  As @NongpeeP said age gap/marital status hinder people to watch the drama. i am glad rating is still  good and steady even not getting so much hype like his past drama.

( as someone did mention above - sorry i could not tag you.  they keep comments this drama boring to make people watch their bias drama. some  promote their bias in encounter discussion topic. especially someone with many followers. i know what they are trying to do this drama in social media.)

For me, i believe in bogum (& SHK) , they can choose not to appear in any drama and bogum kept rejecting many dramas and movie after MDBC.  He is chemistry fairy. He can have  chemistry with any actress that he pair - yoo jung/ hyeri / goeun ( even a few scene with Yoona in Hyori home stay) and he stands out bromance with SIG in i remember you.

I love it that the drama is getting all these comments and discussions about the leads’ chemistry together. Sometimes, we forget that these people are professional Actors and Actresses and judged them based on their private lives. Hye Kyo being married shouldn’t cause us to discount her acting skills. She can still deliver intense acttraction if the script calls for it. Bo Gum being Joong Ki’s good friend shouldn’t affect his ability to act too. I really appreciated Bo Gum’s and Hye Kyo’s acting. I could feel their intentional awkwardness during the first episode and how they could portray their relationship growing naturally.

May this project done by two very talented actor and actress helped to pave the way for more openness in married actresses taking on romantic roles.

As actors/actresses, it is unavoidable audiences might prejudge from good visual look, actor’s age(too young or too old) , the dating/marriage status(could he/she make audiences believe in chemistry with the partner in acting project or not) and age gap.

There are not many actors/actresses who can reach hallyu status, there might be much less hallyu stars who diligently take acting seriously, Park Bo Gum and Song Hye Kyo are one of a few.

It is very proud to appreciate an actor like Park Bo Gum who has acted in different roles with different paces and rhythm.

Even he has been praised for his look, determination in study, MC capability, famous reputation and nice manner but as an actor, keep on amazing acting is still very crucial.

For Song Hye Kyo, she has just changed her personal status to be a married woman, then the first project she chose is to pair with lead actor who is 12 years younger than her. He is also her husband’s closed hoobae. Prejudice is understandable but in Encounter, Song Hye Kyo can nail her comeback. (with much more likable acting style than her previous projects for me, this might be my own preference)

It's indeed very difficult to change the mind and perception of people actually...

There are some people who don't like the pairing of older woman with younger man (my friend is one of them and she's not a bad person. She just have a different preference and she just doesn't think that she can root for jinsoo couple). Other people doesn't like melo drama since it's less action so they call it boring. It's just a matter of preference and our preference can change over time as our situation changes as well.

As for me, I'm surprised that I come to like this drama among all the other dramas airing. I typically would gravitate towards rom com drama such as "clean with passion for now" and I should have been drawn to MOA given that PSH is the first one that hooked me to k-drama. Nevertheless, it turns out that this "Encounter" drama is the one that I like the most at this moment...so to everyone who's new to this thread and wondering whether this drama is good and whether the pair is believable, I would say "Yes. You should watch few episodes of the drama and draw your own conclusion wether you like it or not.

Let me cut some part, I totally agreed with your post. I am one of audiences who showed strong objection after confirming the main casts with age gap and marriage status which might be quite difficult to make audiences believe in lovers’ roles.

I intended not to watch even a single episode..

After the first epispde, praises abour interesting story, fresh script, great acting, and unbelievably amazing chemistry made me start watching some short clips and then I became a fans of this Encounter.

For Park Bo Gum, I am so glad that he accepted this project because his acting is challenging and he can nail the role to create Kim Jin Hyuk alive and have chemistry with Cha Soo Hyun.

For Song Hye Kyo, I am not her fans before but I appreciated her acting approach in this Encounter, I am blessed that Park Bo Gum chose this Encounter with Song Hye Kyo, rather than any younger actresses with less acting experience.

I am impressed with story and script how the writer created this fairy tale in the current situation with reasonable circumstances and how Park Bo Gum&Song Hye Kyo made audiences deeply believe in their couple roles within just 8 episodes from KJH&CSH’s first meeting in Cuba till in relationship with longing moments in ep8.

So, additional observations about this conversation. Even though SH is just trying to right something that she considers to have been wrongly done to JH in the first place, JH knows that if SH steps in now after his transfer has been announced, that it would come to be seen to the company as SH doing a favor for her young lover. That would weaken SH's position in the company from the one she has now of being a level-headed, meritocratic, capable leader. So, he would rather let the transfer happen, and then be promoted back to headquarters through merit rather than SH's intervention. The other thing that is unusual about this conversation is how many times JH cuts SH off as she's speaking in order to convince her to go along with what he's saying. Given that he's actually going against her sense of right and wrong as well as her regrets for putting him in a position to be manipulated by those who want to hurt her, he's actually being relatively forceful to get her compliance. For me, the fact that he is able to be more forceful with her is also a sign that he does see her as his girlfriend who happens to be the CEO, rather than being more deferential as he has been in the past. Just my opinion on that anyway,.

I have just finished watching Encounter ep.8 with Eng Subtitle, I feel the same that KJH is able to be more forceful with her is a sign that he does see her as his girlfriend.

By the way. I really appreciated story and script to use the new word, rather than I love you, when KJH told CSH that he knows love from books but because of CSH he has known what love is.

I swear Park Bo Gum and Song Hye are completely responsible for creating the magical world of KJH and CSH that sucked us into their deep emotions, making it seem like we're there with them all the way, feeling their ups and downs. They're responsible for making us yearn for Weds and Thurs and throwing caution to the wind even in the office! Heck the boss.

I thought I was not quite satisfied about their kiss from the gifs .... till I watched the episode and was overwhelmed by their sadness and longing for each other which culminated in that beautiful, gentle kiss- it suffices for now because it got us crying, didn't it? Now, that's something so awesome. It conveys what it's suppose to convey to the audience - they have missed each other terribly. They had it real bad. They needed to touch and hug.

I just love the moment when KJH pulled CSH away from the party - he was so darn confident of his woman. PBG and SHK are so talented and they deserve all the accolades in making this drama so magical. Ep 8 is humanly sad but beautiful.

PBG and SHK chemistry is no joke, seriously.

I really agreed with your praises for Park Bo Gum's and Song Hye Kyo's natural acting.

The kiss scene reflected their longing each other, it has been conveyed perfectly to suit the missing emotion. I am glad that PD and scriptwriter made this scene realistically ensamble to characters/situations, rather than more intense&heated to create talk of the town PR.

After KJH and CSH moved on to more status than pre-relationship stage, KJH and CSH acted naturally as a dating couple, he could hold her hand and pull her to balcony outside.

I can not imagine PBG's and SHK's chemistry when news announced their confirmation of accepting the Encounter project but PBG and SHK can amazingly create KJH and CSH to exist in the K-drama land in audiences' eyes and mind.

So, a lot of the text is blurry on this still, however, the article is about SH being on a date with someone. And, that there was something about her circulating via SNS. Finally, something about her showing off childish behaviour.

So, I'm going to assume that someone did see the kiss perhaps and probably gossiped about it on SNS which was then picked up by various reporters. Sorry, this is as much as I can make out.

I hope that KJH will not choose any way to solve this problem which impact his life or the cruel chaebeol do anything to hurt KJH&CSH much worse.

Frankly writing here, when he chose to relocate in order to save CSH's CEO postion, I am so sad for his parents&his little brother to be far away from their valuable KJH. I really understand his eyes' expression like deeply guilty when he was with his family. KJH might be CSH's boyfriend while he is still a good son to make his family happy too, conflicting sometimes.

    Translation of the video:

WS: Find out what CEO Cha was wearing when she went to work.
JH: Oh, hello. My apologies for calling during your lunch time. I’m calling because of the order for the masks for the Donghwa Hotel party. The ones for the client have already been ordered, but I just wanted to order one additional one separately. Uh, it’s for a woman, and it would be preferred if her whole face was covered. She’ll probably prefer not to be recognized. Uhh… yes, I think a sketch can be sent to you. Yes. Please take care of it well. Thank you. Yes.

Thank you for your translation. PR Head let CSH choose a mask among several ones, KSH who knows what CSH really prefers so he arranged to have a full mask for CSH to be one of mask choices. Definitely CSH chose the full mask that KSH arranged upon her preference.

A translation of the preview clip you posted. Thank you

SH: I woke up in the morning, and it had become noisy. (meaning that there had been a lot of press articles)
JH: It ended up in my pack coming back from Cuba, but later I wanted to use it as a subject of a photo, so I kept it. (think he may be explaining the high heels in his room to his mother?)
MIL: It will be a good chance to take care of everything in one stroke. (she's evil, and anyway, the scene sequence seems to be implying that the plan involves HI in some way?)
Brother: Answer the phone, Kim Jin Hyuk.
    SH: Where are you?

So, yes, my question as well, where did JH go that he's not answering the phone to his brother or to SH?

Did preview showed like KJH's identity has been revealed?

  22. Compared to ep.7 which attacked my heart to be gloomy what the fate KJH had to bear from the chaebeol's careless action, ep.8 is like a sad with hope to develop from feeling like to express love profoundly.

KJH's mom and family could make audiences cry from just watching them be together before his beloved son will have to be far away from the devil chaebeol's command.

KJH's eyes can say many misarable feelings even he tried to smile as same as CSH's downcast smile&hidden tears when they were together before KJH's leaving.

As I wrote here before that I objected K-drama to sell skinship/kiss scenes without reasonable story/script.

However, Encounter has satisfied with story/script that KJH&CSH's skinships are to express their deep feeling for each other when they were threatened by Chabeol. KJH&CSH's kiss scene is to burst their intense longing to each other. Audiences can realize what KJH&CSH feel in each moment spendidly.   CSH's mask has been selected by KJH.

Again and again, I am very glad that Park Bo Gum and Song Hye Kyo selected this Encounter project to come back after a couple years of break even I used to object this selection at the very beginning.

Their assignment in Encounter is very tough from the age gap and real status to make audiences give them a change to portray these roles together, it is amazing that Park Bo Gum and Song Hye Kyo can hold the roles perfectly.

I appreciate Park Bo gum and his acting from Reply 1988, Love in the moonlight and this Encounter.

For Song Hye Kyo, I appreciated her acting from this Encounter.:)
