Regarding CJD, no matter what we think of her, she is a gung-ho lady. Is the novel Irresistable very explicit too? I seriously don't know how she is going to pull it off... But I suspect she has to give the script to the authorities first before she starts filming? Otherwise, is she not afraid that she will get into trouble?
irresistible is pretty explicit. more than addicted, but not as much as counterattack (counterattack is likely the most explicit book i have ever read...). irresistible is also laced with violence and corruption bc of the nature of the characters' jobs so idk how she is going to do it either. i had the wild thought of her turning it into BG ala revive superstar but the fans will probably burn her at the stake lol
it's hard to me to understand the thought process behind of having 2 adaptations hanging in this state and being still being able move onto another bl project. but all the power to her i guess

But then why are the other shows not banned? I believe it is because they are very discreet in their marketing, downplay many of the social ills, and they have not reached a level of popularity for the authorities to scrutinise.
i completely agree. it's not well known because these directors and producers love being cryptic, but many of these bl projects have been doing gymnastics with their release dates, editing, advertising, and even changing their titles to avoid stepping on toes. it's unfortunate but what happened addicted kind of have been made an example for other bl projects to watch and learn.
also, i guess we can take it as a compliment that none of these bl projects have had the popularity to penetrate mainstream as addicted did.
Spoilerimo there's nothing strange or overly aggressive about the way the current wave of bl actors are pushing their cp image. the pioneers from the like love franchise did it, the actors from counterattack did it, and the actors in the upcoming projects will continue doing the same. that's just how you do promotions for bl projects and how their intended audience likes it. it may even be that yz's cp "tameness" was what distinguished them, pushed them beyond the bl market into mainstream, and gave them the huge and scary -only fandoms they have today.
btw that video cjd posted yesterday is as close as it gets to a confirmation that her bl novel irresistable is going live-action. the 2 birds are as recognizable to irresistible as the uniforms are to addicted. i'm really interested to see how cjd pulls this off. it's clear now that the ban isn't wiping bl genre out of china, but cjd especially is in the hot seat.

but i hope that she learned that she can no longer split anything into seasons. this has to be done in one go.

Ehhhhh so no Like Love 3? I've been waiting for season 3 tho..i heard they might release it on September so they cancelled it??
And they got banned too???? WHAT...huhu I like them..Why...aigoo
like love wasn't "banned" but the director officially announced the cancellation on broadcast in march, and kong chuinan and huang lige haven't been seen together since like february, so i'd say like love is done.
however, that director is planning to film 4 freaking other BL projects this year so we'll see how that goes lol

My first question would be the hepatitis B scare of our dear smart Bai Luo Yin.
1) in the novel, the students had blood testing. it was specifically a hepatitis test (stated by the class vice prez). its true that they got the results in the same day though. i dont really have an explanation for this other than amazing fictional time frame!!
2) i'm sad to break it to you, but our dear smart bly was only in 12th grade and got his hep b info by typing "hepatitis b" into the baidu search bar lol (also stated in the novel)

Already having several rumors at the start of his career does not help. Let me explain what this polarizing thing I'm talking about. A number of the general population (among most men and some women) will not be able to appreciate ZZ's beauty, some might find his beauty a bit feminine and too 'meng' for them.
its funny bc i never thought of zz's appearance as feminine, especially when he's photographed. if cjd casted him as gh i probably wouldnt question it (there were even comments in this thread about how he's too manly and uncute for the bottom role in a bl lol). i see many other hot chinese idols nowadays looking much much more feminine than he does. but i definitely get what you are saying, bc personality/presence wise he's 100% the cute type. on video, if he's just being himself and not acting a role, his image is really "softened". i feel like he's somewhere inbetween the pretty boy type and the jy-type, which is the two extremes that fangirls love and that ironically makes him polarizing

Those 3 more episodes are supposed to cover the story after the appearance of SH, Gu Weiting's finding out about them sons f**king and boys eloping to Shanghai. We have seen the eloping footage in the "Walk Slowly" MV, we have heard the possible audio version of the full 16th episode
(might have seen the rape rehearsed in the BTS whatever those grope session actually were). So, we have 16th and 18th episodes pretty much lined out. Plus, I remember reading back in February, right after the ban, that the show was supposed to contain 18 series with each episode - 45 minutes long, but I am not sure how true that information was (my heart still holds onto it dearly)...that audio is from an audio book unrelated to the drama i think?
here's my guess as to what they have. firstly, a full s2 script and some s2 rehearsals. the "3 more episodes" thing has always been a rumor so i dont think they have something edited and completed into "episodes", but for sure they have more raw footage in the vault extending past the ending scene of ep 15. for one it was cut off abruptly. and logically it doesnt make sense to get all the extras and shi hui's actress on set to have her film just that one bit then call it a day and resume the same scene in may or something. and in the same way, they must have filmed all of the elopment scenes. like might as well, since they are already on location. we know for sure a yq/ym kiss scene was filmed since the actors already talked about doing the take 3 times. and based on the cancellation announcement they have have other footage as well if the only thing missing his the car accident (we dont know what they cut or change from the original plot afterall)
but its no use speculating bc i think we'll never know and all of that is gonna stay in the vault forever unseen, like a myth....

Iqiyi Taiwan stands: http: //goo.gl/9BGgYr# Addictive not cut version April 30 Iqiyi exclusive release
# Please support genuine platform
# Iqiyi Members Onlywow good to hear iqiyi havent given up on this. i have a feeling they are running into dvd release problems (they have been dragging it on for ages without a specific date...) so they might just try to make profit off their taiwan platform instead.
the thing is cjd gave a ton of bts and rehearsal footage for counterattack's dvd, but i'm not sure if its possible for addicted since you know the fans are going to screencap everything and spread it all over weibo and their cp hype is gonna start all over again

Spoiler(8 years ago, on the empty university campus)
before lin xiao took the university exams, his mother took him to see a woman who is a fortune teller. the woman closed her eyes, and told lin xiao's mother: i see the sea, your son will attend a school by the sea, and in his 3rd year he will study abroad in a country very close to the sea. lin xiao actually received an acceptance from an inland university in the city. but unexpectedly, he was short 2 points on the exam, he ended up with a level B foreign language university in a seaside city. furthermore, this university is located right by the sea. [jfc, the word sea 海 is repeated 5 times in this paragraph]
lin xiao has been independent from a young age. after receiving his acceptance letter, he went off on his own, embarking on a new journey. like most other incoming college students, finally he can leave behind the restrictions of his family home and the protection of his parents. He's very excited even though he doesn't know anything. lin xiao is very fair skinned, he tells everyone he meets that he's 1.75m tall when he's actually only 1.73m. he appears to be tall, lanky, and long-legged.
lin xiao got lost on the road. the weather is very hot, making him very sweaty. the campus is huge, and after wandering around for a long time, he saw a student sitting in front of dorm 4. he went to the reception in the first floor and saw a security guard inside.
"may i ask if this is the dorm for new students?"
the guard appears to be waking up from a nap. "that's right. but classes begin tomorrow. why are you here so early?"
lin xiao had a realization from the guard's words. "no wonder i didn't see anyone after walking around for so long." he continues, "uncle, i came one day early. is there anyway i can stay here for tonight?"
the guard looks at his large and small luggage. "sure, but you'll be in this building all by yourself tonight. if you aren't scared then you can stay."
lin xiao laughs. "no problem, what would i be afraid of at this age. ah, may i have the key? i just checked over there, my room is room 805 building E."
the guard looks at his clear eyes and smiles "okay. hand me your acceptance letter and i'll give you the key."
holding the key in his hands made lin xiao very happy, as if he worked hard for 20 years in beijing to earn money to buy a house. it's just an ordinary key, but it can be so beautiful today.
the guard sees lin xiao still wandering around the first floor with his luggage even after receiving the key. he popped his head out the window and asked.
"hey kiddo, what are you looking for?"
"uncle, where is the elevator? how come i can't find it?"
"aiya. there are no elevators in his area. you have to walk up there."
lin xiao looks at the number 805 written by ink on the key. the number 8 never seemed this large before. he regrets not coming with his parents. he's already exhausted just thinking about carrying all of this luggage up 8 floors.
he decided to divide his luggage into 2 trips. even his body was soak in sweat during the first trip, he's still feeling good because there is no one in the hallways. a ray summer sunlight shines through a gap, he heads towards the light [yes, "着阳光的方向看". if anyone need reminding of the song title we're all thinking of: 向着光亮那方] of the sun and saw blue sky white clouds, green leaves, feeling refreshed. lin xiao especially loves the feeling immersing himself in the sunlight, in his own space.when he finished transferring his luggage, the guard tells him "hey, there's another student who came early today. his room is also on the 8th floor. you don't have to worry tonight."
lin xiao's first reaction to the news is disappointment. he thought all of the 8th floor is his tonight but now appears a random person, as if someone is taking away his toy. but at the same time, he's also curious about this person. because he believes in fate. the meeting between people has been arranged by the hands of destiny.(to be continued)
i think my eyeballs have rolled out onto the floor somewhere. i don't think a debate about what this story is referring to is needed anymore. what is up for debate is the intention of this story
edit: add on to @Norah's post yesterday viet trans
Spoiler@小龙牢司 this is a story i have always wanted to write. today i found a good name for the characters, so it begins. i will take out a bit of time to slowly write it. i don't know how long i will write it, i just want to start today. because work is very busy, if i don't begin, then it's probably going to be postponed forever.

i am 100+ chapters into both of her other novels and i think they are good, and better than counterattack. cjd's style really matches my preferences
although, in my opinion, they seem incredibly difficult to make into a drama without a proper budget. they can breeze by with school boys, but the characters' jobs in the other novels (and addicted vol 2 lol) need some real effort, or it'll end up neither here or there like counterattack's drama

i just saw cjd's recruitment poster and realizing belatedly she named her company Feng Mang after her second novel. and the silhouettes look suspiciously like bodyguards (characters from the 3rd novel) so i wouldnt be surprised if she tries to do something with her other novels. the question is how...

17 hours ago, skeletonworks said:As for me, I've been reading yaoi manga since high school, which was like ages ago and I rarely read BL novel/fanfics as I find it hard to imagine (I enjoy it better when I can imagine real people like Shangyin & Love Sick) and my point is, to me, Shangyin is a real gem. I've read tonnes of yaoi manga, but this novel can't compare to any that I have read so far... The way Guhai dotes so much on Bai Luoyin... it's too much feels... Guhai is the typical seme in all the yaoi manga that I've read but what sets them apart is his care for Bai Luoyin is like another step ahead from the other seme...
for me, gh's not only the ultimate typical bl lead but he also beat out all those typical hetero leads lol. his all-consuming love for bly is literally straight from fantasy land. i cannot help but be moved by him, even the crazy stuff that he did, bc i understand why
Spoilerthe novel made it clear that from the time his mom passed away until meeting bly, it was some sort of emotionally dead period in his life. 1) gh saying that he has never cried for anyone except his mom and bly 2) gh only has 2 smiling pictures, one was taken during childhood with his mom, the other was with bly at the beach. cjd really goes through to show how bly is the first person to push gh to the limits of endurance, made him feel him sorrow and happiness, force him to understand what patience, gentleness, or remorse is. like there cannot be a more fitting theme song for gh than teresa teng's "i only care about you"
like its bc i know this sort of insane unrealistic love is so rare in real life that i love seeing it laid out so unabashedly in fictional form
3 hours ago, winterday said:Separation 8 years is very important for Gu Hai. I think if they were not parted, Gu Hai might not be like what we had read in the book. He might not make his own path for his own sake. What will happen for the rest of his life?
this reminds of something bly said to gh's dad
Spoiler"maybe, if i never enlisted in the army, if we werent separated for 8 years, our love would have faded with time and we might have broken up earlier."
which i highly doubt would have happened seeing gh lol, but bly considered it
the separation is necessary for both parties, but i think its even more important for bly than it is for gh. i have read the last chapter of vol 1 at least 10 times by now and i am starting to see how the accident made bly realize the imbalance in their relationship. even though he reciprocated gh's feelings, for the entirety of vol 1 bly has been complacent, letting gh be the fighter and protector. their love was almost entirely dependant on gh's efforts so bly ended up believing gh was invincible. thats why it was earth shattering for him to see gh crumble. he realized the kind of obstacles they will have to face are actually deadly and how powerless he is to protect gh in return.
so part 2 was what differentiated bly from other uke characters for me. he wouldnt be the person he is if he didnt suffer that pain, he wouldnt be this strong if gh had been by his side doting on him. imo the turning point in the story is when bly promised to protect gh and their lost love in that swamp, and when bly can firmly tell gy to back off instead of running away. of course gh is forever unchanging; he will always be a fighter and he will always protect bly. but what bly needed was being able to find that strength and courage on his own.

12 hours ago, gayyoxx said:Now, the interesting point is, when ZZ is with JY, he does not put his aggressive mode on. In the BTS, he might be shy or had not been used to with their relationship, so at times, he looked awkward, blushed a lot or avoided JY. After that, during Shanghai FM and interviews, he is more and more allowing JY to lead. His style also changes, he becomes cuter and cuter each passing day. At HC while we see him fighting JY at his best, he was enjoying losing too. He also teased JY first during their flirting but when JY came, ZZ made a small gesture of surrender (inclined his head and upper body, moved to give JY space). So, I guess, most of the time, ZZ lets JY to lead but that does not necessarily mean ZZ is passive.
i really agree. i mean i actually never pegged zz to be aggressive or passive, he's just normal. but he does look so passive when jy (who is 105% aggressive lol, our gu hai from another life ) is around. i think its's so ingrained in him from the jiujitsu practices to just relax his body when jy grabs him. and his constant ego stroking for jy doesnt help.

i gasped several times watching that interview with the mc of the thai fanmeet. even though many people already can guess most of his information for themselves, hearing it from the mouth of an insider was...wow. no one has ever been so transparent about this situation as he has. i'm really grateful that he (and the fanmeeting organizer) is a 3rd party and isn't pressured to keep quiet. because the way both of the actors' agencies and the addicted producers have been dealing with this fanmeeting debacle has been incredibly disappointing.
i know we already have translations but i transcribed the juiciest parts for a friend from the viet subs so i'll share with the forum
Spoiler"I believe the topic...the topic of Addcited's actors is a very controversial one. Everyone must have known already. In terms of the organizers, the initial plan was for all 4 actors to attend. All 4 meaning...there will be the main couple and the supporting couple. Everyone will be on stage, participating in the games and activities together. For me as an MC, I was asking myself what can I do to make this fanmeeting fun? I mentally prepared myself for this show."
"However, during the days of Songkran, something happened...several conditions came from China, their country. Their country and our country are different, you must understand. Their ways of dealing with these issues are completely different. Our country is free, free to be comfortable with yourself, free to think, not only restricted to heterosexuality. But for the Chinese people, they can not accept it."
"The drama has announced that the season 2 everyone is waiting for has been cancelled. Maybe they are met with too many restrictions. So I asked them, "then why did they allow it in the first place?" They answered, "no one thought it will become this famous." When it is this famous, people will start to pay attention to sexual orientation. People will realize that there isn't only heterosexuality, but also gay, queer...such and such will become more visible, to the point that that country cannot tolerate it. This intolerance affected the fanmeeting."
"Thus, there were several conditions made related to an actor, who I cannot name. If that actor appear on stage together with others, when he return something will happen to him. Knowing that he will be met with trouble, I understand his point of view. For the remaining 3, they didn't care because their main goal was to meet the fans. I understand both sides, understand very well. So I ask myself "the tickets are already sold out, what I should do to make the best of out of this situation?"
"In the beginning, the organizers believed that they must cancel the fanmeet. They considered it over and over, the meetings were very tense. In the end, some negotiations happened: since there will be no season 2, since these 4 actors will never meet each other again, lets just do it. It's alright if they cant be onstage together, but at least let all 4 attend, we'll deal with it later."
"The atmosphere on stage...I think the actors had no problems. Because when the 4 of them meet, and it's meeting by accident, you can only say that they only met accidentally, they would greet each other, say hi, shake hands. I saw with my own eyes. I can feel that they are still friends, that they still care about each other. But...they cannot interact. They cannot be in the same room, I saw it clearly. Their rooms must be separate, and they must eat separately. One person cannot be at the press conference due to circumstances, and the remaining 3 doesn't care at all, like "so what, what are they gonna do to us?" that kind of attitude."
"I only...I kept my mind open, to understand what they are going through. But in the end, the 4 of them are very happy and care about each other a lot. Every time they meet by accident, they always want to talk a lot bc it (the separation) is very irritating and uncomfortable."
[...]
"I didn't know! I knew on the day of. I was shocked. I thought that all 4 will attend the press conference. But on that day, there were only 3. I was very surprised. I asked them, what happened?"
[...]
"When the fans look back on it, they will see that they have to thank the organizers, because the organizers gritted their teeth and made it happen. If they didnt, the fans will never get to see those 4 on the same stage. Thailand will be the only and the last country to host a fanmeeting under the name of this drama. From now on, it will be very difficult to get the opportunity see the 4 of them together. Actually...I think there will be no such opportunity.
[...]
"From the time that I began hosting fanmeetings until now, this the most difficult situation I have ever experienced. I'm telling the truth! The difficult thing is I have to watch every word. The rules for the MC on that day forbade any mention of the drama, even though the fanmeeting is for the drama. I cannot talk about the drama, even the names of the characters cannot be mentioned. Cannot...in the script, there was a line that said I cannot talk about any scene or episode, to the point that I felt very uncomfortable. It made my job very hard."
[...]
"The ending of the fanmeet was something I thought was possible. There was a lot of discussion, to the point that the organizers had to beg for them to come on stage together, even if they cannot stand close. When I heard about this news, I was very glad. The fans at least will have this even if they can no longer stand side by side."
"When they came on stage, I thought...is there anything I can do to let them be close even if just a for moment? Nope, 0% chance. Because I was told: if they get too close to each other, your responsibility is to separate them. Your responsibility is to separate."
"In the end, something interesting happened. One of the actor knew what the fans wanted, I think he could feel it. He went for it. Push~ He changed his position and gave one push."
"My job is to separate them. I didn't do it. I didn't do it because I felt that during the entire fanmeeting, for 2 hours, the fans were waiting for this. Because I didn't do it, the backstage staff bravely came out and separated them. Everything was going normally, but in the 2 seconds that they stood side by side, my god, the fans' screams exploded. But in the end they had to return to their positions."
"But at that moment...if one paid attention and can see it for yourself...when Da Shu pushed Zhou to stand next to Jingyu, in that moment, Jingyu is happy, Zhou is also happy. We all had been waiting for that moment, for someone to push him. When it happened, Jingyu did not move away at all. He should reacted by stepping away, since it was forbidden. He definitely did not. Everyone was very happy, he even raised his hand to wave. Meanwhile, I let it happen...don't care anymore, keep standing there, stand there longer! But backstage cannot let it happen, they have an order. If I don't do it, then they must do it."
i don't know about y'all but i thought the way the mc talked was very exciting, like storytelling haha. i like that he made it clear it's all from his point of view. if he doesn't know then he doesn't claim to know with his guesses. and, it's VERY interesting how he described the trio's attitude towards this entire thing
