  1. If it were me before 2020, I would say Hye Jin in love is a bit too cheerful and clingy. Then I met someone in 2020, who is years younger than me, and fell in love again after 14 years. I found myself waiting for the texts, the phone calls, the longing, the casual banters that make me laugh until my stomach hurts. Hye Jin's behavior is not unnatural y'all. No matter how old you are, love brings out the sweetest, cutest, funniest and kindest person in you.

The storm is coming, notice this beautiful picture, I like the little filming details.  HJ side is all bright and DS in the darkness.

Love your observation. Indeed these are subtle things in a drama that make the drama more dramatic.

  2. Wow! What an absolutely marvelous, perfect, over-the-moon happy ending! I cried tears of joy seeing everyone gets their 'faces' back, a.k.a their growth, their well-deserved happiness! I was for 0.5 second waiting for the explanation of the mom's backstory, but who cares, because this story is about how our trio heals themselves by loving and leaning on each other!
Among the three, I am most proud of Sang Tae's growth, but most happy for Gang Tae. He has learned to let go of the anger, to accept the love showered by KMY and his brother, and to have time for himself. I'm sure he's gonna miss taking care of the other two, but this would be an exciting new journey for him as well!

Hats off to Oh Jung-Se. He deserves a Daesang this year, if Psycho but it's okay not to receive a Deasang this year. Sang Tae, through the performance of Jung-se, is not a supporting role but arguably a main role that may have outshined the other two main roles! But not to compare, the three characters complement each other and play  a crucial part in making the story very unique.

I have been a fan of SYJ since Hwarang, but this drama has offically turned this ahjumma into KSH's fan! His crying scenes just makes me sob uncontrollably! Kudos to him.

Last but not least, thank you for the posts on this forum. It has been an absolutely joyful ride to be with you all through ups and downs of the drama.

  3. After watching episode 14, I have a feeling that head nurse is not MY's mother, and writers just want to throw the last plot twist in episode 15. I mean, MY said no matter how many surgeries the mother had she would have recognized her mom. I am still leaning forward the theory of the two sisters (the 25 min youtube video someone posted was so convincing). That way Kangtae wouldn't have to feel so bad about loving MY, because even though he is now forgiving, his conscience won't let him live with her happily forever if that is the case.

    • I think MY's father will be the key to the whole mystery because he knows MY's mother, the head nurse, POR and probably know ST and GT's mother as well.
    • No matter what horrible thing he had done to MY, I hope she has grown up a lot to forgive him during his last moments.
    • I'm so loving the character maturation of MY and ST and also feeling for GT. I grin the moments ST and MY really get along but also cry for the pain GT is suffering. Hopefully it will be a happy ending, and GT will realize ST and MY are there for him as much as he is there for them, that he doesn't have to be strong and understanding all the time.
    • Like someone had already mentioned, ST will also be my favorite third wheel and I love him as much as my own brother. I also hope Oh Jung-se will earn a lot of awards and recognitions from this drama.

Right from the start, ST was interested in MY as a woman, he already got upset, when KT presented him a fake signature. The long hair is the sign of seduction and womanhood so ST was so happy to hear that they had become best friends. For him, it was a step closer to his dream. Having MY as his girlfriend/wife and his brother by his side that's the reason why he is so opposed to the idea that MY can have KT. For him, it would ruin his dream: a van where he is with MY and KT together and MY is by his side. Since he has learnt that his brother has always put him first, he wants to keep it this way.

I agree with you. I was under that impression since the beginning too. ST has his own subtle way to show his own jealousy. However, in episode 10 when ST hugged KT and said "Don't abandon me", and that night when ST kept saying that KT belong to him, plus the preview of episode 11 start making me think that ST is just afraid to be left behind by his brother. It will be interesting to see how the story unfolds. I think the brotherhood and MY issue with be solved soon, probably next week so that they have some time to solve the butterfly effect and MY's family issue.

Oh Jung-se's portrayal of an autistic person is so wonderful. I have an autistic cousin so I'm really surprised by his accurate acting.

Last but not least: the drama rating. Personally I would have hoped for a higher ratings, about 10-15% would be great. But I get it this drama is not for everyone. It's complicated and portrays many layers of human's feeling. So I'm still loving it no matter what the rating is!

Haha I am too not sure if what HB found was a 4 leaf clover. More like a little branch of plant with 4 leaves. :joy: But the innocent way he believed it was a 4-leaf clover was so cute I wouldn't mind believing the same :D

I expected their agencies would deny dating rumors, because both Jin and Bin had openly said they wanted to work together. If they confirmed they were dating, the possibility of working together would have been closed.

Very insightful. Never have I been more grateful about them keeping their relationship private than this. If they hadn't thought thoroughly we would have never had a wonderful phenomenon named CLOY with HB and SYJ as leads.

We know how much more comfortable YJ is with SNS, so she is most likely to lurk.

Could anyone explain to me what SNS is? I’ve seen it several times in the thread but not sure what it really means. If it means “social network system “, do you know which app SYJ referred to? Tiktok? Ig? Twitter?  As I person living outside South Korea I wonder which app SYH and HB probably used to see her votes at the end of the day. Thank you.

  8. I have a question, someone who has watched all the episodes and paid very well attention please help me: when LG entered Republic of Korea world they couldn't find his identity. When JTE entered Kingdom of Corea world she gave her fingerprint but of course they couldn't identify her existence. However, when the elder doctor presented the real death certificate of Prince Emperor Geum, he said 'even the fingerprint of the body (that was handicapped) matched Lee Lim's.'. How is this possible if this was a person from the parallel world?

Please excuse my English. And thank you to anyone who could explain me this.

HB and SYJ are smart actors who have made more right choices in selecting roles than wrong ones. So I trust them in whatever roles they'll choose next, so let's not get too worked up on if or when they should be in another rom com or love story etc. As commenters have mentioned, they both have said they want to play character that are suitable to their age. "Suitable to their age" doesn't mean it can't necessarily be a love story or rom com. It's just the characters need to at least have the level of maturity that matches their current age. Like I can't imagine SYJ doing something like Spellbound or HB doing SeGA again.

For me, one of the many elements why CLOY was so successful is because both Bin and Jin are very seasoned and mature actors. If I remember correctly, Seri and Jung Hyuk are in their early 30s (both born in 1988?). They were literally playing someone 6 years younger than their actual selves. I personally feel that if Seri and JH were played by younger, less-experienced actors, the drama would've came off a bit childish. In my opinion, some of the plots in CLOY were a bit cheesy from time to time. But at the hands of SYJ and HB, they added this level of depth and sincerity to their characters that makes you love the cheesiness. (Same for Seo Ji Hye, I like her too and she' was wonderful)

As for CLOY's popularity in comparison to other dramas, I won't beat a dead horse here since it's been debated over and over. We can go on and on about the productions, the storylines, the mediums they were released on (Netflix vs local channels internationally). I do think an important component of CLOY's success is due to it being on Netflix. I'm in the US and it certainly made my viewing a lot more accessible. In the past, I waited at least a year after the dramas were over to watch MLFTS and DOTS on Viki. I only recently started Goblin. But I will say this: CLOY is a cultural phenomenon. I feel like it's a bit dishonest to say it isn't. The only reason I decided to watch CLOY is because of the NK-SK story line. SK has produced so many projects on NKoreans in SK, but CLOY is probably the first (?) where a SKorean ends up in the NK. And in entirely new fashion from other SK productions, NK not only wasn't portrayed as a land of evil, the show gave this "secretive" country and its people a human side. I think it even got more people interested in (visiting) NK. lol I've always had this desire to visit NK and this show just made me really put NK on my list of places to visit should circumstances allow.

The theme of separation/reunification was present throughout all 16 episodes. Every time Seri had to say goodbye to the NK ahjummas, the puppy soldiers and of course JH, my heart broke a little, because as the audience I know it is impossible for them to see each other again. Not to mention ep 16 their "final" goodbye at the demarcation line. Remember one of Seri's lines to JH was something like "I can go to Antarctica but I can't come here (NK)." And Seri was the only one who constantly mentioned or expressed desire for reunification. None of the NKorean characters ever really mentioned it. Even though Seri said those lines for love, as an audience we know it's deeper than that. It's through Seri, the SKorean, we as the audience are inspired to really ponder more seriously about the Korean peninsula. We've all seen on the news how some Korean elders were allowed to reunite with families (siblings, parents!) from the other side because they were abruptly separated. However, they reunion was only for an hour! If we think about it, Seri and JH's ending mirrors that. And this is why CLOY also got politicians watching it. Even the current First Lady of Korea watched it. On the surface CLOY isn't political, but I'm sure it has struck a nerve and started a conversation. And personally, if we want to talk about timeline of dramas, I REALLY don't think CLOY could've been made a few years ago under the previous Korean president (who was more conservative and censored the K-ent industry). But I'm not Korean, so feel free to correct me.

If you ask me, CLOY doesn't have the same sophistication in writing as some other dramas. The story line is pretty simple and predictable. But the storytelling is superb and the  production is definitely out of this world. I'm in the US so there's a lot of ugliness in politics right now, especially in how Americans view Asia. For me, CLOY is the medicine that came out at the right now, providing a dose of love and understanding in a time where hatred is more acceptable.

Edit: If relations between the two countries take a positive turn in the future, I hope HB and SYJ (and the cast and crew) can take comfort in playing a small role in shaping opinions.

Just wanna shout out that this is a very very well articulated post. :) I agree wholeheartedly to everything you said.

  10. Hello all, could someone explain to me if the writer or the director found and suggested HB first for the role Captain Ri in CLOY? I was under the impression that the writer saved this script for HB, but I could be wrong. In K-ent, who has the right to pick the actors/actresses? Thank you.

In my opinion, HB was very happy and earnestly wanted to work with YJ again after TN because he knew he found his right match on screen and hopefully off screen.

I believe in art, there is nothing more precious that finding a person who is the right match for you; someone who is just as passionate as you, who understands and values artwork like you do and enhances your work by just being in it. Whether romantically involved or not, I think getting to know and acting with SYJ is one of HB's blessings in life and itself is a reason he treasures her immensely.

And because of this, public love and pressure for both will be even heavier and challenging.  Despite how successful they may been with their past works, awards, and what not, for some, CLOY might define them. And this is the downside, from here on out, their succeeding projects might be judged and compared based on the success of CLOY (especially that it has attracted a lot of new and casual fans who have become attached to the characters and personalities). There will be added pressure. So I think for both of them, their next projects, I would want to see them in a different genre (I'm glad HB is doing Bargaining next) at least in the near term.

I've been thinking about HB's career. In an interview years ago he said he was in episode 6 if his life was a 16-episode drama. After CLOY I would think that he is currently in episode 8 right now where the FL and ML are clearly in love and just getting through the obstacles. The problem is, CLOY has set the bar so high not only for other dramas, but also for HB and SYJ themselves. Assuming HB and SYJ were already in a very good relationship since the Negotiation, due to it being private HB can easily act in MOA with PSH without being scrutinized. However, due to CLOY, I'm sure his chemistry with other female actors will be judged and compared a lot. The same will happen to SYJ. It will be a lot harder for them to star in another rom-com drama in a while. Now, let's assume they are in love for real and decide to announce to be a couple/wedding, that is almost like a stamp on themselves that they would never be able to act in another rom-com. Imagine, it would be weird to see Kim TH to act lovey-dovey in another man's arm now that she is married. Also, how did SHK's fan reaction when they saw the Encounter? Did they focus on the relationship between the leads, or they just create more rumors about her work life and her private life and the two men?

I love HB and SYJ so much and I understand this is the biggest sacrifice for them to not announce their relationship if it is real because of their careers. They want to act more before they are gradually overwhelmed by other younger actors. So, whether or not HB and SYJ announce their relationship, I still sincerely support them and hope that they plan everything out for the best of their lives. My selfish viewer in me still wishes to see more of HB's drama so I hope he figures out a way to balance both his personal life and his career. Sorry for my broken English, I'm sure these thoughts have been expressed before! Just wanna say my own thoughts. Happy shipping!

  12. I think he didn't remember her. Putting it another way, he must have liked her twice. He thought she was totally his type during their very brief encounter in Switzerland. Maybe not to that extent as he nicely put it to Seri, but he definitely smiled and found her very fascinating.

On a side notes, some people change overtime. Some dont change much. I used to like a song very much when I was young and had no means to search for its name back then. 10 years later, I happened to listen to that song again and immediately love it and this time searching for tittle, lyrics, etc. Then memories came back and I realize it's the song I've been loving all along even just listened once. My face was purely happy just like RJH when he realized he had met her before.

Just a side note, of course :D Feel like my personalities resemble this character somehow.

  13. I still chuckle to myself when I think about CLOY. When I heard Hyun Bin was casted as a soldier, I expected some solid actions from the soldier involving fights, battles etc. Instead I got a solder who cooks, makes coffee, goes grocery shopping, buys bra and aroma candles, plays online games, jealous and pouty to both girlfriend and parents.

Oh what did I get myself into? :joy: And a month later I still can't get over CLOY. :)

Im not a fan of Kim Eunsuk. I hardly ever finished her drama except The Heirs.

I dont know why her work doesn’t interest me.

Same...I tried so hard to watch her works but had to drag myself to finish them...unlike some other dramas where you just wanna click "next episode" and dare not go to the bathroom while watching :joy:

I can't fathom why I am among the minority who can't enjoy Kim Eunsuk' writings so I read a lot about her writing inspiration. Surprisingly, Kim Eunsuk wrote a drama called "City Hall". It was actually my favorite so I had to dig in why this drama is so unlike the rest of her popular dramas. Turn out City Hall is her baby, something she really put her feelings in as she wrote it, but it wasn't well received by the general public. She then decided that she would stop putting her real feelings in her characters/dramas and only write what the public want to seee...hence came the births of Lovers In Paris, Secret Garden, DOTS, Goblin.

It's been weeks...I still miss our Riri couple. I visit this page when I have the chance....so glad to see it's still going strong. Everyone please keep yourself healthy during this crisis time.

yes I cant wait....as you can see from my avatar HB and SYJ have worn wedding gown and tux before so it's just a matter of time before someone make a vid...

On a side note, what are the guys' reactions regarding the series? I wanna know what boys/men think about this drama. I have a brother who occasionally binges watch with me every K drama that I recommend (Hyde Jekyll Me and Sky Castle). We have the same taste so I kinda think he will enjoy CLOY  but if it's too romantic then maybe he won't but I need someone to binge watch this with me so much ahaha...

Oh wow, look at how close that camera was to HB’s face in that famous close-up of his eyes in the award show from last year - I think it was Baeksang 2019? No wonder he was so shy! He looks devastatingly handsome here.....

That must be awkward when the cameraman just zooms in you shamelessly....but yeah he's a public figure so I guess he's used to all sorts of fan service.
