I love the ducklings too! Cant wait to see them reunite with SeRi and their captain in Seoul.

Maybe they will show up when our otp is kissing and tease them and their captain will be so shocked and blush to the ears :)

Agree! i fell for him in Confidential Assignment where he played as NK soldier as well. I think Hyun Bin post army is the best Hyun Bin... i am not his fan before his enlistment but after he discharge he is like a total new Hyun Bin to my eyes.

I was literally Yoona in that movie! Internal screaming, squirming. HB was born to wear uniforms (North or South-look at him wearing the Marine uniform) and long coats.

I can understand why there are people disappointed with this episode.

For one, this episode was a connecting piece. It seems like the sole purpose was to get RJH and the ducklings to SK, and set up the family battle, so that they can continue the second half of the story. In spite of the build up around the watch, having Man Bok suddenly go and confess, and a trial that took 4 minutes, seemed rushed and was a let-down. It was a little too efficient, like the writer just needed to set things up for the next half.

Other scenes were just filler: eg, the scenes showing YSR's escape with help from GSJ, scene where villages ladies find out the truth. There is a real risk that it descends into a "Coming to America" comedy, with too much emphasis on the Duckling adjusting to South Korea.

And some parts of the story have got a bit forced, though it can be rationalized:

    1. RJH, after his years of discipline and knowing that he cannot even take one step into SK, to impulsively defect, because he wants to save YSR? I know we can explain it by this passion, lovesickness, promise to protect her etc etc, and that even if he reports CCK, there is no incentive for them to go get him. I would have rather the writer found a legitimate reason to send RJH to SK. Making him do something like this seemed rather out of character.

    2. The reason to make it rogue action is to get the Ducklings to South Korea. Because seriously, if you had a send a secret agent to get a defector back from South Korea, would you send these five? It is only because the drama needed these five to keep up the entertainment value, and it is rationalized because RJH's father wanted to keep it a secret, so he sent RJH's most trusted friend. But even so, do you need to send four soldiers as clueless as these four (one who is still under-age and has been in the military for five months, an old one who drinks on the job, plus a clerk whose sole job has been to eavesdrop on conversations and take notes? Sending just 1-2 would be enough - just send Kwang Beom and one other.

    >>> you're preaching to the choir, comrade. The way the Rat confessed with RJH and turned in the watch, just like the way RJH and SR found out the piano piece and their fateful encounter in Switzerland, fell short of expectation. I mean we fans were all buzzing about the watch and the piano piece and came up with situations of how these will be mentioned and then boomed, they are both explained in episode 9 and 10. I was wondering, from the conversation in the car, if RJH would ever know that the watch was brought back to him actually by Seri and not the Rat? Though maybe in the future when Seri sees him wearing it, she'll say "this is my Xmas gift to you how did you get it?" Or maybe the writer will skip this little information forever because it seems trivial.

Honestly I was watching with one eye closed because I had to make myself overlook these little details that you mentioned "forced". I know we can't truly enjoy a K drama if we are being too logical but deep in my heart, I wish this is a drama that's based on a very hypothetical situation but still being very logical. I hope hope hope the writer still keeps up with her own wit and creativity.

One thing I want to point out though: RJH's father sends the guys to "bring RJH home". It is very different from sending the guys to work for or protect RJH. Based on this point I have faith the writer is knowing what she's doing and planning for something bigger, and it will not simply be about the first-time experiences for the ducklings.

Yeah, I watched episode 10 with my hubby yesterday and he was commenting that this "love triumphs all obstacles and common sense" only happens in kdrama fantasyland. So I just asked him to take it as a typical K-Drama modern fairytale or we wouldn't be able to enjoy any K drama ever.

I managed to make my fiance watch with me the entire drama so far and swoon with me every time HB pouts (and my fiance just rolls his eyes at me). Here's what he points out:

    1. That trial court seems too quick and efficient to be true. 2 weeks and somebody already gets a hearing is a miracle. However, he comments "maybe because it was RJH's father who requested that."

    2. How can everyone in this drama talk on the phone so freely without being eavesdropped? I mean, there are devices in the rooms but no records of phone conversations? >>> I think he got a point, but let's overlook it because if everything is written perfectly realistically, Seri would not even survive her first day in NK.

    3. After watching ep 10, my fiance likes it a lot and thinks it deserves the increased rating. "It keeps getting better and better," he said. >>>>I was surprised to hear his opinion. I'm like, wow, I can see why different viewers have different povs and that's why we have to agree to disagree sometimes.

I am sincerely, truly happy that the drama got a huge boost in rating because honestly, I was worried that the rating would go down because I didn't find this episode as captivating as episode 9. The plots of SK chaebols fighting over business management and time shift/location shift that ensues hilarity have been used so many times before. Though, even with some doubts, I still have faith in our writer-nim. She never ceases to amaze me with her thoughtful, planned out details and excellent storyline for the last 10 episodes. I cross my fingers that the journey in SK for everyone will be as exciting as the story in NK.

I am also a loyal fan of HB. I have watched The Snow Queen, Worlds Within, Friends, Hyde Jekyll Me a.k.a some of his less popular works. My favorite Hyun Bin's product is Hyde Jekyll Me. His appearance and acting were the very best despite the failure in ratings. That is to say I really love this drama and the writing and the acting of all actors, and I only wish this drama will soar with the highest ratings. Everyone has been working really hard.

However there were some mishaps in the storyline as it proceeded. He was said to be only her arranged meeting not fiance because from the flashback Seri told him upfront that she saw what he is up to and she wouldn't be with him. It shouldnt have proceed to engagement after that. Seri didn't seem like agreed on marriage at all from the flashback but in today's episode they said the engagement was broken off few weeks before the marriage. Another thing is that Gu Seung Jun always showed interest in Seo Dan but in one of the previous episodes he said his heart fluttered towards Seri after she broke of the engagement. These two things didn't fit the storyline of Gu Seung jun which was portrayed from the beginning. Apart from that i am glad that he didn't drag Seri issue long and went back to his old self in the first appearance. As for Seo Dan, she never seemed interested in JeongHyeok from the beginning. I always thought she was rightfully angry about all the Seri issue because she had expectations from JeongHyeok. Not necessarily she loved him but because she was engaged to him for such a long time, she had developed expectation. In real life every girl would if they are engaged (especially for such longterm engagement). Therefore when her expectations failed, she became disappointed and her pride hurt since there was another woman involved. Her reaction is understandable in my opinion. However we now know that she fell in love with JeongHyeok at high school doesn't fit the narrative because she seemed very disinterested with him and didn't know if they could love each other.

well said, Comrade Lavanta. I assume thats why many people including me feel confused about SJ and SD characters. We were under the impression that both engagements were for other motives rather than true love (SR-SJ were for business purposes and RJH-SD still unknown?), then we were revealed that both second leads have feelings for the main leads. It will be hard for them to move on and fall in love with each other (or anyone else) if they have feelings for RJH and SR from the beginning.

Regarding everyone's conspiracy about SD's uncle being the ultimate villian: as an uncle, he always seems too excited and supportive of his niece's engagement with RJH. I suppose he needs alliance and RJH's status can guarantee him more power. It will be a pleasant plot twist. I'm excited to see how this storyline unfolds.

A comment about something I was thinking about that another poster identified earlier, I find it very odd that when SR had the revelation about her meeting with RJH in Switzerland many years ago (is it about a decade?) he didn't seem to respond to it at all.  He immediately smiled and just said you'll be leaving here tomorrow.  I can't tell if this was intentional (i.e., he doesn't want her to know about something else) or unintentional (i.e., the writer just didn't write in a response to this for no reason and nothing to look into here).  But then he kind of didn't respond to it again when she brought it up again at the separation scene.  Anyway, I wonder what else happened in Switzerland, if anything.

I second this...Also, is it just me or the revelation of the piano piece sort of...fell short of expectation? I mean...it is such a good piece of music and the back story of it was also meaningful...it's a goodbye song to JH's brother but also a song to bring SR back to life...I was waiting for it to be revealed in a much more unexpected way and the emotions that both characters go through will be more varied than a shock from Seri and a stoic expression of JH "you will be leaving tomorrow" as a response.

I'm not complaining here. It's just my two cents that I thought the writer could explore that storyline a little bit further. However our writer has been granting me with so many pleasant surprises and tear-jerking moments, I understand that she still has a lot in store and wants to put closures on some storylines to carry forward some others.

Did anyone realised he is the one selling the food, and acting like lunatic at last part of episode 10??

And when he said he came to the south eariler than them!!!

Is this true? Is this tru? If this is true omo why is he still there? But i will be over the moon about this!

Also, if RJH’s brother is still alive and in a long term mission, he can go back and RJH can continue following his dream as a pianist in Switzerland and Be with SR!

I cannot wait to see our ducklings in SK! I can imagine SR spoiling them and returning the favor. At this point now, I still cannot guess where the writer is going to take the ending but I know/hope she will not disappoint.

They need to cast Choi Ji Woo as cameo in this drama seriously! I want my NK ducklings to be happy too! And Seri will send back thousands of SK cosmetics to the ahjummas of that village!

SR: Geez, will it be okay after 6 months?
    JH: Well...
SR: Okay, then for 6 months I will think about our farewell. We are destined to meet, aren't we? Think about it. We met in Swiss coincidentally. We met again in NK. (JH keeps silent) Why?
JH: You can meet with other man. You can live well as if nothing happened. But, don't feel lonely anymore. Don't ever think about disappear silently while looking at beautiful scenery. Because you have me
SR: But you won't be my side
JH: Even if I can't be by your side, you will always have me as someone who wish that you won't feel lonely anymore. Please be happy for the rest of your life. I would be thankful if you do that

wow this is actually the best drama dialogue I've ever heard and seen. This is the deepest form of love- sincerely wishing the best for the other. is this considered noble idiocy? I'm not so sure but it's not cringy at all. instead it just makes me cry and cry.

I need a RJH in my life.

As I watched SR and JH plus F4 walking across the field towards DMZ, all the theories earlier about how SR will be sent back to South Korea was totally THROWN OUT the window! The writer really threw a curved ball at us (or at least me). And I nodded my head and exclaimed, yes, this feels right. JH was the one who found SR in NK, and he is the one who will be sending her back. Writer nim - you are awesome!!

     I agree with you there.

I read some post earlier that was disappointed the way Seri was sent back. In my opinion this method is pure gold. "To return the way you arrived", isn't it a strategy in one of those war strategies books? Also, I'm sure before episode 9 no one in the entire CLOY fandom has thought of this escaping method. I myself spent some time thinking about what other options could there be for Seri, but due to my limited experience with K drama and little knowledge about NK-SK tension, I thought there was no other way and RJH was going in circles. I should have more faith in RJH like Seri. She was so convinced that he could help her escape and she was right. Maybe that's why he loves her and not me, hehe :)

Kudos to writer-nim for having planned out all these escape scenarios so thoughtfully.

Just one minor thing though: This path crossing the border without any obstacles just seem too easy to be true. If reality was like that, I'm sure thousands of NK would have defected already.

But yeah, this is a fictitious border, where our OTP could stand next to the barbed wire and kiss symbolically. I'm not complaining :)

Hmm so our leads have recognised each other, and after all her attempts at escaping, we are back at the start, where she literally has to cross the DMZ? Say what???

I think it's a brilliant idea that RJH has his team on watch and he walks her back where she came from. It sounds simple, but no one in this forum has discussed about this before ep 9, hasn't it? It actually tells me how thoughtful the writer was when she planned out all these escapes for Seri. To return the way you arrived. Pure gold.

However that walk back seems too easy to be true. I'm sure if it's just a straight path with no obstacles like that, thousands of NK have defected over the years already.

  10. I bet the entire CLOY forum is going crazy right now because of that adorable video of compliments for HB and SYJ. How cute is that "Oppa" coming from SYJ. My heart even melts hearing her calling him "oppa", let alone his heart.

Also, through the compliments I find HB and SYJ are quite similar to their characters in CLOY. He, serious and her, playful.

Awww, look what they've done to me.

Lesson: don't fall for his dimples and her smile eyes :)

And if HB is off to film a movie after this, means no interviews of our OTP together :(

Comrade, please tell me what movie is HB about to film after CLOY? I just read a hot news about an hour ago from my country stating that another high class Korean actor about to be leaked personal information, and this person 'is going to film another movie after the drama which was just aired last month'. Then I read your post. What a coincidence. I know we don't discuss anything else besides CLOY, but I wasn't aware HB was to make a movie after this drama. Any info?

On the other hand, the main villain is in NK (Oh Man Seok as Cho Cheol-gang is so good), the second leads are in NK (their characters need to develop/grow more), and the stakes are much higher in NK (life and death, the downfall of RJH's family). There is also death of RJH's brother- I hope Man Bok will finally make a choice (putting his life and family on the line)  to help RJH which will bring down the villain. So unless all the key characters go to SK, there is no reason why the story should move to SK, I think.

My take is that the "journey" itself and developments of the characters because of their interactions with each other is  the story itself, and NK is where that happens.

I second this! Also I can't leave those funny people behind yet- the ducklings, the ahjummas!

I hope we wrap things up in NK soon and see how the star-crossed lovers develop being apart from each other. Its fun and all, but I feel we have been teased of the "She's going home - She is nearly caught - She can't go home" loop without much plot development.

Rationally I agree with this..but emotionally, my heart still longs for more views of NK, of that little village, where Seri joins in the ahjummas' quarrels and the ducklings' banters.

k drama and the fictitious, romanticized north korea has converted me. I now prefer NK to SK. I need help :tounge_xd:

Also want to add a few minor scenes in Ep 8 that really stood out to me :

    1) When SR sat SJ and his assistant (?) down and conducted a meeting with them on how they will plan her escape. That was so funny cuz she's back to being the controlling CEO she is back in South Korea. Love all the comic relief in between the emo scenes

    2) The super funny and yet touching scene of SD's mom in her morning hangover when she had NO recollection of the secrets revealed to her (LOL) and then that final moment where she held SD's hand and said she only wanted her to be happy. From comic scene to an emo one this time!

Salute to the writer and the director for these scenes and script!!

I totally agree with you! There is no filler scene in this episode as each scene contains many meanings and emotions. I also chuckled when I watched Seri conducting the mini meeting-I love to see that leader personality in her. She also made me realize that JH and she had been very serious about planning her escapes and they have thought of every possible ways. I guess it's really time to get intervention from someone with higher authority such as JH's dad otherwise they're going in circles.

I also love the scene where SD's mom holding SD's hand. At first I was a little nervous, wondering what kind of secret that weak Pyo Chi Su spilled when he drank with SD's mom, then seconds later relieved because the suspense turned into a comical situation as the mom didn't remember anything herself, then emotional one as she held the daughter's hand.

One thing I want to point out is how those female villagers easily changed their loyalty from SR to Dan just by some little gifts given to them. The rather realistic portrayal of these villagers make me love them, then not love them, then love them...and just like with character GSJ, or the North Korean butler who worked for GSJ, or SD's mother... the unpredictability in their behaviors as incidents happen make the story suspenseful.

I so enjoyed that part. To SR a fancy materialistic diamond ring is not as valuable as the love she received from JH and those villagers.

Also, does SR buying that watch remind you guys of O'Henri short story- where the wife cuts her hair to buy her husband a pocket watch chain (and the husband sold his watch to buy the wife a set of combs)?
