Ok,  I don’t understand what happened at the consulate in Japan. The head of the consulate was not supportive of his compatriots. Also, the wife of an American should get the citizenship by marriage. Why this was not taken into account?  Why Eugene was convicted of treason? The judge didn’ t accept his explanation. Why? He was chased by gansters and so missed the ship. Who can said the opposite? The soldiers at the consulate saw the gangsters. It makes no sense to me.

Because he's the descendant of Joseon? Kyle tried to back him up......but to no avail...

KES proves why she is one of the greatest drama writers of our time...

Although she has endured unkind words both written and said by others because of Mr Sunshine.  Still her story and even this latest view shows the pictures and characters that were in her mind and in her heart as well.  I admire that she always stays true to herself and her work....

She continues to show so many examples although a piece of fiction.  Still there is no denying the flow of emotions and feelings that she wanted us to understand and feel or the struggles and pain that she captured so well that makes one feel as if it is real...

I haven't even finished this episode because this one view honestly hurt my heart.

How does one describe or show a conflict & war or the suffering & pain that it brings.

How does one make it understandable & relatable to all those who will see.

Maybe by simply showing it through a mans love for his wife.

A strong and courageous man who is seen broken, crying and singing softly and tenderly to a wife who can no longer hear him or see his face.

With tears flowing and his strong arms wrapped around her and still I am stuck in the view of her hanging with that lingering sound of him saying...

Let her down...  She's my wife...

Many times, AeShin was quoted saying " i dont regret every decision that i had made"

I feel like KES is using AS to reaffirm her stance in every decision she has made in the production and casting of Mr Sunshine.

So she should kill Takashi Mori to ensure Eugene's security. She did nothing and she assumed that nothing would happen for half a year? I'm surprised that Mori did not get rid of his old friend. Eugene did not kill him, though he probably had lots of opportunities. The plot started to be strange in episode 20 - it looks poor because it does not make sense :)

Takashi Mori is madman/villain and kill cadet from Royal Military Academy, japanese major and two innocent soldiers, he kill Hongpa without hesitation and hanged her on the bridge for public view.

Kill Takashi so that Japan has excuses to bring in more troops to Joseon?

Eugene couldn't kill him easily, he's affiliated to US marine troop. It's not as easy as that.

Not even Takashi dares to kill Eugene, because US would have excuse to atk Japan.

Yes, the writers have spoiling this thread - her two disappearances and strange sentences.

Her transformation is so idiotic and childish that I try to look for meaningful solutions without material (life in the forest, thoughts, doubts, problems) which has been cut out. She began to behave oddly after escaping and hiding in the forest.

    Edit:

    @kansas424

ok, it has some sense but instead of hiding it, she should reveal the truth to him. He could have died this year - murder/assasination. They both dislike each other after what happened

Reveal to him wouldn't make him leave though.

And her action atitude behavior etc weren't idiotic. Her family was destroyed by the japaneese and lee wan ik, it's only natural for her to seeks revenge against them, as well as rid them off Joseon.

@kansas424Ah! Good find about that young noble disguised as a Japanese soldier. EC did keep saying to AS that he was training her future comrades. So far, I have been pretty lukewarm to the introduction of the young nobles but now I am really curious to see how they factor into the story - could this be a mission on behalf of RA/King or part of some personal mission of Eugene/Ae shin?

I think these young lads will form a new RA under Eugene's watch. They wont be under direct command of the king though imo.

Cant wait to see all these unfold. There were talks about this young lad is modeled after the first korea prime minister,

@rubie they might be acting as spy or send by Eugene to protect AeShin on his behalf.. hahah, six more to go......cant wait.

Hi guys! I’m new to this thread! I just drop here to say hi to everybody and say how much i love this drama especially the trio bromance and the chemistry.. tbh, i find that Eugene-AeShin chemistry is just so so, but i really like Gu Dong Mae and Hui Seong chemistry with everyone.. hopefully this drama will have a happy ending to everyone..:)

welcome mate, you're right about the drama, it's fascinating !!

Respectfully disagree about the bold part though, hehe. I find their chemistry blooming. The subtleness of their relationship is just so tickling. And it seems they have advanced further as portrayed by Ep 18. How they casually find comfort in one another, hold hand naturally, and kneel down over his girl to explain the whole situation of his grandpa whil calming her down and assure nth bad gonna happen to him (grandpa)? Just perfect. Cheers!!

Someone from twitter spotted the guy wearing japaneese troop uniform at the back of AS is one of the EC's student. Are they spy or something? Or to escort AS to somewhere?

All of those emotions probably. Apprehensive at first because of the elders gathered, initial confusion once the Japanese entered, giving way to her regal anger at their audacity and ending with inner relief to see Eugene saunter in on his horse. And I do think that as soon as Eugene spoke about the American legation needing to talk to her, she must have realized that he was doing this for her protection. Notice her face after she tells Ms. Haman to fetch her sedan chair, she looks up at Takashi with a mixture of mocking and smugness.

She did realize that EC was trying to protect her by taking her in as stated in their conversation. There's a instant recap where EC was saying about "protecting her, because i can", which happened to be in delegation as well over the missing gun event ROFL

About grandpa Go: it is true that previews are misleading (on purpose!) but thinking that he would ever entrust his beloved granddaughter to a thug, one he knows to be an outlaw, it is not possible. Eugene is better placed, even though he is an American, someone who ceased to be a Joseon man as well as Dong Mae. The difference between them is that one is an outlaw and the other one is not. Moreover, Eugene as American is “almost” untouchable, and he can provide real protection, which, at this stage, nobody else can provide. And, she loves him. Grandpa is really an open minded man for that times, in the end.

I believe also that the hypothesis about grandpa Go having asked Dong Mae to cut AeShin hair  can’t be real. He is a scholar teacher of neo confucianism in which the integrity of the body is a part of its philosophy. He would never ask or give permission for such a thing. If it was true anyway the meaning of the haircut as a way to cut family ties, I don't see how this can prevent the vilains from picking on AeShin anyway. Blood is thicker than water is the saying. They will never feel safe if the daughter of Go San Wan is still alive...

Anyone that understand AeShin well enough, should realize that cutting her hair off will not keep her grounded at all and quit being RA.

Also, her grandpa would never humiliate AeShin in public just to keep her safe.

Too bad, i think Grandpa Go is gonna lose his life in a tragic way this weekend.....

I am just gonna leave this tweet here for everyone to scratch their head because I am confused.

A man who will protect AeShin by any means. (eugene checked)

A man who will not allow any mistake along the way (eugene checked)

If you check the background, grandpa is obviously talking only to EC.

A fantastic MV of EuShin just to ease the tense from last episode.

So the significance of cutting a noble woman's hair is to humiliate her in front of the public. Was the humiliation a strategy of DM to make her stop on what DM perceives she will do against Joseon's enemies later on? DM thinks that WI will now find out that AS parents are part of the Righteous Army and that AS could also be a member and will be in danger. So DM is still trying to protect AS from evil people in a brusque manner. Bad boy DM.

The problem remains as in DM didn't prevent her from any danger by doing so. Wan Ik and Japan troop leader aren't fixated on cutting the family ties thingy by cutting her hair. They already suspect AS and most likely, if the preview is anything to go by, will go full blown in hunting her down.

So the excuse of "protecting her" is no longer valid to justify such act.
And if you really love a girl, you should be able to protect things that she treasures, not by taking all of it away.
Im curious how Eugene gonna react to all this, maybe his relationship with Aeshin will be found out by Dong Mae in next episode, and that gonna affect the dynamic of the trio once again.

6 episode left, there's still so much yet to be unfold. KES is truly genius!!

Allow me to begin by thanking and quoting @rubie  for this post. I've added red highlights to our superb cast here in MrSS, for whom no amount of superlatives do justice.  But congrats especially to Kim Tae-Ri for this most well deserved and sustained recognition.

I'm not sure why it's so quiet here after Ep 17, which in my view was the finest one so far. Blew my mind. Made me proud to be a Korean person just to be associated with the writer of this story in a distant way (like I am to Abraham Lincoln or Father Abraham for that matter). I've never said that about any drama, but this was one perfection of an episode.

Byun Yo-Han's performance at the pool table, their most tender dialog, blew my mind. Ae-Sin must've had a weak-kneed moment at least for a second. But the writer-nim, with her imagination and creativity in introducing such a character arc for Hui-Sung, starting from such a louse of a man struggling to rid himself of his horrid parentage, turning everywhere for relief from his guilt (I want to coin it the Korean Yang-ban - 양반 nobleman - guilt), but just at the most crucial juncture of his life, to the only person for whom his action might work to save his soul, so to speak, he does the absolute right thing, the righteous thing in loving her in the way she desires. I've seen other pro-Japanese playboy turn patriotic for the sake of his one true and deserving love (since Han Ji-Min's pic is above, her part in the old 'Captial Scandal' comes to mind) story, but this scene at the pool table today was in a league of its own from start to finish. Bravo to Writer-nim. Then, too, Hui-Sung's mother's apology to Ae-Sin's aunt/stepmom was soo well done, most poignant dialog - every single one of these actors and actresses have elevated their acting chops a few notches - that scene also complemented her son's righteous act and gave closure to the matter for me.:heartbreak::innocent::innocent:

Goo Dong-Mae, I really thought he was done. I didn't watch any previews so I couldn't imagine this happening already. But that was soo well done. I cried. He wanted candy and was grumpy that he didn't get service. The little butcher-shop boy who had to pretend to be so tough when he jumped into young Ae-Sin's palanquin, he just wanted some candy, just so elated that Ae-Sin had kept her promise and held her end of the bargain, paying him, then thanking him from the heart for his genuine concern for her grandfather. And, too, as he lied there bleeding to death and coughing up blood, he thought of how worthy a thing it was that he had done for her grandfather (since he was promptly shot for it), how worthy a thanks she had paid him - it was enough for him to be satisfied, but I wonder if it gave him a supernatural will to live, to beat his luck for the day, to live one more day, for his Ae-Sin. We all know the answer.:scream::skull::heartbreak::cold_sweat::innocent:

Then Eugene, who has it so easy, so easy that he can tease Ae-Sin and tell her the flowers were more beautiful than the woman (Ae-Sin), much to her jealous rage (silence), but ah, again, when it most counted, against the completely unexpected, his old Japanese 'friend's attempted rape of Ae-Sin's household - of course none other than Mr SunShine on his high horse enters from out of nowhere. I don't know why, but at the moment I had forgotten to remember that he would enter just like that, was just enraged along with Ae-Sin at what was unfolding before my eyes in her household.:naughty::glasses::innocent:

So many other scenes.... Dong-Mae and Eugene's quiet exchange and convoluted "we're brothers now because I know you're Ssang-Nom (쌍놈 low-born) just like me" and "Oh but I looked the other way for you even when I knew you were a butcher why don't you do the same for me". Just so well said, and most of it translated just like that quite well.:phew:

This was such a happy day in dramaland for me, I can't ask for more.

Except, as you all know, I can't not, because the Sun is still Shining.... :tounge_wink:

Mr. Sunshine is officially the best drama i have even watched for the past 30 years. You should be proud of Korea, for such high quality production. Along with these excellence lineup of fine actors. There's no need of much skinship, i can feel the pureness and simplest form of love which existed back then, the actors can literally converse with their eyes, crazy acting skills.
