    Just watched episode 1 and thought it was a solid, strong start to the series. The script/plot wasn’t confusing at all and I like the embedded themes of identity and the sub-theme of humanity. I also didn’t have any problems with the production. Compared to other historical-fantasy K-dramas, this is show clearly has a stronger production. Ragaz and the kid who played teenage Tagon did very well and stole every scene they were in. Young boy Eunsoem is a cutie and good too.  KOB is so pretty, JDG looking good - the second leads left a strong impression from the get go. 

     

    Despite some stylistic similarity to GOT  - which is surprisingly minimal, especially for all the comparisons online. I am also not seeing any similarity or that this show is trying to be like a Korean GOT etc. On this note, I do think that this kind of thinking is why so many people dislike the show and find many faults. Like someone said - it was the same when Scarlet Heart - Moon Lovers came out. Someone also said that this show may not be popular with the older gen.; I disagree. I am 42 and didn’t find the show too young for my taste at all.

    I also enjoyed the mom + Aramun god scenes. The question really is: did the god used mom to bring E to the lark or did she bring the girl to the god? Let’s see....

    @kimino Finally! For the photo above lol. Very Adam and Eve imagery lol.

     

    I am pleasantly surprised to see the ‘most romance’ line from the news above too since most of the emphasis has been on the politics from everything we have read and seen. I am glad they aren’t revealing too much about the fine details of the plot. It will indeed be interesting how the romance will be a triangle and or a square?!?

    I am excited! While I am annoyed at the GoT reference, it is understandable to convey this drama’s genre and ambition to be an entertaining political fantasy historical drama to probably viewers that may not be familiar with Asian dramas etc. I think most serious Asian drama fans - can see the potential and how amazing it can be and so no need to compare to GoT. It is ambitious to compare lol (not that GoT is perfect). Anyways - can’t wait for June and I am sooo happy to have Netflix.

    I finally saw the last 6 episodes. The last battle was indeed epic! It ended right after which was to be expected and I guess I can see why fans were like ahhh cliff hanger but lucky we have season 2 coming and for those of us - the novels!

    CFY will be greatly missed - he really made NQ come to life. Like I said, I will give season 2 a chance anyways. 

     

    Near the end, I made a nicknamed Windblown Leechy LQ lol. It is funny how they made him ‘dark’ complete with eye makeup at then end lol. Is this actor returning as LQ?

     

    Also does anyone know when the orchestrated or instrumental soundtrack will be released. I see the theme songs on iTunes but I want the song from the main titles at the beginning of each episode. Thx.

    I haven’t been reading too much here by will come back after I finish their series.

     

    I just caught up to episode 54 and the pacing and how the story is told is slightly off. The fight scenes are still good but not as good as in earlier parts, Fuzi and his food is now really a running joke lol, but in all- I am looking forward to the end (still sad about many cast departing S2 but understandable).

    I must be too old like Gu Gu Bai Qian because these ship discussions just do nothing for me lol - I am so over it but please continue to discuss - I just skip skip.

     

    For me, I don’t want a drama to be only about ‘love’ between the main leads or side characters. Yes, it is an important part of a story but life has more interesting stories when touching upon other types: friendship, loyalty, survival and so on...:

     

    I am also not a fan of nitpicking that a drama must follow the novel to 100% and everything be perfect etc. I believe that this series is one of the most honest to the books adaptations I have seen. It has been an absolute treasure to watch. I can’t believe season one will end soon and so I will continue to read the novels - volume 20 was just released here.

     

    Sad to see many people making terrible ‘ugly’ comments re SS and SYR. To me she has her own unique, natural beauty and I was so happy that producers just didn’t cast someone that meets the shallow beauty criteria at the expense of acting skills or being true to SS’s characteristics. 

     

    Ok back to my Christmas wine and hope everyone has a safe and wonderful holidays.

    I just watched 42 - 46Yey!

    NQ finally reunited with SS. I love the realistic tension of having them go through readjusting phase after separation and new dynamics & people in the mix. I love the burial scene with NQ and SS too. All the flashbacks to Master Yan Se made me teary. Finally LQ gets interesting as a character and I have to say his messy snow begged look was the best he has looked on the show lol. I laughed out loud on several scenes with minor characters (esp. the SS in prison scenes) overall enjoyable and can’t wait for subs for 47 onwards.

    This. I am a novel fan but I don’t hate MSS. I have watched all the scenes (never fast forwarding) and I do agree with you. Both NQ and MSS had crushes that weren’t so serious and despite all the flirting, I don’t think NQ was ever really serious about MSS. Eldest brother may be the real catalyst in getting them all to think on it. But like in life, what you think and what is reality doesn’t align. Re MSS - I actually enjoy all the scenes and didn’t feel it dragging at all. The main plot was always moving and I think NQ was learning, maturing and he needed her help etc. 

     

    Dylan looks so much better in modern fashion lol.

    The scenes of people finding out about SS having a Shifu and chess games are cute. Everyone is really clueless about SS’s potential and abilities.

     

    Gah the battle between Master YS vs Master WGM was soooooo emotional and yet funny (paper rock scissors, the rainbow, the fireworks turning into the milky way gah!) I cried laughed (T.T). So beautifully filmed and acted too. I have enjoyed their scenes as teachers to NQ and SS so much. And even having SS as a witness but the real witness are also 2nd bro and CPP. I have to watch 41 Raw just to see how it goes.

    Been staying away to avoid spoilers and just finished 37.

    Another good episode and that arrow shot at LQ at the end was soooooo satisfying! NQ breaks another level due to CPP’s ‘instant’ hot and sour soup and thinking of SS was brilliant lol. CPP as a kid was also cute - wonder why he is intimidated by Old Priest of Light. 

     

    I understand that many people are invested Re ‘ships’ but this show should be considered beyond this aspect.

    The part where NQ says SS is his life was sweet and he talks about her all the time in the wilderness! Even though he is with MSS, I think it says a lot about NQ coming to realization etc.

     

    Oh the ring!!!! Does his mean that Sister #3 knows something about NQ’s identity as the chiild of Hades?!?! I was wondering when he was going to use his gifts. Makes me want to buy an advent calendar for myself for some strange mixing of watching this show and with the holidays coming up.

     

    A new villain and a really good one! Another fantastic episode where the stories from the past Re Junior Uncle falls into place! 

     

    Thank goodness the next episode has been subbed! Gah so good!

    One more thing that this show makes me crave is Chinese style hand made noodles. I have always love noodles but I am so tempted to make my own version of the wide noodles with Sichuan peppers, spring onions and fried egg lol. Every time I saw SS makes it on the show, I really crave it. Drools. Now I am hungry but it’s 11:24 pm here so noooo - I will go to bed and look forward to tomorrow being Wednesday etc.
