  1. In real life, I would probably really like Gaon. He's upright but also young and naive and that combo can lead to self-righteousness. I don't dislike him in the drama, I just find gray characters more interesting. I suspect Gaon will get more gray as the drama goes along, and I look forward to it. Right now, we are seeing everything through his black/white POV, and it's natural that would rub some the wrong way.

  2. 30's wife is crazy violent. I can understand wanting to hurt someone in her situation but not actually doing it.

That said, I think 30's husband and his mistress are the writer's one OTP and she's went hard painting the mistress as a saint and the wife as a sinner. They are the least interesting characters for me, as a result.

The PIL's witness their DIL beat up their son and MIL only offers up a weak "Use your words." They've inserted themselves into that marriage before but can't say "This is unacceptable. You are both unhappy and this marriage is toxic. Get a divorce" after witnessing that violence. They gossip about it later but only after going home and raving about how mistress is a model woman whom their ancestors would love. Speaking of the mistress, she mentioned the violence in her fantasy rant but was more focused on BHR throwing away her MIL's food and not cooking. It came across to me as "BHR is bad because she isn't a proper housewife who happily visits her in-laws. Oh yeah, she is violent too." Let's just say the writing made me really uncomfortable.

Now, onto the more interesting, and creepy, storyline with the 40's couple. This can't be the 40's husband's first affair. He breaks it off, dangling some false hope and then takes his wife to a hotel to make her feel like a queen. So gross. So smooth. I don't think he can talk his way out this time, but I don't know what 40's wife will do. Probably stay with him for the time being because we have the stepmom's poisoning storyline.

Did the engineer submit that story, and if so, can he please be interested in 50's wife. I don't really like him, but she needs something to do. Her story is stalled.

  3. Byun-ho had a child with someone else while married and then married her yet his mother and GN's dad are acting like it's shameful that GN was with another man. Gross.

The noble idiocy quad is so frustrating. At least Ye-seul and his dad's relationship is better but his singing career is kaput for the moment.

Why did they have to make that guy the rapist.

Geez, Gwang-sik's new guy sure moves fast per the preview.

Was it just me or did others feel that the scenes at the beginning of the drama were similar to the ones in Joker? It seemed too uncannily similar too me. It gave me the same feel.

It was similar, probably on purpose. IIRC the writer said one of his inspirations was The Dark Knight and he wanted Yohan to be Batman with Joker's personality.

So, my guessing, they didn't want to address the divorce, also maybe because they know, the DIL will not listen to them. Ever! She is who she is. So the PIL just leave her to make the decision by herself.

I think she would have listened to them, before this episode anyway. When she found out about the affair and pregnancy, she immediately headed to their house because she knew she needed them on her side. MIL is the one who convinced her to try to get pregnant. If they had suggested divorce without letting on how much they liked the mistress, I don't think she would have held out too long. She was unhappy too and getting some male attention had assuaged her worries a bit. After feeling betrayed by them though who knows what she will do.

Guauh...this drama is really something. Have not watch one were people was as mad as we all are.

Just one question...this drams is just 2 seasons right...I mean we really could not survive another season...

Who knows. It's almost halfway in and one wife still doesn't know, and she's the one with a lot to unpack given her background. I don't see how it can all be resolved in nine episodes, at least not at the writer's pace and considering all the time she wastes on inane conversations. It's really important to spend five minutes talking about sweet potatoes.

  7. I don't expect the parents to treat the mistress harshly. They can give her support, even like her, and keep boundaries ... Like not inviting her to live with them when their son is married to another woman. That is horribly cruel to their DIL. Hire the mistress a nurse. The truth is they adore her and never liked BHR, which is fine, but be honest about it instead of moving one pregnant woman in and suggesting the other woman stop working so she can get pregnant. Their voice carries weight. Divorce would have happened already if it wasn't for them. They know their son is unhappy. I really don't understand them. At least it looks like they will finally back a divorce next episode.

    How is anyone gaslighting BHR?

The parents met mistress because of BHR. It was her call to tell them to "take care of mistress", she even railroaded them telling them to buy a flat and to make sure to park mistress there so she is cut away from husband. Of course she didn't say so out of benevolent heart, but to restrict PSH's movement to her. I understand she doesn't want her husband to contact mistress, but don't forget he at the very least wanted to be there for his baby!

That's not a dastardly thing to do, it's quite the responsible and decent thing!

The only reason she really blew a gasket in there is because she saw this dinner scene where parents-in-law actually liked mistress and weren't wearing frowns. Clearly she knows she is lacking in that way, even before mistress showed up, she says the PIL don't like her - and honestly, why would they? It has not that much to do with her being a career woman, but because she is very disrespectful and doesn't care about them, unless they are of use to her (her being lonely because her parents are in Canada, her needing them to intervene with mistress).

I don't know about gaslighting but they've all certainly lied to her over and over again.

  9. Episode 31

They have to prolong the story for 19 more episodes so Ye-seul and his dad are both playing noble idiots with the women joining in. Sigh. Spare us and have them realize nobody cares except the dad and he's a loser like the rest of them.

Byun-ho's mom is the worst. I get why she wouldn't want GN as her DIL again, but lady, you are the one who started throwing food around in someone else's home and yet you are going to claim to be better than them. Please. I loathe her. I like Taeng-ja. At least she knows she is trashy.

  10. Seo-hyun is awesome, and I'm glad that she got as happy of an ending as she could as chairwoman and with Suzy is in her life.

I do find it funny that Ha-joon ended up being raised by his two moms like Ji-yong wanted, just not in his dishonest, demented way. It's a good arrangement. Hi-soo can return to acting, knowing that Ha-joon is in good hands.

I liked Soo Hyuk's scene with Seo Hyun but don't understand his character or relationship with the maid. Maybe the writer didn't either, which is why they mostly disappeared the second half. I thought he hated Hyowon and wanted a different life, but I guess he didn't want to forge his own path, he just wanted to be filthy rich but not the chairman. Whatever.

  11. Episode 30

And that happened ... Don't speed through yellow lights, kids. I wish the writer had skipped the double marriage drama that should not even be drama and just let it be about Ye-seul not being able to accept the aunt because that makes sense. His parents marital drama did a number on him.

Does the writer have mom issues. Everyone is a mess, and they all had horrible mothers (fathers too in Ye-seul and the Gwang sisters cases). The Ja sisters had an abusive mom. Maeng-ja was a horrible mom and Taeng-ja was a bad mom to her sons. Ye-seul's dad was sold into a marriage be didn't want and was checked out. He treated Ye-seul like dirt for 32 years; Ye-seul's mom lied about having cancer and laid the whole emotional burden on Ye-seul in her will. Byun-ho's mom is a piece of work.

5 minutes in and I'm clearly seeing how this script is so....... BAD. Even if you take into account lack of development, progress and character depth, the LINES ARE AWFUL.

They really are and were in Season 1 too, yet the ratings were high in Season 1 and keep going up each episode this season. It's not like there is even good/great acting across the board to make the lines palatable.

  13. Episode 29

I know double marriages within families was a no-no for a long time and there are still probably attitudes against it which is why drama writers like to use it as a storyline but this isn't even a potential stepsister/stepbrother relationship. Bong-ja is the aunt. Nobody should be breaking up because of this, whether Gwang-sik's dad and his noble blood has a cow or not. The bigger issue is Ye-seul's mom, dad and Bong-ja were all selfish and as a result, did a number on Ye-seul growing up and Gwang-sik, the one person who could offer him comfort and advice, is all mixed up in the family drama.

The other storylines kind of took a backseat. GN is into babies, or  baby, now, but I guess a baby looks alright compared to the rest of her life.

  14. This week's episodes did not make a whole lot of sense to me. Maybe they will satisfactorily fill in the gaps but there seem to be a lot of plot holes, which the drama had mostly avoided.

The Young Master and maid have had like two dates and are suddenly engaged with everybody being okay with it. Weird.

Hyowon has a lot of influence. That detective got a call from above to stop investigating whether Ji-yong had someone murdered but it's full steam ahead investigating his death even though on the surface, everything is explainable and Mother Emma's statement doesn't hold up. Okay.

I guess @tulip06 is probably right that HS could be faking amnesia to avoid testifying against someone but she's still lying to police.

  15. Episode 28

That was quick. Byun-ho and Gwang-nam are already on their way to happy little family. I guess neither really wanted the divorce, both just agreed so Byun-ho could be a father to his son. Byun-ho might cry for Maria, but he was always in love with Gwang-nam. Byun-ho's mom is going to flip out when she finds out Gwang-nam is back in the picture.

Jeez, Gwang-sik. She's usually the most sensible sister but then she turns around and is as dumb and horrible as the others. How about gently breaking the news to Ye-seul and her aunt instead of breaking up with Ye-seul and making him feel like a loser with her harsh words. Then she brings up him emigrating. You can't stop him from finding out, dummy

When Gwang-tae agreed to marry Gi-jin despite thinking he was poor, I actually liked her a tiny bit so of course, she was only pretending to be mad and is thrilled that his brother's rich and owns a building. Sigh. I do find her scenes with the brother much more entertaining than her romance. They have each other's number whereas Gi-jin is always going to be adoringly under her thumb.

Of course the dads think stealing money from bad guys is a good idea.

  16. I just remembered another moment that made me hate 50's husband: When he said that they should make a law that marriages end after 20 or 25 years because who wants to spend the rest of their lives with someone and kids would be grown so who cares. Some people do happily spend their lives together, you selfish RickRoll'D, and your son isn't grown, but you don't seem to care about him.

I am pretty certain that HS is faking her amnesia.

It seems suspicious. She is an actress. Did she not fall though? They spent episodes showing her lying there and now showing her at the top of the stairs. If she fell too, she should have injuries. I'm so confused.

Put me down as suspicious of Mother Emma. Everything we saw of her was after Ji-yong was dead. As she said, everybody would lie, including her, I suspect.

  18. I hate 50's husband more than the other two. His kids are hurt and angry, but instead of reaching out, at least texting them daily to let them know he loves them and is thinking about them, he's just decided they hate him and oh well, let's start over with a new baby. The 50s wife busted her butt for years, but he  casually dismisses her hard work packing him lunches. Trash.

The 40's husband is the grossest for me, cheating just because. I don't know if I would rather have my significant other cheat because they fell in love or just because they wanted their cake and to eat it too.

The 40's wife gets on my nerves, judging a kid because of what his dad did, managing her daughter's diet and grooming her to be the perfect wife/mother, but I think it's a different cultural mindset. Like how 30's parents, especially dad, reacted to the mistress.

  19. Episode 27

I'm probably way more entertained than I should be that Maria died right after getting everything she wanted. Byun-ho wailing 'Maria' and his horrible mother simultaneously telling him how unreasonable he had been to not fall at Maria's feet and to get over it was unintentional comedy gold. I was sick of his mom so glad he kicked her out, but that inevitably means Gwang-nam will eventually start helping with the baby. On one hand, I think she deserves better than that, on the other hand, the thought of Maria fuming wherever she is pleases me.

Gwang-sik should tell Ye-seul the truth instead of keeping quiet and per the preview, breaking up with him. He's going to find out the truth anyway, don't make it worse by confirming that he's not really her #1 like promised.

So Taeng-ja is the first love of her boss.

I really haven't cared about Gwang-tae's relationship but watching the truth come out was amusing, especially the Chairman's reaction.

  20. The fortune teller said Byun-ho will marry three times so either Maria dies or they break up, which I don't see happening after the recent episodes. The writer obviously plans for Byun-ho and Gwang-nam to end up together and about has to kill Maria at some point to make that happen, unless a near death experience changes Maria's personality. Despite everything, I actually have a soft spot for Gwang-nam and wish she would end up single, happily doing something she likes even if it may not be glamorous. It's okay not to want kids, but the writer is going to stick her with two and that piece of work MIL.

  21. Maria was so creepy, obsessed with a married guy for years, finally taking advantage when he was completely wasted. If she died on her honeymoon ... It shouldn't make me laugh, but I can't help it. Poor Blessing though. I knew it was coming with the chest pains and references to all of the medication she was taking.

I know k-dramas, or South Korea for that matter, don't take mental health seriously, but Gwang-nam tried to kill herself and had been suicidal in the past. She should be getting professional help. Since that's not going to happen, her family needs to stop telling her how useless she is. You can't work at the fish stand. You can't run a business, etc. Just let her try.

It's not going to be good when Ye-seul meets the bride.

Now it's the dad's turn to get himself into a situation because of money.
