Wow~ First Love is the highest rated ever! and it has 100+ episodes too! I loved the drama, altho the BYJ-CJW pairing was not so hot-shot back then

it was then in Winter Sonata the two really clicked ^^

wow...so many replies already...I'm sorry I didn't get to manage to update this thread but thanks to you guys who started all the discussion...you all know who you are ^ ^ anyway about old K-dramas, like Ripgal, I saw mostly Ahn Jae-wook's old dramas like Revenge and Passion, Goodbye My Love, Partner, and some re-runs of old dramas like First Love, which I liked because it focuses on family values, as well as Men in the Bathhouse with a young Kim Hee-sun in the cast in which I thought she was cute...just as what I said in my first post, I mostly saw old dramas in Arirang TV since they show these old cheesy dramas...you may find their lines cheesy but those were hit dramas back then, how would I also forget the drama Icing with Lee Jong-won and Jang Dong-gun, I had a crush on Lee Jong-won and Jang Dong-gun back at that time...but they still look good until now ^ ^...

and I'm watching Heo Jun now...that drama was so good...he was the male version of Lee Young-ae's role in Dae Jang Geum...

hmm my favorite would be Tomato...the good girl vs the jealous girl who pretends to be her friend...and i just really noticed that ppl loved to wear the brown/purplish lipstick..and i noticed how popular the thick platform shoes in the 90's.....

^ yeah the dark red lipstick worn by Korean Drama heroines during the 90's...I found it way too dark, really different from Korean dramas now where actresses doesn't wear makeup at all...

and how amazing that these old dramas get a 60+ in ratings unlike now that if you get a 20-30% the drama is considered a hit already...the highest K-drama rating nowadays hits from 30-50%...which compares the quality of Korean dramas back then and up to the present

My favorite actors from the 1990s would be Park Sang-won and Lee Jung-jae. PSW for his roles in Eyes of Dawn and Sandglass, and LJJ for Feelings and Sandglass. I thought Choi Min-soo was awesome in Sandglass too.

(BTW, it's so weird to see PSW and CMS in Legend, the MBC drama that's airing now. I finished Sandglass recently and nearly died when I saw them in Legend. Both guys are playing ancient baddies now and they wear these dangling earrings on both ears. It's surreal.)

Favorite dramas from the 1990s? Hands-down Eyes of Dawn and The Sandglass. Nothing comes close in terms of scripting, acting, emotional resonance, production quality and sheer heartbreak.

The first kdrama that I loved was Have We Really Loved, a 1999 production. It's since been replaced by other dramas that I love more but back in those days when I just discovered kdramas, HWRL was pretty special. It was my first Noh Hee-kyung drama and I've pretty much loved everything else that she has written (for example, Solitude, More Beautiful than a Flower, Goodbye Solo).

<News Excerpt> Koreans love to watch tv dramas and the number of dramas they produced is astonishing. Yet among these tv dramas, which are the ones that the audience want to watch again and again? Which are the most unforgettable drama love teams?

Korea's mtube.com from May 19 to 29 in cooperation with MBC and SBS ran a survey among 3,462 respondents in their respective websites. The first question posed was [Which Is Your Favorite TV Drama?]. Results showed that the drama series, MBC's <Eyes of Dawn> ,which created an uproar eleven years ago, and SBS's <Sha Lo> {Sandglass right?} topped the survey, with 29 and 28 percent of the votes respectively.

Among MBC's tv dramas, the classic Korean drama <Hotelier> came out second with 11.2 percent of the votes. The 1996-produced and the first Korean idol drama <A Wish Upon A Star> got 10.8 percent. The others to make it into the top five included the drama <Jealousy> filmed ten years ago and <M>.

A second survey was also conducted, on [Who Is the Most Compatible Couple in a TV Drama?]. Results run parallel to the votes on favorite tv dramas. Among MBC's most compatible couples, first place went to Choi Jae-sang - Chae Shi-ra of <Eyes of Dawn> with 17.3 percent. Choi Soo Jong, "When else would I feel the joy of founding a country if not in a historical drama"

47_0.jpg

"Historical drama specialist actor? Looking back, the type of acting I don't want to do is in historical dramas."

Choi Soo Jong is the main character of the KBS 1TV historical drama 'Dae Jo Yeong' (written by Jang Yeong Cheol, produced and directed by Kim Jong Seon and Yoon Seong Shik). Along with Song Il Gook of MBC's 'Jumong' and Yoo Dong Geun of 'Yeon Gae So Moon' airing on SBS, he will be taking part in the 'Goguryeoh Historical Drama Boom,' but at the same time he speaks of the difficulties of acting in a historical drama.

At a press conference held on the 24th, Choi Soo Jong spoke about the burden of being labeled an actor specialized in historical dramas.

He said that it was coincidental many of the historical dramas he starred in such as 'Tae Jo Wang Geon,' 'Taeyangin Lee Je Mah,' 'Hae Shin (Emperor of the Sea)' gathered much love from viewers but there aren't actually many in numbers. "In actuality, historical dramas are a genre that I don't want to do ever again each time I finish one," revealing the hardships in acting.

However, Choi Soo Jong once again chose a historical drama. He mentioned the reason being, "In a modern drama, no matter how wonderful the role is in which the character plays along with love, there is a limit to expressing manliness, but characters in a historical drama found countries and fight in grand scale battles. When else would a man be able to do such things."

In regards to being compared to the popular 'Jumong' of MBC and 'Yeon Gae So Moon' of SBS, he responded by saying it is no burden at all showing confidence. "Rather than being tied to the viewer rating, I am focusing on accurately delivering the history of Balhae through the drama to those who do not know it well."

The 100 episode (extended to 136) epic historical drama 'Dae Jo Yeong' draws the story of Dae Jo Yeong, the founder of Balhae that was the center of Asia for 230 years after the fall of Goguryeoh, and will start on September 16th.

Star Focus - Kim So-yeon

star01(107).gifstar02(97).gif

There is an actress who made her debut 14 years ago, but always looks fresh-faced and angelic. Today's STAR FOCUS sits down one-on-one with Kim So-yeon, an actress whose beauty and talent have never failed to mesmerize audiences.

Following last year, Kim So-yeon has been once again invited to the Pusan International Film Festival. This time she'll be introducing her short film "The Pictures" to the world.

"The Pictures," which has been invited to this year's Wide Angle section of the festival, is a heartwarming film. This 20 minute film portrays the friendship between a beautiful photographer and a young village boy who is secretly devoted to painting.

Having made her debut as a child actress, she quickly rose to stardom. She was still a teenager when she was cast as the lead in the 1997 film "Change." However, she delivered such a mature performance in the film that she became an instant household name in Korea.

She also received a lot of acclaim from audiences for her first villain role in "All About Eve." In this regard, she says that she was able to realize her dream of being recognized as a talented actress.

Kim So-yeon is an actress who exudes both innocence and confidence. Although she usually looks like a person as sweet and cheerful as a romance comics' heroine, the 26 year-old actress sometimes looks rather like a cold-hearted person due to her elegant appearance.

She also starred in the renowned director Hark Tsui's film "Seven Swords," which were jointly produced by Korea, Japan and China. Thanks to the film, which were selected as the opening film of the 62nd Venice International Film Festival, Kim was able to stand shoulder to shoulder with international stars.

However, she has not appeared in any major production since she starred in the 2005 TV drama "Autumn Shower."

Hence, a great many fans have long been awaiting Kim So-yeon's comeback.

By the way, we asked Kim So-yeon, who has now reached her golden age to marry, whether she was planning to tie the knot with someone?

Although Kim So-yeon has lived almost half of her life as an actress, her passion for acting has not faded away. In fact, she has always had a burning ambition to become a greater actress.

Although Kim So-yeon has had a long break, she has relentlessly prepared to make another great leap forward. She is at the moment reviewing several film and drama scripts to decide her upcoming work. We will look forward to seeing her great performances more often in the near future.
