Ryu Jun-Yeol and Shin Hyun-Bin cast in Netflix drama “Revelations”

Ryu Jun-Yeol and Shin Hyun-Bin  are cast in Netflix drama series “Revelations.” The drama series will also have Yeon Sang-Ho as the director and screenwriter and Choi Kyu-Seok as a co-screenwriter. The duo of Yeon Sang-Ho and Choi Kyu-Seok also wrote the original webcomic “Gyeshirok,” which “Revelations” is based off of and they previously wrote the webcomic “Jiok,” which they then adapted into the 2021 Netflix drama series “Hellbound.” Story for “Revelations” will follow a pastor played by Ryu Jun-Yeol and a detective played by Shin Hyun-Bin who are both driven by their respective beliefs.

“Revelations” will be available to stream sometime next year in South Korea.

Plot Synopsis by AsianWiki: Min-Chan (Ryu Jun-Yeol) is a pastor who runs a church in a small town with a mission for church planting. One day, a man named Yang-Rae walks into Min-Chan’s church. At first, Min-Chan is happy to see him, believing he is a new believer of the church. Min-Chan’s is disappointed when he realizes Yang-Rae is an ex-convict and he is wearing an electronic monitoring anklet. Min-Chan then receives a divine revelation from God that Yang-Rae is the person who kidnapped his son. Min-Chan believes that it is his divine calling to punish Yang-Rae for committing the crime.

Meanwhile, Detective Yeon-Hee (Shin Hyun-Bin) is in charge of the missing person case involving Min-Chan’s son. She is also continually haunted by the vision of her dead younger sister who died in a horrific crime in the past. Despite her devastated state of mind, she chases after Yang-Rae, who is the prime suspect in the missing person case, and looks into the suspicious paster Min-Chan.

Ryu Jun Yeol and Shin Hyun Been are joining forces for the first time in a new Netflix mystery thriller film titled Revelations. Directed by Yeon Sang Ho, known for his work on Train to Busan and the K-drama Hellbound, the movie was officially announced by Netflix on June 20.

Revelations centers around a pastor convinced that he has a divine mission to seek justice for a missing person by catching the perpetrator, while a detective haunted by visions of her deceased sister investigates the same case. The film delves into the impact of their beliefs on their choices and is based on writer Choi Gyu Seok's webtoon.

Director Yeon Sang Ho, known for his innovative exploration of life and death in the acclaimed Hellbound, joins forces with writer Choi Gyu Seok to unveil a new world in Revelations. With a reputation for incisive critiques of human nature in challenging times, Yeon Sang Ho will delve into the intricate connections between religion, faith, and morality in this compelling film.

Furthermore, Alfonso Cuarón, the celebrated Mexican director behind Gravity and the Oscar-winning Roma, will serve as executive producer for Revelations. Ryu Jun Yeol takes on the role of Pastor Min Chan, who is guided by divine revelations. Leading a church in a small provincial town on a pioneering mission, Min Chan faces a profound test when divine intervention reveals that Yang Rae, a visitor to the church, is the kidnapper of his son.

Shin Hyun Been plays Yeon Hee, a detective investigating Yang Rae, a suspect in a missing persons case, and the mysterious Pastor Min Chan. Yeon Hee struggles with haunting visions of her deceased sister, who fell victim to a tragic crime in the past.

Ryu Joon-yeol (The 8 Show) and Shin Hyun-bin (Tell Me That You Love Me) have been cast in Netflix’s new thriller movie Revelations, the latest collaboration between filmmaker Yeon Sang-ho (Parasyte: The Gray) and writer Choi Gyu-seok (Hellbound). Yeon and Choi also worked together to create the original webtoon in 2022 and – very interestingly – this new film version will also have filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón (Roma) as the executive producer.
