Miss Night and Day: Episodes 11-12

MNAD12-00006.jpg

Hang onto your hats, guys, things get a little intense this week! Romance aside, the plot thickens on our murder mystery, and everything we thought we knew about this show blows up in our faces.

EPISODES 11-12

It turns out that last week’s ending was not a misdirection and Ji-woong actually overheard Won’s confession to Mi-jin! But first, he spots cigarette butts beside a van outside her house, and he takes a picture of the number plate to check the registration. In addition to overhearing his rival in love beat him to a confession, Ji-woong gets rained on, and he ends up calling in sick the following day. Hehe. A mad-at-you-but-still-worried-about-you Mi-jin visits Ji-woong’s apartment with a large serving of her mom’s — stolen — dishes, while I’m left with the crumbs of wrist grabs and sleepy “Don’t go-s.” But at this point, I’ll take whatever I get.

Mi-jin’s tender loving care reminds Ji-woong of his mom, and he opens up about her disappearance. Despite people’s varying opinions — some said she died, while others said she ran away — Ji-woong says that his mom promised to come back, and he doesn’t want to believe that her first and last promise to him was a lie. This is why he returned to Seohan. Mi-jin tears up while Ji-woong talks about his mom, and the story reminds her about her missing aunt as well.

When Ji-woong resumes back to work, Myung-duk, the king of misunderstandings, brings up Won’s crush and says the feelings are mutual. Ji-woong now thinks Mi-jin and Won are an item — meanwhile, Myung-duk was referring to Soon because he assumed Ji-woong knows about Won × Soon ship. Tsk. I really want to smack both men for confusing themselves. Have they never heard about being specific and mentioning the actual names of the people being referred to instead of making assumptions and jumping into conclusions? Then Myung-duk goes on to make things worse by declaring his support for Won’s relationship because “love isn’t a crime.” Pfft. I bet Mr. Prosecutor thinks this brand of love is a crime. But what is he going to do about it?

If you guessed Ji-woong will march straight to Mi-jin’s house to declare his love for her, you’re partially correct. He does drop by her house, and Mom ropes him into staying for dinner and staying forever. Mi-jin arrives home to meet a feast, and even Ga-yeong and her dad are present. “What’s going on?” Mi-jin wonders. “I think it’s your engagement dinner,” Ga-yeong replies. Lol. But it’s actually aunt Soon’s birthday and Mom is celebrating in her absence. She must really miss her sister.

After dinner, Mi-jin sees Ji-woong out and they end up talking about why he was at her house. “I was just passing by, and it happened by coincidence,” he says, and here we go again. Just tell her you wanted to know if she’s really dating Won or not! Sigh.

Since the topic came up over dinner, Mi-jin briefly tells Ji-woong about her missing aunt without giving too much away. And in turn, he tells her that her dad has found out that she fell victim to the job scam from week one. It happened that a police summons came in for Mi-jin — she’s been implicated in a fraud case probably because the scammer used her bank book — and a worried Dad informed his prosecutor son-in-law-to-be. Ji-woong, in turn, had no choice but to tell Dad about the scam even though he promised Mi-jin to keep it a secret from her parents.

On his part, Dad blames himself for being an incompetent father and not saying anything when Mi-jin was pressured to get a civil servant job. But I don’t think Mi-jin resents her dad at all. Dad is a man of few words, and even his simplest of gestures — shining her shoes, saving up to buy her a work outfit, and his “You’re doing great!” — are enough to show Mi-jin that he cares.

The search warrant for Hwadong Medical Center is finally approved, and Myung-duk and Soon lead the search and seizure team to the hospital. Soon runs into the suspicious nurse who took her blood sample the other day, and unsuspectingly follows her to get the result of the blood test. Oh no! Back in the office, Ji-woong fails to get an arrest warrant for Cheol-gyu, and to worsen matters, Won informs him that Mi-jin is not answering her phone. The location tracker reveals that Mi-jin is at Hwadong, and that’s enough to alarm Ji-woong because what is she doing in Cheol-gyu’s vicinity of all places?

Ji-woong storms the hospital in search of Mi-jin, around the same time Myung-duk realizes that Soon is missing. Unfortunately, neither of the men see Cheol-gyu — who’s disguised in a surgical mask and scrubs — wheeling out our unconscious heroine. Ji-woong recalls his insistence on not informing the police that Mi-jin is a witness in the raincoat case because he doesn’t trust them — and knowing that his mom disappeared in the process of giving a witness statement makes this trust issue understandable. Unfortunately, since the police are not aware of a witness, they were unable to investigate the case from Mi-jin’s witness angle or at least protect her. Instead, Ji-woong told Mi-jin to trust him to keep her safe, and now that she’s in the wind, he cannot stop blaming himself.

Backing up a bit, we learn that Cheol-gyu was behind the van parked outside Mi-jin’s house. He sent a private investigator to tail Soon, but Soon was always going to a different house (Mi-jin’s house) instead of the one she has on her employee record (Ga-yeong’s house). The PI reports that the house belongs to Soon’s older sister (Mi-jin’s mom) and that whenever he loses sight of Soon, her niece (Mi-jin) appears. Cheol-gyu and the PI then theorize that Soon and Mi-jin are up to some clandestine activities. Thus Soon’s kidnap from Hwadong to find out what “both women” are plotting.

In the present, a restrained Soon wakes up in the basement storage at Hwadong, and this is the point where the drama reveals its biggest misdirection yet. It turns out that Cheol-gyu is not the big bad we assumed he is — he’s just a loving husband, heartbroken over his wife’s death. And no, he didn’t kill her. His wife went missing, and in the process of tracking her whereabouts, he visited the bank to request that they inform him about activities on her bank account. The real Soon, as we know, worked in Seohan bank, and since she was on friendly terms with Cheol-gyu back then, she attended to him when he came around.

Unfortunately, Cheol-gyu’s wife turned up dead — this is the body the police took out of that building in Ji-woong’s flashbacks — and Soon vanished. The PI — who has been in Cheol-gyu’s employ following his wife’s disappearance, and now tailing our heroine in the present — theorizes that Soon killed Mrs. Wife, and disappeared after she figured Cheol-gyu was on to her since he came to the bank. Wow! Did this PI even graduate from private investigator school? He has the worst theories, and Cheol-gyu stupidly swallows them all.

20240728062202_Choi-Jin-Hyuk-Lee-Jung-EuLee Jung Eun Upsets Choi Jin Hyuk By Quitting Her Job In "Miss Night And Day"

Jul 28, 2024
by E Cha

Lee Jung Eun will attempt to stop leading a double life on the next episode of JTBC’s “Miss Night and Day”!

“Miss Night and Day” is a romantic comedy starring Apink’s Jeong Eun Ji as Lee Mi Jin, a job seeker in her twenties who suddenly starts aging into her fifties whenever the sun rises. Choi Jin Hyuk stars as Gye Ji Woong, a prosecutor who winds up becoming entangled with both Lee Mi Jin and her older-looking alter ego Im Soon (played by Lee Jung Eun).

Spoilers

Previously on “Miss Night and Day,” Im Soon became nervous about her identity being found out due to the letters casting suspicion on one of the senior interns. On top of that, Lee Mi Jin felt guilty about deceiving Gye Ji Woong after they began dating.

In newly released stills from the drama’s upcoming episode, Im Soon tries to put an end to her double life by telling Gye Ji Woong that she’s quitting her job. With Im Soon not even giving him a reason for her sudden decision to quit, Gye Ji Woong looks both startled and upset by her announcement.

However, because Gye Ji Woong has already noticed that Im Soon always seems to be wherever Lee Mi Jin is, his curiosity and suspicions have yet to be resolved—and it remains to be seen whether Im Soon leaving the prosecutor’s office will truly mark the end of her precarious double life.

She tells him to keep it a secret until things are alright, hiding her condition and hoping to find a solution one day.

Ji-ung understands that something is bothering her and assures her that he will always protect her, which means that she can lean on him when she is in trouble. The next day, Byung-duk eyes Ji-ung and Lim Sun who are texting each other and wonders if something is going on between them. Ji-ung’s actions following this only make Byung-duk confused as he takes things easy and sends Lim Sun out for some work. On her way there, she runs into Ko Won who reminds her about his feelings as she confesses to being in love with someone else.

Ko Won understands but doesn’t mind her not having any feelings for him, instead, he tells her that he just to tell her about his feelings. With this, he tells her to stop feeling uncomfortable and avoiding him while she runs away. Later, Ji-ung goes out for dinner with Byung-duk and he is annoyed by him smiling the whole time while texting Mi-jin.

Elsewhere, Mi-jin remembers that she has left her phone at work and rushes there to get it back, while worried that it may reveal her secret. She soon arrives at work while Ji-ung also enters right behind her. Mi-jin gets her phone but hears Ji-ung’s voice which makes her hide. She somehow manages to get out of the office behind his back but ends up getting caught by her when leaving the building.

Ji-ung is surprised to see Mi-jin and assumes that she is here to meet him; taking her to his office. Byung-duk arrives soon after and the two are shocked when they notice how Mi-jin knows her way around the office. The time soon passes by and Mi-jin leaves while Ji-ung assures to wait for her to come around with her secrets.

The next day, Ji-ung meets Chul-kyu who is impressed by the amount of data he has collected. While he continues to refuse to say anything, he asks to meet Lim Sun and tells her that even if he agrees to accept her bizarre statements from last time, how would she go about catching the criminal?

She tells him that she smelt something last time and describes it while assuring him that this can help them find the culprit. With this, Chul-kyu finally hands over the information Ji-ung wanted for this case, which leaves Ji-ung confused. Lim Sun tells him that she has risked her life for this which only confuses him further, but he goes ahead conducting his investigation.

Miss Night and Day Episode 14 Recap and Review: The Real Killer is Finally Revealed

Miss-Night-and-Day-Episode-14-Recap-5-69

Episode 14 unveils a series of intricate revelations and intense confrontations. The episode kicks off with a bombshell: a woman reports Na Ok-hui for impersonation, asserting that she knew the real Na Ok-hui, and the intern currently using the name was a fraud. This revelation prompts Soon to get Mr. Joo to conduct a thorough background check on the woman making the accusation.

Miss-Night-and-Day-Episode-14-Recap-1-15

As the night falls, Mi-jin meets Ji-ung for dinner. During their conversation, Ji-ung inquires if Mi-jin plans to return to her studies. Mi-jin expresses her ambivalence, sharing that while she doesn’t mind studying, it’s the despair and loss of hope she dreads. After dinner, Ji-ung drops Mi-jin off at her parents’ house, where she wakes up the next morning as Lim Sun.

On what starts as a typical Sunday, Mi-jin’s plan to remain inconspicuous is thwarted when Ji-ung unexpectedly visits. He is determined to understand why Mi-jin avoids seeing him in the mornings. Mi-jin’s parents, spotting Lim Sun fleeing from their house, chase after her, puzzled by the presence of this strange woman.

The police eventually catch Lim Sun. Although her face is concealed, Mi-jin’s parents’ relentless harassment leads her to reveal her identity in frustration. She recounts an old story about being pressured to buy the jacket she’s wearing. Ji-ung arrives at the station around this time, having recently discovered that Mi-jin’s missing aunt was also named Lim Sun. Confronting the fake Lim Sun, Ji-ung demands to know why she has been pretending. Mi-jin, overwhelmed with emotion, can only cry, leaving Ji-ung with no answers.

Miss-Night-and-Day-Episode-14-Recap-2-15

Mi-jin’s mother, meanwhile, begins to question whether she has failed to recognize her own younger sister, reflecting on how Lim Sun might have appeared had she lived for another 20 years. Realizing the extent of the hurt she has caused, Mi-jin decides to quit her job to prevent further harm. Before submitting her resignation, she encounters a private investigator (PI) hired by Mr. Baek. The PI presents her with a bag of poppy flowers to identify the scent, which Mi-jin immediately recognizes as the same smell from the killer’s car, hinting that Baek might be closing in on crucial information.

Simultaneously, Ji-ung uncovers that one of the other interns was a police officer involved in his mother’s disappearance case, even taking care of a young Ji-ung during that tumultuous period. This discovery links multiple threads of the story together. In a dramatic turn of events, Mi-jin’s father realizes the true identity of Na Ok-hui almost simultaneously with Ji-ung and Mi-jin. He recalls enlisting the help of a woman named Kwak Geum-hwa to find his sister-in-law 20 years ago.

It becomes apparent that Kwak Geum-hwa has been impersonating various women, murdering them, and stealing their belongings. Among her victims was the real Na Ok-hui and Baek’s wife. However, the fate of Lim Sun remains ambiguous, shrouded in mystery with hints of a fantastical element aging Mi-jin. Realizing her cover is blown, Geum-Hwa captures Mi-jin’s father in her tea shop, drugging him with fentanyl. She then calls Mi-jin, demanding she come to the reservoir alone if she wants to save her father. Mi-jin rushes to the location, but Geum-hwa changes the rendezvous point.

'Day and Night Woman' Lee Jung-eun, Another Lifetime Work, "Every Moment Intersected with Jung Eun-ji is Interesting"

JWPK3IRK53X45D2IUSBHH4RGBQ.jpg?auth=ab5a

'Day and Night' is providing extreme immersion until the last episode.

With only two episodes left until the end, JTBC's Saturday-Sunday drama 'Day and Night' (written by Park Ji-ha, directed by Lee Hyung-min and Choi Sun-min) is raising expectations for the ending by revealing the best scenes and lines chosen by the director, writer, and actors.

First, Lee Jung-eun, who proved her unrivaled value with her unrivaled acting skills that transcend generations from her 20s to her 50s through the role of Im Soon, said, "All the moments where Im Jin and Im Soon intersect in the drama were interesting." This is because the character's characteristics of changing into 50-year-old Im Soon during the day and returning to 20-year-old Im Jin at night made the moments where the two people intertwined thrillingly fun. In particular, the chemistry between Lee Jung-eun and Jung Eun-ji (as Lee Mi-jin), who acted as one person with a sense of unity in their speech and actions, gave viewers an unparalleled catharsis.

Jung Eun-ji, who is excellently portraying the role of Lee Mi-jin, who hides the secret of her innocent love, a brutal murder case, and a double life, said, "There are so many scenes that I like, so it would be hard to pick just one. Since the character of Mi-jin is characterized by 'over-enthusiasm' and 'effort', I liked all the scenes where she takes life seriously without any sloppiness, and on the other hand, her passion, sincerity, and earnestness were felt with her whole body as she acted, which made me feel sad and touched." She expressed deep empathy for the character.

Choi Jin-hyuk, who played the role of Gye Ji-woong, who was busy trying to protect the woman he loved from a serial killer, made hearts race, saying, "The most memorable scene was when Im-soon told Go Won (Baek Seo-hoo) that the malicious commenter was dead and when Ji-woong found out about it again," and "Ji-woong unknowingly got angry at Im-soon and Lee Jung-eun got so absorbed in the emotion of the moment that she cried. At that time, my feelings for Im-soon and Mi-jin grew even more, and I was so absorbed that I felt sorry for Lee Jung-eun," leaving a deep impression.

I'm still finding MIss NIght pretty blah and helpless.  I saw that actress in another drama and liked her, but this one not so much.

*****

CJH looks like a little boy when he smiles; his eyes crinkle   I imagine will see him smiling more in the final episode.

*******

I recommended this drama to my cousin and coworker.
