‘W’ Korean Drama Star Han Hyo Joo Speaks Up About Competing With ‘Uncontrollably Fond’s’ Suzy Bae

“W” Korean drama lead star Han Hyo Joo has spoken up about competing with Suzy Bae of “Uncontrollably Fond.”

The two Korean actresses have been pitted against each other since their shows air on the same time slot. MBC’s “W” is a fantasy love story between two lovers in different dimensions, while KBS’ “Uncontrollably Fond” is a romantic drama between an independent documentary producer and an arrogant celebrity.

Han Hyo Joo plays Oh Yeon-Joo, a problematic female doctor in her 30s who teleports between reality and an alternate dimension created by her cartoonist father. The fantasy realm is called “W,” where she meets and falls in love with an Olympic gold medalist and media mogul Kang Chul, played by Lee Jong-Suk. The show’s unique plot revolves around the two’s unlikely romance and how they help each other discover their life’s purpose.

Even though the story of “W” Korean drama and “Uncontrollably Fond” are very different, some can’t help but compare the acting capabilities of Han Hyo Joo and Suzy Bae. The KBS drama has received mixed reviews specifically because of the alleged poor acting of Suzy Bae.

In an event interview that was shared by International Business Times, Han Hyo Joo was asked to comment about the 21-year-old k-drama sweetheart from their rival show. However, the 29-year-old actress opted to avoid replying anything negative.

“I never thought about it,” the Dong Yi star said when asked about Suzy Bae’s acting skills. “I think society encourages competition, but I think making a good drama matters more than competing.”

“I think it’s best to judge myself than to be judging others,” Han Hyo Joo added.

The Cheongju native then tried to divert the topic by talking about her leading man in “W,” Lee Jong Suk. She said that the 26-year-old’s handsome, sexy, and well-mannered persona in the series is the same as how he is in real life.

As for Suzy Bae, her leading man in “Uncontrollably Fond” is Korean heartthrob Kim Woo Bin. He plays an arrogant celebrity named Shin Joon Young who falls in love with No Eul (Suzy), but their love story changes after a vehicular accident.

While “W” Korean drama’s unique story is likely to get k-drama fans curious, it is uncertain if the show could measure up to the early success of “Uncontrollably Fond.” Even with negative reviews on Suzy Bae’s acting, the show has beenleading in ratings since KBS premiered it this July.

Actor Lee Jong Suk compliments his co-star Han Hyo Joo when they appear on MBC’s “Section TV” together.

During the July 24 episode of the show, the two appear with other cast members of their romantic suspense drama “W.”

Lee Jong Suk says that Han Hyo Joo is in reality very different than his first impression of her. He comments, “She’s cuter and her energy is brighter than I thought.”

Hearing this, Han Hyo Joo shyly responds, “I don’t know why I’m excited about being called cute.”

Lee Jong Suk reveals, “Whenever she is having a hard time, she even dances.” The show then shares a cute clip her doing just that.

When asked what part of Han Hyo Joo is the prettiest, Lee Jong Suk replies, “Her veins. Yesterday when we were filming, I noticed that her skin is very pale and translucent, so her veins shine through. It was very pretty.” Han Hyo Joo first hits him jokingly at this answer, but after his explanation, she just hilariously stares at him incredulously.

It's so unusual to find Veins the prettiest thing about a person but knowing it is Han Hyo Joo, everything about Her is pretty! It seems that LJS is really paying attention (literally/physically) to our lovely Hyojoo.... They are so lovely together! :blush:
