China may be progressing forward in a warped speed, but the people's mentality like Japan or any other Asian countries are still prejudice against LGBTQ. But yes the more younger generation there is the more the society changes because once the old is gone it will be replaced by the new generations. 

Mill start with Japan first since I know this topic more than China. Really long read in both spoilers and videos too.

Japan as a society blends the modern and the past. Theyre a closed off country but now a days they're trying to expand more outside. Although only a few companies does this. 

Another thing Japan are fine with Homosexuality and you're right tho there's still discrimination happening but this all goes with most Asian countries. The most accepted countries are Israel and Taiwan seeing as their laws are much better than combined all Other Asian countries. 

Now about the suicide rate in Japan. That's wrong saying Gays have the highest suicide. It's not really, the highest are the salary men because of the pressure with the work, family and society. Second would be students and that would be where the LGBTQ comes in because kids in Japan are sometimes misinformed by the closed off teachers. And kids/students are the easiest to get bullied. Not saying that young adults and adults a like aren't being bullied but the easiest targets are as I mentioned. 

But before Japan started importing Western ideas, Japan dealt with homosexual and other forays of sexual identity much tolerable than when they started accepting Western views. I mean Japanese people have done cross dressing, and even some of their famous generals like Tokugawa Ieyasu was bi. 

(I think the same can be said with China, Thailand, and Philippines. And I only say these countries since I do some readings about them. Although I might be incorrect.) 

Even now in the modern days, they're much more acceptable than some other Asian countries. You can find all kinds of people there. Even a Serial killer cannibal lives there, and yes he got scot free from his killing. 

Modern Japan, their views have slightly changed since accepting US and western views. Christianity, Id say (sorry to say this) are mostly the culprit. Their religion at that time was shinto and Buddhism. Shinto religion is still prominent in Japan till this day. They follow more on those than say Buddhism or Christianity. Japan has this mentality that they accept Homosexuality and other sexual identities, but then as a thing they do is they basically ignore them and act like they don't exist. Which is still bad and effed up.  

Japan in general is like "Shut up and don't say richard simmons, because if you do people are just going to ignore you and act like you're a nuisance" in a way. And they deal it like this too much like suicide. So basically ignore all the problems and continue on. Which is bad and shouldn't be approached like that. Good thing is it's slowly changing.

not to blame Christianity but countries like Greece and Old Rome (before Christianity came into their world) they were also accepting Gay and other homosexuality. 

Around 70s and 80s, change in views have started again. Influence from US with their counter-culture against the Homosexuality views andsince now there are more awareness and popular Acts like Ayumi Hamasaki (famous supporter of LGBTQ in Japan much like A-mei is in China/Taiwan), Utada Hikaru (famous for the Kingdom Hearts OST singer), Koda Kumi(really big on Lesbian themes back in her hay day,) and Namie Amuro (she did OST for Inuyasha anime). These people especially Ayumi and Utada Hikaru supports the LGBTQ community. There's also famous talents or comedians like Matsuko deluxe (he's gay and cross dresser, although one YouTuber met him and said he was a bit creepy and deeply touchy,) and Hard Gay. A 

There are more people coming out now, and are acceptable with it. I mean we have things like Yaoi/ShounenAi (gay/Boys Love), Yuri/ShoujoAi (lesbian/girls love) and cross dressing transgender manga and anime. Even dramas like Hana Kimi or To the beautiful you (Korean version) which is about a woman cross dressing as a guy. That says something. I mean the word Fujoshis/Fudanshi, which is a term that people who is a fan of MxM or gay stories, comes from Japan. 

yes Japan don't recognize Same sex marriage but some places in Tokyo gives out certificates. Even tho it's not recognize people can still perform Wedding Ceremonies.

Japan even has a festival for the male genitalia. That tells something about their country.

And like many other countries LGBQT students suffers the most because they're seen as not normal and weird and different, etc. it just depends on how you're outlook on things. Japan only cares about if you are being respectful of their cultures, values, and customs rather than

China

I'm less knowledgeable about China than Japan as you can see above. But much like Japan, China's homosexuals in the past were more open before Christianity hit them. When the missionaries came into China homosexuals was banned and even became a "mental illness." 

China was more open like Fuedal Japan, Greece, and Rome in the past but because Christianity got swept into the Eastern, their views change much like any other Asian countries.

modern China, I'd say the only famous I know who came out (due to paparazzi) was Leslie Cheung. (Bless him and RIP) There's A-mei and Jolin Tsai, but they're both Taiwanese. And Taiwan and China seems to be dealing disputes against land. (So, China owns Taiwan but Taiwan doesn't think so.) 

Joling Tsai's song We Are All Different, Yet the same was banned in Singapore by the government because of its Lesbian themed. Honestly it's not that the people aren't accepting it, I'm sure there are people who are as accepting and loving as others who are despicable and vile and discriminate LGBTQ people and it's community. I blame the government tbh. It seems like all government from all different countries are mostly against it, or just afraid of changed. Take POTUS Trump. He wants to repeal the same sex marriage and the anti discriminatory laws that protects LGBTQs. Which is just leaves bad taste in my mouth.

I say all the actors who have acted in gay or BL dramas are most of them supportive. Their is always exception as to some this is just work for them. I think a lot of Chinese celebs are gay, but have to hide it. 

Chinese government, as some of the people have said here are mostly governed by Christian people. And there's also the communism part of China, despite name themselves People's Republic of China, they are still govern by communism. I think communism isn't a bad thing, but it's only bad when one can't even express themselves without fear of going to jail, getting killed by someone, or being shunned by society. The fact that China has Censorships says a lot about their government, and not the people. 

 

 

@bearology the woman is Jane Zhang. Famous and recognized singer in China and outside. She met Oprah and was in Voice of China. She got into Billboard because of her song got ranked high in iTunes and billboard. Let's hope ZZ gets to do his networking and do some collaborations with her in the near future. Jane Zhang has a large fan base.

@1blankstare Aiya........... This got heavy really fast, i guess that's my fault lol.... But maybe since so many ppl come to the forum asking about this kind of stuff at least it's useful. 

I never actually said that gay ppl have the highest suicide rate in japan, i just said that there are many gay ppl who do commit suicide in japan for being gay. Although yes, japan probably has a pretty high suicide rate over all not just for gay ppl. 

Also, i never implied that china is better than other asian countries in regards to acceptance for LGBTQ lol. For china I only talked about how homosexuality and LGBTQ issues might be seen. We all know there is a long way to go. I just want to let ppl have a sense of things in asia overall, basically that issues exist all across asia including japan.  I disagree with how ppl seem to think that japan might be oasis for LGBTQ in asia and you seem to agree with me on this point considering the videos and the content you posted. So maybe it brings a greater appreciation of how things might be difficult for ZZ and JY (and candies).

I don't want to get into Christianity lol.. Yeah there were influences, but I don't really want to go there. Ppl from all over the world visit this forum and are fans whatever their beliefs.

Thank you for posting the videos on japan, i've watched some of them already. It seems like things in japan may be turning out better for LGBTQ ppl recently, but over all i do feel like what i am seeing in the videos is basically supporting what i am talking about.. Since nobody seems to know or talk about LGBTQ issues.. It's interesting that ppl don't know the difference between homosexual and transgender ppl.. That kind of tells me that there is no discussion about it. Maybe that is working out better for them in a sense, but seems kind of hard for LGBTQ ppl there because it is similar to being invisible. Either choose to be invisible or choose to be possibly ostracised. They mentioned that it might be bad for LGBTQ ppl in companies, that's unfortunate cause the big companies are basically where everyone gets hired after graduating.

It's great that they do have the same sex partner certificate in a district in tokyo (?), but yeah if LGBTQ ppl are saying it seems premature it most likely is. Since the general population seems to know barely anything about LGBTQ ppl apart from extremely campy acting on tv. Doesn't seem like there are many legal rights worked out for it yet. I kind of agree with the ppl interviewed that maybe it is politically motivated, since it's kind of like sweeping all the problems under a rug by passing out the certificates when the general population don't know enough about LGBTQ ppl to even have opinions on them. 

I'm glad that yaoi/yuri is having a positive impact LOL. I've been a fujoshi for how many years now? I've even gone to japan to buy yaoi mangas and it felt pretty awkward i have to say. But at the same time, yaoi and yuri cater to specific audiences and is often so fetishized to the point that it's might not be that great of an influence. Yaoi is popular but it's kind of isolated from real life homosexuality, some ppl who like yaoi say they can't accept real life gay ppl. And there's probably more yuri in hentai/ecchi mangas (ie porn) that guys read than full on yuri mangas. Not a lot of that stuff is realistic or very healthy LOL. There's enough issues surrounding sex for heterosexual japanese ppl, without bringing in homosexual issues into the mix.

I was talking to someone who recently lived in japan for a number of years and i think we were on the topic of either disabled ppl or mentally ill ppl. She said that when she was in japan she asked about where the mentally ill/disabled ppl were and the person she was talking to said that mentally ill/disabled ppl don't exist in japan. I think this basically sums up why i don't think japan is as friendly to LGBTQ as it seems. 

Granted i do believe that they don't care about non japanese LGBTQ ppl, that's why i said if you are gay and japanese you'd be in big trouble.

Thank you for proving this. For once, ZZ answers things properly. Not making me what ehh WTH ZZ after reading his answers  

The ban, although we all hate it but it did some good things to the boys. For example when other BL actors are still trying to break through their title as just BL actors, because of the bans, our boys have never been mentioned as a BL actors. Or because of the limitation to appear on TV, they had to find other solutions -> JY with movie and ZZ with his music. JY is now filming his second movie as lead characters (high-end movie too) and ZZ did an incredible job with his previous Light Tour. I can see once JY movies are out and ZZ 2nd album + a role in drama/movie, nothing can stop them!

Who wouldn't feel nervous attending their first Billboard Music Award, ZZ might have never dreamt that he could. I still feel so proud of him. Unfortunately, 8am Monday morning....I won't be able to livestream it T.T If anyone can, please keep us updated.

I'm really looking forward to his second album, wondering if there will be English songs? I do really miss his concerts. It makes me feel happy when I see him enjoy himself performing on stage.

This is a very valid question because it took me days to get out of this confusion when I faced it. The thing is, Soompi has an automated profanity filter, meaning whenever we use any 'f-word' or anything that can be considered as vulger or even the slang for intercourse, it changes them into 'richard simmons'. 

So, Richard Simmons is the dude that butts in whevever we get a bit carried away with our passion.
