Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2013 - June Week 4

Recommended Posts

Despite very strong competition and no more promotions, Lee Hyori’s “Bad Girls” managed to hold on to the top spot for the third straight week. “Bad Girls” narrowly edged out Huh Gak and Jung Eun Ji’s duet “Short Hair” by six points. “Short Hair” almost became only the third digital single (and first by artists outside of YG Entertainment) to ever hit No. 1 on our chart.

We have four new songs in the top 10 this week. Right below “Bad Girls” and “Short Hair” at No. 3 is Rainbow’s latest hit “Sunshine,” up from No. 25 last week. This song is coming from the second part of Rainbow’s first full album “Rainbow Syndrome.”  Sunshine” is a summer dance song with an addictive melody. Fans will be able to see the girls’ hidden charms through this song. Rainbow also hit No. 3 earlier this year with “Tell Me Tell Me.” Let see if “Sunshine” can do better.

Just below “Sunshine” at No. 4 is another new song. MBLAQ is back for the first time in 2013 with “Smoky Girl,” the title song from their fifth mini-album “Sexy Beat.” It is MBLAQ’s first release in more than a year. Smoky Girl” is an upbeat number with electronic sounds. Top musicians from the Korean hip-hop scene, Primary and Zion.T are responsible for producing this track. This week it moves up 14 spots to No. 4.

A second new song written by Primary is at No. 7, which belongs to Bumkey’sBad Girl,” not to be confused with Lee Hyori’s “Bad Girls.” Bumkey may not be a household name to many K-Pop fans, but he performed background vocals and also featured in many hip-hop artists’ songs. This time he finally released his first solo hit song “Bad Girl,” featuring Supreme Team’s E-Sens.  This pure R&B song is about a man’s sad love story with a bad girl. This week it moves up seven spots to No. 7.

Another relatively unknown R&B act also makes their first appearance in the top 10. Male duo 2BiC moves up 11 spots to No. 10 with “Return.”  This is the title song from their album of the same name. Written by veteran songwriters Cho Young Soo and penned by Ahn Young Min, “Return” has a simple melody and is about a couple growing old of each other and attracting people’s interest.

A song not yet in the top 10 but definitely worth mentioning is SISTAR’s “Give It To Me.” It debuts at No. 13 this week but has a very high chance to move up all the way to No. 1 next week. We’ll see if they are able to leapfrog a lot of strong challengers.
