On the December 14 broadcast of MBC’s “Section TV,” the lead cast of upcoming movie “The Technicians,” including actors Kim Woo Bin, Lee Hyun Woo, and Go Chang Suk took part in an interview with the entertainment news program.
During the interview, the reporter asked Kim Woo Bin, “I heard that you write well. Isn’t it difficult to always follow spelling rules?”
In response, the actor shared, “My mother managed a writing academy for a very long time, so I would get in trouble [if I don’t spell correctly].”
However, Kim Woo Bin continued to explain, “I was watching ‘Infinity Challenge’ and they were doing a spelling game. I also tried it and I got almost everything wrong,” causing laughter.
When the reporter asked if a lot of his friends use Internet slang and neologisms, the actor displayed his love for Korean language by replying, “There may be advantages, but I hope we can love our language a bit more. I will be the first to start trying,” with a laugh.

Woobin Cine21 Interview

credit 07160914 Tumblr.com

T/N: I haven’t seen the original article and all of these translations are via J亲故乖巧又聪明o_O so I’m not sure about completeness and accuracy. It isn’t structured properly either because yeah, they are just translations of weibo posts, so hopefully it isn’t too messy.

Woobin: Now I feel ambitious and have a lot of different kinds of responsibilities. At the start, I actually didn’t feel like this, but now I keep wanting to do a little more. Only when I minimize the regrets will there be works which people like. I also started to proactively give my suggestions. The staff on set would of course feel tired, so it is difficult to request to do it again sometimes. Or the director might think it is ok after considering various things, but when I look at it, there will be moments of regret. So even if it is going to be edited out later, I would still voice out my thoughts.

Woobin: On the surface it may look like I’m now having time to rest, but in actual fact I’m not resting. When people don’t see my new work, they would think that I am resting, but I actually practically have no time to rest. (After Twenty ended) I rested for a week, and started the promotions for The Technicians (Criminal Designer) which is scheduled for Christmas Eve. It has been really long since I had an interview that was related to my works, it feels especially difficult to express my thoughts today.

Director: If Woobin was the one accommodating his previous characters, then I would like to reverse it this time. I want to create a character which can completely bring out the most original Kim Woobin.

Woobin: Before this movie, I have never thought how to make myself look handsome/cool in front of the camera. When I am shooting for CFs,  I would think about what kind of expression and what kind of image to show. I think this isn’t needed when acting. But The Technicians is different. During the filming, the director would emphasize that the movie is a stylish movie. The director would also become one of the stylists. I thought a lot about what kind of image I would need to portray in a stylish movie. During the filming, even if one strand of hair falls, the director will ask to retake the scene, so this is a movie which makes me take note of the angle of my face and where my eyes should look so that I would look more handsome.

The director said that Woobin would make a lot of preparations before going to the set.Woobin: No matter how I analyze the character at home, when I arrive at the set, there would still be difference and changes, so I must be prepared for that. If I prepare in such a way that it is too rigid, I might not be able to shoot on set.

This time, he also wrote the diary of the character Jihyuk and the character questions.Woobin: every time I start a new project, this is a promise to myself.

He will imagine Jihyuk’s daily life. Woobin: What time was it when Jihyuk first met hyung, where was it, what could hyung have said, what I could have said that made hyung look at me and smile. I spent a lot of time imagining Jihyuk’s daily life. Regardless of whether the audience will be able to see this, but this would help me get an angle which is more real. The more I imagine, the closer I get to this character.

Switching off the lights and keeping the camera, Woobin’s face looks surprisingly gentle and his hands are really small. Woobin discreetly put his hands behind his back, saying,”because my hands are small so I feel very embarrassed, so I just hid it so people don’t see it.”

Regarding the exposure scene that he reveals his upper body, he said, “I still don’t understand why the scene was necessary. Director said it was commercial scene. (All laughed) I worked out hard for the scene because he said the scene was for my fans. I also did push-up even right before shooting the scene.”

Film <The Technicians> faces off against upcoming film <The Royal Tailor> and <Ode to My Father>. He said, “I feel so honored. I also heard that there are more more people going to the movie in December. I also think I am so lucky to release this film with those great senior actors of those two movies at the same period. I think box-office is up to God.”

Lastly, Kim Woo-bin stated, “I worked with really good actors in this film. I was so happy just with that. It was really valuable experience. I really felt grateful for him, too.”

Im Joo Hwan said, “The best scene in ‘The Technicians’ is Jo Yoon Hee’s bath scene,” making everyone in the crowd laugh.

Kim Woo-bin discusses future as actor

image
Kim Woo-bin (Sidus HQ)
Rising hallyu star Kim Woo-bin talked about his future plans in an interview with a local news outlet Thursday.

“I am fully aware that I don’t have a ‘pretty boy’ face like other popular male actors. But I have thought that I should pursue my acting career differently. I became an actor because I enjoy ‘acting’ itself and I’m planning to continue with what I have,” the actor was quoted as saying.

Kim also shared his hopes for playing the lead role in melodramas. So far, the actor’s past major works including the KBS2 drama “Friends 2013” and the film “Friend-The Great Legacy” involved “bromance” -- friendship between two male leads -- rather than romance.

image
(Sidus HQ)
“It’s not like I fancy costarring with men over women. I just have not had the opportunity to participate as a male lead in melodramas. I would like to take part in a passionate romance drama one day,” he said.

The 25-year-old also revealed that actor Cha Seung-won is his role model.

“I first met Cha three years ago at fashion week. At that time, I was only a rookie actor, so it wasn’t easy for me to approach him. But, at one point, he recognized me when I said hello. Since then, we have become closer. I sometimes share my concerns or problems with him,” he said.

image
(Sidus HQ)
“I believe that Cha is someone who succeeded in both his modeling and acting careers. When I talk to him, I think that I want to be like him. I also hope my career path can guide younger generations who want to become model-actors,” he added.

The actor recently finished filming tech-based action film “Criminal Designer.” In the movie, he played a role of gifted safecracker and leader of the tech-savvy criminal gang.
