Summary
The series, set in Saitama, follows the story of Ren Mihashi. Mihashi was the previous ace pitcher in his middle school's baseball team, but it seems that he only got the position because his grandfather was the owner of the school. His teammates (especially the team's catcher) hated him, and they always lost their games. Mihashi is thoroughly convinced that he is a lousy baseball pitcher and he graduates to high school with extremely low self-esteem. He then transfers to Nishiura high school with plans of quitting baseball, because he does not believe he is good enough to succeed at baseball. However, he is dragged into Nishiura's baseball team by their coach. Assisted by his new teammates (and especially the catcher, Takaya Abe, he grows in stature, confidence and skill, helping his team excel with his own abilities.

Ookiku Furikabutte, nicknamed Oofuri by fans, is an anime and manga about Mihashi Ren, the pitcher of Nishuira High. Mihashi has no self esteem what so ever and is not confident in his abilities although he has amazing control of his pitches and has an irrevocable love for baseball. His catcher, Takaya Abe, sometimes has no patience for Mihashi's wimpy-ness, but he sees the potential in Mihashi and helps him get the confidence he needs. It's a story about trust and friendship. The development of all the characters is really well done and by the end you'll love all their quirks. This is the first year Nishuira has a baseball team so all the team members are freshman! It's a really touching and hilarious series. Check it out! You won't be disappointed. =)

Note, this series is also a favorite of yaoi fangirls due to the questionable actions of some of the team members although the series is officially not yaoi in any way!

OH MY GOD

This is one of my most favorite series ever. I stopped reading it awhile back because the chapters were being released to slow, though (but I'm happy that they were translated and released XD). This thread has tempted me to re-read all the chapters~

Mihashi's attitude kind of annoyed me after awhile, but I still like how his character develops, no matter how slow it is.

Lmao~ yes! Mihashi can get a little impossible sometimes, in a good way, lol. He makes me laugh a lot.

I was really frustrated when they wouldn't come out with any scanlations too! Then I found out that raep_time was dropping Ookiku and I was like, that's it, I'm reading all the spoilers I can find. And I found them. =) Well, not all of them, but some major stuff.

Anyways, now nice_pitching picked up Oofuri and they have released a chapter already and are halfway through chapter 21.

However, there is a super nice girl on livejournal who is making actual detailed scripts of the manga! Word for word. Panel by panel. (http://community.livejournal.com/oofuri) She's already by Chapter 27. (It's labeled Chapter 47 because she's using the magazine release numeration which is different from the manga volume ones. But just add 20 and your good)

Later in the series, we see whole different sides of everyone's characters. Esp. Abe and Mihashi. As far as character development goes, Ookiku Furikabutte is the best manga I've ever read. Period. I've watched the whole anime twice and several favorite episodes a bunch of times. And I reread the manga when I was getting scanlation withdrawals. ^^

Anyways, glad to hear you like it!! Do you have any favorites? I loove Mihashi, Abe, and Tajima. (How can you not?) But my personal fave is Izumi. ^^

Thank you for alerting me about this. I thought it was going to be 25 like the last season but I guess it really is only 13 episodes. It's going to end with the game against Bijou since this is technically 'the summer tournament' season. But they will probably come out with more seasons at this rate. Oofuri is pretty popular in Japan.

I also love the battery duo and Tajima. <3 My other favorite is the semi cynical Izumi. X) But I really love them all.
