Rain To Travel To Taiwan For JTBC Variety Show

 

 

Rain will be embarking on a special trip!

 

On October 29, it was confirmed that he will be starring as a guest on JTBC’s “Carefree Travelers.”

 

“Carefree Travelers” is a program where the guests and fixed cast members Kim Yong Man, Kim Sung Joo, Ahn Jung Hwan, and Jung Hyung Don experience a package tour. For Rain’s episodes, they will be traveling to Taiwan on November 6. They will be visiting a variety of places in Taiwan for three days.

Rain Talks About How “The Unit” Mentors Prioritize Potential Over Skill

 

 

On the October 27 broadcast of KBS2’s “Entertainment Weekly,” Rain appeared to answer questions about the idol rebooting program “The Unit.”

 

Rain, as the MC and one of the mentors on “The Unit,” revealed the judging standards of the mentors on the show. He said, “The six of us promised to not prioritize existing skills of the contestants, but rather their potential.”

 

 

Rain continued, “We decided to look at the participants’ potential. If they have the guts, perseverance, and determination, then let’s look at that first. Skills come second. If there’s potential, then we have experts here to teach them.”

 

“The Unit” is an idol rebooting program that hopes to give lesser-known idol members a second chance at the spotlight. It will premiere on Saturday, October 28 at 9:15 p.m. KST.

Rain posted on his SNS, "Thank you for your blessings. It's a girl. We want to raise her to be a special part of this world".

 

Fans are just as excited for the couple. They expect the child to be as beautiful as her mother and father.

 

Meanwhile, Rain and Kim Tae-hee were together for five long years until they got married in January this year. Kim Tae-hee said that she was fifteen weeks pregnant in May.

On October 27, the mentors of “The Unit” sat down for an interview with KBS2’s “Entertainment Weekly” to discuss the program ahead of its first episode. Mentors San E, HyunA, SHINee’s Taemin, Urban Zakapa’s Jo Hyun Ah, and Hwang Chi Yeol featured as guests.

 

Hwang Chi Yeol first discussed the difference of “The Unit” from other audition programs, pointing out it “features individuals who have already debuted. As they have already experienced the harsh realities of trainee life, these friends are even more desperate [to debut].” He addressed the rebooting aspect of “The Unit,” adding, “the show offers [the contestants] another chance. It is a program of hope.”

 

In regards to rebooting in his own life, San E remarked during the interview that he wants to be reborn as fellow mentor Rain because “he is a cool entertainer with a beautiful wife and a daughter.” San E also gave a sneak peek of the show, as he revealed mentors Rain and Hwang Chi Yeol performed directly on stage, to which Hwang Chi Yeol chimed in that the audience must watch “The Unit” to see for themselves.

Viewers were not impressed with 'The Unit'.

 

KBS' show was advertised and tagged as the 'idol-rebooting show' by themselves. Viewers watched the first episode expecting idols who had some debuting experience and just had not managed to make it (much like NU'EST).

 

However, many of the idols that had been accepted by the show are being criticized as many are just rookies.

 

Some just-debuted idol groups (such as C9 Entertainment's Good Day) had come out onto 'The Unit', along with a 13-year-old trainee, an actor-in-training, and more. Viewers thought the show had already lost its goal of giving idols a second chance.

 

Comments such as "They call this an idol-rebooting project, but what's with the 13-year-old trainee and an actor who's been on 'Golden Bell'?", "I watched this show because it was a rebooting program and they were going to look at desperation and potential and then look at talent... But actor Lee Jung Ha was chosen just because he was cute... There's a group that just debuted.. And a 13-year-old who probably hasn't really suffered.. Doesn't it make more sense for people like Dal Shabet, SPICA, Ahreum, Big Star, Boyfriend, who have debuted but haven't really made it? There are a lot of people who have debuted a long time ago who haven't been able to reach their potential... They shouldn't have let people who are in their first year of debuting, or those without any singing experience to have applied..", "The goal of giving a chance to idols who have already debuted but didn't make it is already gone. Groups that failed or members that left current groups should have come out for a second chance.. But rookies who have been out for a few months have come out... An actor-in-training has come out with a Kim So Hye concept... He has no charm but he has so much screen time and even has Rain supporting him.. Just blatantly pushing him forward... *** Fanclub was a 6-member K-pop boy band during the late 90′s. - The group was short lived. Fanclub released only two CDs. At 16, RAIN debuted in 1998 as a member of Fan Club. Rain described the Fanclub members as "caged animals" since they were locked in the rehearsal room for up to ten hours without food. The group was dismissed at 1999.

I love how he has emphasized that he won't "judge" the idols. Nice man. I think Rain's input would be very valuable for such a show like this since he knows what is necessary to create a well rounded talent or group.

Rain concluded, "'The Unit' isn't a place to judge artists, but it's a stage for people who've experienced failure to show their potential."

Why did Rain decide to appear on audition show?

 

 

Singer Rain revealed the reason why he chose to star on an audition show in the latest episode of KBS’ “The Unit” aired on Saturday.

The K-pop superstar pointed out that he was also once a nobody.

“I debuted in 1998 -- about 20 years ago. The name of (my) group was ‘Fanclub.’ The group was not successful and I spent difficult times as that group was disbanded,” he said.

He, however, did not give up and finally shot to stardom after releasing his debut album, “Bad Guy,” under his current stage name in 2002. He has since become a household name.

“Since about three, four years ago, I’ve been offered so many jury positions on audition programs. But I declined them all because I really hated to evaluate someone,” the singer said.

“But when I heard the purpose of ‘The Unit’ I thought (if I join the show) I can help these people,” he said. “‘The Unit’ is not a show to evaluate people but to give people who have already experienced failure an opportunity to show their capability.”

Alternatively dubbed the “Idol Rebooting Project,” the idol show aims to shed light on singers who have already debuted professionally but failed to gain public recognition.

The show airs Saturdays at 9:15 p.m. It is set to run for 14 weeks.

On October 29, singer-actor Rain is confirmed to make his guest appearance on the JTBC’s Carefree Travelers.

 

Carefree Travelers is a travel reality show where the cast Kim Yong Man, Kim Sung Joo, Ahn Jung Hwan, and Jung Hyung Don journey various countries in the form of package tours, alongside participating travelers and invited guests.

 

Despite his hectic schedule as the MC and mentor for the KBS 2TV’s idol rebooting project The Unit, Rain is still willing to participate in the JTBC show.

Soompi reports that Rain's Instagram post reads, "Thank you... She is a beautiful princess ~ We will raise her well to be a child that helps the world. #축복"The closing hashtag is the Korean term for "blessing."

 

 

As GMA News notes, Rain got married to actress Kim Tae Hee ("IRIS," "Yongpal") on January 19, 2017. The celebrity couple tied the knot at a small, private ceremony in the Gahoe-dong Cathedral of Seoul. They had been dating for five years before getting married.

 

In May, Kim Tae Hee's agency Ruach Entertainment announced that the actress was 15 weeks pregnant. Ruach said that she would be focusing on the baby's prenatal care and her own preparations for being a mother. At the time, Rain was celebrating the 15th anniversary of his debut with a Japan fanmeeting tour.

 

On September 4, a report surfaced online saying that Rain and Kim Tae Hee were expecting a baby girl, who would be born in late October or early November. Rain's agency posted a response on Naver saying that the expected due date was correct, but the couple was not disclosing the baby's gender and the agency did not know the child's gender.

 

Later in September, Rain's agency announced that the singer was working on his comeback album, which he planned to release in early December. The upcoming release would be his first album in three years since "Rain Effect" came out in June 2014.

 

The agency also confirmed that Rain would be joining KBS2's "The Unit" survival show as an MC and mentor to idol trainees. On an interview with Naver, Rain said that he turned down the show's offers a few times because he did not want to judge others. But he loved its concept of "idol rebooting," which got him to change his mind. Recently, Rain has received praise from "The Unit" staff members saying that he has been an encouraging and comforting presence on the show.

After the announcement of the said concert being rescheduled, Rain's company has posted a message on their official website that the kpop star will not be participating on the event because of the organizer's "dishonest" about the performance contract.

 

The organizers, KO-PH, has yet to release a statement if the concert will proceed or will be cancelled at all. For refund and inquiries, fans are encouraged to contact them via email: rise2shine2017@gmail.com
