[Apr-22-2011] Rain becomes the first Asian to be twice picked as TIME's top 100 most influential entertainers in the world.

As world star Rain has become the first Asian to be twice selected as one of the World's Most Influential People by the Time magazine after ranking top in its 100 Poll this year, he is being congratulated from his fans all over the world.

Before this, in the 2011 Time 100 Poll that closed officially as of midnight on 14 April, Rain took first place, maintaining dominant position in the list of 203 candidates after beating out Jay Chou (second), Susan Boyle (third) and so on.

As a result, he is scheduled to leave the country at 19:30pm on 24 April at the invitation of an official party hosted by the Time 100 to be held on 26 April in New York.

The party will be attended by prominent figures from around the world included in the Time 100, including the American First Lady Michelle Obama and Rain. He is expected to return home at 17:35pm on 28 April in order to film movie 'Red Muffler' as scheduled.

Meanwhile, in 2006, Rain had proven it by being picked as TIME's top 100 most influential entertainers in the world.

Rain (Jeong Ji-hoon) was selected in the '2011's 100 most influential person' released by American business magazine TIME.

Rain's name was confidently listed in the 'TIME 100' released on the 21st. His name stood in line along with Canadian singer Justin Bieber, winner of Grammy pop vocal performance Bruno Mars, "Alice in Wonderland"'s Mia Wasikowska, movie star Mark Wahlberg and more. President of the United States Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Oprah Winfrey were also in the list.

This is not the first time Rain has been put in the top 100. He was up there once in 2006 for the first time in Korean celebrities. Therefore Korea and the whole of Asia were in the TIME 100 twice. The only American star that was chosen in the top 100 was Hollywood actor George Clooney.

Rain will be attending the official "TIME 100" party in New York on the 26th. He will be departing from Incheon airport on the 24th around 7.30PM and return on the 28th around 5.35PM

Rain was recently interviewed on the April 22nd broadcast of KBS 1TV’s “KBS Newsline” for being named “Top 100 world’s most influential people in 2011″ by Time Magazine.

During the interview, Rain stated, “It’s truly an honor to come in 1st place, and it came as a bit of a happy surprise. The online vote is a popularity vote and the selection for the Top 100 is chosen by select people all over the world from Time Magazine.”

When asked about recent controversial news about celebrities’ private lives, Rain replied, “Because I am also a celebrity, I believe that it’s important to have some privacy, but it is also important to show the public your honest self.”

Then, the news anchor suddenly asked if Rain is married (indirectly referring to the current Seo Taiji scandal). Surprised by the question, Rain answered, “I want to get married. (Although I haven’t entered the military yet) Truthfully, I want to get married now, but I’m not dating anyone at the moment.”

Singer Rain revealed, “I plan to enlist for active duty later this year. After I am discharged, I will participate in an American movie.”

On April 22nd, Rain guested on KBS 1TV’s “Newsline” and was interviewed about his appearance on the “TIME 100″ list for the second time – the first in Asian celebrity history.

According to “TIME”, Rain has “successfully transformed into a movie star.” To this comment, the anchor asked him, “Do you have any plans to flim a movie in the States?”

Rain answered, “I have received many great scripts. However, because I have to enlist into the army this year, I have temporarily pushed them back. Later, after I get discharged, I hope I can film in the States.”

Rain arrived New York safely.

I and other 2 NY Cloud arrived airport at 6:20pm. Rain’s flight was estimated at 7:51pm (40 minutes before scheduled time). We all prepared gifts for him, mainly food gifts…haha. I bought him some mandarin. Also, we planned to show him the Time 100 magazines and would like to have his autograph if timing was right. We kept chatting and guessed if more Cloud would be here waiting for Rain. (Later, we found out probably due to bad weather, heavy traffic in the highway). Time flied, his plane was landed…on the ground…arrived…finally…yeah!

I was so nervous because I haven’t seen him since Love Zepp Tour, almost one year. I have decided to stay more at front row and made sure to welcome at first. Suddenly, his camera man was shown. We knew Rain would be the next soon. OK…our prince was landed on the ground officially. He still wore sunglasses. He put on his black jacket, no head phones, he wore his MCM backpack. Luckily, I was on the first row, he walked towards my way, then I approached to him and said ‘Hello, welcome’ then gave him my gift bag. Rain took it and said “Hello, thank you”. He kept walking forward the exit (very very fast). His camera man didn’t tape anything probably because it’s crowded and not many fans.

We, 3 Cloud, followed Rain toward his car. We cross the road after him. It was raining heavily at that time. When Rain opened the door and jumped into the car. The other 2 Cloud said “gift…gift” His assistant took their gifts and passed to Rain. Then, door closed.

At that time, I spoke with his “English teacher” (haha…later, I found out that he’s not his English teacher…). I asked him how the flight was, then introduction…handshake…said this and that etc...”English teacher” (temporaily used this nickname). He is very friendly though. While I was talking to English teacher, suddenly, Rain rolled down the window all the way, then waved to 3 of us. He said “Thank you” with lovely smile. His eyes became one line because he smiled. I forgot what we said. But, we definitely waved him back with smiles (big smile though). Then, he rolled up the window again.

We continued our conversation with “English teacher”. Suddenly, Rain rolled half down the window (we didn’t see his eyes). He talked to “English teacher”. Then, rolled up the window again. When the car started the engine, ready to leave, Rain rolled down the window again, and said and waved to us “Goodbye”. We, all, waved him back and said “good bye, see you Tuesday”. He definitely had wonderful mood and we are good Cloud of course, we turned off the camera, and just kept chatting with “English teacher”. I guess Rain was curious why not talking to him instead…Thus, he rolled down the window twice…cute

Anyway, his car left and we went parking to pick up my car. It’s great welcome mission. Although there are only 3 Cloud, it is harmony, like friends… I feel so warm. Hope Ji Hoon feels the same.

Rain (Jeong Ji-hoon) was selected in the '2011's 100 most influential person' released by American business magazine TIME.

Rain's name was confidently listed in the 'TIME 100' released on the 21st. His name stood in line along with Canadian singer Justin Bieber, winner of Grammy pop vocal performance Bruno Mars, "Alice in Wonderland"'s Mia Wasikowska, movie star Mark Wahlberg and more. President of the United States Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Oprah Winfrey were also in the list.

This is not the first time Rain has been put in the top 100. He was up there once in 2006 for the first time in Korean celebrities. Therefore Korea and the whole of Asia were in the TIME 100 twice. The only American star that was chosen in the top 100 was Hollywood actor George Clooney.

Rain will be attending the official "TIME 100" party in New York on the 26th. He will be departing from Incheon airport on the 24th around 7.30PM and return on the 28th around 5.35PM

I’m writing this fan account on behalf of a Rain fan based on the details she told me. My own good friend and “625endlessrain” member Jeslyn216 was at JFK tonight to greet Rain!! Hardly any fans were there except her and 2 other friends. It was raining but just slightly. When Rain appeared from the terminal, it was quite a mad dash because he was walking very quickly. He had sunglasses on, the same MCM backpack, black pants and what seemed to be a black jacket that he wore over his shirt. Jeslyn and the other 2 girls walked quickly behind him trying to keep up with the pace and followed him to his awaiting car.

Someone was already there to open the door for him, so he went right in. Jeslyn went up to the guy at the car door and said, “Gift! Gift!”, indicating that she had a gift to hand over to Rain. So before the guy closed the door, he took Jeslyn’s gift as well as the other girl’s gift, and put them onto the seat beside Rain (Rain had gone all the way into the car to the other passenger side). They peaked in and could catch a dark glimpse of Rain. They waved at him, and in turn he bowed his head and said ‘thank you’. The girls said in unison “congratulations” to him and said that they’ll see him on Tuesday. He continued to bow and say ‘thank you’ and waved to them before the door was finally closed. However, the car didn’t leave right away. So as they stood there waiting, Jeslyn and the other girls chatted up a conversation with one of JYPE’s representative there. He’s the same guy that accompanied Rain throughout his time here in the US during his Ninja Assassin promotion, and speaks very good English. Jeslyn said they were all having such a good conversation with him, he even asked their names and he explained to them who all he was etc.

As they chatted away, Rain unexpected rolled down the window of the car, and said to the girls once again ‘thank you’, like as if he was trying to get their attention! ^ ^ Jeslyn thinks that perhaps he had gone through the gifts, or the fact that he was more comfortable or ‘secure’ when he saw that they were standing there with their cameras already tucked away. Anyway, this got the girls SO excited again. Needless to say, Jeslyn doesn’t remember much of what else they said or he said, but he thanked them and waved and smiled at them. She said that she could see Rain’s face and eyes very clearly as he had taken off his sunglasses at that point. His face looked refreshed and he seemed very happy. She said he looked so cute! As he partially rolled up the window, he spoke with his representative before rolling up the window completely. The girls sensed that he was about to leave, so they waved at his window (even though they couldn’t see him through the tinted glass). Then an unexpected thing happened, he rolled down his window AGAIN–FOR THE SECOND TIME!! He waved once more and said thank you, smiling at the girls, before the car finally drove away. The girls left shortly after; feeling totally happy an definitely in Cloud 9!!!

Rain chosen as influential person by TIME Magazine

Asian pop star Rain was named one of the 100 most influential people in 2011 by U.S. TIME magazine, making him the first Asian to make the list twice.

According to TIME's official webpage on Friday, the Korean singer was the online poll winner for the 2011 TIME 100 beating out United States President Barack Obama and international pop songstress Lady GaGa on the Internet-based survey.

His first recognition on the poll came in 2006 and has since topped TIME's online survey in 2007, 2008 and 2009 but failed to make it into the actual list.

Other notable mentions on this year's list include Hilary Clinton, Oprah Winfrey, Aung San Suu Kyi and entertainers Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, Sting, Mia Wasikowska and Mark Wahlberg.

Rain will visit New York on April 24 to attend the official party of the TIME 100 and return to Korea four days later to continue shooting his latest film "Red Muffler (tentative title)."

Rain, whose real name is Jung Ji-hoon, has been considered one of biggest stars in Korea and throughout Asia since the start to his solo singing career in 2002. He has also expanded his career into acting, playing several small screen roles such as "Sang Doo! Let's Go to School" and "Full House."

He then made his Hollywood debut in 2008, through the Wachowski Brothers' action pic "Speed Racer" and landed the lead role in martial arts film "Ninja Assassin" a year later.

Singer Rain revealed, “I plan to enlist for active duty later this year. After I am discharged, I will participate in an American movie.”

On April 22nd, Rain guested on KBS 1TV’s “Newsline” and was interviewed about his appearance on the “TIME 100″ list for the second time – the first in Asian celebrity history.

According to “TIME”, Rain has “successfully transformed into a movie star.” To this comment, the anchor asked him, “Do you have any plans to flim a movie in the States?”

Rain answered, “I have received many great scripts. However, because I have to enlist into the army this year, I have temporarily pushed them back. Later, after I get discharged, I hope I can film in the States.”

He continued, “I think I will enlist into active duty. I haven’t decided whether I will serve in the Marines, Air Force, or Army. I’m still thinking about it.”

anjjo, thanks for posting this here. Hollywood offers..... this is interesting but so sad & bad that he has to turn this down because of his MS. We can't deny the fact that RAIN is also a great actor - he had done movies/dramas already. He was very cool in all those projects. I would see whatever he is on. I feel happy that he is not only attracting attention with his musical skills, but also with his acting skills as well.

RAIN, departs to attend Time's event, representing Korea

“I will come back after pouring rain in New York”.

Top star Rain (29, real name Jung Ji Hoon) will depart to New York on the 24th at 7:30 by way of In Chon national airport. This upcoming 26th, he boarded the plane to attend New York’s “Time 100” party.

Last 14th, Rain was ranked 1st amongst “The world’s 100 most influential people” by Time Magazine. He beat world recognized Jay Chou and Susan in the rating. More than anything, Rain received the glory as he was picked twice as for the first time in Asia’s as “Time 100”.

Rain’s footsteps were light despite the importance of the event. Rain was full of tingly feelings and anticipation as he arrived to the airport early. What was most noticeable was his simplified outward appearance. His hair style was especially simple yet tough-looking.

The airport’s fashion also drew attention. As if he had realized the long flight hours, he wore a plain brown t-shirt with black pants, displaying a casual and comfortable style. His dark sunglasses made his style hard to miss at the airport.

As much as he was a major star fashionista, he did not let go of some fashion points. On this day, his point was a leopard printed backpack. The backpack was very noticeable because of the neutral tone color overall of his clothes. A gold watch was noticeable as well on his wrist. Rain’s unique signature fashion style was displayed as is.

The prop he held in his hand was also noticeable to the eye. Rain had prepared a lot of props for the long plane trip. More than anything, his “Time” magazine popped out the most. On Rain’s one hand was a “Time” magazine that was affecting reporter’s attention and caused a baptism of camera flashes. He also wore large headphones over his ears and carried his cell phone visibly.

Through Rain’s departure news article, many fans awaited him at the airport. The fans that were cheering towards him received Rain’s light nod and smile. Rain showed nice manners in taking the time to autograph for each and every single person per fan’s request before departing.

Rain is currently casting the movie “Red Muffler” with Shin Se Kyung after finishing up last year’s KBS 2 TV’s soap opera “The Fugitive Plan B”.

anjjo, thanks for posting the photos of his departure for NY. His get-up is so simple but the attire displays the 'chic' look. RAIN is always good-looking when in casuals.

Speaking of casual look, I would sooo love to see him in jeans, sneakers and beanie again! Just loving that athletic look on him.

anjjo, thanks for posting this here. Hollywood offers..... this is interesting but so sad & bad that he has to turn this down because of his MS. We can't deny the fact that RAIN is also a great actor - he had done movies/dramas already. He was very cool in all those projects. I would see whatever he is on. I feel happy that he is not only attracting attention with his musical skills, but also with his acting skills as well.

Yes, he said once before that he was forced to turn several Hollywood offers down due to his MS and that of course made him sad as he has worked so hard to come this far and just when he is successful and is in demand, he needs to leave. Hopefully, his career will continue like this or be even better after MS.

Hahahaha, I have the same problem. Not only that I am bad with technology things, I am no fan of all those social network stuff such as facebook or twitter. I have one facebook account which I never use and I did it to support Rain on a poll or so loooool.
