MBC winds up for baseball drama Strike Love

MBC’s upcoming baseball drama Strike Love [2009외인구단, for which I previously used the literal translation Alien Baseball Team], is another drama adapted from a popular manhwa, and has fans eager for its premiere next month.

The sports-themed series stars Yoon Tae-young (Legend) in the lead role of baseball player Kachi, while Kim Min-jung (New Heart) is cast as his love interest Omji (or Umji).

Also cast are Kim Sung-min (Legend, Open City) as Madongtak, while Munhee actress Song Ah-young takes on the character of Hyunji. Along with the two leads, these four will form the main love rectangle of the series.

The baseball team includes a motley assortment of players, like the small but speedy shortstop; the super-tall half-Korean batter; the legendary one-armed batter; and so on. (If you’re like me and you have no exposure to the original comic, these names and roles mean little — the original manhwa was super-popular in the 1980s — but looking online, it seems there’s a pretty decent amount of excitement over this adaptation.)

Strike Love will be MBC’s newest weekend drama, and airs its first episode on May 2.

Actors Yoon, Im Wed

Actor Yoon Tae-yeong, 32, the only son of Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Yoon Jong-yong, and actress Im Yoo-jin, 26, married yesterday, Valentine's Day.

The wedding ceremony took place at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul and was not open to the public. Entertainer Kim Je-dong was the host of the ceremony, and singer Park Jung-hyun sang a song.

The wedding attracted the public's attention because it involved both celebrities and business. Some 2,000 guests, including celebrities and businesspeople, attended the ceremony.

The couple met while costarring in the KBS drama "Above Green Field" in 2003. In the drama, Yoon and Im played brother and sister. They became lovers in 2005 with the intention of getting married.

Yoon graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a degree in business administration. He acted in various dramas including "Beautiful She" (1996), "Wangcho" (1999) and "Pearl Necklace" (2003). He also acted in several films including "Mister Socrates" (2005) and "Never to Lose" (2005). After the wedding, he will shoot the MBC drama "The Four Guardian Gods of the King", which he will costar in with Bae Yong-joon. It will be aired in May.

Yoon and Im will go on their honeymoon when the shooting is over. Im graduated from Dongduk Women's University. She acted in "Reversal of Fortune" (2003) and "Bunshinsaba" (2004).

윤태영 “심심할 때마다 연기한다는 시선 억울”

드라마 ‘2009 외인구단’ 위해 2007년말부터 투구 연습

MBC 주말특별기획드라마 ‘2009 외인구단’(극본 황미나 김인수 연출 송창수)에 출연 중인 탤런트 윤태영이 “심심할 때마다 연기를 하느냐는 시선이 가장 억울하다”고 심경을 털어놓았다

윤태영은 16일, MBC 라디오 FM4U(91.9MHz) ‘오늘 아침 이문세입니다’에 출연해 이같이 말하며 “나는 항상 드라마를 찍고 있거나 촬영준비를 하고 있는데 TV방송만 보는 분들은 가끔 얼굴을 보인다고 생각해 그런 오해를 받는 것 같다”고 말했다.

실 제로 윤태영은 다작을 하는 배우는 아니다. 특히 ‘태왕사신기’이후 2년만에 출연한 ‘2009외인구단’의 경우 주인공 오혜성 역할을 위해 2007년 연말부터 투구 연습을 시작했고, 지금은 시속 130㎞ 안팎의 공을 던질 만큼 실력을 쌓았다. 하지만 다른 배우들에 비해 상대적으로 작품 수가 적어 오해를 쌓은 셈이다.

게다가 윤태영의 집안 배경도 이같은 오해를 쌓는데 한 몫했다. 윤태영의 부친은 삼성전자 부회장을 지낸 윤종용 삼성전자 상임고문이며 윤태영 본인은 일리노이웨슬리안대학교에서 경영학 학사를 취득한 유학파 출신이다.

윤태영은 “데뷔 이후 편한 역할을 해본 적이 없다. 하지만 노력한 대가는 시청자들이 알아주실 것”이라며 출연작 ‘2009외인구단’에 대한 성원을 부탁했다.

윤 태영과 인터뷰를 마친 DJ 이문세는 “윤태영이 배우로서 이렇게 성실한 사람인지 몰랐다”고 감탄하며 “윤태영이란 이름 석자를 알렸던 드라마 ‘맨발’처럼 30대에는 ‘맨발’로 열심히 달려주시고 40대부터 ‘신발’을 신는 연기를 보여달라”며 유머 넘치는 응원메시지를 전했다.
