    Hi yuzu, thanks for sharing the pictures. "Sexy hands".................I do agree with you. I love the shape & slender of his hands/fingers. I hope KSH will also be involved & get to participate in a military musical project just like some other stars who are also in the military right now. So, we could get to see him at least.  I miss KSH! :lol:

    You're welcome, willenette.  We all miss him so much, but Soo Hyun said he will not take part in any promotional activities, not even picture taking.  We all know once he sets his heart in doing something, he puts in 100% effort whether it is being an actor or a soldier.  When he was actor Kim Soo Hyun, filming Real, he hardly appeared in public too unless it was to fulfill his CFs obligations.  Now that he's soldier Kim Soo Hyun, he is even more low key because too much attention brought to his unit will be a disturbance to other team members.

    Talking about the maintenance fees of GD and Soo Hyun’s home in SK. Some netizens went to check on the amount of the maintenance fees of GD and Soo Hyun’s home.  I dare not translate the figures because I am not familiar with their counting systems. It is about Won 184130 per month. Soo Hyun bought the place at 40.2 billion won. What it said is that just the maintenance fees in May for their flats are more than the salary of a worker of an average company. Some said that even if they are allowed to stay inside the premises free of charge, they also cant afford the maintenance.

    You're right, hwonhwon, numbers are tricky to translate.  The maintenance fees should be 1,804,130 won (~1600 USD) per month while his apartment was bought at 4.02 billion won (~3.6 million USD).  To put it in perspective, Soo Hyun's salary in the army is only about 300,000 won per month, which makes the maintenance fees 6X times as much as what he makes in the army.

    yuzu, BTW, are you referring to the Nuclear Emergency Search Team or Search and Rescue? :o

    Oh, I'm not sure, willenette.   I don't know the difference between the two units.   From the youtube video, the commentators said he works in the Joint Security Area (JSA), which is the only portion of the DMZ where North and South Korea stand face to face.  If war breaks out, these soldiers are most front line and closest to the area of conflict.

    yuzu, thanks for sharing this. This is my 1st time to hear about this kind of team in the military. At least, right now it's summertime in Korea. Cold is bearable.

    You're welcome, willenette.  Summertime is just as bad under the hot sun since they carry out their tasks outdoor for long hours.  The search team is one of the toughest unit in the army and only about 0.1% of new recruits qualify to join.

    Hi yuzu, thanks for sharing this. KSH is such a generous man. All food served inside the camp are all healthy food. The army usually serves a balanced Korean-style meal with the exceptions of hamburgers or other Western-style food, which is most welcome! It is important to finish all your food as eating is also considered a form of “training” in the army. During meal, you can’t say - “‘Please give me more meat.’ ‘No, you can’t because the food is made in fixed quantities, so the people behind you may not be able to eat.’ And when you say ‘I don’t have an appetite, so I don’t want to eat dinner.’ ‘No, you can’t. Eating a meal is the duty of a soldier. Chocolate pie is a classic food in the Army.  Soldiers receive the complementary Choco Pie cookie every Sunday. :lol:

    Army life is so strict and rigid, I bet there's a lot more we don't know.  Except for celebrities, it makes sense for ordinary citizens to serve in their early 20's while they are barely adults and have not entered the work force.  It's probably pretty hard for older guys to get disciplined by their senior who is actually younger than them in age (our SH is so well mannered and lovable, I hope his doesn't get disciplined too much).

    ~~~
    Some details about the search team Soo Hyun is in:
    The search team is very hard.  During the summer, wearing bulletproof vests in the unarmed areas for search activities feel as if you'll catch on fire.  If you put a thermometer in the bulletproof vest, it’s about 50 degrees to 60 degrees.
    During the winter nights, you enter the unarmed area to conduct ambush tasks before sunset and leave before sunrise.  Even though the sun has come out, the temperature is still around -20 degrees.  After sunset,  the temperature can dip to -40 degrees.
    Instead of sleeping in a tent,  a shovel is used to dig a hole in the ground and three people sit in it and carry out vigilance tasks for more than 13 hrs.  No matter how many layers of clothing you have on, you cannot withstand the cold.
    As long  you do not deviate from the (?) road, there will be no major accidents of stepping on landmines.
    Here are some revisions:
    [Figure 1]
    Friend's younger brother is a team leader, said KSH is a very outstanding person.  Although he is older, he does not have any bad habits* of an old man  (* such as being critical and meddling in other's business).   The division leader asked for his autograph but he said he is currently a soldier and declined; his physical fitness is very good.
    [Figure 2]
    Heard from a teammate that he doesn't like to talk about things relating to the entertainment industry; is living quietly in the camp.
    [Figure 3]
    A soldier who supervises the shooting range said he saw KSH quite a few times.  His face is really small and his shooting skills is excellent.  He is living well in the camp and is an ace.
    Hi yuzu, thanks for sharing this. :PCelebrities inside the camp are popular - I wonder why they say he's funny, huh? I do agree that his voice is really sexy.
    willenette,  from behind the scene videos, you can see he's a goofball that can't hold back laughter most of the time.  He's also very good at doing accents and impersonations of other people -- see BSC's impersonation of PD Ra in the Producers, he got the facial expressions down to the T :D
    Kim Soo Hyun to reveal recent status after enlistment ... In the unchanging appearance, "Are you shooting a movie?"
    Top comments from Nate article:
    1. It’s great that he's serving well quietly.
    2. Still handsome as before, Kim Soo Hyun is super good looking.
    3. His face looks like it'll disappear.  He shaved his head as a child actor before and was still very handsome.
    4. He deserves to be praised for serving active duty despite having had heart disease.
    5. He originally tested level 4 but he made effort to improve his health and got re-tested to get in active duty.  It is really amazing.
    6.  He had heart disease since young and could have been a candidate for exemption, but he still worked hard in his military life.  Look at the kids who only cause trouble.  When it is time join the army, they start to have mental illness.
    7. Heard that he has to go out and sweep the land mines... he doesn't want to cause trouble for other colleagues so all requests for interviews are declined.  Please come back soon.
    8. I heard he had heart surgery when he was a child.  Be careful not to get hurt and discharge healthily.
    9.  Having a small face makes for great proportions.  Makes the shoulder look wide.
    10. Kim Soo Hyun is very handsome.  In the army is also handsome ^ ^
    11.  Whether male celebrities use their hairstyle to cover their ugliness can be seen in their army photos... from what we saw in Kim Soo-hyun's photo, he survived the army cut with his small face and head.
    12. Ah, so dam cute, his eyes are like a puppy's.
    13. I know people who have heard that he is serving well in the army, very kind and does not want to inconvenience others.  He refused all requests for interviews and has been working diligently.  Their evaluation of him is really good.
    14. The colleagues who served together mentioned that he does not have one bit of celebrity disease.  Very handsome, funny and kind.
    15. He is really a very pure person, spending his days in the army working hard and quietly.  I am not his fan but my brother is in the same team as him and said he gets along well with everyone like family.  He is very down to earth and approachable, which is a bit surprising (because he's a celebrity).
    16. He really went to the army in such a silent way. I don't know anyone around me that knows he has gone to the army .  For such a top star, he went just like that.
    This photo was taken while he was still in training camp.  Unfortunately, we have not seen him at all since he joined the search team (other than the candid shot someone took of him at the Internet cafe).  When the media tried to interview him months ago, Soo Hyun declined and said he will not participate in any public appearances or promotional events.  I guess we’ll have to wait until July 2019 to see him again.
    yuzu, I'm not really sure in terms of their management contract - I guess there are times & cases when they have an "offset arrangement" - this is a type of side deal, sometimes best described as a sweetener. This is an agreement between two or more parties that provides additional benefits and is ancillary to another negotiated contract. What I'm darned sure is this oftentimes happened & applied to CFs. There are celebrities that the period of their CF contract covers the term of their two-year military service.  :P
    Yes, it all depends on what is in their contract but I was just wondering if there was a general industry standard.  Since I don't follow any other Korean celebrity, I don't know whether other artiste's time in the military is taken into account towards their contract length.  During their time in the army, their agency still represents them and is the point of contact for schedules after their discharge so I think it should count, but at the same time, they are not making any money for the agency in those two years so the agency would want the contract paused while they are in the army.
    CFs are different since the marketer is buying a license to use their face on their products and still making money for them even when the artist is not active.
    Hi yuzu, ye, it is referring to Filipino remake. And we're talking about it. :P
    Thanks for clarifying, willenette :)
    BTW,  do you know if the time an artist spends in the army counts towards their contracts with their agency?  I know Soo Hyun renewed his contract with Keyeast in late 2016, if it counts, his contract will end in late 2019.  If if doesn't,  it drags out to 2021, which is long time and unfair to him since his company got bought out while he was in the army.
    Hi hwonhwon, I guess the rating mentioned in the article was already the 2nd run (re-run) in the Philippines. The figure is considered high considering that this was already its 2nd run. As far as I know & remember a Philippine remake re-run was broadcast on May 2017. "My Love from the Star" was a success in the Philippines after hitting high ratings and dubbed as "One of the most loved Korean drama in the Philippines". It aired its 1st broadcast on GMA Network from April 21 to June 30, 2014, on weeknights at 5:45 PM PST . Each episode runs 45 minutes including commercial breaks. The entire series was dubbed in Filipino.  It was the highest rated Korean drama in the Philippines for 2014.  :P
    I think the ratings mentioned in the article was referring to the Filipino remake.   I watched a bit on Youtube out of curiosity and all I can say is... never touch a classic.  Remakes hardly ever measure up to the original.
