I resist reading the novel (translation) so that I can accept all that is dished to me by the director, scriptwriter n production team without constantly having to compare the drama vs the novel. Loooove the drama but this ending frustrates me to no end

@staygold someone on douban translated your musing/question about Ning Yi's mask room XD People were like wow omg. Some agreed that's what it means. Someone else indicated that in the making of documentaries, the mask were apparently to signify Ning Yi's multifaceted personality? I haven't got around to them yet so I can't confirm.

Zhi wei's mum want her to bring back the old dynasty or something, and she had basically a secret army of people that did intelligence gathering, assassination and protects her through out the book (Zong Chen and Gu Nanyi are part of it) that meant to help her with that. So she did, she fought for them, and for others who died for her, and for people who no longer have a place in Tian Shen, and established a kingdom. Ning Yi became the emperor and they kind of split the land in half. (It currently has 4 kingdoms, Tian Shen, Da Yue to the north (He Lian's home), one I forgot, Bei Wei? it's to northwest? Xi Yue in south west. She had power in Da Yue and had control over Xi Yue. The other country was too busy dealing with their own thing for a long while). Anyways eventually they both pretended they died (it was some elaborate poison plot they both schemed without discussing it with each other) and went to live happily outside of the palace. There was like one chapter that showed that, like an epilogue, they had kids iirc.

It if makes you feel better, the novel had a happy ending so you can pretend that's the ending. After it looked like it was going to be tragic ending, because so much had happened and they were just on opposite sides, they had to do right by the people who were with them all along kind of thing.

I was contemplating to temporarily stop at Ep 47 (DVD) which gives such a lovey dovey feeling... Hehe .. and dream that the ending will be like this :

People are also speculating that Ning Yi will marry Minister Yao's daughter. I DETEST sad ending ... That's the reason, in the past, I waited till the C-dramas ended before watching those with happy endings.
NIF nearly killed me until an alternative ending was made available. Watched 3310 only after it had ended happily. Legend of Fuyao was the first I watched raws from Ep 1 till the end.. feeling dreadfully worried all the time that the ending might be horrible and sad... Phew!!

Thanks re tips of watching TV vs DVD. TV version airs earlier than DVD version. As I can't wait to watch the latest/new episodes.. I therefore watch the TV version first, followed by re-watching via DVD version. So far so good... I understand much better.

@mrsj3n, let's don't give up yet. As long as we understand the story and its general flow, let's keep our perseverance n continue watching raws till the eng sub is available. OK?
It'll be great if we (esp the 姐妹 who understand the dialogue and who have read the novel) can have some discussion, analysis, summary, explanation/ clarification, etc etc after each episode like in the thread for Legend of Fuyao. But, for me, it's kinda not very appetizing to have to put everything in spoiler mode

Marathon thru first 4 episodes (raw). Good story-telling n fast pace... as I had read a bit of the novel long time ago, I have no problem following. Love it.
